Howdy everybody, let's get this Richmond (and Brazil and Houston) party started. You want to talk racing? This is the spot.
No Busch in the NW race tonight, I might actually enjoy this one! Finally!
What have you got against great driving? No, seriously, it would be nice to see a real Nationwide Series driver win tonight. I'll take Justin Allgaier.
No one is giving Gordon a shot this weekend. Since he dominated Phoenix and that is the closest track to Richmond, do you think he has a good shot?
I like Gordon's chances, yes. Was watching him in practice earlier and he looked comfortable. He was 28th in the final practice though. He'll qualify 16th, just as the track starts to cool off some.
When will we see Danica Patrick racing in the Brickyard 400?
Danica could win the Indy 500 and then why not go try and qualify for the Brickyard on what would be an IndyCar off weekend? But I doubt she will ever run both in a season. I'll be surprised if she races IndyCar at al beginning next season.
Nationwide qualifying is under way!
Are you the octo?
Where'd ya go?
Sorry, connection migh have gone on the fritz.
Great, guess I will leave this chat and go watch
Come back Shane! I mean Ken!
what the purpose of watching tonight since Rowdy decided to skip the NW race
It's racing at Richmond, so it's automatically good for one thing.
Why do you own AJ Pierzynski on all your teams?
Because ... Hey, who is this? Maybe I like old catchers!
K. since its appearent with all of the re-printed "Kyle the changed man" articles this week that all of the ESPN writters are covering the NFL draft. that being said HOW ABOUT MY JAGS landing Gabbert
No, no, no. Kyle is a changed man. And all the NASCAR writers are off. So you get me!
Which current full-time Cup driver do you think would make the best TV announcer? I'd go with Jeff Burton or Marcos Ambrose, or possibly (as a wild-card) Robby Gordon
Robby Gordon would be a hoot. Jeff Burton would be awesome and Marcos would be very good. My pick? Clint Bowyer. Dude is hilarious.
oh I will
Thanks Ken, I hate to have to beg.
K Lee, who is the biggest sleeper in this week's Sprint race at Richmond?
For sleeper, I think I'd have to go with Juan Pablo Montoya. He's been fast today and he's going to win at a track like this soon.
So I guess that begs the question of who I pick to win? Dale Earnhardt Jr. Yes, I'm serious. He's due and he was fast in practice.
lol, I just want to see the results
The results of my random thoughts?
Why not article on TBR getting sponsors? We like feel good articles and Newton said one was going to go up. It would be a welcome change from the norm.
We tend not to do sponsor stories (few of you guys seem to read them, for one) with the exception of the recent one on STP. But STP is kind of a special case. But good for those guys picking up a good sponsor to stay on the track
What does the "K" stand for?
Killer. I thought everybody knew that?
Consering NEwtons draft piece...who would you pick 1-5?
My top 5 in the draft ...Bayne, Allgaier, Stenhouse Jr., Danica, Darrell Wallace Jr.
It's early, but who looks good so far at qualifying?
Nationwide qualifying, Mike Bliss just had a good run up the second I think
K. Lee, Even though Junior hasn't won, is he back? He's been running great this season.
I do believe he's back. A win here would complete the comeback.
Whos your top 5 saturday night? I have 88 29 48 33 11
I have: 88, 24, 33, 48, 11
What is your stance on the Cup guys running NW? I understand why NASCAR does it, because a lot less fans would pay attention if they didn't. And I do like that they took the Cup guys out of the running for the NW title.
That's a tough one, because I know fans at the track want to see the big boys run. Fans on TV don't seem to as much, they just want to watch good racing. But tracks ned to make money, and they do make money under this system.
Killer, who are your favorite NASCAR driver interviews?
Hmmmmm. Bowyer is always good. Stewart can be great when he's in the right mood. Logano is actually good and a neat kid. Jeff Gordon is a real pro and Jimmie Johnson may be the most honest man in NASCAR. Burton's knowledge is off the charts. But my favorite? Montoya. He's a riot if he knows you.
How serious is this Trevor Bayne situation?
You know, we're not sure, but you don't like to hear it.
Hey Killer, early reviews on the new point structure? Good? Bad? Need more time?
I think we need more time. The top looks great right now, but you can see them separating out really quickly once the Chase starts. somebody like JJ may just lap the field before we even get to Texas. One bad finish in the Chase and you may be toast.
...so that article a few months back on RWI getting Aspen Dental as an associate sponsor was just a coincidence?
An article we did? I think not. Maybe the Associated Press wrote it up and we used it, but I don't remember any of our people doing anything on it.
How about Josh Wise last week? no tire call and stayed up front for a bit and got a solid top ten
Josh has been looking pretty sharp so far this season.
so no invite to the royal wedding for you?
I got shut out. But I did see some of it this morning! Gotta watch that stuff. Thumbs up on Kate's dress. Pippa's was nice as well. Princess Anne? Yikes, looked like someone threw a bowl of cole slaw on her. And the Queen didn't look dowdy for a chance
Do the track owners and NASCAR make money on the NW races? Stands are always very empty, does the TV package provide a profit?
Eddie Gossage told us at Texas he doesn'tr need more than 15,000 to break even on a Nationwide day, but he says to really make it work you need 30,000+. TV should make money, but I'm not privvy to the inside numbers (only a handful of people are), but remember that the cable networks, including ESPN, have multiple revenue streams, not just the on-air advertising.
Any British subjects driving in NASCAR? Were they watching the Royal Wedding this morning?
I guess as a New Zealander, Ambrose may fall under the Crown in some way.
Sitting next to Shannon Spake and Marty Smith. They are feverishly talking over things to talk about on SportsCenter.
Sup K. Lee....outta be a great race this weekend...after vickers radio interview last week and that espn the mag article a few months ago...is the a LESS sympathetic figure in the garage right now...i really don't think i like this guy....GO 88!
Newton's "Drivers On The Hot Seat" story last weak was spot-on to include Vickers.
Please save me Lee. I have Friday stuck in my head on eternal loop!!! Give me some juicy silly season news to ease my pain. :(
Juicy Silly Season News? JGR is not doing a crew chief switch ... yet.
From a journalistic viewpoint, is it difficult to remain totally impartial given how you develop relationships with various drivers? Gotta have my bowl, gotta have cereal.
It's not hard. They're not my friends.
Mess up Martys hair!
Can't! He has TV to do!!
K, whats your most memorable moment watching races at Richmond?
Actually Sam Hornish Jr. winning an IndyCar race here.
Holding you to it bro. Who's the next LEGITIMATE rookie of the year in NASCAR? Chase Elliott? LOL. Getting down on Friday...
I think it will be Austin Dillon, assuming Bayne won't qualify as a rookie next year
Lee, can you hook me up with some pit passes for the STP 400 at Kansas if I ask extremely nicely? Or at least a lock of Marty's hair or something?
Probably the lock of Marty's hair is easier!
Thanks Gang! That's my time today. See you tomorrow night for some Richmond racing!
