Greetings from Radio City for the NFL Draft!Fans are starting to pour in and there's a nervous energy in the air as we're just about an hour away from the first pick. And, because I know you can't wait for this information any longer... Patrick Peterson is my early pick for best dressed. And Detective Stabler from 'Law and Order: SVU' is here. Now that the important things are out of the way, let's way to get chatting!
With cam newton not being able to recite one of auburns plays. do you think that it will hurt his draft spot and if so how far do you think he will fall. because if he can recite a college play, whats to say he can remember the plays for the pro level
Well...no, I don't think it will hurt his stock. Numerous reports are flying around now saying it's a virtual lock the Panthers will take Newton first overall.
I saw Roger Goodell roaming about not too long ago. He looks like a man ready to be booed by thousands of people. For the record, I didn't know what that looked like until I saw the commish. But he looks slightly frightened.
If available, should the vikings drat ryan mallet with the 12th overall pick?
That's pretty high for Mallett considering all the red flags that have popped up as of late. I've heard Andy Dalton mentioned numerous time as a potential mid-1st rounder. I think that's also a reach but I'm no GM.
What r the rumors about the cowboys and pats trading pics.
ESPN Insider Chris Sprow is reporting that there are a LOT of trade talks going on behind the scenes right now. Some teams involved according to Chris are: Dallas, New England, Arizona, Minnesota and Seattle.
Any chance that a.j green is the pick? cam newton might take my spot
According to Sprow, Cam to Carolina is 99.9% about to become a reality. Sorry Jimmy.
A number of players making their way down the red carpet. The reporer doing the live coverage is struggling to say the least. He just confused Prince Amukamara and Akeem Ayers. It was awkward. Very, very awkward. Both players handled it far more graciously than I would have. Maybe the sting is lessened knowing how much money they're about to make.
Should the cowboys try and trade up and get Patrick Peterson
Have you seen Nick Fairley in person? I have and he's tremendous.. And scary
Yes. And if that happens expect a 20-30 minute delay in this chat while I dance the aisles of Radio City Music Hall.
Sure have, Greg. He's hard to miss. Although he's wearing a colorful bowtie which makes him signficiantles less intimidating. He also seems to one of the happiest guys I've seen today so far. He can't smiling. Still wouldn't want to face him on the field but he seems pretty jovial at the moment.
FYI: No one wants to see Josh dance down these aisles so please hope, for everyones sake, that Peterson does not end up in Dallas.
Chatter is that Von Miller may be the choose of the Broncos at #2. With as inept as we were agains the run last year, is there really a chance we could be passing up Marcel Dareus?
From everything I've seen today, yeah...looks that way. Unless of course you saw Von Miller's recent tweet showing some love to the Dallas Cowboys. Almost anything's possible at this point.
Who would you say is the best dressed player to arrive so far? Anyone rocking that swagger?
Love this question, Pat. Peterson is my No. 1 one so far but I've yet to see everyone. I have high hopes for Cam Newton tonight. If you are the presumed top pick, you have to bring your A fashion game. Don't worry, I will make sure to channel my inner-Joan Rivers and keep you updated on this aspect of the evening.
What should the titans do after the eigth pick? Maybe colin from nevada?
Much much too high for Kaepernick. He projects more as a 3rd-rounder but could come off the board in the 2nd round since it seems like QBs are being grossly overvalued this year. Wouldn't surprise me to see Locker go to Tennessee at no. 8. They could also wait until tomorrow to grab a QB and draft someone like Nick Fairley tonight.
D'Arcy, Jenn Brown is with Andy Dalton...Did you ESPN want to send you to Ryan Mallett's???
I would make an already awkward night even more awkward. Trust me. No one would want me at their home for this. And I think the Mallet's are too busy feeding John Daly tonight anyway.
I feel that no matter how things turn out in front of them, the 49ers will end up with a good day. Do you feel the same way and why?
I agree. The 49ers are in a great spot. They can sit back and see if Patrick Peterson or Blaine Gabbert falls to them or if they covet one of those two guys, they won't need to give up an arm and a leg to move up a couple spots to grab them. For what it's worth, I think San Fran stays where they are and takes the best available.
A 'we want football' chant has broken out. Nothing unites all fan bases like a common enemy. Thanks Rog!
