Satu (Finland)

Will Luongo be in the goal in game 5?

Jesse Roges
  (4:05 PM)

Yes, he is in goal.

russ (VT)

why isn't Bieksa getting a game for instigating within five?

Jesse Roges
  (4:06 PM)

Close call...refs are slow to call that in the playoffs. They never gave a big explanation on it...Q didnt argue it too much..I know scotty bowman thought it shoukd have been...stalberg told me today no doubt he was jumped but maybe needs to be even more obvious and pronounced of an insitgation if you know what I mean..prob should have been

J.R. Van Houghton (Chicago)

Can we expect the Hawks to play with the same intensity as Tuesday? Will they become a shell of that if Vancouver scores first and comes out hitting?

Jesse Roges
  (4:07 PM)

That's the question no one knows the answer too..I have a feeling now that they have a taste of a huge win, they want more but Van is a good team..just dont know...maybe it comes down to x's and o's if both teams come to play...nobody knows how this one will go

Jeremiah (Minneapolis)

Since it appears like the Blackhawks will likely lose this series (hopefully they can be the fourth comeback from down 0-3), what positives can be drawn from their play looking towards next season?

Jesse Roges
  (4:09 PM)

Hard to say just based on this series but Frolik emerging on both ends is interesting..yesterday when asked about his offense, Q answered about his defense..they like his awareness and how smart he is..You could also make the case, alot went wrong this year and they still made the playoffs so with rest and a few other things changing they should be better..a few rolse players showed they can play..but a few will be gone..those are some thoughts

Russ Kranz (VERMONT)

Who has had a better series Kesler or Toews.

Jesse Roges
  (4:10 PM)

Hmm..Tough one but I would say kesler based on first 3 games...like his defense, pk...toews is always doing something right so pretty close.

Joe (Out East)

JR, really surprising that Dowell is not showing more in the playoffs? Thought if he had anything it was heart and that what he lacked in skill would show-up as heart in the post-season. Maybe his head is elsewhere ala Brouwer of last year? Maybe calling out Kane (as was rumored) is coming back to bite him? Anyway, can you say "free-agent" gone.

Jesse Roges
  (4:11 PM)

first off, There was no "calling" out...second, I agree the edge isnt there like it needs to be..doubt he will be here next yr...like hte kid but not edgy enough..

daren (riverside)

Is Scott in the lineup tonight? Do you think he should be? Why didn't biexa not get an intstigation penalty in the last game?

Jesse Roges
  (4:14 PM)

Sorry some internet probs..scott is in the lineup for seabrook again...I answered the bieksa question earlier.

Jesse Roges
  (4:14 PM)

Chris (Lincoln Park)

Where is Marian Hossa? As a top 5 (talent wise) guy in the league, why has he consistently proven to be so inconsistent over the last 2 years? Is this what we can expect from Hossa the rest of his Hawks career...just a good streaky player?

Jesse Roges
  (4:15 PM)

Good question. Not sure whats up with him..he sayd hes trying and has to do more but he does seem to be slowing down a bit..he looked so good in training camp so its weird but maybe the 3 finals years and the wear and tear is catching up..plus hes not always been the best playoff performer..as the yrs go by he will become a 3rd line player and thats it

Katie (school)

Will Thomas Kopecky be back next season?

Jesse Roges
  (4:16 PM)

Guessing noe

Jason (Elkins, WV)

Jesse- I am a big fan- what do you expect from Vancouver tonight? and do the Hawks hopes rest on d men jumping into the play or do you have a "feeling" Kane, Toews or Hossa makes an appearance on the scoresheet tonight?

Jesse Roges
  (4:18 PM)

Def need the d-men to help out..thats when theyve been thier best but have to be careful fo odd man against..I think van is much more mentally tougher than last yr so I expect them to be good..

Jesse Roges
  (4:18 PM)

Mike (Oak Park)

Hey Jesse, big fan here! IF (and it's a big if) the Hawks can pull one out tonight do you favor them to win the series or is that still wishful thinking?

Jesse Roges
  (4:20 PM)

I think if they win tonight there is a decent chance..so hard to predict it but last game certainly put some doubt on the canucks..Im sure of that but is it enough to see it go the other way. not sure...no margin for error..one bad game or even period by craw and its over so tough to predict a come back. very tough

Jamie (DeLand FL)

Do the players have a pre game meal together as a team? Whatever they had Tuesday they should serve up again.

