Hi everyone, let's get rolling.
Will Brady Quinn have any trade value once the lockout ends? Everyone sees the broncos trading Kyle Orton but I think everyone is looking at the wrong QB.
There isn't a big market for a third-string QB.
There isn't a big market for a third-string QB.
Do you see the Chiefs bringing in a vet NT like Barry Cofield or Chris Jenkins, if (pending on the CBA) they happen to become free agents?
They tried to get SHaun Rogers before he signed with the Saints prior to the lockout. I do think the Chiefs want a veteran nose tackle.
Hello Bill...enjoyed the column about Jacoby Ford last month. Do you think he will start at WR this year or do you believe that Heyward-Bey (Al Davis favorite) will be the starter. It seems like Ford should be on the field as often as possible. Thanks
Thanks, Tim. I just posted a blog on Hue Jackson saying Ford will be a household name. Jackson has been hot on Ford all offseason. He knows he has a star on his hands. I definitely see Ford being a starter. He's proven mroe than DHB. It's only fair.
Now that some teams are saying they are not interested in Nnamdi. Is it smokescreen or a closer reality that he stays a Raider?
I think it's simply the fact that a couple of teams are not going to spend big money. That's all. I'm not convinced the Eagles are out of the picture.
Hey Bill, love the work and keep it up! My question is: When all is said and done, who will be the starting recievers for the Chargers in 2011? Do they let Jackson or Floyd walk?
Thanks, Allan. It all depends on how free agency is addressed. If I had to guess right now, I'd say Jackson and Floyd.
Which Denver TE is more likely to make an immediate impact? 4th round pick Julius Thomas or 7th round pick Virgil Green?
Well, it seems silly to pick the seventh rounder, but I'm going with Green for two reasons. I, Thomas has played one year of colege football. He is a nice prospect, but he's a project. 2., Green is good. He was downgraded in the draft because of an old injury. if he's healthy, he can help right away.
Hey Bill,Would it be safe to assume that the longer the lockout lasts, the higher the chances that a lot of free agents just return to their old teams, since there would be much less time to learn playbooks etc?
Save to say, yes.
Hey Bill !!I follow the blog every day. Keep up the good work. Question: Who do you Think Will be the starting middle LB for the broncos? I Like joe mays hard tackling philosophie but Might not be fast enough for Fox' defence?
Thanks, Casper. The plan is for third-round pick Nate Irving to take over in the middle. Denver is goign young.
What will the Chargers record be if they fix up Special Teams? How good will they be?
Hard to tell. There could always be injuries. But let's put it this way: If San Diego doesn't have any major issues on special teams, it will be a contender in the AFC.
There are so many rumors about DeAngelo Williams to the Broncos, but what other RBs could you see as potential fits? Bradshaw, Sproles, Ronnie Brown?
I'm not sure Sproles is the answer as a workhorse. The other names are solid. Ricky Williams, maybe, as well.
Nobody predicted Kansas City to win anything last year. Any chance the Broncos surprise this year and win the division?
Well, you hit it by mentioning the Chiefs. There are surprises every year. But Denver winning the 2011 AFC West title could qualify as a big surprise.
Bill, Love reading about the AFC West. The only time I get mad at you is when you go on vacation!Doesn't it make sense, since the league has expanded over the last 30 years to expand the Hall of Fame inductees? FIVE guys and that is it? I find it incredibly insulting to Chris Carter, Isaac Bruce, Torry Holt, Tim Brown, Willie Roaf, Charles Haley, Jerome Bettis, etc, etc, etc... I find it a shame that these great players (not good...but GREAT) are not receiving the credit they deserve.
Thnaks, Mad ... I'm with you. There is a bad logjam for the HOF. It will never get better in this current situation, because there are so many great players who are soon going to be eligible. I think the process needs to be revisted.
Bill, great work keeping the blog interesting during a boring lockout! Question: Is Jovan Belcher likely considered the long-term answer to start at ILB or is this a spot the Chiefs could look to upgrade in the future?
Thanks, Jon ... yes, they like Belcher a lot. he is an underated player. He was really impressive last season.
If the Chiefs start retooling their D-line, does it make sense to trade Dorsey?