The Draft prospects in attendance are being announced and brought on stage. Largest applause so far for Fairley and Green. Julio Jones seems to be the least popular. Handful of boos. Still better off than Goodell though at this point.
...Nevermind. Cam Newton just came out. He has a LeBron like 'I don't care if you hate me... just buy my jersey'-swagger about him.
With so many holes why would Carolina not have some faith in Claussen and give the kid not only a weapon but a chance to succeed??
I couldn't agree with you more Matt. If you draft a QB in the 2nd round, you don't try to draft his replacement with the top overall pick one year later. In my opinion, Newton is too risky to take with the first pick especially with so many holes to fill on that team AND with what seems to be a QB-rich draft class.
Roger Goodell takes the stage. ALL boos and the 'we want football' chant. He keeps repeating 'I hear you'. This is super awkward.
Is cams dad with him
I'm on Cecil watch, Aaron but I've yet to see him so far. I'm sure he's here but I would imagine he's trying to avoid the cameras to ensure his son gets his day without him being a distraction. Don't think he would get a particularly warm reaction from the crowd. Just a hunch.
Who is the biggest draft sleeper coming into this year's draft?
Here's a few: Iowa QB Ricky Stanzi K-State RB Daniel Thomas, G-Tech RB Anthony Allen, USC WR Ronald Johnson, FV State WR Ricardo Lockette, Tennessee TE Luke Stocker, Marshall TE Lee Smith, LSU DT Drake Nevis, South Carolina DE Cliff Matthews, Oklahoma DE Jeremy Beal, UCF DE Bruce Miller, NC State LB Nate Irving, MSU Greg Jones, Illini Martez Wilson, UNC DB Kendric Burney, WVU DB Robert Sands -- Just to name a few.
Any chance the booing of roger gooddell makes the top plays on sportscenter?....please!
I would bank more on the 'Not Top Ten' list, Corey. He obviously expected it but I wouldn't think that would be all that great for anyone's ego.
Why would Roger side with the owners?? Should have sided with fans... We are the reason the NFL makes 9 billion!!
Because it's the role of the commisioner to work with the owners, Nick. I'm sure he understands where the NFLPA is coming from and their demands but it's his job to work with their owners and he would never publicly go against that.
Do you think the Patriots will draft Ingram?
Never know what Belichick has up his sleeve. Ingram is certainly possible if the Pats...stand...pat (ugh, sorry). Buzz around Radio City is the Pats are trying to package their 2 1st-rounders to move up. I'll guess they're targeting a DE like Cameron Jordan or Robert Quinn. Total guess.
What you thinking cleveland does with the 6th?
Literally ANYTHING can happen tonight. With the lockout and the subsequent stipulations preventing teams from trading players, draft picks could be flying around in every direction starting at 8pm ET. But if I'm GM-ing the Browns and we're sticking with the 6th pick, I sincerely hope Julio Jones is still around when we get on the clock.
Top five fan bases in the building (from where I'm sitting anyway): 1. Jets 2. Eagles 3. Giants 4. Pats 5. Packers
Just watched a line of anxious-looking mothers walk past in sparkling dresses. They are, by far, the most stressed looking group I've seen this far. I'm sure they all believe their sons should go No. 1. Awwwwww. Don't worry. That should be my only sappy comment of the evening.
Your thoughts on Andy Dalton and where he'll go?
My thoughts on Andy Dalton, Christian Ponder, Ryan Mallett, Greg McElroy, Ricky Stanzi and Colin Kaepernick are that they were all very good college QBs and deserve to be drafted from the 2nd-5th round of the NFL Draft. All this talk of these guys going in the 1st round is far too overblown for me.
Will prince amukamara drop to detroit?
I'll tell you what...it's looking that way. Clearly, Prince isn't going before Peterson and some believe the LSU CB could fall all the way to the 49ers at 7. If that happens and if Dallas passes at no. 9, Prince could be there for the Lions at no. 13.
Who is the best player in the draft.
That's such a loaded question, Seth. Who had the best college career is such a different question than who has the most potential or even, who will be the number 1 pick. And, I think it needs to be noted that the person who is considered the best today could be a bust this time two years down the road and a 6th rounder is a Pro Bowler. You just never know. No matter how much you actually know. If that makes any sense. Regardless, it appears Carolina thinks Cam Newton is the best player. So we'll see how that goes for them.