Jesse Roges
  (4:21 PM)

Yes, every game they have a meal and its the basically the same so whatever they ate before they won is what they ate before they lost!

Steve (Chicago)

Did Luongo tweak his back Tuesday? Does he seem to be hurting at all based off what you saw in the morning skate?

Jesse Roges
  (4:22 PM)

He had a moment in that game towards end othe period but looked ok today..hard to tell since hes not going full throttle but he looked ok

Snuggs (Elk Grove IL)

Is Toews hurt? Cause lately he has not been the player we know he can be. So I figure its one of two things. 1. Either he's lost a touch of desire to winning. Which I extremely doubt. Or 2. Which is he's hurt somewhere that is effecting his play. He's just not the same player he was earlier this year.

Jesse Roges
  (4:23 PM)

Neither..hes going up against one of the best def players in the league in kesler and Van in general is very good..just a tough road right now but he still does the little things

Brady (Chicago)

A buddy of mine suggested trading Patrick Kane to help with the salary cap situation. Would the Blackhawks EVER consider something like this?

Jesse Roges
  (4:23 PM)

You consider nearly everything but the answer is no

kliepelt (iowa city)

Canucks will probably start off today's game hard, just like in game 1. Do you see the Hawks weathering the storm early this time? I think if they can steal one tonight, they get deeper into the Cancucks' heads and we will likely see this series go 7 games.

Jesse Roges
  (4:24 PM)

Both teams should come out on fire..no way to know who gets the edge..the obvious answer to your question is ye a win tonight and we go 7 but van is a good team..they could win in chi..like I said before, margin for error small facing elimination..one bad bounce...

Jon (Fullerton)

Out of the upcoming free agents that are currently blackhawks which Hawks are the most important to sign ( Frolik, Campoli, Brouwer, Stalberg, Crawford)

Jesse Roges
  (4:25 PM)

Crawford easily

David (Chicago)

Hey Jesse, are there any roster moves that you would like to see happen this summer? Or do you have any predictions about moves the front office might be looking to make?

Jesse Roges
  (4:27 PM)

I mentioned the other day on twitter (@espnchihawks) last games lineup could look a lot (not completely of course) like next yr roster barring a trade...pisani, dowell, turco, kopy all gone..kruger, ben smith in...obviously there will be some more changes...they need a big center but not easy to find

Tom McGovern (Chicago, IL)

Why not sit Kruger in favor of Pisani?

Jesse Roges
  (4:28 PM)

Kruger has more upside is the basic answer..pisani a little more relaible in some areas but kruger can provide more offense...I still like kruger..coming along

Nick SF (sf)

Jesse, Did you read the article "Who has the Puck". What are your thoughts?

Jesse Roges
  (4:29 PM)

Have not read it yet..on espn.com if youre wondering..about game 6 puck last yr...I talked with the writer extensively as he was working on it..I think he's on the right track..will read it later..

Matt (DeKalb)

Jesse, do you feel like the Hawks are in the Canucks heads? I feel like not yet, but if we win tonight we would be in their heads.

Jesse Roges
  (4:30 PM)

I think they are a LITTLE..have to be after that game..hawks are right about one thing...pressure on them but that doesnt mean they dont meet it but it does mean if the hawks play loose and GET A LEAD of 2 goals we could see the same result..2 goal lead needed tonight

Jack (DG)

Do you think the series would be even at 2 if Bolland was back earlier?

Jesse Roges
  (4:31 PM)

Yes.

Adam (San Diego)

Fair or not? I'm putting game 3 on Coach Q for playing Scott rather than Bickell. I thought it was a bad idea when I read about it on your blog... then Scott takes a dumb penalty, Nucks score on the powerplay, and momentum shifts to them.

Jesse Roges
  (4:32 PM)

Disagree..first of bickell was hurting..2nd, one lousy int call should not have torpedoed the game..too soft for that...plus the canucks were going to get a call at some point and scott just happened to be the guy

RKS (Indiana)

Will coach Q be able to get the Bolland line on the ice against the Sedins consistently even though the hawks are on the road?

Jesse Roges
  (4:35 PM)

Thats the key..for 2 yrs now Ivew watched them change on the fly...Its crazy..camera Im sure doesnt pick it up...u have guys flying over the boards left and right and then jumpin back over..or the puck is dropped on faceoff and 5 come off and 5 go on...I worry about the defense, especially in the 2nd period..thats where you defend the goal farthest from your bench..for example..if john scott is stuck out there and the sedins get on, watch out..but the hawks have been GREAT with their communication in the past..they know what to do just have to do it..the smallest mistake/delay could cost you the game though..watch for that

Dan (Chi-town)

J, the Hawks went on that eight game win streak, and shortly thereafter Bolland was concussed. Team didn't finish strong down the stretch. How does he change the team so much?

