Chat with David Newton

David Newton
  (2:00 PM)

Welcome from the steamy hot confines of Charlotte, N.C. Did I mention is is hot? Lots of hot topics to discuss as well. Fire away.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Is there a Fee to Qualify for a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race?

David Newton
  (2:00 PM)

Each team has to play a fee to enter a race if that is what you are asking. Any particular reason for asking? And how are you always first up?

DW (Dale Jr's house)

I know that Burton was spun but I really thought Nascar was gonna finally give Jr that win, I know he jumped the restart also but c'mon, give it to him!

David Newton
  (2:02 PM)

I watched the restart several times. He didn't pass the leader until they were past the start-finish line. As for the caution, when I first saw that happening I was sure caution would fly. As it turned out NASCAR made the right call in being patient without putting anybody at risk. And I don't think Junior wants to be given anything.

Andrew (Kettering Ohio)

88 started ahead of the 4 on the final restart (by inches but still an infraction) and the crash on the restart didn't bring out the caution, can anyone argue that Nascar is pulling for 88? I have seen hot dog wrappers and quarters spins bring out a yellow but not a huge wad up and Brad K dumping debris?

David Newton
  (2:03 PM)

As I said before, it all looked legit to me. If NASCAR had thrown the caution everybody would be complaining about that. It's really a no-win situaiton for the governing body, but in this case I agree with the call.

Dustin (Knoxville)

David, Last week I asked if using restrictor plates on the mile and a half tracks was a good idea. And you responded with a one sentence statement that the speeds were not high enough at those tracks. The purpose of that question was would using the plates make the races at these usually boring tracks, make them more exciting for the fans...Thanks!

David Newton
  (2:04 PM)

The plates aren't used for that purpose. They are used to keep the speeds under control. There has been talk of using them at Atlanta before, but only because the speeds got too high. And are you suggesting we haven't seen exciting races. People should go back and look at the day when 1 or 2 cars finished on the lead lap.

Joey (SC)

After that devestating finish for Jr., he was actually upbeat about his finish. Do you believe he will win one in the coming races? He is having an excellent season and keeps getting closer and closer.

David Newton
  (2:05 PM)

He was upbeat, which was a good sign. Considering Charlotte hasn't been one of his better tracks and he's had a top 10 car almost everywhere he's been it wouldn't surprise me to see him win soon.

Brad (Crossville, TN)

What is your take on the no caution call at the end of the 600? Does NASCAR really need Dale Jr. to win bad enough to risk the drivers safety? Any other time in the race and there would have been a caution the second that wreck took place, but they thought Jr. would have a win and it would put more fans in the stands if he got it.

David Newton
  (2:06 PM)

As I said at the beginning of the chat, the call at the end was the right one. Sure a win by Junior would be good for the sport, but NASCAR isn't trying to fix it for him. Had Biffle not run out of gas I doubt anybody was going to catch him.

jesse (iowa)

Newt! who ya got at kansas? i got tony stewart. kansas is similar to vegas and he should have won vegas if it wouldnt have been for the pit stop mistake. your thoughts?

David Newton
  (2:07 PM)

Good pick. He likes that track. I'm going to go with Biffle, though. Just a gut feeling.

jesse (iowa)

whats your favorite kansas moments ever?

David Newton
  (2:07 PM)

That bonzai move by Edwards against JJ was pretty cool.

jesse (iowa)

what was your take on wheather nascar not throwing the yellow when burton spun on that final restart? i agree with their call. if the yellow flies the next restart is a total disaster with everyone running outta gas. you thoughts?

David Newton
  (2:08 PM)

I'll keep repeating it as long as you guys ask, but I agree with how it went down.

Scott M. (Iowa)

What penalty do you think JGR should put on Rowdy?

David Newton
  (2:08 PM)

I know they've talked to Doug Herbert and his BRAKES program. I think being a spokesman for that would suffice, although I'd like to see his sponsor perhaps fine him to send an even stronger message.

Scott M. (Iowa)

Who is your dark horse (not Edwards and Johnson) to win the chase this year?

David Newton
  (2:09 PM)

Matt Kenseth.

Bob T. (Winston-Salem, NC)

Isn't Marcos Ambrose a legitimate threat to make the Chase? He's 17th in points, running well lately, and could get one or both road race wins, and perhaps a win on an oval.

David Newton
  (2:09 PM)

He may need to win both road course races. I don't consider him a big threat at this point.