We're lucky enough to be seated in front of a woman in a full pink tutu and tiara with a 'Celebrity Queen' sign. Jury's still out on if she's a football fan or just wandered into the wrong building. Either way, I'm taking her photo and posting it on Twitter. I'll try and do this throughout the evening. Check 'em out if you're so inclined, @darcymaine_espn.
Whos' ready to get this Draft started??? Here comes the most upopular commish in the country. That is, until the NBA locks out too.
Panthers are on the clock! For about 20 seconds. It's been announced they've already selected.
Cam Newton is a Carolina Panther.
Anyone surprised by this pick?
Can't figure out who the crowd hates more - Newton or Goodell. Sheesh. This is uncomfortable.
Say what you will about Cam...it's a pretty impressive resume when you can say JUCO National Champion, Heisman Trophy winner, BCS Champion and top pick in the NFL Draft. Whether or not that's where the accolades end is still TBD.
Has Jimmy Clausen's career ended before it even really started?
I can't imagine Carolina lets Clausen start the season only to have Newton replace him. Well, unless Cam has trouble calling NFL plays.
D'Arcy, this one is for you...how important is it for a top five pick to make a splash and come out with a kickin' suit and dominate fashion wise before dominating on the field. I bet if you look back that guys like Leaf and Akili Smith were wearing traditional, JC Penney specials. Guys with flair steal the show.
I think Cam would agree with you on the, Cowboy, as being an entertainer is his No. 1 goal. But in all seriousness, it doesn't hurt to make an impression with fans at the Draft with a bomb suit, a good interview and some shallow promises on how you'll help the team. I bet Ryan Leaf is sitting on his couch as I type this wishing he had ponied up some more money for an Armani suit. THAT's definitely why he didn't make it in the pros.
Looks like Von Miller is heading to Denver.
With the No. 2 pick, the Broncos select... Von Miller!
There is nothing I like more than watching grown men cry. Adorable. Von is having some trouble making his way to the stage. This is causing Goodell to pace back and forth on the stage as he avoids eye contact with fans.
Jimmy Clausen just tweeted, "Congrats to Cam Newton! Welcome to the Panthers."
What happens when Carolina picks 1 again next yr with Andrew luck staring them in the face?
Great question. I'm sure they thought of that and it obviously didn't sway their decision. Remember, a year ago everyone was saying Jake Locker would be the top pick this year. No guarantee Luck is in Newton's position next year.
Bills about to grab Dareus.
Dareus gets to come out on the stage to Destiny's Child's 'Bills, Bills, Bills'. Get it? These NFL guys. So clever.
Should the cards take best qb available or address defense?
Heard today the Cardinals will draft the best available player as opposed to drafting to fill a need. If Gabbert is their top rated player available when they're on the clock, he'll be the pick.
Bengals take AJ Green! Just like Ochocinco predicted. I'm sure he'll have something to say about it.
A.J. Green to Cincy.
This is where the fun begins kids. Tons of trade buzz around the Cardinals with the 5th pick. Stay tuned.
Cam Newton just walked by me. Dude is HUGE. Wow. I'm impressed though, he just went over to congratulate Von Miller.
Wow. Peterson to Arizona. I'd say that's literally drafting the BEST available.
Chris Sprow is saying that Peterson will be traded to the Eagles in a deal involving Kevin Kolb once they are allowed to do so.
It seems that we are already seeing teams draft for talent instead of need? Is this a trend you expect throughout the rest of the first round?
Good observation, CJ. I think this year more than any other, teams are picking best available due to the fact that they can't formally make any trades involving active players. I think this will be a running theme. Probably more of that tonight than in most years. Peterson more than likely being a good example of that.
Do we have a trade? Julio Jones is on the phone. Is it the Browns, the Falcons or the Rams?
Falcons on the clock
And Julio Jones is going to the ATL.
...The clever NFL music people are now playing 'Midnight Train to Georgia'. Get it? Groan.
Now that's trading up. Falcons just moved up 21 spots to grab Julio Jones. Hey Atlanta fans...if you thought Matt Ryan, Roddy White and co. were explosive in the passing game last year. You haven't seen anything yet. Wow!
