Do you think that Mark Texiera will play probably this weekend after he got hit in the Knee on Tuesday?
He took a wicked shot on his knee. He felt better last night after the game, but with a bone bruise you never know how it will react. I don't see Teixeira plays tonight. Maybe tomorrow. You would think by the weekend he will be out there.
Ortiz has made a career of showing up the Yankees w no retribution? How about someone puts one in his ear - not back, not butt
I don't think they need to do that, but I do think they very well could retaliate tonight.Girardi believes in professional retaliation. We saw it with CC last month in Baltimore when he hit Nick Markakis after Chris Dickerson got beaned. For more on this topic, check out our Hot Button issue on ESPNNewYork.com
Do you think the Yankees will go after a front line starter at the trade deadline? If so, who? If not, when?
I definitely do. But it is hard to say whom at this point. Brett Myers probably could be had from the Astros. Do you want him, though? At the moment, it looks as if the type of starters who might be available -- Edwin Jackson-types -- aren't that much of an upgrade. The best hope for the Yankees is for Phil Hughes to comeback. However, a big-time starter could shake loose there is just not an obvious guy out there right now.
With all the theatrics from Papelbon and Papi last night combined with Lester plunking two yankees, does someone on the Red Sox finally get one in the back tonight?
Bruce, I think the Yanks could retaliate tonight. The Red Sox have beaten them down and rubbed it in their faces. I believe Girardi is mad and he may want A.J. to stand up for his boys.Girardi isn't usually as forthright as he was last night.
Andrew, so to me we have 2 pitchers i trust each and everytime out. Two others who can possibly get there with a lot of work and one of those guys is pitching BP. Literally. So this has to worry the Joe, Cash, etc. What are some realistic options we could see? Via trade or call ups
Alex:I went through trade stuff before. Noesi is a possibility as a starter. He helped himself again last night. He was the outside candidate in the spring, but he had Visa problems. The kid Phelps could be another option. Betances and Banuelos are unlikely as starting options this season.
Hi, Andrew. I always read because I can't listen to you. What do you think happened with A-Rod? He started the season ON FIRE but after hits his 5th HR he never was the same. What would be the problem?
Thanks, from the DR. That's impressive.A-Rod is really hard to understand this year. He looked so good in spring training and then to start the year, but he goes in and out.I think maybe it is just age. He is still a very good player, but not the elite of the elite.
Do you think, given what Pettitte has said recently about pitching, that Pettitte could come back late season. Especially if there is another play-off chance?
Nope, Pettitte isn't play this year. Next year, could be another story.
Jeter is basically a #9 hitter now and it looks apparent that arod is only a shell of his former self. After Jeter gets 3,000 hits do you see lineup change. They still look like garbage. Maybe Arod to the 5th spot and putting Tex 4th while moving granderson or cano to the 3 whole.
I agree on Jeter. Maybe not No. 9, but bottom of the order for sure. No power, barely average. You want him getting less at-bats, not more. The problem is there is not great flexibility in changing the lineup. Cano OBP means the fifth spot is probably as high as you want to hit him now.I don't think Joey G will make any change soon.
How short is Nick Swisher's leash?
I think he is giving himself some slack by finally hitting a little. But I think the leash probably extends to the middle of next month. If there is no top of the line pitcher and he is still not hitting, Cashman may decide that is the place where they can improve thisteam.
Man, Yankee fans are the biggest bunch of whiners I've ever heard from. Hurt Ortiz? Really? You really think Lester WANTED to hit those guys and put people on base after the Sox put up a 3 spot? Wow, get a clue.
Just, I would say the problem was Ortiz' showboating on the HR.Plus, even if it is not on purpose, some believe that you hit one of theirs when they keep hitting yours. I don't, personally, but I think Joe G might believe that some.
Will Hughes ever develop into an Ace?
Right now, I don't know how anyone could argue yes
With the weather getting warmer and balls starting to carry, how long before the Freddie Garcia magic wears off completely and they have to replace him? Before Hughes is ready to go? Will they look internal? If so, who gets the call first? Noesi? Warren? Mitchell? Phelps?
All those guys could get a shot. I think Noesi would be the first in line right now.Garcia's second half splits weren't good last year. David, definitely something to watch.
Who do you think has the better staff, starters to closers, Yanks or Saux?
Eric, that is where my favorite professional wrestlers were always from.Sox have better starters. Bullpen is a push.
Its amazing how other teams call up their best pitchers a year after they're drafted (Leake, Cincinnatti) but the Yankees let Betances and Brackman toil. At some point doesn't the risk have to be taken? Dont we need these young flamethrowers? Or are we trading for an ace?
Kevin:I see your point. The Mets used to be super patient with their prospects and I always thought that was over-cautious. Then under Omar Minaya and Tony Bernazard they rushed everyone and that really didn't work out.It is a fine line. I think in the AL East, in this market, you have to be a little patient.
David Ortiz has REPEATEDLY torched the Yanks. He relishes every opportunity he gets to hit at Yankee Stadium. Now last night, he blatantly shows up Noesi and showboats his way around the bases after that home run. What is it going to take to throw at this guy once, hit him in the back, and make him the slightest bit uncomfortable at the plate?
We could find out if the pirouette is the thing.
Who of the retired Yankees do you believe should have their number retired? Maybe finish the 1-10 with Jeter and Torre (2 and 6)
Didn't know Jeter retired. Anyway, Jeter and Torre should both have their numbers retired. No doubt.
Did you disagree with Giradi taking out Garcia that early last night?
Yes, he was getting crushed. Freddy sort of complained about it, but the Red Sox were smoking him. Joe G was right.
Whats the status of Eric Chavez?
Still can't run. Not coming soon.
Is Joba, Montero, Swisher, Brackman a fair trade for Felix Hernandez?
I would say no. Mariners are in the race. They probably weren't trading King Felix if they were out of it. Now, that they are in it, he ain't going anywhere.
Can the Yankees continue to depend on the longball and make the playoffs playing so one-dimensionally?
They can make the playoffs, but I don't they can do well in them unless they diversify
Who bats third tonight? Cano?
Great question. I would say Cano, but his OBP is so low it is not ideal. That's going to do it for this chat. I'll be out there tonight. Looking forward to see what happens. Thanks for chiming in and reading. Appreciate it.