Bob T. (Winston-Salem, NC)

What will Jack Roush do with Bayne and Stenhouse next year? Keep 'em in Nationwide or find Cup rides for both?

David Newton
  (2:10 PM)

Bayne wants to stay with the Wood Brothers and run NW with Roush, but if Edwards were to leave or the 6 were to become available I can see either one of those guys stepping in. Stenhouse's 11th in Cup debut was impressive.

Matthew (Columbia, NJ)

David, how much credit do you give the 16 team for overcoming early problems to leading the race, almost running out of gas, and still finishing in the top 15?

David Newton
  (2:11 PM)

And don't forget Biffle was nearly so sick he was almost ready to climb out of the car. I can't see that team staying out of Victory Lane too much longer.

Rick ma [via mobile]

David did egr reduce there budget or something? They lost there speed. I still think the 42 can make the chase, with the tracks coming up. Am i crazy?

David Newton
  (2:12 PM)

I don't think they've lost their speed as much as the Ford's and others have picked up. But it's not so much horsepower. It's the new nose. The Ford's are able to close up the front opening more because the cooling system in the new engine is superior. It creates more downforce.

James (Indy)

Hi David, with the resurgence of Indy car racing do you see Jimmie or Edwards or Kyle moving over to Indy car racing?

David Newton
  (2:13 PM)

Not really, and as thrilling as the 100th running of the Indy 500 was, I'm not ready to call it a full resurgence.

Larry (MI)

Newt, Terry didn't think that the 27 pushing the 31 and the 29 under caution was a big deal. I realize that it is legal to push another car but there is also a rule that says you must maintain your position under caution. the 27 obviously did not maintain his position under caution, he was 2 laps down and was not running with the lead group. Did Nascar just miss this? Curious to see what your view is on this.

David Newton
  (2:14 PM)

It's not a big deal as long as it's not done coming to the restart. NASCAR was well aware of what was going on and said all was OK.

Nick Rolando (Orlando)

David, thoughts on Sadler suing the new and improved RPM? To me it looks bad b/c the team is having success w/o him and quite frankly I don't think he's a great driver. Also, you think it'll be awhile until some silly season stuff comes out?

David Newton
  (2:14 PM)

Hey, Sadler is having success as well, leading the Nationwide Series. I don't blame him for suing. They owe him money and he feels he should be paid.

Tyler (Minnesota)

In last weekends Nationwide race and in past Nationwide races Kasey Kahne has run for Turner Motorsports, which race Chevrolets. Does Kasey have to get an ok from Red Bull to race anything other than a Toyota? or is it just ok because he will be racing for Hendrick next year and driving Chevys anyway? Thanks.

David Newton
  (2:15 PM)

I'm sure he has to get permission from Red Bull, and his deal to drive with HMS next year has to figure in. I don't see it as a big deal.

Chris (Crestview, FL)

Great article today! Do you think her and Kelley Earnhardt are paving the way for more women to get involved in the sport from the business side of things?

David Newton
  (2:16 PM)

Thanks, and it's good to see them making an impact in what traditionally has been a man's world. Hopefully, the trend continues. I asked DeLana if she would be accepted as an owner if KHI were to ever run Cup, and she believes she would be.

Chris (Crestview, FL)

Is Junior back? Or does he have to win a race or two before we can officially say he is?

David Newton
  (2:17 PM)

He's been in the top 10 early in the season in recent years. The true test will be a win and keeping composure through the summer, but I'd have to say he's pretty darn close to back.

Chris (Crestview, FL)

Does Junior ever look to Harvicks 115 race winless streak that he went through and use it as something to motivate himself as to what can happen if he snaps his streak?

David Newton
  (2:18 PM)

I haven't asked, but that is a good example of how good drivers can fall into slumps without it being the end of the world. Remember, Harvick has won only 17 Cup races and nobody is saying he's overrated like Jr.

Steve (MA)

Who wears the fire suit in your family?

David Newton
  (2:19 PM)

No question, the lady of the house.

Tommy (me)

How can indycar survive with only one relevant race per year? I don't think the average person knows more than 1 driver's name.

David Newton
  (2:19 PM)

I tend to agree, although I'd say most know two or three.

Tek (Madison)

What do you think about RPM's strong performance? AJ did not seem very confident about their intermediate track performance going into Charlotte, but he left pretty upbeat. Think the #43 STP can finish strong at the STP 400 this weekend?

David Newton
  (2:20 PM)

I've said many times I hope to be at the track when the 43 returns to Victory Lane. Won't be at Kansas so maybe he can wait a week.