Jones definitely had no idea he was going to the Falcons. Or at least I'm assuming that based on his maroon shirt choice. Couldn't clash more with his new jersey and hat. Wouldn't you agree, Josh?
What does clash mean?
Crowd NOT happy with the 49ers pick the Aldon Smith selection. 'Aldon Sucks' chant has broken out. And I don't even see any SF fans here.
Falcons acquire 6th pick from Browns for 1st, 2nd, 4th-rd picks in 2011 and 1st and 4th-rd picks in 2012.
The Titans may have just walked right into Blaine Gabbert.
You the fans get to help the Titans select... the song their draft pick comes out to. Text your vote now to 67453! I'm just hopeful teams adopt this in the 7th round for which player they should select. It's like 'Choose Your Own Adventure'.
WHOA! Locker instead of Gabbert?? Who saw that coming?
Titans take Jake Locker!
Well, one thing is for certain. Jake Locker is the exact opposite of Vince Young. Fascinating pick.
Aldon Smith? I'm not saying this negatively, but what were we thinking? Do the Niners want to move him to OLB, or possibly trade him?
Aldon Smith is a freakish athlete who racked up a crazy number of sacks at Missouri. He can play OLB and probably will in San Fran. It's only surprising to see Smith go to the 49ers because they tried to do the same thing with Manny Lawson and that hasn't exactly worked out well.
WHAT ARE THE NINERS THINKING?!..
Now, if you'll excuse me...I have to use both hands to hyperventilate into this bag while my Cowboys pick. D'Arcy...all you.
Crowd seems to agree with you, Larry. Just watched him do an interview in-house and he was greeted with boos and yells of disbelief. Have to feel for the kid.
I knew Josh wouldn't be able to properly communicate while his beloved 'Boys make their pick. You'll know how Josh feels about this pick if he comes back to this chat or not.
D'arcy, Have you seen any potential draftees that could be the "next Bret Favre."
There is no way I can answer this question the way I want to without losing my job. I'm pleading the 5th.
The Cowboys take Tyron Smith. Josh, is this acceptable?
What were the cards thinking? Why would they not draft gabbert? Max hall isn't going to get you to the playoffs
Max Hall might not get them to the playoffs but John Skelton definitely will. Or... not. Cardinals are apparently going to be using the Peterson pick in a trade with the Eagles for Kevin Kolb.
That should give them an immediate upgrade in the QB department. Couldn't get any worse than last season.
Redskins have traded their pick to the Jaguars. Very interesting.
Looks like they're taking Gabbert. Or he just got a nice phone call from his grandmother. I'm banking on the former though.
Redskins traded the No. 10 pick for the Jaguars first and second round picks.
Done deal. Jacksonville takes Gabbert at No. 10.
Smith seems pretty happy about heading to Dallas. He's apparently been to the Stadium, although he didn't seem to know it was referred to as 'the house that Jerry built'. I'm sure he'll learn that quickly.
D'Arcy,3 QBs in the top 10?do you think there was even 3 worthy of the first round or are these teams desperate?
I'm very susprised, Jason. Would not have guessed three in the top ten. I'm interested how many will go by the end of the day at this rate. Josh said it best earlier, there are a lot of great college QBs in this Draft but it's pretty uncertain how many of them will translate at the next level. Seems weird so many teams are willing to gamble on them. I'm shocked by the Locker pick. Good kid but I think there are a lot of question marks about his ability to go as early as he did.
Texans take J.J. Watt at No. 11. The apparent one Houston fan in the building seems pleased.
Hi what do you think now of the redskins QB situation?
My general rule with the Redskins is to never try and make sense of any of their decisions. This is the same team that gave McNabb an extension right before benching him afterall... We'll see what they do with the No. 16 pick but I had thought they would take a QB at 10. Can't quite figure out their strategy. One thing is for sure, they're always entertaining. They're up soon enough.
Are you hearing the kolb for Peterson trade is 1 or 1 or is Philly's 23rd belong to Arizona now?