Jesse Roges
  (4:37 PM)

First of all, other player shave told me and denis Savard told me 2 yrs ago, he is the SMARTEST player on the team..so you lose that you lose soemthing...2nd he can play both ends, especially on defense so it frees up other, like toews, etc. to play offense...he's kind of the glue..thats players talking not me..he does as much as anyone who isnt conisdered a "superstar" etc. I said on radio many times he was a key to the series and he might just prove to be.

John (Arlington Heights, IL)

What is the mood in Vancouver of the Canucks and their fans? Did Game 4 spark any fear as the ghosts of years past emerge?

Jesse Roges
  (4:37 PM)

I would say a little...a loss tonight and the ghosts appear everywhere

Michael (Chicago)

Has Luongo talked to the media ever since he gave up 7? If he has, has he been calm or does he still seem a little shell-shocked? Do you think that injury affected him at the end of the first and if so is he still a little sore

Jesse Roges
  (4:38 PM)

He talked after last game and I think yesterday but not today...doesnt look sore but I cant tell you for sure

Frank (Naperville)

How would you evaluate the play of Kruger and Smith and what kind of impact can they make next year?

Jesse Roges
  (4:39 PM)

Nice flashes...dont see why they cant imporve..center is tougher position but kruger is a heady guy so he'll grow into it..needs to put on some weight..smith just needs experience it looks like..my amateur opinion

skip (aurora)

the hawks have a lot of salary tied up, going forward, with their d-men. I know you have mentioned that there is an open invitation for teams to pursue campbell. If no one pursues campbell, do you see them keeping all the d-men, and if not who would be the most likely to go?

Jesse Roges
  (4:42 PM)

Most think Hjalmarsson is in the position to be moved for a variety of reasons starting with salary...leddy and campoli come cheaper...not saying its going to happen but it does make some sense..he regressed a little but hes still young enough where a team might take him...they would move him to free up money more than not liking him and he's just the most likely candidate

Scott (Nashville)

What is the vibe in Vancouver about the Canucks after the drubbing in Game 4?

Jesse Roges
  (4:43 PM)

Little nervous...but as always in situations like this, people want to see rebound game...can always have a bad one, even in playoffs, but its how they rebound that will be interesting...I think its back to a more "normal" game and outcome

Chris (Loop)

I think game 4 reminded Luongo how we tortured him the last two seasons and we put a 5 spot on him tonight. I don't want to hear all this garbage about how he is a professional, blah, blah, the Hawks are in his kitchen and we broke him down on Tuesday. Sorry this isn't a question.

Jesse Roges
  (4:43 PM)

Works for me

Doug (Wilton, CT)

Keith, in my opinion, has become a major liability on the back end. The guy makes boneheaded mistakes game in and game out, whether its not covering in front, not being physical, or turning the puck over with his out of control skating style or a blocked shot. Why do the media seem to give this guy a pass? What is your take on his 2010-2011 season?

Jesse Roges
  (4:46 PM)

Read my blogs from Games 1-3 (or my tweets!)...this media didnt give him a pass...hopefully its just fatigue but he needs a mental makeover this summer..I think its complicated..I'll sum it up this way: no other player misses last year's team more than him...My take on his season is its been avg at best..i give him a pass for the minutes he plays and sho plays against but hey, you have to perform and it hasnt been there..offense still decent (except for the blocked shots) but defensively has been mediocre

Jesse Roges
  (4:46 PM)

who plays aganst that should say

George (Work)

Assuming the hawks don't make it out of this round, I say we go young next year with Kruger, Morin, Beach, Smith... What do you think?

Jesse Roges
  (4:46 PM)

beach will be on the first trade out of here in my opinion...the others are prob here..

Greg (Downers Grove)

How does the team feel after the long trip back to Vancouver? How was the morning skate compared to pre-game 4? What's your prediction for tonight based on how they look/feel?

Jesse Roges
  (4:48 PM)

As Q says, morning skates are tough to judge..but one question Ive been asking since Tues is simply, now that they have a taste dont they want more? I will say this, they are not cocky nor think they have the nucks where they want them or anything silly like that...no margin for error down 3-0 and hockey is a game of errors...but they are confident they can repeat game 4 performance..afterall, they have bolland. :)

Scott (Nashville)

How much will the salary cap go up under the new TV deal?