Fred ( Al ) [via mobile]

What's the latest on Edwards & Jgr talks. & Mark Martin latest?

David Newton
  (2:21 PM)

Pretty quiet. The talks are ongoing and Roush hopes to get something done sooner rather than later, knowing the longer things drag on the more likely Carl is to leave. Martin will have options. Possibly Red Bull.

Bill (Omaha)

Hi David, how come when reporting about Kyle Busch's speeding ticket you failed to mention that it was Hendrick Lexus that loaned the LFA to Kyle?

David Newton
  (2:21 PM)

Didn't matter. Hendrick didn't tell him to go 128 mph in a 45.

Tracy (CT)

I was in NC for the past week! Had a blast. Took in my first WOO race at the dirt track. I wish they would show more dirt races on TV! I had more fun there than at the 600!

David Newton
  (2:22 PM)

That track is a blast. Did you find any of our great restaurants to enjoy?

Chad (Illinois)

David - could you please explain to people why it was ok for Paul Menard to push the 29 & 31, but Jeff Gordon could not move up in the field to push the 88. Apparently a lot of people are confused by this rule.

David Newton
  (2:23 PM)

Unless I missed something that's where the cars were in the field. They didn't leapfrog 10 cars do do that.

Chad (Illinois)

What do you think of the new qualifying rules for the NW/Truck series'? Does NASCAR lose credibility points with the "casual fans" with mid-season rule changes?

David Newton
  (2:24 PM)

I'm not sure any qualifying rule is going to make qualifying exciting. As for mid-season changes, it's happened before and will happen again . . . in all sports. Didn't the NFL change the way it ruled on helmet to helmet hits mid-season?

Kyle (Las Vegas)

I seem to have lost Kimi's number...can you send it to me so I can get paid the rest of the money he owes me?

David Newton
  (2:24 PM)

Kimi and his people say they are paid up through the races they have run. If I were you I'd look for a new driver. I believe he'll look for a NW and Cup ride now.

Luis Rodriguez (Springfield)

Hi, David Newton nice to meet you

David Newton
  (2:25 PM)

Same here. How's the weather there?

Jarrod (NH)

Do you think NASCAR should relax the 4 car limit? I mean we have quite a few Start and Parkers now and if they wanted to discourage that, this may be the right avenue...

David Newton
  (2:27 PM)

Nah, I'm OK with the way it is. If they relax the rule we may end up with four Super Power teams _ moreso than we already do _ and run the single-car owner out of business.

becka (virginia)

when the drivers introduce themselves at bristol why can't the tv audince see that

David Newton
  (2:28 PM)

Didn't know they couldn't, but driver intros traditionally are not seen on TV. Maybe they are encouraging you to buy a ticket.

Billy (Reno)

People cry if NASCAR throws the yellow....they should let them race. People cry if NASCAR keeps it green...there should have been a yellow. Are these people ever happy? As for the Jr thing, well if NASCAR wanted him to win then he would have done so between the last 105 races. They wouldnt let it go this long. Or they would have thrown the yellow after the whitte! LMAO at these people that really think there is a way to fix the race! LAst thing, its not like this was Bristol. There was time for the track o clear!

David Newton
  (2:28 PM)

Agreed.

Mark (Iowa)

NASCAR was in a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation Sunday. I personally think they got it right. Do you think the the conspiracy theorists would say NASCAR gave the win to Junior if they threw the caution?

David Newton
  (2:29 PM)

Would they even be thinking this if anybody else but Junior had been running up front? Thanks

Susan (Wisc.)

Did Mark Martin change his tune of blaming Travis for the wreck after seeing the video proving that it was Martin that turned down into Travis?

David Newton
  (2:30 PM)

I don't think Mark really knew what happened it all happened so fast from what I heard him say.

Adam (Vermont)

Will Joey Logano ever live up to the hype the media has put upon him? I know he's young, but other than a decent stetech last season, I'm yet to see anything I like in him.

David Newton
  (2:31 PM)

Honestly, I believe he'll have his day. He's had decent cars this year but a run of rough luck. One day it'll all come together. He's too talented with too many talented people around him.

Jeff (TN)

How much longer are us Mark Martin fans going to be left wondering where he'll be racing?

David Newton
  (2:31 PM)

Probably into the fall. He's in no hurry to make a decision and he doesn't have to be.

