Chat with Bill WIlliamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:00 PM)

Hi everyone, let's get rolling.

Henry Workman (Hawaii)

Hey bill,I was just wondering how many years you think champ bailey has left as a starting corner in the league, and do you think the broncos would be accepting to him switching to safety to play a few more years? I figure his mental smarts for the game and knowing what to do and where to be would help him as a possible free safety not to mention that he is a pretty solid tackler. Thanks!Henry

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

I think Bailey will start at cornerback for at least two years. Then, it could be revisted. Bailey has said he could see himself ending his career at safety. He's a smart guy. I could see him having no problem making the switch, which could extend his career.

Tim (SLC)

With Darrius Heyward-Bey entering his third season in Oakland, is he on the hot-seat and what are your expectations from him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

He has to make strides, no doubt. The thing that worries me about DHB is he has played a lot of NFL games with little results. This is a critical year for him.

Amy (saint joseph mo)

Do you think the chiefs could make a move for a big big play maker at wide receiver and let Baldwin be a third string or do you think the chiefs will make a move for another running back because Thomas Jones is getting very old?

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I think the Chiefs want Baldwin to be that big playmaker. I think Jones has one year left in the tank.

Woody (Jefferson City)

What do you see the Chiefs doing for starters on the interior of their O-line? Waters, Lilja, Weigmann, Asamoah and now Hudson. You would think that they didn't use those high recent draft picks to have the guys ride the pine!

Bill Williamson
  (2:07 PM)

I think there will be competition, but they also like their vets for the short term. The youngsters were drafted with the long-term in mind.

Chioke Hassan (Baltimore,Md)

Dear BillCould you see the Broncos going back to the John Elway uniforms?

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

They are planning to use their orange jerseys as their priamry home jersey in 2012.

Drew (NY)

Also, is the VJAX situation all settled for this year is he going to play like a top 10 reciever

Bill Williamson
  (2:10 PM)

If the current franchise tag plan is part of a new CBA, yes, it is settled. I expect a big year from Jackson.

Omar (Montclair, Ca)

How many yards do you see RUNDMC

Bill Williamson
  (2:11 PM)

How about 1,300-1,500.

Victor (Sacramento, CA)

Would you consider the Broncos content with where they stand at TE? Or will they target an addition via FA?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

I could see them maybe going after a blocking vet like Carolina's Jeff King.

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

I could see them maybe going after a blocking vet like Carolina's Jeff King.

The city of (Cleveland)

When does free agency start? We could really use it.

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

Who couldn't?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

Who couldn't?

Matt (DC)

Bill, can you give me a percentage that there is football this year. Planning a trip w/ my buddies to see the Chargers play in New York and I'm a bit worried the season will either be canceled or not underway by that point. Thanks

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

Don't go booking that trip quite yet, but I say there will definitely be football this fall. The fact that the two sides are talking on their own is a great sign. I think they finally get it that they must talk. The fact that they are doing it in early June is promising. If these guys continue to talk, a deal will be done. I felt that way when the lockout began March 11. Had they kept talking, it would have been done in two weeks.

Knowledge (FLA)

Would SD be better off to go after Namdi and move Jammer to safety rather than give Weddle a big contract if he is a free agent?

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

Maybe. I'm Nnamdi is a star. But I'm not sure it's that easy. But I like your thinking.

bret (aurora, co)

More likely FA signing for DEN, Brandon Mebane or DeAngelo Williams?

Bill Williamson
  (2:17 PM)

I think thye like them both, but their availibility depends on the new CBA.

Keith (New Jersey)

if jason campbell does enough in the 2011 season to become the franchise quarterback, how many years do you think he would be in that position? he's gonna be 30 at the end of the year, after all

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

If he has a good season, I'd say he'd be up for a 3-5 year extension.

Nathan (DC)

Do you think Moreno is the answer at RB in Denver? Is he the kind of back that Fox would be satisfied with?

Bill Williamson
  (2:23 PM)

I think Denver wsould like to get a bigger veteran back to pair with Moreno. John Fox likes to run the ball, so he'll need another back.

Adam (Irvine,CA)

Hey Bill,If Corey Liuget meets his expectations of being a starter on the D-Line how do you think the Chargers defense will do this coming season?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

A strong defnese would only get stronger. He has the ability to get into the backfield and be very disruptive.

Money (SD)

love ur chats, but did u ever think of changing ur profile pick of you chillin on the beach in hawaii with a cocktail

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

Not a bad idea.

Greg (Champaign, Il.)

Signs seem to be pointing toward Tebow starting right of the gate this year. From reports about teams interested in Orton, to some comments from the Broncos brass, to the receivers working out privately with Tebow, I don't see how Orton will be their QB in 2011. Agree or disagree?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

If the lockout ends fairly soon, I expect Tebow to be the starter.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Surprised the Broncos turned down Hard Knocks? I was disappointed, I mean, it's not like they were Super Bowl contenders and were going to have a distraction to that...

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

No, it's the first year of a new regime. I think everyone just wants to get their feet set and move forward atthis point.

Brian (Philadelphia)

Bill, do you think Brandon Lloyd could have another big year after coming from out of nowhere last year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

He'll have the opportunity. Denver plans on it.