Unfortunately Dan, no players can actually be traded today due to the lockout so there is no formal trade in place. It seems that teams have informal deals in place but can't announce them yet and are by no means official. I suppose the Cards could tell the Eagles who they want with their pick but again, we won't know that officially. It could also mean other active players will be involved. Not entirely sure.
What did the Skins get for their 10th pick?
They got the Jags' first and second round picks. So they'll be up at No. 16 and 49.
Vikings select... Christian Ponder. This crowd could not be any more vocal of their disdain on this one.
Vikings should have gone with mallet.
Is ANY ONE happy with this pick? Anyone at all? The guy behind me in a the Vikings hat and costume is swearing up a storm and the comments are coming in fast and furious. Paul Walker style.
Speechless!!! Who is chris ponder..?
Sorry...I'm still here. Blacked out after the Cowboys actually made Tyron Smith a top-10 NFL Draft pick then I was snapped back to life by the sound of every Vikings fan in the world collectively saying 'WHAT?!?'
The Lions take Nick Fairley at 13.
We really could spend the next five minutes just posting the Ponder comments from angry Vikings fans. Tell us how you really feel. Wow.
Fairley and Suh? That's a dangerous young combo.
It's insane. I'm not sure that was the best pick for the Lions as a TEAM but man, you can't argue with value and you DEFINITELY can't argue with that duo up the middle.
Rams select Robert Quinn at 14.
Is it me, or are the Lions lookin good? If only they played in the NFC West, right? You're looking at a playoff team there. Too bad the Packers are there!
Still some concerns on the offensive line and in the defensive secondary. I'm exicted to see Adrian Peterson try to run up the middle on that duo twice a year for the next decade.
Rams play a Nelly song after the Quinn pick. It was the one about St. Louis. If that narrows it down. Fairley walked towards his interview mouthing the words. His family of 400 followed along. I love these moments.
Vikings got a diamond in the rough with ponder. I expect he will be a better pro qb than most drafted today.
We found one!!
Looks like the Fins are taking Mark Ingram here. He's smiling. Usually a good sign when the camera is on someone in the green room. Just ask Brady Quinn. Nevermind.
Whew. I'm relieved someone likes the Ponder pick.
Scratch that about Ingram. Miami takes Mike Pouncey.
where does Mark Ingram go?
That's the question of the hour, Gavin. I don't know. I would imagine it will be soon but I'm not hearing anything specifically at this moment.
I keep asking questions, and you clowns are not posting my questions OR answering them... NBA playoffs it is...
I know it seems hard to believe, Iowa but we're actually getting a ton of questions so I apologize if we're not getting to all of them. Please keep sending them in though! Or, if you're watching the playoffs, mind keeping us updated on the scores?
Who in the green grass are the skins gonna take??
Do the skins take Cam Jordan, Phil Taylor,or Ingram?
The 'Skins have to be one of the most asked-about teams. Looks like they're taking Ryan Kerrigan here. Or he's just talking on the phone, crying for no reason.
...And they do. Golf claps all around. Who saw that pick coming?
Impossible to tell right now. But with Gabbert still on the board at that point, the 2 of them will be compared their entire careers. At least by Titans fans.
Kerrigan's family all dressed in black. As if they're going to a funeral. Sounds about right. Welcome to Washington.
Chris Cooley just walked across the stage. Must be going over to greet his new teammate. Or he's just hoping to be drafted by another team.
The only boos louder than those for Goodell are those for the Patriots. It doesn't even matter who they take. Nothing personal, Nate Solder.
Very funny D'Arcy. Let me ask you who is your team?
Patriots. What's that about journalistic ethics? Josh got to say he was a Cowboys fan, I'm just following suit.
Nate Solder makes a lot of sense to the Patriots. He's an enormous, athletic blindside protector who can take over for Matt Light as early as next year. A little surprised the Pats weren't able to package their picks and move up.
ESPN Insider Chris Sprow is going to take a couple questions of here. Because he obviously knows more than I do. You don't get the Insider title for nothing. Fire away...
They showed a lot of conviction with the pick, but value will be the question mark. Will also be remembered as what started a run on QBs. Two more dropped in next four picks. One -- Ponder -- a total shock at No. 12.
I responded to a question regarding whether the Titans did well to get Locker.
Hey what do you think about cincinnati pick in aj green?
