Hi there. Rough sledding to the finish for the Mavericks. Nine days and counting until the start of the season that everyone wants to see
Do you think that the mavs may have peaked to early this season? Or will their late-season struggles not effect the way they play in the postseason?
They did play their best in February when they were beating up on a lot of the non playoff teams. I wish I knew if this skid would end with the start of the playoffs. Personally, I hope so. I like broadcasting playoff games
Is Dallas better off playing San Antonio or LA in the 2nd round...of course that is if they make it to the 2nd round?
You kind of answered your own question. They need to worry about getting out of the First Round first. And regardless, it would appear that both San Antonio and the Lakers would have to be beaten for them to get to the NBA Finals, does it really matter in what order they meet.
okay i believe you like what kidd brings to this team but having season tickets for the last 10 yrs the guards on this team are killing us right now kidd, terry, roddy b ( too young) stevenson go on down the list --the only one playing well is JJ. My point is this when will we ever address on this team what we need a guard that can take over the game in winning time? I believe no matter the match up we are done in the first round because -Denver, Portland, NO and Memphis all are hungeriier than a over 30 team that does not believe that can win.
You do need a creator. The Mavericks hoped Roddy would be that player, but it doesn't seem to be working out too well. I would disagree with your notion that the potential Mavs opponents are hungrier than the Mavericks are. I think the Mavericks are as hungry as anyone, especially, given their playoff failures. They may not be good enough, but don't excuse that for a lack of desire.
Coop!! Did you see how many boards I snagged last night? I'm a beast! Is that the kind of performance people have been expecting out of me?
I saw it. I loved it. I want you to keep doing it. Yes. People may not have been expecting 19 rebounds, but they have been expecting consistent production all season. Which hasn't been there
WHATS DA REALISTIC CHANCES WE GET OUT DA FIRST ROUND COOP...
There's a realistic chance. But any series they play is going to be a long and difficult one
I don't want to keep bashing on JET, but in the last few years he has really epitomized what is wrong with this team. Jumper after jumper, we shoot our way to the offseason. He is a great basketball player and if he would just drive more than he shoots, he and the team will be effective. Without Caron, he has to be the second best player! What's your take?
He does shoot a lot of jumpers. He has done a better job of mixing up his game this year than ever before. He is in a rut right now (Although he was better last night. He DOES need to be their second best scorer with Caron out. And he needs to calm down. The push on Steve Blake, and the Tech last night after he threw the ball away late in the game are things that someone 12 years in the league should NOT be doing
i never understand all the roddy hype, he is another undersized two guard which we dont need, he had a few flashes last season but when u are playing with two hall of famers and an allstar in butler, no body is really paying u any attention, he was awful in summer league, and is still awful now. he may not have any value at this point
The hype on Roddy was based on the belief he could be the Mavs answer at PG once Jason Kidd decides to retire. He showed a tremendous ability to be able to create his own shot, which is a skill the Mavs don't have in abundance. The broken foot set him back to a point where he has had to play catch up and he simply has not caught up. But so far, your assessment is correct. he is an undersized two.
In your opinion, why isnt Barea the starting PG during Kidd's resting games?
Because they want to see how Roddy plays PG. They know what JJ can do, and Roddy is perceived as the future. I was surprised JJ didn't start last night. He's been playing well. Then again, maybe Rick Carlisle didn't want to upset something he thinks is pretty good... Barea coming off the bench and providing an immediate boost.
Why do the Mavs always shoot so many jump shots instead of driving to the basket?? To me it should be half and half. What do you think? Are they scared to drive?
They had 44 points in the paint last night. Their PIP numbers are way up the last two months. But at heart, they ARE a jump shootng team. They don't have drivers save for Dirk and JJ. Roddy should be one, but hasn't done very much of it
Watup Coop! Love the Coop and Nate show! If Mavs start heating up and win these last couple of games do you think they are getting back on their mojo or are they just getting lucky and have no shot at winning round 1?
Thanks for checking out the show. Winning the last four has no correlation on whether or not they will win or lose in the First Round
What is wrong with Jason Terry? He doesn't seem to be himself of late.
JET is a streaky guy. Always has been. Always will be. He went through a two month stretch where he was shooting 50 percent, and averaging about 18 a game. Of late, it hasn't been so good. Also, last week, an aunt, whom he was quite closed to passed away, and on the off day between Phoenix and LA, flew home to take care of business.
Roddy B isn't what we want him to be, the newly acquired Brewer does nothing, and Peja makes little to no impact. Which Maverick I haven't named has been the most disappointing this season?
Roddy has been disappointing, but I'm almost ready to give him a pass. He just missed too much time and has too much to learn. Brewer showed some signs of life last night. I think, given what he did last year, and what was exdpected this year, that Brendan Haywood would be your answer. And when you see him play like he did last night, it probably frustrates you even more. He can really help this team when he brings it like that
sup coop, ok should we maybe be starting haywood you know keep the better center in chandler on the bench to mess with the other teams energy and how about corey at the 2 spot?
Nope, Chandler is your starter. Why can't Haywood dominate the second unit the way you say Chandler would?
if we are one and done, will this team entertain the idea of a hiring a coach that fits the personal, we need a fiery coach and carlise is wayyyyy to laid back, u cant have a laid back coach and laid back team, jerry sloan maybe, or larry brown?
Jerry Sloan says he doesn't ewant to coach. Larry Brown is still a great coach in my book, but I don't buy your notion that this team needs a screamer. Avery Johnson was great in the short term, but that didn't end very well did it? In addition, Carlisle isn't someone I would call laid back and easy going. He is VERY involved, and he does care deeply about his team, it's players, and their performance.
Hey Coop, why don't the Mavs get the ball inside to Chandler more often and make him more of a scoring option. He seems to have good hands and a nice shot. Seems like all they do is throw him lobs.
They do run some stuff for him that results in an elbow jumper. But he doesn't have much of a low post game. You don't throw it to him in the post, and then clear out for him. But he's an excellent screener and runner, and that's why you see the lob play used, and used well.
ok i understand but give me this, if we face portland haywood did seem to me to guard LA better than chandler no?
He did a VERY good job on Aldridge. And he could do it again in the playoffs. When LA is playing 42 minutes, and he and Chandler take turns.
Is it bad that when I hear of your name I think of Mark Followill's face? You guys sound very similar.
I am honored you think I sound like Mark. Any broadcaster would want THAT voice
Come on, Coop, don't you know that everyone over 6' 10" automatically has a post game, by magical means? The ones who don't use it are just soft (Dirk) or misused by their coach (Chandler). Everyone knows that.....
Love good sarcasm :)
so if a lockout happens and kidd retires who is pt guard?
I don't know, and I'm not sure they do either
Maybe I'm alone in this but I am not worried about the Mavs when the playoffs start. They are a different/better team this year and they really want to win. They will play better in the playoffs - I think they'll win the first round in six games and play L.A. tough (six or seven games) in the second round.
I think you have to be worried. That doesn't mean you won't be right when it's all said and done. I hope you're only partially right (I don't want it to end in the second round).
SO WHO DO U THINK WE WILL END UP PLAYING IN THE 1ST RND
Until last night, I would have said Portland for sure. But now that it's unclear how the Mavericks will address these last four games of the season, and how the bottom half of the playoff draw will take place, it's up in the air. I guess I'll say Portland, but don't hold me to it
And when we meet again next week, we will know for sure, whom the Mavericks have drawn, and we get to the best time of the year. Talk to you then. And hope you'll join Brad Davis and me tomorrow night for the Mavs and Clippers at 7:30 and every day at 2:00 for the Coop and Nate show on 103.3 FN ESPN
