Good afternoon everyone...let's get his partaaayyyy started!
Hell-o Mark, How about that 17! If Matt continues to qualify near the front he will really be a force this summer. My questions, will the Fords have an advantage because or the extra tape they can run on the nose? Can Menard keep it going? If you google where we live you'll understand why I like the Wisconsin drivers. I try to pick with my head and not my heart but boy is this fun now. Oh yeah, don't forget Johnny Sauter! Thanks, Bill
Bill...I predicted some big things for Matt Kenseth Saturday night and he exceeded expectations that's for sure. I do think the Ford FR-9 engine has some unique qualities that give them an advantage when it comes to cooling the engine. The other makes have worked hard on it from Daytona but I think Ford still has an edge. For the first time in his career Menard is in first class stuff with a crew chief who really believes in him. So, I think he should be able to keep it going.
Got most of these guys locked under their current price, what do you think of 18, 99, 27, 33, 6?
Andrew on paper that's a pretty decent team. You can never tell at Talladega but that should score some serious points. Ragan is a much better plate driver than people give him credit for. He should have won the Daytona 500 not Bayne.
If I keep 99 18 & 27 and add 6, I would list my 5th choice (in order) 42 22 33 11
Don I would look at the 33 and the 42 in that order..all four are strong..but I give 33 and 42 edge in this group because of the ECR engines.
Mark: Sunday the moon, stars, momentum and stats all finally came together for a pretty good weekend. I guess you are going to have calling me the Old Guru after 209 blitz I laid you Sunday?it made my week! Not only was that number the high score in the ESPN game, even better is the fact that I now have you in a 62 point hole which I hope you can not be able to climb out of. One thing which I think you would agree with me on is you should just as soon throw away the stats this weekend for all the good they will do. At least on paper, I am leaning a little towards the 27, 33, 88 (or 42), 29 and the 6. all a better than average plate racers. Your comments?PS: anyone wanting the stats should email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
Since Ken is a regular...we should all send him a get well card at the hospital..the doctor thought it was an odd injury...it all made sense when he realized Ken broke his arm patting himself on the back too hard...:)...you know the old saying even a blind squirrel can find a nut..and believe me folks we ARE talking about a squirrel...:)...that team decent no 209 again but decent...have a great day.
hi mark, where do you see dale jr finishing at dega.I really would love to hear your oppinion, and anyothers thatmight come to mind?
Look no matter what Junior's gone through the last few seasons, he still has a special touch for plate racing. He had a shot to win the 500 and cut a tire, which put him in a wreck. I see Junior top-10 or better.
Who do you think will win the Aaron's 312 & the Aaron's 499 at Talledega?
Kyle Busch - Kevin Harvick
Mark, if I only had picked Menard instead of Truex on ESPN my worst finisher would've been 7th at Texas. Still a really good week. My teams for 'Dega are ESPN: 29-22-31-1-21 and Y!: 29-31-1-21, how do they look?
Nick you'll need the bad luck gorilla to get off of Burton's back to make those teams work. On paper those two teams can work.
29,33,88,6,34,15 any good
You had me all the way to 34 Dave...Gilliland got really, really lucky at Daytona. Hard to see that happening again.
Great 1 Look deep into your crystal ball for this weekend. This is the race that wins the first segment.. Give me a pre race evaluation 29-14-88-6-5.. Any advise would help.. Love Beth
I looked into the crystal ball Beth and the only thing reflecting back were your beautiful (blue, brown, green) pick one eyes....lol...I can live with that team Beth..but maybe my pre-race top-30 would be of some help.......1.Kevin Harvick 2.Carl Edwards3.Clint Bowyer4.Juan Pablo Montoya5.Tony Stewart6.Kyle Busch7.Matt Kenseth8.Denny Hamlin9.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.10.Kurt Busch11.Mark Martin12.Jeff Burton13.Jamie McMurray14.Jeff Gordon15.David Ragan16.Jimmie Johnson17.Trevor Bayne18.Paul Menard19.Greg Biffle20.Martin Truex, Jr.21.Brad Keselowski22.Joey Logano23.Ryan Newman24.Bobby Labonte25.Regan Smith26.David Reutimann27.Kasey Kahne28.Brian Vickers29.Marcos Ambrose30.A.J. A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN MID MO. CAN'T BELIEVE CARL BASHED HIS MOM'S COOKING! I BET ITS SUBWAY IN THE MOTOR HOME FOR A WHILE!MY QUESTION; USE RAGAN OR MENARD OR DO SOME ALLOCATION MANAGEMENT WITH SMITH, LABONTE, GILLILAND OR BAYNE. I NEED TWO FOR MY "c" DRIVERS IN YAHOO! THANKS!