Keith (New Jersey)

if you were to take a wild guess, when would you say normal football operations would resume?

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

July 5.

Donnell Smith (San Jose ca)

Do you see the Raiders making the playoffs this year? If we even have a year

Bill Williamson
  (2:33 PM)

They need to get better play from the offensive line and the young kids have to continue to get better, but, yes, they have a shot. I'd like to see them play better outside the AFC West. 2-8 isn't going to cut it.

Chad (SoCal)

What are the Broncos options in free agency at Defensive Tackle?? I love the players that were drafted(Miller, Moore, Jackson); but im still nervous about the front 4.

Bill Williamson
  (2:34 PM)

It depends on the rules of free agency. The Broncos would likely jump on Mebane of Seattle if he's free.

Nostradamous (.)

Hindsight being 20/20, do the Broncos still draft Tebow if they could do it over again?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

With this brass? In the first round? I'd say no. Tebow was McDaniels' pick. Don't forget that.

Sergio Quintero (Tijuana, Mexico)

The role of 3rd down back for the chargers, will it go to Todman, or will Mathews and Tolbert get more plays on 3rd down? I don't like rookies as 3rd down backs, and both Mathews and Tolbert don't seem very natural for the role, any chance they bring in a veteran?

Bill Williamson
  (2:37 PM)

The Chargers see Todman as a solid third-down player. But Mathews and Tolbert will likely be involved greatly this year.

Jason (orlando)

do you feel Elway understands Tebow's potential, and leadership abilities better than he's letting on. Elway himself did not have stellar numbers until much later in his career. Do you think he is more in Tebow's boat than he is letting on for Orton value?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

I think Elway is getting more comfortable with Tebow. I think he reall; respects Tebow's desire and work ethic.

Keith (New Jersey)

if you were to make a gut call right now, who would you say is going to be playing opposite Stanford Routt?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

Chris Johnson? Van Dyke?

Ryan (TX)

if you were starting a team, who would you rather have Aaron Rodgers or Phillip Rivers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:44 PM)

I love Rivers. But the tie always goes to the Super Bowl winner. Plus, Rodgers is two years younger than Rivers.

Sergio Quintero (Tijuana, Mexico)

Who do you expect to be starters and on the roster at ILB for the chargers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

Cooper, Siler and Burnett could all be free. I think it's a wait-and-see situation.

Ricky Rich (Bay Area, CA)

If you had to guess one big free agent Al Davis would throw money at this off season who would it be?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

He already signed a bunch before the lockout started.

Zack (Durango)

Any chance of the Broncos getting Charles Johnson?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

I think John Fox would love to reunite with him.

Jack (Boston)

What team in the AFC west do you think the lockout hurts the most? The Broncos because all of their changes or a team like KC who was building on a strong season but can't move forward?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

I think it is Denver because it has a new head coach and likely a new quarterback. That's a lot of missed time.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Do you think Terrelle Pryor is better/worse than Cam Newton?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

I can't say he's better at this point.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Is Jacoby Ford the fastest guy on the Raiders? DMC? DHB?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

Don't forget Routt and now Van Dyke.

Keith (New Jersey)

why didnt the raiders originally start matt shaughnessy at the beginning of last season? he showed and continues to show great potential

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

I'm a big Shaugnessy guy. Underrated.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Better pass rusher - Hali or Elvis? I know you want to discount Dumervill because of his injury...

Bill Williamson
  (2:53 PM)

Right now, Hali because he did it last year. But Elvis isn't too shabby, either.

KCCheifs (Kansas City)

Matt Light in KC? Thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

I could see it. There's the Pioli/Cassel connection and Albert could move to right tackle. That would be pretty strong.

Po in the Truck (Brooklyn)

Are the Raiders looking to put Stefan wisnoski at center or left gaurd?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

Starting center.

KCCheifs (Kansas City)

Which position is better fit for Dexter Mccluster? RB or WR? I've argued RB but I'm no expert.

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

We're going to address that on the blog Friday.

KCCheifs (Kansas City)

Can you see Oakland possibly drafting Terrell Pryor in the Supplemental Draft? How likely would this happen? Competition is always good.

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

We addressed that in the blog Tuesday. I think Oakland is the most likley landing spot in the division. However, the Raiders have never taken a pick in the supplemental draft.

Nathan (DC)

Do you think Merriman is done, or will the Chargers regret letting him go?

Bill Williamson
  (2:57 PM)

He hasn't been a factor in nearly four years. So, it'll be tough for him. I think the Chargers have moved on.

Scott (KC)

How good can Ricky Stanzi be in Kansas City?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

He's a long-term propsect, but he is a guy who has some nice raw ability.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Did you read about Jon Baldwin gong with Matt Cassell to Joplin? For a guy with supposed character issues, this seemed like a real standup thing to do...

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

Yes, I saw that last week. Very nice move by the kid.

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

Yes, I saw that last week. Very nice move by the kid.

Keith (New Jersey)

what exactly is the supplemental draft?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

It's a draft for players who's college eligibility ended after the deadline to file for that year's normal draft or for players who decide to leave school.

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

Great hour folks. Talk to you next week.
