Good morning gang. We've got another 60 minutes of fantasy chattage ahead. Scotty or Lauren? Who cares! Second cup of coffee in hand. Who's up first?
Our Commissioner traded Gonzalez for Verlander 3 weeks ago and now is trading Verlander back to the same owner for Gonzo - your opinion?
Three weeks is plenty of time to have passed for second thoughts... I agree it's close to smelling bad, but I'd let it go...
In last week's chat you mentioned that your low Holliday ranking was due to his high BABIP. You do realize that he hits over .300 every year, right?! Please use BABIP responsibly.
The BABIP comment was to indicate that the .360 BA was unsustainable... .300 is certainly a near-lock for Holliday. That still only leaves him at No. 40.
Pick one for my left field spot....Morrison, Gordon, or Brantley?
I'm going with LoMo.
Safe to assume Chacin gets a 2nd start this week with the injury to DeLa Rosa
Yes, it looks like Chacin will pitch on Sunday.
Lohse or Jair, who are you higher on from here on out?
Certainly if K's are in the mix, you have to like Jair better.
Should we be worried about Soria?
Somebody didn't read my article on Monday... http://sports.espn.go.com/fantasy/baseball/flb/story?id=6578990
Ricky Romero: Can he be officially trusted as a legit ace? Who are comparable pitchers to him right now?
I'd say he's a No. 3 in the YoGa, CJ Wilson neighborhood.
What SP trade value would Cano bring ?
I'd say he should be worth a No. 2 SP.
Trading Ogando for Weeks or Prado...your thoughts??
Weeks over Prado for me... I think Ogando is going to be fine until the ASB, but after that, it will depend on how close the race in the AL West is.
Dan Uggla: Is he also a guy who may not turn it around? I did read your post from yesterday. He wasn't mentioned.
I could have listed a lot of people... I went with the quartet who got the most ??? in my rankings. I don't think too many people were shocked at the lack of confidence in Uggla.
Can you expand on your comment about Cano only being worth a #2 starter? Are you saying that a hitter chosen in the late first round should only return a pitcher ranked in the 11-20 range, someone who likely was chosen five rounds after Cano?
For one, who cares where someone was drafted at this point? If I got Bautista in Round 5, I don't treat him as such... he's the No. 1 overall guy right now. From a sheer value (take names out of it) standpoint, Cano's value is on par with SP No. 11-15.
In my league, trade for DLR was accepted, then the injury happened. Obviously no foul play here. Do we as a league let the trade go through or veto?
If the person who traded away DLR wants to be a *good guy* and let the deal die, then that's fine. And he is under no obligation to do so... he may just want to earn some capital in the league. Otherwise, you let it go through, since it was done in good faith.
AJ I don't know what type of leagues you play in but in any league I've ever played Cano would be traded for 2 top 15 arms.
I am giving you the *actual* fantasy value. Just the math. Consider it like that "NFL draft pick value list". In the end, you can only get what the owners in your league consider to be appropriate value - but that's going to be different in nearly every league b/c there is no "absolute right answer."
AJ, do you think it cheap to load a standard H2H points team up with all pitchers?
If you're saying you're not starting any hitters in a league where you're supposed to have a legal lineup that includes them, then yes, you are doing something shady.
Your opinion is that current stats = fantasy value. And that is just completely false.
Current stats are a part of fantasy value - but only a part. Underlying skill set is also a part, as well as track record. I always incorporate all of those factors into my valuations.
Does it entertain you that people disagree with you so often, and yet they continue to come to these chats and take your advice? Or they take it when its what they want to hear.....
I have no problem with disagreement and debate. We may disagree on how valuable Cano is, and what he's worth going forward. It's an opinion-based game we play. However, to say that you are right and I am wrong is comical. I am merely giving my opinion, and if you don't like what I say, then don't act on the advice.
So if you were redrafting today you would take Cole Hamels around the same pick as Cano? Would would not, and that is why I am not buying for valuation of Cano for a 11-15 SP.
I would in fact Hamels ahead of Cano if a redraft was being held today. But then again, he's my No.6 pitcher right now...