Best wideout in the draft, bar none. Home run. Consider Atlanta traded their Home Depot stock to get Julio Jones. Cincy gets a superior player two spots before for nothing.
Notably, A.J. Green has changed his name to A.J. Cuatro.
I like JJ watts, but a better pick for the Texans than some still on the board?
A little surprised they didn't get Quinn, who is the closest thing in the draft to DeMarcus Ware. Thought Wade Phillips would love him. But some medical questions may have turned them off. Watt is the epitome of safe. Solid.
Do you think the lions made a good pick. I think they should have gone after prince. There defense is pretty good already
LOVE the Lions pick. Remember, nothing helps a secondary more than 1) pressure on the QB, 2) Shutting down the run so you have more third and longs. Another way to attack that problem. Plus, a top 5 value at No. 13? Dig it.
When and where do you think Casey Mathews will go?
Third to fourth round.
Gabbert, locker or newton? Better qb in their carrers?
Show me the team that has the discipline to sit each for one or two full seasons and there's your best QB. They all need a red-shirt year. Cam's personal coach told me Cam needs to sit a year.
Do u think Dallas should of traded down to get an extra pick?Do u think he will make an impact now or later?
I was a little surprised they didn't, but if you can't find a dance partner, you can't trade down. Disciplined pick. Question is whether he can stay on the left side.
who do you think has fallen so far in the draft? And who did you think was an over reach with their pick?
Nobody has really dropped terribly. Amukamara easily could have landed at No. 20. Fairley was a bit of a surprise, but the run on QBs caused that. Reaches: Slight one on Aldon Smith, and Ponder.
Where do u think arron williams go. Does dallas have a shot
Baltimore or Pittsburgh later in Round 1.
Will the Seahawks pick a quarterback?
If Andy Dalton is still there, sure. After the reach on Ponder, Dalton suddenly looks like a steal that far down the board.
why has prince been passed on so much? i would've taken him if i was the vikings or patriots
Mostly people watched the tape and wondered, "Wait, who did he dominate that was actually good?" He's a solid player, but competition was a question. Not my opinion, stating summary.
Ok chris I have another question for you; as we well know the vikings basically reached for christian ponder do you think it was probably better for them to go with cornerback prince akamura instead?
Not necessarilly. But I'd guess Donovan McNabb has a better shot to start for them in Week 1 than Christian Ponder.
SProw, comment on Redskins 16th selection if you would.
I like it. Disciplined pick. They NEED to add picks, and have been killed because of all those lost picks over the years. You get a good player and you add picks. Could do a lot worse.
do you think Casey Matthews would be a good pick for the Packers with their late 2nd rd pick?
Not enough value. He's not proven as a pass-rusher like his bro.
What do you think of the Giants pick?
Great value, but Amukamara can't block, and every guy on that O-line is into their 30s. They need to be able to run and keep Manning upright.
I might be biased, but I don't think Stanzi gets the credit he deserves. If he gets the chance to learn from a Tom Brady or Mr. Manning I believe he will develop into a household name.
Just an arm strength issue with him. But definitely has a shot. Intangibles, experience all there. Plus his name is Stanzi. I just like saying it.
How did fairly drop to my lions? Wow what a do line
A run on QBs created a ton of value. Fairley, Quinn ... ton of talent that far down.
The 49ers reach too much on Aldon Smith?
Slight, but could have easily gone at No. 11. Sort of like McClain last year to Raiders at No. 7. Maybe a slight value reach, but good player in a key position. Why lose your mind over a few spots, right?
why didnt the Redskins get Mark Ingram thats what they needed to make up the offense please give me your thoughts and how you reacted to the draft
Since when has Shanahan believed he needed a Round 1 running back to run the ball effectively? Davis, Portis, etc etc etc.
What kind of future do you see for Tyron Smith? We really need solid. OL play
Like him, but question if he can stay on left side. He's also 30 pounds bigger than he was this time last year. Is he a mauler, or just got bigger? Ya dig?
Hopping out for a bit. Peace out, playaz.
Thanks to Chris for jumping in there! Definitely great info right there. Although I'm sure you missed my keen fashion observations. No? No one? Sucks for you. I'm back anyway.
Crowd seems relatively subdued since the NYG pick. Would imagine it will pick back up for the Jets. Although I think someone just proposed on the jumbotron.
