Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:02 PM)

What's up party people? Let's get to it. As always, all subjects answered.

Max (Maine)

Rizzo was called up today. Would you rather have Hosmer or Rizzo the rest of the way? (standard scoring)

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:03 PM)

Hosmer.... Better offense around him, better division, better home park... close but I like Hosmer more.

Andrew S. (Medford NJ!)

How do you feel about Dillon Gee second half of the year? do you think he'll be able to keep up his hot streak?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:05 PM)

Somewhat, though he's struggled on the road this year... 6.38 ERA away from CITI, which makes me nervous. Right now, he's a spot starter in mix leagues

Micah (CT)

Trying to catch lightning in a bottle. Do you think I can buy low on Dunn, Uggla from a frustrated owner, and make out in the second half? Really could use a power lift and not much trade bait to offer

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:06 PM)

Yes, I certainly think you can buy low. I'd rather Dunn than Uggla. Uggla looks really really lost right now and I have reason to believe it's not getting better anytime soon. Might be my worst call of the season. Ugh. No pun intended.

Dan (CA)

What's the weirdest email you've gotten?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:11 PM)

Wow, that's a great question. I'd really have to think about it. One really crazy death threat that got into my religion.... Marriage proposals... I get random emails from people asking me to gointo business with them that are like.... I got this great idea - i can't tell you it, but if you sign up with me and promote it and loan me some money we'll both be rich, just trust me.... so insane stuff like that....people ranting at stuff that have nothing to do with me, like yelling at me becayuse of the BCS or something Skip Bayless said or something random.... I did have one from a guy who runs a small fantasy sports website that had just trashed me six months ago asking me for a job at ESPN and telling me what a big fan he was...that was funny...too many to choose.

Redskins Fan (Baltimore)

2 questions real quick Bedard or Liriano ROS? and please tell me Moustakas is coming soon stupid Lawrie

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:13 PM)

Bedard. Look at Liriano's K/bb, even AFTER he changed his delivery. (23/17 k/bb in last 30ip) His 2 best performaces were vs CLE and SEA... Not buying the "He's back" talk.Yeah, the hand injury with Lawrie really hurts - we discussed on today's podcast with Stephania. I believe Moustakas is up in July.

Drew (NY)

Whats up Mr. Berry, Do we have a status update on Yunel?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:14 PM)

He's not in lineup today with the quad - nothing beyond that.

Bill (Toronto)

Will Justin Turner hit the rookie "wall" soon or do you think he will remain productive the rest of the year?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:15 PM)

Somewhere in between. Playing a bit over his head but this is more legit than not.

Curtis (Brighton, MI)

No one has been talking about Ichiro like Dunn and Uggla. How worried are you? Currently hitting .256.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:17 PM)

Definitely worried, though he's not as bad as those two guys. He's on pace for almost 40 steals and 80 runs - down numbers for him but not useless. The average will come up.

Jack (mehville)

lyon or Guerrier-ros? Thanks love your work.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:18 PM)

Lyon has better shot at saves though I'd rather have Guerrier, who is the better pitcher and let the saves fall where they may

Erin with an E (Portland OR)

I own Lind in all of my leagues. Is he for real or should I sell high?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:19 PM)

For. Real. Thanks for listening.

Berry Island (Isle of Berry)

Come on give us some relief on this hot day answer!!! Itching for fantasy football satisfy that itch with some genius predictions of early sleepers like last year's Arian Foster please!!!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:22 PM)

Well, trying to predict a season like Foster's last year is insane... but I do like Blount A LOT this year... going deeper, I think Ryan Williams in AZ is interesting as is Roy Helu in Washington and I could see Shonn Greene having a post hype sleeper year

Rod (Reading, pa)

How do you feel about Dee Gordon for this year and the future?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:23 PM)

Like him. He's fast, son. Fast.

Joe (Bronx, NY)

Today's column doesn't really apply to H-2-H leagues. For instance, maximizing innings by streaming/adding lower tier pitchers probably negatively affects ERA and WHIP. Basically, one can't rely in an accrued lead in any categories. Any suggestions on how to come back from a deficit in a H-2-H league? Thanks.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:27 PM)

Very true, it does not. 10 tm Roto leagues are by far the most popular on ESPN, so the column tends to be geared towards that.In a h2h league, pitching is super devalued and your season is only 7 days long, so the priciples of the article still apply: Getting as many at bats as possible, so fill you bench with hitters and then stream pitchers, especially towards ends of the week to make up ground. H2H leagues are easier to make up ground in than Roto, I feel, assuming you are playing total cats, not just you either get 1 win or 1 loss every week.