So let me get this straight, in your rerankings you had Cano #5 overall. You only ranked one pitcher over him. Hamels was your #11 SP. You'd trade Hamels for Cano or suggest somebody do so?
This is actually a very good point, Eli. Rankings and value of players changes on a daily basis as more stats come in. Those re-ranks are already outdated... they're good ballpark figures, but if you don't constantly keep these evaluations fluid, you're doing yourself a disservice.
Is this a Cano only chat? Does Dunn's HR last night signal the fact that he is snapping out of his funk?
One game does not a slump break, but certainly I'd rather that he had one than not.
Having some computer hangups... bear with me...
Is Morse one of those players who you should pick up and ride the streak, then drop?
I think Morse has already shown himself to be a streaky type. Be sure to recycle when through with him...
Should I view D. Hudson better than W. Rodriguez? I like his ceiling?
Do you? I do as well... Maybe we should start calling it the Hudson (river) Line?
but you still wouldn't play Dunn today vs a lefty correct?
I don't usually like to make game-by-game changes, but the 0-for-2011 speaks for itself.
If I tried to trade Cory Hart after his two game masterpiece for Roy Halladay I would, and should, be laughed at by the entire league. I think your "value right now" is a disservice to the whole idea of fantasy baseball, in that you try to predict overall outcomes, not look at recent history and think that is entirely representative. So with that in mind, you really think Cano, for the rest of the season, is worth Cole Hamels?
Hold the phone, Garrett. Now you're putting words in my mouth. Nobody said Hart's value right now is Halladay... Yes, it went up with a 3-HR day... but it doesn't mean he's a top-10 hitter.
Please settle this Cano thing. What happened in the past week to drop him from your #5 overall to the 40-50 range? Cano has hit 7/28 with 6 R and 7 RBI over the past week. Do you think his 12 game HR drought is a sign of some bigger problem?
Apples and oranges. Value is always relative... Cano is currently, in my rankings, which include a portion of season-to-date stats, the No. 28 hitter. I am not saying I would trade Cano. However, what IS his value compared to other players? That's the question at hand.
Another example of completely ignoring the question...
Or simply antoher example of no answer ever being satisfying to some... moving on...
Thoughts on Dodger closer situation?
I think it's looking more and more likely that Broxton gets it back when healthy. I think DLR might be the fave of the ones who are currently healthy.
Ichiro is hurting me right now...what is fair trade for him straight up? I'm lookin to get a Closer for him.
Dare I answer this question? I don't value closers nearly as much as hitters, so pretty much a trade for a closer is one of need, and you get the best deal you can get.
Who is DLR?
Rubby De La Rosa
I'd trade him... but not an outright cut.
my google calendar is not syncing with my smart phone. can you help me out.
Wow, did you ever come to the wrong chat!
Hey AJ! so yea I'm obviously a monster but should I be started with confidence at home against new york this week?
I think you've performed well enough to be in the lineup regardless, yes.
With the much talked-about changes in pitching landscape the past few years (Tristan has a great article about it), does that increase or decrease the value of 'good' but not 'great' SP (think, outside the top 20)?
As long as the categories are weighted equally, you're still going to need to have the arms. I think there's not a ton of difference between say, SP 20 and SP 40, but all that does is increase the need to cut a guy who isn't getting it done.
You giving up on Morneau yet?
Giving up might not be accurate, but would I be benching him for a long time to come... probably so.
About that Wandy line - in 10 team league, is Carpenter approaching dropable status?
I don't think Carpenter has even been in sight of that line since Opening Day.
How much longer before Andrew Bailey is back? Fuentes has been KILLING me!!
I don't think you'll have that problem anymore... Balfour should be getting a few save chances.
Colon or Norris pick up?
Got to go with the Norris upside...
can you please just tell me that Tulo will be fine
I can tell you, but I'm not sure you'll believe me. #ConfirmationBias
That's all we've got for today... Cano Cano Cano... until Friday, there's the Twitter. Until then, good luck and may the odds be EVER in your favor.
