What's happening everybody? Let's get the chat rolling ... how is everybody feeling after Game 2?
Yo Nick. Was it just me or did D-Rose seem rather flat last night?
Derrick wasn't nearly as aggressive as usual last night. I think the Heat did a solid job on defense, but I think Derrick would be the first one to tell you he can play a lot better and finish. I did think he looked more tired at the end of the game than usual. He had to expend a lot of energy on defense.
Can we all finally say Carlos Boozer is terrible?
Boozer needs to play better if the Bulls are going to win this series. There's nothing more to really say. Silvy and I discussed this on the air earlier ... I feel like if Boozer doesn't produce more, the Bulls can't win.
Hey Nick, first off, no overreacting here. I expect a tough series between two good teams. My question: How often is Boozer out of position on defense? It seems when he is in the game, easy buckets for the opponent happen on the reg. My vote is to give him the Bogans treatment - 15 minutes tops. Word is bond.
Boozer will play more than 15 minutes -- I don't even think that's a question. The problems he continues to have on defense aren't getting an better. I think his teammates are starting to get even more frustrated with him defensively as the games become more important.
What offensive adjustments can the bulls make? Whats the mood of the team?
The biggest offensive adjustment is that Rose has to learn to better deal with the strong double teams that are coming his way. It wouldn't hurt if the Bulls started making some open shots, too. As for the mood of the team, they seemed fine. I didn't get the sense they were nervous as all -- just made they let a winnable game slip away.
How much blame does Thibs take for keeping in an overmatched and ineffective Kyle Korver? The Heat abused him on the pick and roll the whole fourth quarter.
Thibs is going to leave Korver on the floor for the time being. He's a streak shooter and the Bulls are just hoping he can get hot. As Thibs would tell you, Korver stretches the floor whether he's hitting his shot or not because teams have to account for him on the perimeter. No doubt his defense could be better, though.
Hey Nick what do the Bulls have to do to limit Lebron Jamesand Dwyane Wade from having their great performances like theydid in Game 2? Any thoughts?
Control the paint and don't allow them to drive towards the rim. The Bulls did a great job of this in Game 1 -- not in Game 2.
How big of an impact can Haslem continue to have on this series? He seemed to be the spark last night.
He was huge. The question is can he play the same way over the course of this series since he really hasn't played in several months. If he does, the Bulls are in trouble. As James and Wade said, Haslem was a huge reason the Heat won.
Would you agree that if the Turkish Hammer didnt have to get his chin stiched up the Bulls win? He seemed so dominant on D.
He was very good on defense, but Asik isn't giving the Bulls anything offensively. You can't win if you don't score, even though I know he gave the team a lift.
Hey Nick. Love your laugh. Awesome. Anyway, I want to know why Bulls kept taking so many 3's when it seemed from the start they we're broke from downtown?
Lu, Appreciate it. I think they just figured some would start going down. They need to do a better job of attacking the rim, though. Give Miami credit, they didn't allow Rose to go down the lane with as much freedom last night and that was a big difference.
Nick, why is your chest hair always out when I see you at the games?
That's just style, my man. It works for me.
Nick- What can Bulls do about Lebron's double dribbling?
Solid question. I'm sure Thibs is pointing this out to the league office as we speak.
What's good, Nick? Just wondering what your thoughts are on the D'Wayne Wade/Keith Bogans battle.... I don't understand why Thibs decided to ditch the game plan of keeping Bogans on Wade (which worked like a charm in Game 1). I don't like the idea of leaving Rose on Wade for large chunks of the game. Not that Derrick can't handle him, but we just need him to carry such a large load on offense, we can't afford him to be drained at the end of games like waht happened last night. Agreed?
Agreed. The problem is that Bogans isn't going to give you much offense. It's the catch-22 with the Bulls and has been all year. Do you stick with Bogans for the defense or do you go with Korver and hope he starts shooting well. There isn't a right answer on most nights.
Nick, do you feel that the Bulls are one scorer away from winning the championship. I don't feel they enough to win the championship this year without a reliable second scoring option.
I've been saying the same thing all year. The Bulls are great and are only getting better, but I still think they're a piece away.