Nathan (Maryland)

Do you pick your own questions to answer or does someone help you find the good ones while you're typing away?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:28 PM)

pick my own. One man show over here. Many times when you are waiting it's because I'm scrolling through lots of questions... I get thousands and it only shows me like 15 at a time.

Nash (my desk )

Corey Patterson or Michael Brantley rest of way?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:28 PM)

Brantley

Justin (Boston)

J Bourgeoius or D Jennings? What say you?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:29 PM)

Bourgeios. The Rays seem in NO hurry to call up Desmond.

Scott (Huntsville)

Thoughts on Nicasio today? Deep 5x5 worthy?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:29 PM)

yes

Zachary (Oklahoma)

Would you make this trade? I'm thinking my friend is an idiot... I'm a Wright owner so I'm looking for a replacement 3rd baseman for the next month or so, and have a pretty stacked outfield. So I offered Justin Upton for Michael Young to a guy who has the best 3rd base eligible player in the game, Jose Batista. This is a weekly points league with no corner or middle infield slots.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:30 PM)

I'd jump at that. Would much rather have Upton.

Shawn (CT)

The pace of this chat implies you have 10 billion questions to scroll through--and you went through all of them

Matt (Barry)

Who do you like better Rizzo or Lawrie?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:31 PM)

Rizzo

Haymaker (Austin, TX)

Markakis or Francoeur ROS? We have to start a LF, CF, and RF so I have to play one of them.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:31 PM)

Francouer. Markakis is terrible. And I hear he's mean to women and children, too.

chris (okc)

gordon or scutaro as a backup MI?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:32 PM)

Gordon. Even if Dustin goes on DL.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

I'm in a FF league where people are so reluctant to make trades, unless it's getting AP for their backup QB or something...what do you think I can do as commish to motivate?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:33 PM)

Make it a keeper league with limits on who you can keep and for how long, draft picks, etc... so teams that are out of it are much more inclined to deal.

Alex K. (NYC)

Football: I'm in a 14-team, 2QB league where we keep 6 players. I have McNabb and Henne. Is either worth hanging on to, considering the top QBs are never available?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:35 PM)

Depends where McNabb ends up and who else you would not keep for either QB... it's not out of the question. But if you didn't, would whoever you draft be significantly worse than either guy? If not, I throw 'em back.

Shawn (Detroit)

Kelly Johnson a top 8 2B the ROS?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:35 PM)

top 10 - he won't stay this hot but you know power is for real.

Franks Tanks (Salem, MA)

Brandon Morrow - breakthrough or tease?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:36 PM)

break through...

Joe (Ann Arbor)

Do you consider yourself a celebrity?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:37 PM)

No. I think I'm well known to a certain group of people thanks to the power and reach of ESPN, but no, I'm nowhere close to a "celebrity."

Matt (Philly)

Matthew - would you drop Brett Anderson now or wait for the TJ surgery announcement? Everyone seems to be suspecting the worst, and Dr. Andrews is now involved, so what's the use of be patiently hopeful?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:38 PM)

Well, because you never know, but yeah, it's looking grim.

Dan (San Jose)

I think you are VERY special.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:39 PM)

hahaha

Tebow (Denver)

Best 2B prospect ROS, J Weeks, Lawrie, Ackley?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:39 PM)

Lawrie

Kyle B (Denver)

Help TMR! Dropping Larwie tonight and need advice. Baker or Volquez ROS?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:39 PM)

Baker

Tom (NJ)

What will Lebron's stats look like tonight?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:40 PM)

High point total (like over 30) but on poor shotting percentage. Like 13 for 33 or something with some FT's. Go Mavs.

Tyler (WI)

Rizzo or Morneau for the rest of the year?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:42 PM)

Morneau, but barely. It's tough with him....

Prison Mike (Prison)

Anthony Rizzo. Go out on a limb and predict his contributions from here on out. Thanks.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:43 PM)

I'll say 15 HR, .270 avg (his BABIP is way high in AAA and it's a hitter's league), 65 RBI, 5 SB

LeBron James (Dallas)

you're trippin. I'm gonna be on fire and truck the mavs tonight. DeShawn needs to learn to keep his mouth shut and not punch sleeping lions.