Madden cover boy Peyton Hillis is announcing the Browns pick. They're taking Phil Taylor. Taylor gets relatively less applause than Hillis' biceps.
With Da'quan Bowers slipping bcuz of an apparent knee injury..if Mr Bower is still there when the Jets pick..do you think they would pick him?
Depends on if Cameron Jordan is still there or not. If no, I could see Rex taking a shot on Bowers. Talk about value...the guy was the no. 1 pick in the draft 2 months ago.
Total guess: not this year.
Who will alabamas mark ingram be selected by?
If I had a dollar for every time we were asked that question tonight, I would have at least nine dollars. I know the Packers are hoping he'll be around for their pick. But I can't imagine he'll still be available. I almost hope not for the sake of his dignity.
Chiefs trade? Do you think that was smart?
It's usually smart when you can move out of a position where you can't decide on who to draft and be able to acquire extra picks. Haven't heard what they got in return yet, but I'd imagine it was worth it.
Browns acquired 21st overall pick from Chiefs for 27th overall pick and 3rd round pick
Colts take Anthony Castonzo at 22. Looks like Peyton's successor isn't a first round priority. This year anyway.
Is it possible for mallet to get picked in the second round? Hopefully to Dallas?? ;)
Is this D'Arcy messing with me??
Why on earth wouldn't you want Mallet on the Cowboys, Josh?
Nice moment as a group of soldiers take the stage. U-S-A chants all around and a standing ovation.
Why do the Marines always look the sharpest? PROUD AMERICAN HERE!!
We second that Iowa.
Eagles take Danny Watkins at 23. Huh.
Usually obnoxious Eagles fans seem less than enthusiastic screaming E-A-G-L-E-S after that pick. My headache isn't complaining.
Here comes Mark Ingram's best chance of getting off the board in the first round (barring a trade of course). Saints are up.
I for one hope the Packers do get Ingram! What an offense with Rodgers, Jennings, and Finley!!
I understand you won the Super Bowl without him but c'mon Pack fans...no love for Ryan Grant?
Do you guys get as annoyed as I do watching the players get cell phone calls before they get picked? As that player I'd kind of want to hear my name announced. Not to mention it takes all the suspense out of the commish's announcement.
As a fan I'm with you, Naw. I love the suspense of when the commish says it. However, if I'm a player, I don't think I would want to wait a second longer than I had to. This has to be the most stressful day (or days in some cases) ever. I would be praying for my phone to ring like a high school girl waiting to get invited to prom.
Cam Jordan to New Orleans.
The Saints take Cameron Jordan at 24. So much for that Ingram pick. Speaking of someone anxiously waiting for the phone to ring...
Do the Chiefs address WR at 27 with Greg Little or look somewhere else?
Not a ton of value at the WR at this point. Jon Baldwin or Leonard Hankerson have a shot at going in the 1st round but I think they're more likely to come off the board tomorrow.
Cameron Jordan talking to in-house reporter about waiting to get picked: 'I was getting a little nervous, I had a little sweat on my brow.'
Seahawks pick James Carpenter. Everyone seemed to think they were going to take Dalton there.
The fans also selected 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' to be the team song.
How bad of shape am I in for my guy to drop so far?
Well...I'm no doctor, but it can't be good. There were some projections that had Bowers slipping to New Orleans at 24. Now that we know that's not happening, the official slide is on. I'm willing to bet the Patriots see tremendous value there.
Fans can send in their commentary to the video screens. I'm starting to think some NFL employees are rigging it. Some examples, 'I love the NFL' and 'Goodell is the best'. I find it hard to believe the angry, screaming fans behind me would text that.
Clock expires for the Ravens. Crowd counted down the final seconds.
Baltimore passes the pick. KC takes Jon Baldwin. Ravens will now pick next.
Lots of people scratching their heads at Radio City on that one.
What just happened with the ravens
The Ravens take Jimmy Smith with their now No. 27 pick. They had to pass their 26 to KC after time expired. Chances are they had a deal in place that feel through last minute. As a result they fall to the next spot in the Draft. A little strange.
Pats trade their pick to the Saints. Think they'll take Ingram here?
Did Baltimore miss their pick?