NOBODY GIVES US MUCH OFFENSE besides Rose! THIS IS THE PROBLEM. Poor diversity on this club, all defense no offense.
What he said ... at least in Game 2.
Bogans not the best offensively, but he was surely hitting more 3s than Kyle
You and I probably could at the moment, Renato.
Nick, I'm a huge Ronnie Brewer fan. When Korver isn't hitting (like last night) why not leave Brewer in? He can atleast create some offense through his defense and he brings a lot more athleticism than korver.
He does, but he's not the outside threat Korver is. Thibs wants that. The Bulls need that. There's the difference.
I believe nick we shot 44% in game 1 and 34% in game 2. Miami shot 47% both games. Do u think we should b worried about the shooting percentage of the Heat or should we be optimistic due to the fact we split eventhough we shot less than average tha 1st 2 games? Wut do u think
I wouldn't be that worried, because the Bulls defense was dominant in the second half of Game 1. The fear is that the Bulls just can't buy a basket. They've got to find a way to shoot better.
Nick,I have to believe GarPax knew what they were getting in Boozer and just wanted to save face after being shut out of the best free agent class in history. My question is if your team identity is going to be based on defense under Thibs why would you overpay for an undersized 4 that"s never played defense anywhere. So much for executive of the year.
You can bank on both Gar and Pax being asked this question about a bagillion times over the next 3-4 years.
With the size advantage, why isn't Thibs using more of a "pound you in the paint" approach?
I think he's trying, but when your best post option on offense is struggling the way Boozer is, you've got problems. The key for the Bulls in Game 3 is getting Derrick to the rim a lot more.
Boozer plays defense like all my players
For the sixth week in a row, this chat is being absolutely dominated by questions about Boozer. Does he have any supporters out there at this point?
Nick, do you think that we will ever see Noah and Asik on the floor at the same time?
Yes, I do. But not until next year.
Nick if you don't mention my name at least once in this chat I will end your career. Dare me.
Oprah, everyone knows you're the most powerful person in Chicago.
Boozer is getting to much criticism this series, he's played well in first halves and gets benched (out of his control) for most of the second half. Frankly rose's awful game cost them game 2, that's obvious, korver didn't do them any favors either.
Agreed that maybe Boozer is probably getting too much blame. And I agree that was probably Rose's worst game of the postseason. Korver was bad as well. The problem is that Boozer has been under-performing the entire postseason and I think people are just fed up with it.
Nick, I'm a HUGE fan of Booz! I went from everyone wanting to give and my "unreasonable" contract away for pennies on the dollar to being the glue of the team and one of the most underated players in the league in just one year of having him on the team!!!
A Duke guy supporting another Duke guy. There you go.
Does Kyle Korver have a back tattoo? I thought I saw some ink creeping out near the back of his jersey last night.
A side tattoo -- of a bald eagle.
nick, when will see kurt thomas play?
Tom is sticking with Asik. I still think we'll see Thomas at some point, though.
Nick, I really don't understand what Thibodeau did last night. If he wanted more offense and a better chance to win the game, he should have gone back to Boozer and not to the cold-shooting Korver. By playing Korver, that forced Rose to cover Dwade and made him tired just chasing him around, the opposite of what happened in game 1 where it was the other way around. Until Korver gets hot again, I don't think we should continue to play him.
I see what you're saying, but Korver is staying on the floor -- for now. Thibs wants to space the floor out and he knows he needs Korver to do it.
Two words: Rasual Butler.
Two words: Not happening.
with the way Gibson has been playing I see a lot of teams inquiring about him in the offseason. Do you see the Bulls trading him away? I d hate to see it but we are stuck with Booz for a while
The Bulls do not want to trade Gibson, but they would depending on what they got back for him.
Is it just me, or is it time for Taj Gibson to take over boozer's spot? Would there be an uproar? At times Gibson is better offensively, but undoubtedly better defensively....your take?
It's official. We set a new record for Boozer questions today. Thibs isn't putting Boozer on the bench so forget that idea for now.
I am out of here guys. A good chat as usual. Thanks for all the questions. Talk to you at the games this week.
