Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

mike a.k.a. iceman (kennewick, WA)

who do you think will be the starting wide-out for the raiders week #1 j.ford or DHB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:01 PM)

I'd guess Ford and Murphy. They seem to be the most reliable receivers on the roster as of now.

Knowledge (FLA)

What would SD have to give up to get Steve Smith?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Probably a mid-round pick, likely a conditional choice based on his 2011 stats.

Chris (Myrtle Beach, SC)

With Jacoby Ford having a great second half of the season, do you think the Raiders will relieve him of return duty as a safety precaution?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

We're going to address that subject Friday in the blog.

Joel (McDaid)

With the Broncos defensive switch do they plan to keep Doom on the line or as a linebacker? Or what's the best situation for him to be successful coming off of his injury?

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

He's going to be a defensisve end, rushing off the edge.

Nathan (DC)

What the heck happens with Darren Sproles? Is there now a chance he stays in San Diego? A lot of teams have similar role-players--especially young guys from the last two drafts--and Reggie Bush may be on the market as well...

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I don't think Sproles will get exactly what he wants from any team. But the only way he stays in San Diego is if he accpets what the Chargers are offering regardless if he has a better offer elsewhere.

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

Tackles: Clady and Orlando FranklinC: J.D. WaltonGuards: Chris Kuper, Zane Beadles

Nathan (DC)

Not really familiar with their payroll situation---can the Broncos be active in free agency (if we ever get it)?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

I think they'll be fairly active. They may not go crazy, but they will look to fill some needs.

mike (kennewick, WA)

do u think m.bush will be on the raiders roster next season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

Well, it depends on what is the deal with free agency. But I think, the odds are fairly good he remains in Oakland. I tell you this, if he gets free, I could see Denver showing interest. The Broncos could use a bruiser like Bush, as would several teams.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Better potential FA fit for the Broncos: Ray Edwards or Charles Johnson?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

I'd say Johnson considering his history with New Denver coach John Fox in Carolina.

Stephen (Ann Arbor, MI)

What do you think about Asomugha and the Eagles? Is this a good fit?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

There's been a lot of dot connecting there. I could see the Eagles being a player for Nnamdi.

Coach Rob (San Diego)

Are you surprised that the Chargers didn't take a RB early in the draft? I still don't see Ryan Matthews as the answer. He needs to take off his skirt and blouse and stop being so fragile and prone to fumbling. Or is Turner just going with this philosophy that "my lineup is set" and he won't entertain the possibility of a different starter at RB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

No, they like Mathews and Tolbert. I think the Chargers wanted to fill other spots with their early choices.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

The Broncos will have had a good season if they win ____ games. (My number is 5).

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

6-7. They won four last year.

Jon (Eagle, Colorado)

Great blog, Bill. I read everyday and love to see something about my Chiefs daily. Question: With Thomas Jones aging can we expect to see a heavier load for Jamaal Charles? If so, do you think that's dangersous territory considering Jamaal's build and what seems to be a lack of depth at the position? Thanks!

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

Thanks, Jon ... I think that is going to be a key question for the Chiefs. Jones' produciton did slip at the end of last season Charles is a weapon and he needs more carries, but there are durability concerns, so the Chiefs will have to be careful. The drafting of receiver Jon Baldwin in the first round should help. It will make the passing game more dangerous and give the offense more overall options.

Ed (San Diego)

What do you think of the Chargers draft? Wasn't very sexy but the defense and special teams should be better.

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

Exactly. There weren't a lot of household names, but I think this defense and special teams got a lot deeper.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Off the top of your head, name a player in the division that gives good interviews -- is funny, candid, etc.

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

Philip Rivers, Champ Bailey, Nnamdi Asomugha, Richard Seymour, Stanford Routt, Chaz Schilens, Jacoby Ford, Ryan Lilja, Matt Cassel, Brian Waters, Glenn Dorsey, Derrick Johnson, Eric Berry, Mike Tolbert, Antonio gates, Marcus McNeill, Nick ahrdwick, Shaun Phillips, Eric Weddle,Antoine Cason, Quentin Jammer, Brian Dawkins, Ryan Harris, Kyle Orton ... I could come up with more. This sia good interview division.

Stephen (Ann Arbor, MI)

Bill. How come Quinten Jammer never gets the regcognition he deserves? He may not get the big pick-6, but this guy can play defense with the best of em'.

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

I'm a fan. I think he's had a fine career. Underrated player.

mike (kennewick, WA)

if the raiders loss gallery to free agency. then who start at LG loper? or do u see them signing a free agent?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

Bruce Cmapbell will get a chance at guard or tackle.

Nathan (DC)

If Nnamdi leaves the Raiders, will they attempt to replace him with someone that's already on the roster, or go out and get another top-flight (but less expensive) corner?

Bill Williamson
  (2:28 PM)

No much thing as top flight and relatively cheap CBs. They'd probably go get someone, but the focus would be on the corners already on the roster, including the two draft picks.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Do you think the Broncos should have found a way to trade up for Nick Fairley, or did they do the right thing with their draft moves?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

They'd have Miller and Fairley and not much else. This is a team with major holes. Denver thinks it got five starters in the draft. Of course, these players don't have the ceiling that Fairley does, but a team much closer to the playoffs would make a trade like that, not one with so many issues.

Jeremy (San Diego)

Mediation is supposed to start again next week. Do you think both sides are actully going to work on getting a deal done?

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

I sure hope so, but they haven't shown the willingness to be serious so far. It's a shame they haven't continued to talk.