Brian (VA) [via mobile]

How important is it that Jr is having his best runs of the season at phoenix, martinsville, texas, talladega, dover, and charlotte which all happen to be tracks in the chase

David Newton
  (2:32 PM)

Good point. Are you making a case for him running for the title?

Lane (OK)

What penalty do you think HMS should put on Knaus for dropping the F bomb live on television?

David Newton
  (2:32 PM)

Nothing. It was Fox's mistake. Chad wasn't doing a live interview. Fox broadcast a radio conversation. He had no idea he was on the air.

Art (Modesto, CA)

Why are the Kyle Busch haters obsessed with the guy? If they don't like him, why don't they just ignore him?

David Newton
  (2:33 PM)

Everybody loves to hate somebody. As I wrote last week, Kyle is a lightning rod.

Jeremy (Port Angeles, WA)

Do you think Danica will go to nascar full time next year because it is more of a oval base series then the indycar series is?

David Newton
  (2:33 PM)

I do. She'll probably drive a JRM Nationwide car fulltime and part-time for SHR in a Cup car. Maybe run the Indy500 as well.

Matt (TN)

Do you see Carl Edwards leaving RFR? The Fords are just to inconsistent from year to year, he'd look great at SHR.

David Newton
  (2:34 PM)

If he leaves I believe it will be at JGR,but right now I'd say it's 70-30 he stays.

Adam (Vermont)

Hamlin's closing in on the Top 10 in points, assuming he can't find victory lane, can he make the chase?

David Newton
  (2:35 PM)

If he doesn't he'll be whatever is the opposite of comeback story of the year. LIke as in the biggest disappointment.

Jeff (Georgia)

David, with all the Earnhardt talk, Kahne's run gets kind of overlooked. If Johnson doesn't blow up, Kahne wins the race. Thoughts?? Thanks

David Newton
  (2:36 PM)

Kahne still runs out of gas. He saved more being under the caution. If JJ doesn't blow up no telling who wins.

Steve (IL)

Do you expect crew chief changes on 24, 31, 5, 14, 39 and 16 due to their poor performance relative to teammates?

David Newton
  (2:36 PM)

No, No, No, No and No.

Chris (Arizona)

Finally a good finish for Kurt Busch.

David Newton
  (2:37 PM)

Yep. Think they are on to a few things after several weeks of meetings and talks.

Greg (WI)

The 17 looks to be pretty stout this season. Should Harvick, Edwards, Jimmie, Kyle and whoever else was a preseason fav be worried about another dog in the fight for the cup?

David Newton
  (2:37 PM)

If they don't then they're not paying attention.

TG (PA)

I read that on Race Hub that Jimmy Spenser said some derogatory comments about Nascar, the caution and Junior. What exactly did he say?

David Newton
  (2:38 PM)

I missed it. Was probably watching an ESPN show.

Jeff (TN)

With Pastrana-Waltrip Racing only going to race 8 more races, and them saying Pastrana will race full time for them in 2012 it doesn't sound like Ryan Truex is in the future plans. What happens to Ryan and where do you think he'll end up?

David Newton
  (2:38 PM)

You don't perform and bring sponsorship you usually lose a ride. Think it's pretty simple. Pastrana has a following.

dave (PA)

Im almost positive Danica will be running for stewart/haas next year. Whats your thoughts on that

David Newton
  (2:39 PM)

Parttime in Cup. I'm almost positive her fulltime ride will be with JR Motorsports in Nationwide.

Ron (OH)

Tell the fans complaining about the lack of caution flag that since it happened on a restart that the field was bunched up and there was time for NASCAR to see if the wrecked cars were out of the way before the field came back to turn 1. During the middle of a race the cars are spread out and they need to throw a caution flag immediately because cars would be coming up on the wreck quickly.

David Newton
  (2:40 PM)

Think you just told them.

Matt (Rochester)

There are several times that NASCAR has not thrown the caution at the end of the race to ensure a green flag finish. It has happened often and Junior was laps down. There are just simply people out there that will look for anything to drag Junior down. Get a life! I do not come on here and bash KB, even though I would like to. How about we concentrate on the driver we like and stop trying to drag down the driver who is 4th in points. Ahh, ahead of KB by the way.

David Newton
  (2:40 PM)

Well said.

Larry (MI)

I am a Jr fan and I can't believe the turn around. 4th in points and the car is competitive at the end of races. Total turn around. I can't wait for a return to victory lane.

David Newton
  (2:41 PM)

You're not alone I'm sure. And he is running well, but more important he has confidence.

