Chat with Bill WIlliamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

Tony (American Fork Ut)

I read that Fox said we would address the DT in Free Agency. I looked at the list and really don't see anyone that would fill this large void. Am I missing something or does passing up a DT in RD 2 look like a big mistake?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

It is risky. If the 2010 rules are used for free agency, yes, there aren't many great DTs out there. But Denver has to do something. Denver didn't like the DTs after the first round. That's their choice, but it does have to find a solution somewhere.

Darren McFadden (Oakland, Ca)

Will I make the Pro Bowl this coming season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

Keep on making strides like you did last year and you're be Pro Bowl bound soon.

Noel (Denver)

Hey Bill, What do you think of Denver's draft. I think we are now set at LB and Safety for the next 3-5 years!!!

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

It was solid in all three games. I also liked the help at tight end.

Roberto (Atlanta)

This idea may be totally left-field but what do you think about the possibility of Denver going after Nnamdi Asomugha once free agency starts. Anything is possible in this league. Champ and Nnamdi would be quite the tandem.

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Sure, but I'm not sure Denver would spend the money it would take and I would think Asomugha would wnat to go to a tema with a better chance of winning.

Zach (Spokane WA)

Hey Bill, do you think Rahim Moore can make an immediate impact for the Denver defense? If so, is Renaldo Hill finally going to be cut?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

Hill will likely either be cut or be a backup. Moore is a smart player who is a ball hawk. He sould be able to adjust to the NFL game soon.

duane (denver)

Hey Bill...do you think the Broncos are going to get it together for unofficial team workouts? It's frustrating to read what other teams are doing see the Broncos not following suit after such a weak season in 2010.

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

Tebow said he is working with some teammates. I think there are pockets of every team working out together.

Jeff (Loveland, CO)

Bill...you're kidding about Moore possibly being cut, right? He's going to be the Broncos' starting FS for the next decade with Carter at SS.

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

No, we're talking about Renaldo Hill.

Matt (Santa Barbara)

doesn't it seem like the broncos hurt ortons trade value by naming tebow the starter?

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

Tebow was never named the starter.

Pete (New Mexico)

What characteristics is Denver looking for in DTs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

Somebody who can play the position. They can't be overly picky at this momemt.

barra804 (San Diego)

Hey Bill! Which player drafted by the Chargers do you think will have the biggest and most immediate impact next year and why?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

It's got to be Liuget. He is going to be the right defnesive end and I expect him to be very disruptive immediately.

Nick (Kansas City, MO)

Looking at the free agency list, there does not seem to be any really any must get players for KC. Pioli has stated he not only wants to have the best starters, but also the best back-ups in the league. Do you see the Chiefs targeting any specific role players other than depth for the OL? And have any idea who might be Haley type players of the ones available for free agency?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

Especially if free agency uses 2010 rules, I can see the Chiefs simply looking for depth in free agency.

Jared L (Eugene, ORE)

Who has a better chance of repeating... Your Giants, or the Packers

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

Packers.

Todd Kelly (Nashville, TN)

Do you see Dexter McCluster stepping forward in his 2nd year as a big playmaker for the Chiefs?

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

He must stay healthy. But he has some nice ability.

jacorey (stockton)

i like how the raiders keep drafting young receivers but wont bring in vets to help make their transition easier

Bill Williamson
  (2:19 PM)

I don't know where they have room for a vet with all the young receivers on the roster.

Curt (NJ)

How much impact will the addition of Jon Baldwin have on Dwayne Bowe this season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

I think it positively impacts the entire offense. It will help Bowe becuase Baldwin can stretch the field and gives the Chiefs a legitimate threat opposite of him.

Shaden (San Francisco, CA)

Bill, what are the chances Alex Smith ends up with the Raiders? All he would have to do is cross the Bay Bridge.

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

If he doesn't stay in S.F. -- and it sounds like he will -- I think he could go home to San Diego and reunite with Norv Turner.

jacorey (stockton)

i was watching taiwan jones highlghts on youtube hes very explosive i see the raiders playin mcfadden in the slot with him and bush in the back field

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

There are some dangerous possibilities here. But Jones has to stay healthy, stop fumbling and make the transition to the NFL game. If he can do all that he'll be very dangerous.

leland (texas)

did the chargers waste their draft like some are saying or did they get players that will contribute now as some are saying?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

Wasted draft? I don't see it. I think Sna Dieog got a lot of quality players.

Jon P (Larose, LA)

Take your pick Newton or Clausen?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

Really?

marcus (concord, CA)

If it came down to money, would it be smarter for the Raiders to keep Miller and Bush or Nnamdi? Are all three possible? Which is the most crucial for success, cause i don't think it's necessarily nnamdi.

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

I don't think keeping all three is possible. But if its 2010 rules, Miller and Bush would be restricted anyway. Here is who I think are the most imporatn in order: Asomugha, Miller, Bush.

Marc (Denver)

Bill - why is everyone so critical of Baldwin, the Chiefs' newest WR? He's ALREADY been working out with Larry Fitzgerald, he's 6'5", runs a 4.4 and a 42" vertical leap and has excellent hands, whats not to like?