Jesse Roges
  (4:49 PM)

Im not expert enough to know but i think 2-3 million for next yr

brad (chicago)

do you think keith will be back to his old form tonight riding off his play from the other night?

Jesse Roges
  (4:49 PM)

Maybe. been waiting for a 2nd wind..sometimes hes better without seabrook it seems this year..more focused in when he cant rely on 7..

Charles (Libertyville)

Is Turco as good as gone after this year, or is there an ongoing need for a veteran mentor to Crawford, assuming we resign Craw

Jesse Roges
  (4:50 PM)

Turco is gone. but I love the guy. cracks me up.They'll have a 500k backup net yr.

Scott (Nashville)

Do you have a vote for the NHL Awards?

Jesse Roges
  (4:51 PM)

yes, shoot me but I voted for d.sedin for MVP, crawford for rookie, datsyuk for selke, maybe weber for norris?? cant remember

Jesse Roges
  (4:51 PM)

yes, shoot me but I voted for d.sedin for MVP, crawford for rookie, datsyuk for selke, maybe weber for norris?? cant remember

Bret (Champaign, IL)

JR, who do you think needs to show up tonight for the hawks to get the W in Vancouver. I would like to see more out of Toews and Hossa, do you agree? Also, if the canucks score first, do you think the hawks can rebound being down 3-1, in vancouver.

Jesse Roges
  (4:53 PM)

Well, I did a video with eddie o. today..it should/will be up on the website soon and he picked both those guys needing to step up...man, hossa has been invisble..hawks have an edge...bolland/sedin match...kesler/Toews match...so who matches with sharp/Hossa..no one good enough..that line with ben smith wins the game in my opinion

Dan (Chicago)

from what you know, COULD Bolland have come back any earlier?

Jesse Roges
  (4:54 PM)

Nope. Wasnt finally cleared till Tuesday morning..no way...they wanted game 3..docs have to clear..

Louie (California)

I'm all about focusing on the task at-hand (winning Game 5), but do you think Scott should drop the gloves with either Bieksa or Torres tonight to try and deflate the Vancouver crowd? Assuming we have a lead, of course...

Jesse Roges
  (4:54 PM)

Yes, Im all for scott dropping hte gloves with anyone..a trade off of him and anyone benefits the hawks and will undoubtedly win the fight and that benefits them as well...wont happen though

Dominic (Chicago)

Is Seabrook's injury still listed as an upper body or is he concussed?

Jesse Roges
  (4:55 PM)

hes concussed or cncussed like but they wont say it...they dont like to say it

Bill (Chicago)

Any word on how Jeremy Morin is recovering? I think Kruger, Smith, Morin, and throw in Beach with the current core could be something for years to come!

Jesse Roges
  (4:55 PM)

Saw morin at the UC..said he was doing fine...I dont think beach is in their plans..gut feeling

Josh (Chicago)

frolik has been good in the last few games, do you think the hawks will keep him?

George (Chicago)

Building off your Frolik comments earlier...his speed in the offensive zone led to two important goals last game. Even if he hasn't finished a lot of scoring chances, I think he's got the makings of a valuable player. Can/do we keep him with the cap?

Jesse Roges
  (4:56 PM)

yes

Jesse Roges
  (4:57 PM)

Q likes his defense so maybe he plays the third line role next year hes playing now..i think theyve learned about his D since he got here

Mike (Denver)

What are your thoughts on signing Crawford and extending Sharp's deal? Seems Sharp is pretty important to all things offense.

Jesse Roges
  (4:58 PM)

Im going to say both happen...100 percent on craw

Joe (Chicago)

Did you see Kane go down after that love-tap of a punch on Tuesday? That was hysterical...it can't imagine that helped him win any tough points around the league.

Jesse Roges
  (4:58 PM)

he got hit in the eye or near it he says...

Jesse Roges
  (5:00 PM)

Thast going to do it for today..have to jump on espn 1000 right now so tune in...follow me on twitter @espnchihawks for everything tonight...will have a new blog up soon from the morning skate...some leftover stuff from last game..talked to stalberg, etc. thanks for the questions..hopefully we'll be doing this again next week. you can always email me at jrogers@espnchicago.com..talk to ya tonight on twitter! should be fun