Jacob (Wellston, Ok)

Mr. Newton. Am I the only one who has support for Kansas having 2 races? Kansas is nothing like Atlanta, Texas, or charlotte. Has had good finishes, ie Edwards and Johnson, and has had good turn outs. Besides with the summer heat, the races should be completely different

David Newton
  (2:42 PM)

No, Carl Edwards and Clint Bowyer are behind you. I just don't think because they built a casino hotel next to the track they should get a second race. I still miss two races at Darlington. And at least one at Rockingham.

Chris (Crestview, FL)

I love how all these people who are saying Junior jumped the restart are conveniently forgetting that Kahne ran out of gas when the green flag dropped. If NASCAR was fixing things for Junior would he have a 105 race winless streak? THINK PEOPLE!

David Newton
  (2:43 PM)

Yes, think.

Jeff (Georgia)

David, what are you hearing about Go Daddy's sponsorship for next year? Will they sponsor Danica and Kahne? Thanks

David Newton
  (2:43 PM)

They definitely will be behind Kahne. I am hearing there's a possibility, not saying a great one, that if GoDaddy gets out of IndyCar that they could put some of that money into Kahne's Cup car.

Jolt (KCMO)

What darkhorse, underrated driver will be the next to win their first race?

David Newton
  (2:44 PM)

Menard or Allmendinger.

Iron Head Forever (Long Island, NY)

Nothing against DeLana Harvick but how come I never see Rick Hendrick, Jack Roush, Roger Penske, etc wearing fire suits?

David Newton
  (2:44 PM)

Please, be thankful.

Nikki (Orlando)

Have you heard if Dale Jr has signed that extenstion yet and who are his sponsors going to be?

David Newton
  (2:45 PM)

Nothing signed yet, but wouldn't surprise me if they made the announcement at Daytona. Pretty sure Amp is back. Not sure on National Guard.

Larry (MI)

So if I am understanding your answer about cars pushing other cars, they do not have to maintain their position under caution until they are coming to get the green? Why don't cars pass each other trying to get onto pit road than?

David Newton
  (2:45 PM)

Because it's not allowed on pit road. And those cars weren't passing each other. They were just pushing.

Matt (Rochester)

If NASCAR was going to fix it then they would have thrown the caution just after the white waved over the 88. They did not, proving that they were just trying to ensure a green flag checkered flag. You all are a bunch of whiny little babies. My 4 month old whines less!

David Newton
  (2:46 PM)

Yeah, I kept waiting for the white flag caution. Glad they let it go all the way.

Nikki (Orlando)

What have you heard about Danica coming to NASCAR fulltime in 2012 is she going to be with JR Motorsports or a different team?

David Newton
  (2:46 PM)

JR in Nationwide.

kevin (new jersey)

Shouldn't there have been a penalty of either Harvick, Burton, Menard of all 3 when they were forming that 3 car push. Under caution you have to hold your position, and I know they werent like that when the caution came out, and btw I haven't heard Harvick thank Menard once.

David Newton
  (2:47 PM)

Carl Edwards pushes the back of the pace car from time to time and nobody complains. NASCAR said it was legal.

Matt (Rochester)

Newt last I checked they just run for 5 hours, 600 miles, in the heat. Junior was right there. He is back and will win very shortly. And all the whiners will have some excuse for how NASCAR fixed it. Oh and Junior has more wins than Harvick, all you haters!

David Newton
  (2:47 PM)

You guys are making more statements than questions for me to answer. OK with me, though.

Larry (IL)

is it funny now that the 24 and 5 are in the same shop together that people including the media are starting to question the split shop method at HMS when you got the 88 and 48 running better than the other 2 even though jeff has a win. Before it was Jrs fault now what is it.

David Newton
  (2:48 PM)

It's hard to question the owner of 10 championships. I'm just saying.

Griffin (Delaware)

Danica is hot to look at but she does not have the talent to the competitive in NASCAR 1 win in 13 years in Indy...your thoughts

David Newton
  (2:49 PM)

Too early to judge. In three tracks she visited for the second time this year she showed an average improvement of like 22.2 spots. She was fourth at Vegas. You never know.

Dick longhorn (Colorado)

how about the indi. 500

David Newton
  (2:50 PM)

Indy was exciting. Now we're back to the rest of the season that few get excited about.

kevin (new jersey)

why does delana wear a fir suit for safety reasons, what the hell can happen to her up in the pit box

David Newton
  (2:51 PM)

She made the decision back when the HANS and other safety issues were at the forefront. She decided to set an example, plus with everyone else on the pit box, crew chief and crew guys, she decided it made sense for her to wear one, too. What if there were a fire?