Dorsey came on on like gangbusters last year. Don't trade him now.
Will the raiders go after Plaxico?
I know they could use a vet, but they have some young, exciting receivers. I wouldn't be excited about a 34-year-old who has missed the past two years.
Pryor to Raiders for a 5th in the supp draft? Will Pryor still even be around for a 5th?
Maybe. Could be worth a fifth. The word is he'd go between the 4-7th rounds.
Whos will be the starting CB opposite Champ? Goodman, or do they go young and go with Cox?
Right now, it looks like Goodman. But a lot can change.
What are your thoughts on Seymour paying for everybody at the workouts the Raiders held?? That guy is an ultimate team player...
Pretty awesome. Richard is a good man.
Over/Under: John Fox coaches the Broncos for 3 years.
Do you think the Raiders will still have the cap room to sign an offensive tackle after the needed resigning of stars like Zach Miller and Michael Bush? Veldheer is looking good going into his second year as a starter but I seriously doubt Barksdale can so quickly come in a be a successful starter so soon. Who is the best target in the free agency, once it begins, for the Raiders to target to solidify the young line?
That might be tight. I think the team is ready to move on with Veldheer and let him grow.
Hey Bill, do you think any AFC West teams will make a push in the supplemental draft?
I wouldn't get too excited about the supplemental draft. There usually aren't that many good players in it. In fact, Oakalnd has never used a supplemental pick since it began in 1977.
Raiders front 7...Houston, Seymour, Kelly, ShaunessyWimbley, McLain, ScottSound right?
Right now, they have Scott as an end, but that can change.
Do you think the Broncos will keep B. Dawkins? As a person he is great and a awesome leader, but you have to have the goods to play and he didn't last year. This scenario has played out like the John Lynch signing.
They want to keep him for one more year.
Bill, love the blog. How long until KC's Defense gets into the top 5? Tons of talent, need to start showing results and they have, but they got the talent to get in the top 5 at least, right?
Thanks ... It is on its way. They need to get a little more stout in the middle, though.
Bill, do you think that the Quinn/Hillis trade is one of worst in Den history? Who takes the most blame for it?
It way, way up there. The Willie Brown deal wasn't too swift, either.McDaniels get 100 percent of the blame for the Hillis deal. That was a major blunder in a blunder-filled 23-month error, er, era.
how do you think the kick returns and punt returns are going to be handled in oakland? i figure jacoby is going to return kickoffs but where does taiwan jones come into play?
For now, Ford is the kick returner, but Jones will likley be in the mix. Perhaps on punts. But Ford is a weapon on returns. He must be used.
Do you think Denver's D is going to break the top 15 next year?
From 32 to 15?How.
Hey bill, do you think the beer in North Dakota will be as cold as the Broncos were last year?
For your sake, I hope it is.
Most underrated def player in the divison?...Garay, Houston, Flowers..?
Funny, you ask. We are addressing that on the blog Friday.
who has the biggest upside coming out of the raider's 2011 draft class?
I'd say Jones or the Ohio State CB.
whats your opinion on richard gordon, the TE the raiders drafted out of miami?
Bill, your blog is ... meh. You seem slightly biased in the fact that you knock on Denver alot. I'm not a fan of theirs but in the words of NFL Countdown, "C'mon, man!"
When has knocking a 4-12 tema become biased? The truth can't be bias.I've I'm biased againgst poor play, then, I guess I can live with being biased.
project forward: if the lockout pushes into the season, the ______________ will have the least difficult time adjusting to the lack of prep time
In the division?Chargers.
Bill, best sign that Denver is back.....Tebow starts out hot at QB and Den scores alot or the Defense looks special w/the pass rush and doesn't give up too many pts?
I'd say a hot defense. That changes everything.
16 game season over under on 20 TD tosses and 15 INTs for Tebow?
I'd say slightly under on both.
Impressed w/ the staff that Jackson has put together in OAK?
Sure, it's not bad. Let's see if those great ex-players can become great coaches.
Which hype train you riding -- the Texans or the Lions?
I like the Lions.