Andy (UT)

I dont know much about the Chiefs seventh round pick out of Yale (Bannon), but was he brought in as a potential successor to Jones?

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

He's a FB, H-back, special-teams type.

jesse (kirksville)

With Baldwin as #2 receiver, do u think the chiefs have found their offensive solution? I mean outside bowe Charles and moeaki, its pretty dead

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

Bowe, Badlwin, Moeaki and that run game is pretty solid.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Is Ryan Harris good as gone, and do the Texans snatch him up ASAP?

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

Yes, Texans. Don't forget about Mike Shanahan and the Redskins. He drafted Harris.

Nathan (DC)

You okay with the Chiefs selecting Baldwin in the first round?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

Yep, fine with it. You?

Tyler (Hamilton, ON)

Hey Bill, if Demaryius Thomas can stay healthy, do you think he has the talent to make the receivers power ranking list on ESPN in a few years?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

He has potential, but his health is a huge question.

mike (kennewick, wa)

what do u think about the taiwan jones pick? how do u think the raiders use him year one?

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

I like his potential. He needs to stay healthy and hold onto the ball. But I think that offense can be scary on third down with McFadden, Jones and Ford on the field.

Randy (Grove, OK)

Do you see this seasons Chiefs rookies being productive as the 2010 rookie class?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

I like that group and I think we will see good produciton. But that's asking a lot. The 2010 class was very solid.

Jeremy (San Diego)

Lately the Raiders have been striking gold in the 4th round with picks like Jacoby Ford, Louis Murphey, Micheal Bush & Tyvon Branch. Do you think that trend keeps going with Taiwan Jones and Chemdi Chekwa?

Bill Williamson
  (2:40 PM)

Why not? They both have a chance.

Disinterested Gorilla (San Diego Zoo)

Are these team gatherings a form of OTA's? And if so, who directs them?

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

Most NFL teams are meeting in some form, whether it's big or small pockets. Uusally, the QB organizes the workouts.

mathieu (san francisco)

how big of a tear down and rebuilding job are the Broncos? My feeling is McDaniels left the cupboard is bare. Will they be in the Andrew Luck sweepstakes?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

They started the reconstruction in the draft, but there's still a long way to go. I'd say they are in the early cluster of leaders to have the No. 1 pick. Shoot, they had the No. 2 pick this year, so it would be naive to think that they surely won't be in the same range next year.

Gerald (MO)

It seems like every person who talks about Baldwin mentions his character issues and lack of work ethic, do you think that it has been over blown now?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

Ask me that question in a couple of years.

Andy (Provo, UT)

Which AFC West team will be most adversly affected if the lockout extends right up to the beginning of the season and which team would be most likely to win the division in that scenario?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

I think Denver would be the most affected team because Fox is new to the franchise and they won't get much time to work with Tebow. As for the team that would win the division, well, I'm going that far, but I'd say San Diego would be in good shape because there wasn't much change.

Jeremy (San Diego)

If DHB doesn't show big improvements this year, does Al cut him after the year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:49 PM)

Al usually has patience, but if DHB doesn't make strides in Year 3, his chances of being successful in Oakland would take a hit.

Jonathan (Fresno)

Do you think the Broncos can contend for the division title this season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

Do you??????

Joey (Tucson)

How do you see Shareece Wright making out with the Chargers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

Special teams ealry on.

Tyler (Hamilton, ON)

Can Nate Irving be the answer for denver at ILB next year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

The Broncos plan on making him the starting middle lieabcker right away. There are mixed opinions of him around the league. Some teams think he will be a star, some aren't so sure. Denver had him rated as a first rounder.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Who will be better next year: Jammal Charles or DMC? And Knowshon or Ryan Mathews in the JV competition?

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

This posiiton is next on our division position-by-position rankings.

Trevor (Windsor, CO)

Hi Bill - love the blog. I look forward to reading it each day. What free agent DT's do you see Denver targeting?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

If he's a vailable, I think Denver would like to get a chance at Seattle's Brandon Mebane

JP (SD)

Bill,Is KC and Oakland on their way to taking the AFC West back and are Denver and SD going to stay down for long?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

I think SD, KC and Oak re going to be contenders for the foreseebale future. Denver is on the right track, but it has work to do. Overall, this division continues to improve.

Jeremy (San Diego)

Everyone says the Raiders have a young and talented WR corp they just need a Vet WR to help shape these young guys. Don't you think they can just find a real WR coach to help shape them?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

The problem is where would a vet fit. There's a lot of promising youngsters on this list.

Corey (D.C.)

Are the Raiders expecting anything from Schilens anymore, or has that ship sailed?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

No, I think they will give him another chance. But he must stay healthy at some point.

Ryan (NJ)

With D Thom hurt again, Gaff getting up in age, and the misuse of Royal (they never throw to him), could you see Decker stepping up and becoming a major contributor for Denver?

Bill Williamson
  (2:58 PM)

I think he'll get a chance soon. He has potential.

Chris (Denver, CO)

Dude, Bill ... how could you forget about Floyd Little in the changing the Broncos franchise? He's pretty much the reason why the Broncos are still in Denver! Oops ...

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

Dude, didn't forget him. We only had four choices. Vote for him in the comment section.

Kim Deal (CA)

Bill, what are you thoughts on Hue Jackson? What did/do you hear about him from around the league? Does he have the ability to be one the next really good coaches? I didn't have that feeling with Kiffin, but like with Gruden, I do with Hue.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

He has a good rep as it relates to working with players and developing them. He has a real future, I do believe.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour, folks, talk to you next week.
