Here to chat the early look at the top 25 is on the site.
Obviously this is speculation, but if the Arizona Wildcats had beaten Uconn, were they the ones winning the title on Monday?
Very hard to predict. We could sit here and now armchair quarterback and say that VCU could have been a better matchup against UConn. Hard to tell.
Do you see Henson or Barnes coming back next year?
I do. I could be wrong. But I just didn't get the sense that Barnes was a one-and-done throughout the season, much like Jared Sullinger at Ohio State.
Who do you will be pre-season #1 mens basketball next season?
Kentucky or North Carolina.
Why would Sydney Johnson leave Princeton for Fairfield? He was in a good situation, having taken his alma mater to the NCAA tournament, and even if he has greater aspirations, is Fairfield even a step up?
Money. Only reason.
Andy, what would be a realistic expectation for VCU next year? #6 in the final poll is going to get people excited, though they most likely wont be in the top 25 preseason. Are they the CAA favorites even losing all the seniors?
I'd say VCU will have plenty of competition. George Mason is the pick in the CAA. Drexel should be a top contender too. ODU never seems to fade.
Hi Andy, not counting underclassmen who are expected to leave early for the NBA, who do you think will be the face of college basketball next season like Jimmer was this season?
Sullinger. Barnes if he stays. There are a lot more choices heading into the season. Of course Kemba if he suddenly stays.
How does uconn not get all 31 votes in the ESPN poll. Should that voter be canned?
No. I heard Mike Adras' view on it. I agree. He was asked to vote on the best team of the entire season. I have no problem with him putting Ohio State. Connecticut won the NCAA tournament. I don't think the Huskies would tell you they were the best team during the season. The poll is silly anyway after the season. What's the point?
Andy, now that March Madness is over and a champion crowned, do you think Jimmer deserved the Naismith Award?
Sure. The voting is done before the Final Four.
If Kentucky's freshman all stay and they lose only Josh, with the 4 recruits that are coming, how will Cal find enough playing time?
It always works itself out.
How absurd are Debbie Yow's claims of "sabotage" on Gary Williams' part re: the NC State vacancy?
Please tell me Frank Martin will be back in purple next year!!!!
Can't see Miami paying him enough to leave KState.
how much of a blowout would the championship game have been if Oriakhi (out last 9 min), Lamb (last 7 min), and Walker (last 4 min) hadn't been in 1st half foul trouble?
It wasn't like they were getting great looks. I don't think it would have been a blowout.
Andy, With the hiring of Frank Haith, we have heard the negatives. What are some positives he will bring to Mizzou Arena?
High character. Strong recruiting ties.
Andy, Can you please comment on Debbie Yows comments that Gary Williams "Sabotaged" her coaching search at NC State and that a national writer will be exposing him. To me it makes it seem that Mark Gottfried was the 5th choice.
I agree with your assessment. He was.
Say Jones leaves and Knight stays to graduate. Lamb isn't ready yet. Is it possible to go undefeated? I know we have to play in that champions tourney early in the year, but its still possible right?
Slow down. No way Kentucky goes undefeated.
Kudos to your colleague Mike Greenberg for calling the NCAA Tournament what it is - a fun, exciting 3 weeks of basketball and a silly way of determining a national champion.
Couldn't disagree more. Can't stand the football model. Who do you choose? So if a football team loses the first game of the season we should forget about that team for the title, even though they may be playing the best at the end of the season? Would that argument have been made if Kansas played Ohio State for the title? It was only three years ago that all four No. 1s made the Final Four in 2008. No one complained then. It's cyclical.
Andy, if the Plumlee brothers don't step up next year could Duke be like UNC last year NIT bound?
No shot. Austin Rivers.
Andy, how can you have UCLA ranked so low? They basically return everyone except Honeycut, and he actually hurt the team with his streaky play. Josh Smith, if he loses 20 pounds, could be the best Big Man in the Country and the Ware twins are beasts.... That will give UCLA the most size of any team in the Country. And the videos of Norman Powell on youtube are simply astonishing -- the guy has a 55 inch vertical and makes Russell Westbrook seem as athletic as high school nerd....
I want to wait and see and you just said "if" on Smith.
Do you ever see a day when the national champion is determined in a similar fashion as the college world series with best of three series? It seems like a much better way to determine the best team in the country. What do you think?
Hey Andy,I really respect you and your columns, which is not true of every expert. I told you in Houston before the game that the Huskies were going to prove your Butler pick wrong. Turned out that Butler proved your Butler pick wrong.
Despite Butler's 18% shooting against UConn, I love Brad Stevens. I know Stevens is from Indianapolis and seems like a stand-up guy. Do you think Stevens is actually telling the truth and plans to return to Butler next year instead of leaving for a bigger program?
Yes. He's telling the truth. He's not going anywhere.
I know you say that the NCAA tournament is preferable to college football's system but I think its in-arguable that the two teams that played for the BCS championship were closer to the two best teams in the country than the two teams that played for the NCAA tournament championship. Even you can't make that argument with a straight face.
That is true. But this was a unique year. Butler won 25 games in a row last season and was playing some of the best basketball a year ago of anyone. Butler also knocked off a number of big time teams. Duke was one of the best teams a year ago as well.No one seemed to have an issue with Florida-Ohio State or UCLA-Florida or North Carolina-Illinois. More often than not the top teams will find a way to the Final Four.
Do you believe Josh Selby is ready for the NBA?
No. Needs to return.
UNLV top 2 candidates Dave Rice and Reggie Theus would make UNLV a national power again but which one would you like to see??
Rice. He hasn't had a shot yet to be a head coach. He was a key member of the Cougars' rise this season.
Give us a team a lot of people aren't talking about that could be really good next season?
Harvard. Seriously. The Crimson will be a tough out. Still think Purdue will find a way to be a quality team with Robbie Hummel. I wrestled with where to put some other teams like Georgia.
How well do you think Austin Rivers will be next season?
If Irving leaves it will be the Rivers' show. Thanks for chatting.Enjoy the top 25. And thank you for visiting our site throughout the season. Please continue in the offseason as we provide coverage of the sport 12 months a year.