Yup, they did, Nick. But they just fell one spot as a result. Would sting a lot more if they had a top-ten pick.
Looks like the Saints are taking Mark Ingram with this new pick. I'm honestly relieved for him. He look like a nervous wreck waiting.
After the Christian Ponder pick, the Twins being outscored 21-4 today, and the continued implosion of the Timberwolves by McHale/Kahn ... I can't do it anymore. Are there any States accepting applications for new fans?!? Have mercy ...
Cheer up, Brendan. Kevin Love won Most Improved Player so... there's that. And you've got the Chris Ponder era to get excited for. Anyone want to adopt Brendan and his fandom?
There it is. Ingram to New Orleans.
What did the pats get in return for there 28th pick
Dennis, the Pats get the Saints 2012 first-round draft pick and their second-round pick from this year's draft.
no offense to either Josh or D'Arcy but Chris was better on here answering peoples questions and had more insight into picks!!
I don't know about Josh but I try to provide as little insight into picks as possible. It's kind of my thing.
Crowd chanting 'We want Bowers'. Think they'll get their wish?
Chiefs take a wr in 1st rnd. i felt a o lineman or d e would have been a better pick. your thoughts on balwin and our pick
I'm a bit surprised by it. Wasn't so sure Baldwin had a 1st-round grade. Gabe Carimi or possibly even Bowers would have made more sense to me for KC.
Bears select Gabe Carimi at 29. Jets fans continue chanting.
What did The Patriots gain by trading their pick?
Saints acquired 28th pick from Patriots for 2nd round pick in 2011 and 1st round pick in 2012.
Jets take Muhammad Wilkerson at 30. Crowd not thrilled. Somewhat hostile in fact. Welcome to NY, Muhammad.
Ummm, Rex, do you have room on the depth chart?
Steelers take Cameron Heyward. You know what it is. Or maybe you don't. But they're playing the song nontheless.
Why hasn't anyone taken bowers yet? He is definitely a top 5 D-lineman!
Assuming the injury concerns are worse than everyone initially thought, Laurel. He could end up being a real steal for whatever team does ultimately get him though.
Why did the saints pick Ingram? Aren't they already set at the runninng back position? I am confused, please answer.
Pierre Thomas, Reggie Bush and Chris Ivory. That's why.
With the final pick in the first round, the Pack select... Derek Sherrod.
Which team do you think had the best first round today?
Still nervous about falcons' pick. Anymore thoughts about our giving up so much for Julio Jones?
Pretty sure those nerves will subside when you see Matty Ice throwing ropes down field to Jones and White. Most impressive move of the day in my opinion. Saints moving back into the 1st round a close second.
Jaguars had the best first round. What a steal at 10
I really like the Lions draft thus far! If they can manage a sleeper tomorrow I would look for motor city making the playoffs!
Great day to be a defensive lineman today. A record 12 guys went in the first round.
12, but possibly the most talented one still waiting
Pretty amazing that 12 went and Bowers wasn't one of them. Can't imagine he'll have to wait too long tomorrow. But think it will be a pretty sleepless night for him tonight.
I am comfused Josh. Now, they have 4 players competing for the running back position? Ingram is arguable the best back o the board. Do you think he is a great fit in N.O.? Or do you think too many talented running backs and someone has to go?
Injuries (and fumbles) plagued Thomas and Ivory all year and Bush's future with the team is cloudy at best. The Saints rely so much on the deep passing game, they absolutely had to upgrade the rushing attack. Drafting the best RB in the 2011 class accomplished that.
Best First Round: Every team on the MN Viking's Schedule this season. Travaris Jackson -vs- Christian Ponder = Epic Training Camp Battle of the Reaches. Ryan Leaf can judge ....
Everyone was thinking it. You said it.
Previous record for defensive linemen in first round was 11 in 2003. Impress your friends with that fun fact.
What time does the draft start tommorrow and saturday?
The second round starts tomorrow night at 6 PM EST and Saturday kicks off at noon.
They're dimming the lights on us at Radio City. I think that's our cue to get out of here. Thanks to everyone for joining us tonight! We'll be back here tomorrow getting things started at 5 PM. Hope to see you then!
Thanks everyone!! We'll see you all tomorrow.