Greg (South Bend, IN.)

Hey David, What happened to the 48's motor? Can't remember the last time I saw a HMS engine blow. Are they concerned or was it a one time deal?

David Newton
  (2:51 PM)

Haven't heard specifics other than it blew. It was a hot night, 600 miles. It happens.

Taylor (VA)

Newt, I'm starting to hear rumblings about Go Daddy as a sponsor for Kahne next year...What are your thoughts?

David Newton
  (2:51 PM)

Read what I said earlier. It's a possibility.

Nick Rolando (Orlando)

I think Ambrose might be a bigger threat than you think David. He seems to be finding his groove. His performance is better than where he is in points compared to a guy like Kurt Busch who's points pos. is based on strategy and luck more so. Also, I think Stenhouse and/or Bayne could be over at RPM, they're stuff is pretty solid right now.

David Newton
  (2:52 PM)

I'm still not convinced on Ambrose, but I could see Roush farming out Stenhouse to RPM next year.

kevin (new jersey)

dave the rcr cars were not in that order, on tv i saw burton behind menard when he was pushing harvick and then the next shot had burton in the middle so they leap frogged some cars to do this

David Newton
  (2:53 PM)

I'd have to go back and look at it again, but I asked NASCAR and they said all was cool with what happened.

Rob F (Hoboken, NJ)

While it's probably too early to tell, has the 24, and perhaps the entire Hendrick org, turned a corner with their mile and a half program? They all seemed to be running pretty good on Sunday. Also, are there any new engines like the F9 in development at Chevy or Toyota? It seems the F9 is the engine to have at this point.

David Newton
  (2:54 PM)

It's not so much the Ford engine as it is the cooling system that allows the teams to run a smaller hole on the nose and create more downforce.

Larry (MI)

The 27 was not behind the 29 and 31 when the caution came out. I think that is where the confusion is coming.

David Newton
  (2:54 PM)

Perhaps they adjusted because they came out wrong. I really don't have a better answer to this one.

Parker (Tallahassee, FL)

any rumors on the new sponser for the KK 5 car next year

David Newton
  (2:54 PM)

Have mentioned GoDaddy a few times today.

Den (NJ )

I was watching the race on Sunday and noticed the #43 front nose was taped different than the rest of the FORDS in the field. Is there any reason why? It looked like the whole front area was taped off for more downforce. Could they have been trying something new with the front nose on the Fords?

David Newton
  (2:55 PM)

As I've been saying, the new Ford engine's cooling system allows for more tape to create that downforce. The non-Ford owners are working to find a way to equalize that.

Matt (Rochester)

How about make a prediction Newt. Who you got in the chase?

David Newton
  (2:57 PM)

JJ, Edwards, Kyle Busch, Earnhardt, Harvick, Hamlin, Kenseth, Gordon, Bowyer, Kurt Busch, Mark Martin and Tony Stewart.

Chris (Crestview, FL)

I love how everyone is forgetting that Kahne ran out of fuel when the green flag waved, how convenient, lol. How can Junior jump the restart when the other car is dead in the water? Whats he supposed to do, turn his car off and coast along until Kahnes car gets refueled? If NASCAR was rigged for Junior would he really have a 105 race winless streak? People need to use commen sense, their blind hatred for Junior makes them look ignorant...

David Newton
  (2:57 PM)

Think we already have addressed this.

Steve (IL)

During Indy drivers intros Danica got booed like she was Jimmie or Harvick so if Indy fans don't like her what makes people think she will be popular in NASCAR?

David Newton
  (2:58 PM)

Not about being liked. About being followed. Like I watch the NBA playoffs wanting to see the Heat get beat, which doesn't seem likely at the moment.

Lee (atlanta)

newt, i sent a post saying how much i admired Delana about a year ago. glad to see an article from you regarding how well she's doing.

David Newton
  (2:58 PM)

Thanks. Smart lady.

Dan (GA)

From a racing perspective only, does Danica Patrick DESERVE to not only get a Cup ride, but demand top equipment?

David Newton
  (2:59 PM)

She wants to continue to enter the sport gradually, which I think it smart. A full year in Nationwide will be good for her.

Adam (Vermont)

David, how frequently do you travel to the races? Secondly, do you ever try to go to local tracks on Thurs/Fri night if you are there to watch more racing?