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

The attitude.

nathan (CT)

what r the chances nnamdi resigns with the raiders. the corners they drafted are on the small size and fit better at the nickel and dime positions. i can see them replacing nnamdi with those picks or anyone else on the roster

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

After Oakland took CBs in the third and fourth rounds, it looks slimmer. Why would Oakland commit to so much youth at the posiiton if it thinks Nnamdi is staying.

Victor (Sacramento, CA)

Had Rudolph the TE from ND been there when the Broncos picked in round 2, you think they would have nabbed him? Also, why not take a chance on Bowers in round 2?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

I think Denver liked Rudolph a lot and I think he could have been a choice at No. 45 or 46. Denver was too worried about Bowers' knee to take him. The Broncos couldn't afford to take a shot at him. They need non-risk help on defense.

Dan (Connecticut)

Do you think it was wise for San Diego to select Corey Liugett when Cameron Jordan was still available (and a more ideal 5 technique)?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

Liuget was ranked higher on the Chargers' board than Jordan.

JaCorey (Stockton)

raiders didn't get a QB what are the chances they bring in a young arm or veteran arm when the lock-out is ended?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

I know they like Boller as a backup. Oakland may be set at QB for the next year

Drew (LA)

how much more wide open will the chiefs offense be now with Baldwin opposite of D-BOWE

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

If Baldwin adjusts quickly to the NFL, I think this offense will be multi-facted and dangerous. It will be fun to watch. Matt Cassel has a lot of weapons.

Dan (Connecticut)

Would Tommie Harris, who was released by Chicago, be an ideal DT for Denver?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

He could be someone they look at. But he is considered as a player who is on the back nine of his career.

nathanael (Springfield)

Bowe tends to be a yo yo. He plays well for a time then he does nothing. I think it is possible that Balwin take number WR spot If he can get his pride in check. Do you think he could pass bowe for that spot if he stays out of the Haley dog house?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

I think if Baldwin performs well that will serve as motivation for Bowe.

Tom (Kansas City)

Since Stanzi is most likely going to be the primary backup, where do you see Croyle ending up? He's got a great arm, Oakland maybe?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

I Stanzi will be the backup and Croyle will be elsewhere. To be hoenst, I'm not sure who will be interested in Croyle. The bottom line is game performance and he has looked awful in most of his game action.

Disinterested Gorilla (San Diego Zoo)

Why didn't the Raiders go after Mallet? Al Davis loves big arms and guys that can stretch the field. Where they concerned he was too immobile and robotic?

The bottom line is game performance and he has looked awful in most of his game action. On Mallett: It would have been interested to see if would have pased him up at No. 81. He went to New England seven picks earlier.

Shane (Vacaville)

There are some rumors floating around that WR Steve Smith is looking to play for a westcoast, future contending team. Namely either the Raiders or Chargers. Is it possible that the Raiders could acquire him? What might they have to give up to get him and where would he fit in?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

I just heard that during this chat. I'll check it out and I'll adress later today in the blog if I think it's worthwhile.

Disinterested Gorilla (San Diego Zoo)

Did you think the Raider's draft illustrates that Hue is figuring his guys out? Seems like the Raiders are getting close.

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

I think the draft illustares that Al is in charge still and he makes the call, as always.

JaCorey (Stockton)

Is Jason Campbell the future QB for the Raiders.?If not what about trading for kolb?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

Campbell is the future for now. If he fails in 2011, Oakland will move on. But for now, it's all Campbell in Oakland.

Cody (North Dakota)

Whats with the Orton for Haynesworth whispers I have been hearing?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

A Denver radio station reproted it during the draft. It's dot connecting.

player (san diego)

what position do u see marcus gilcrust playing in the chargers system?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

If Weddle were to leave, i think he could move forom CB to safety. He's a versatile player who the Chargers will likley look at both CB and at safety,

JaCorey (Stockton)

i feel that marcel reece's hands are way to good for fb how would you feel about moving him to tigh end with his big frame

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

He's a greta weapon at as a FB. I know the position is dying, but it still matters in Oakland and Reece does a great job.

Brenton (State College, PA)

Hey Bill, there were a couple players I was a little surprised to see not get drafted such as Pat Devlin and Ryan Bartholomew. Both of these players I think could fit in with the Raiders. Any thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

I think they will both will be priority college free agents when the lockout is over,

Dan (Connecticut)

Do you think Darius Heyward-Bey will have a break out season this year, similar to the sort of season Darrne McFadden had last year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

He'll have to work hard at it. DHB and McFadden are two differnt people.

Dan (Connecticut)

Do you think Jordan Todman could replace Darren Sproles in San Diego's backfied?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

I think that's plan if Sproles leaves. Todman has a chance to contribute.

Noah (Lincoln, NE)

Do you expect Javier Arenas to take a larger role in the Chiefs defense this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

He has a chance but don't discount the Brown kid from Colorado, either. He was a nice mid-round pick.

Dan (Connecticut)

Joseph Barksdale didn't receive good reviews. Where do see him playing on Oakland's offensive line?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

I'd be surprised if he was ready to play this year. He has potential but he is a work in progress who must show the neccesary work ethic.

jesse (kirksville)

where do you see the guy from yale contributing in kc?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Probably on special teams to start.

JaCorey (Stockton)

are the raiders looking at reggie bush

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

No, they are set there, I do believe.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour folks. Talk to you next week.