If you can use Ragan and Menard in Yahoo game..do it... or go Ragan and Bayne and hope the two can hook up like they did at Daytona...You know they're going to try...and I'm like you...could be a while before Carl's mom delivers another home cooked meal.
Riddle me this Guru? Which teams will have great cars/set ups. At the first plate race, it appeared the Red Bull teams would be strong even though they finished with poor results.
Riddle me this? Wow felt like I was on an old Batman episode...and you were the "Riddler"...set-ups mean nothing for this race...whats does? horsepower, slick aero, engine cooling, the right partner.....and......................lots and lots of luck!
Mark whoare the favorits this week, not like it matters since anybody can be taken out at anytime, but who do you feel will survie the "big one".
I look at Talladega last season and Kevin Harvick leaps off the page also his teammate Clint Bowyer and Juan Pablo Montoya..I think the Fords will be in the mix because of what I talked about a few minutes ago and that's the fact their engine doesn't need as big an opening to stay cooled down.
guru!! the 42 had a solid pts day at texas with a junk car. is that a sign they will be in the chase?
Absolutely...Montoya is back in the same mindset he was in 2009 when he made the Chase...first finish and let's see where second...He's maybe the biggest early season surprise.
I've done well with Menard but do you think there comes a point in the near future where I've gotten my mileage out of him.
Matt, I always believe you ride the horse until it breaks a leg and Menard is not showing any sign of that and if you got him early..he's a great price..there might be a time to trade him it's just not now.
I dont know how people are just watching the beeting that the pirates fan got by that security guard...i dont care what he did which looked like nothing besides having fun at a baseball game and all these people are watching this mall cop beet a fan with his stick...not only should this guy be fired but the fan who he hit should be given all his pay and this moron who thinks hes a tough guy and can do whatever he wants should be made an example of and embaressed infront of the sports world...what a pathetic individual who takes his anger out from his wife beeting him on a innocent fan
Ray...posted this because you obviously have a strong feelings about situation, which I'm not aware of, but this is NASCAR chat you might want to post it on baseball chat...have a great day.
Guru, do you think practice/qualifying times will have an effect on this race? Also thanks for the insight last week, my worst driver was 8th, not counting Regan Smith.
No I don't think qualifying or practice mean a thing this week. It's guts and luck...lots of both...and appreciate the "thanks"...you're certainly welcome!
Guru, thoughts on Logano this weekend? He's finished in the top 10 3 out of his last 4 at Dega. Those JGR engines a worry here?
Cole..Logano is sneaky good at Talladega no doubt about it...but he's had trouble really finishing races lately and if there's one place that becomes a problem on steroids its Talladega..Engine continue to worry me too.
my apologies wrong chat
No problem man..
If things are quiet enough to take a kind of off-topic question, Guru - I'd appreciate your thoughts on the problems the 11 & 20 teams have had this year. Seems to be a topic of endless discussion with no certain conclusions...
That's a hard one to figure Joanie because those two made little changes to the team and little changes to the engines and nothing has worked out. Logano isn't finishing anywhere near the front. Hamlin is struggling to keep up and changed tire changers last week...they have to get those situations settled down in a hurry.
doesn't seem like many people are here today, so i'll throw another questions out.....where does martin end up next year?
It might be a natural for him to slip over to Red Bull Racing and take Kahne's place with Kahne taking his on the #5 team...I also think this guy Tim Turner, who's done a great job in building a Nationwide Series operation, is the real deal. Martin is running a few races for him and if he wants to move up to Cup maybe Mark can be talked into doing it with him. You can sure he'll be rascing somewhere.
Who will be highest finishing Hendrick driver this weekend?
It just might be Junior Andrew..he drove a smart race at Daytona and was in the wrong place at the wrong time...Should be him or Gordon.
Mark - do you think the two-car-train racing makes the outcome of Dega even more unpredictable? Usually, a person can predict who'll do well IF not caught up in bad Dega luck - but is this a whole new animal now? Thanks, as always!
You're absolutely correct in thinking the two-car tandem draft makes this very unpredictable and Talladega is unpredictable enough.....this is all about finding someone who commits to pushing you even if you drive out into the parking lot..lol..it's all about committment.
Mark, thanks very much for your efforts. Why do you have Mcmurray ranked so low in the Pre Practice top 30. He is good on plate races and has the EGR engine?
Jerry,I have him midpack which is where he's finished last couple of plate races. Still has all the talent and ECR engine to make it all work out but just hasn't lately.
Got to roll everyone...thanks for joining in today..as always it's been fun..have a great week and we'll talk to you again Sunday morning...until then may the force be with you and sad to once again say "The Guru has left the building!"