Bill, I'm a lifelong Bronco fan...how much did Josh M***** (hate to write his name) set back Denver's chances of winning div? Do you think he set us back severely or just kept us status quo while he was there?
The McDaniels era was a disaster. Simple as that.
Do you think the lockout hurts more: a young up and coming team like the Chiefs or a veteran team like the chargers whose window is closing?
If the season is played, I don't think it hurts the Chargers.
With all the new LBs in Denver, is Wesley Woodyard nothing but a special teams player?
Special teams, rotational guy.
Thoughts on the possibility of reuniting Steve Breaston and Todd Hailey...how much would the Chiefs have to pay him and would you play him or Baldwin in the slot?
I could see it. It would give the Chiefs another nice weapon. I really like this offense.
Hey Bill, why am i not getting shown any love around the NFL?? in Chicago i perfomed adequitely with gas station attendants as WR's. No love. in Denver under Mcdaniels complex (and benign) offense i was a top ten QB in terms of numbers WITH NO DEFENSIVE HELP! No love. Now im only worth a 2-3 rounder?? Shouldnt my moniker read as followed: does alot with very little? where is the love Bill?
I'm sold on you. I was wrong about you. Don't worry, you're a starter somehwere this season.
When is the supplemental draft? Is it going to be broadcasted on television?
Uusally in mid-July. No TV.
Do you see Wisniewski and Barksdale both starting this year on the Raider O-Line with the expected departure of disappointing Robert Gallery??
Wiz starts for sure. Barksdale will get a chance.
Which AFC West team do you believe has the best overall defense?
The Chargers were ranked No. 1 in the NFL last year.
What game are you most looking forward to next season?
Week 1. Let's get it started.
SINCE HUFF IS LEAVING DO U SEE ME AS A STARTER IN OAKLAND NEXT TO TYVON?
If Huff leaves, it's your time to show you were worth the high draft pick.
Touche, Bill. I was only kidding. Your blog is great. I'm a daily follower. Just not a lot of stories to write out there during this lockout. Do you think the labor situation gets settled in the next 30 days?
It's cool. Just having a little fun ... I've always been optimistic on the lockout. I do think it gets settled in the next few weeks. I think both sides finally realize it has to get done.
If K. Moreno under performs this year will the Broncos look for another franchise RB in next year's draft or sign a vet?
I think that's fair.
Will Larry English ever live up to his 1st round drafting?
Like Moreno in Dnever, English has to make an impact now or the Chargers may move on.
What rookie has the biggest impact this year in the division?
Got to start with Von Miller, right?
Bill - assuming the season happens - Jay Cutler returning to Denver...loudest boo in denver broncos history?
Can Woodson be 1/2 the coach he was a player?
On Cutler: It should be a wild day.On Woodson: That would be a pretty darn good coach.
Other than the Broncos declining, any news on Hard Knocks in the AFCW? Thanks-
No, it's been quiet.
Im a lock for DROY right?
Nothing is a lock, rook. You're learn.
should we worry about the possibility of Jacoby hitting a sophomore slump like Eddie Royal?
It's possible, but Ford just seems like a guy who will get better as he goes.
Do you think Eric Decker could be a breakout canidate for Denver this season?
He has to stay healthy, but he has some nice potential.
I think a move from 32-15 can happen because of Miller, Moore, Irving, Carter, Mohamed, Beal and any potential DT draft picks and perhaps a more impressive offense that will take some pressure off the defense. No hope??
There's hope, but counting on third-day picks to be instant major contributors is hoping a lot.
What rookie are you most looking forward to watching?
I want to see how Baldwin can affect the Chiefs' offense. There's big potential there.
Do you think the quality of play will noticably suffer (assuming they do play) due to less training time, guys out of shape, rookies not integrated?
If a big chunk of camp is missed, yes, I think there will be rust in the first few weeks.
Bill, 2-1 Q's.... always wanted to know if you and Matt Williamson are brothers? and Is this the year Tyson Jackson (DE,KC) earns his keep
1. No relation. He's too smart to be my brother.2. It better be.
Do you think there's any part of Pat Bowlen that regrets firing Mike Shanahan?
Probably a little. The Broncos have dived pretty badly.
Great hour, folks. Talk to you next week.