Dan (MO)

TMR - Humber or Volquez as an Anderson replacement. I like Humber's number except for the little dinky strikeout total.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:45 PM)

Exactly. But I'd rather have Humber and lose some K's than Volquezx and not have to worry he's gonna destroy my ERA/WHIP

Brendan (Taiwan)

What is Kyle Blanks up to these days?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:46 PM)

Arghhhhh

Dan (RI)

That's A LOT of RBI for Rizzo!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:47 PM)

yeah, might be 10 or so too high - BUT THE Padres are playing a little better these days and I'm feeling optimistic

Kevin (charlotte)

Does Humber keep a spot in the rotation?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:49 PM)

Definitely. He's been their best pitcher. And Peavy just went on DL. Again

Brooks (Office)

Why don't people want to see Lebron win a title? I feel like I'm crazy for rooting for him. Besides his poor method of informing the public of his "decision" why do so many people dislike this guy?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:53 PM)

I'll just speak for myself. It wasn't just the televised "decision" but also that he left CLE holding the bag. If he wasn't resigning, he could have told them much earlier in free agency and let them try to make a play for another guy. The whole celebration in Miami before they had won anything. But for me, the biggest is that he went to play with Wade. LeBron is better at hoops than I will be at anything in my life. He has that rare chance that so few people get - to be potentially hte greatest player ever. EVER.And the minute he went to Miami he said - not only will I not be that, I don't even want to try. I'm all for sidekicks - MJ had Pippen, Bird/McHale, Kobe needed Gasol etc etc.... But Wade is basically James equal and already has a title. Watching the Finals... it's clearly Wade's team. And that is the coward's way out in my opinion. MJ would never have joined Wade - he'd have wanted to crush him. Jordan has said that himself, as has Barkley and many others.THAT's why for me.

Annoying 2nd Guess Guy (My Basement)

You think Morneau will be better than .270 and 15 hr's as you project Rizzo????

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:54 PM)

Yeah, I think the power is about the same and he'll hit for a higher average with a better chance at RBI

Mike (Florida)

Wow you havent answered a single one of my questions. Thanks for nothing!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:56 PM)

Another satisfied customer!

carson (Arlington, TX)

I hate LeBron because he is the full embodiment of the self-entitled attitude that seems to be invading the culture these days

TK (Alaska)

With the struggles of Delmon Young and that Span and Kubel are hurt, would Gardenhire be more inclined to play Ben Revere everyday?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:58 PM)

I think at some point MIN has to just throw in the towel and say, you know, it ain't our year. And I'd leave Mauer on the shelf (or DH him a lot), I'd bring up kyle Gibson to get him some experience, I'd certainly let Revere play... so yeah, I think he'll get more run in both the short term and long term

Dan (MO)

Follow up to Humber question. Does the low strikeout rate mean he is in line for some major regression?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:59 PM)

No, because he doesn't walk anyone. He's a finesse guy. I don't thinbk he's THIS good, but it's more legit than not.

Elias (New Orleans)

You said Stubbs was going to be this years Carlos Gonzalez. Who would you rather have ROS?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:00 PM)

I did. Thanks. Still CarGo though. I believe.

Nick (College Park)

Padilla get the closer job back in LA? Does he keep it?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:01 PM)

No and No.

Tim (Wade County)

Don't take it personally Mike, TMR hates the Heat and it's fans, where's Nate when we need him...

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:02 PM)

They are easy to hate - they bring it on themselves. And you gotta admit - LOTTA bandwagon fans in Miami. That said - I like Wade a lot. Amazing player. And I think Spoestra is a much better coach than he gets credit for.

Matt (SD)

So who does take the LA closer job?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:03 PM)

I like Javy Guerra

Sean (Boulder)

As a cheesehead and huge Wade fan, very well said and to the point. It doesn't only take away from LeBron's legacy but Dwyane's as well.

James (LA)

Is Mark Reynolds worth a pickup based on how shallow 3B is this year?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:04 PM)

Yes. Discussed on pod this morning. He's a streaky guy and has 3 HR / 8 RBI in last 7 games

matt (seattle)

MJ had awesome teams with the Bulls, it wasn't "MJ, Pippen and then a bunch of nobodies". The whole "LeBron couldn't get it done on his own" thing is so dumb, I don't even know where to begin.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:06 PM)

They had enough talent to get to the finals and have the best record in the NBA in another year... I disagrere CLE had nothing either

Nick (College Park)

Does Crow still get 10 saves the ROS, or is Soria the guy in KC again?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:07 PM)

Soria the guy

Morgan (Baltimore)

Kobe demanded to be traded because there was nobody on the Lakers to help him win. And then they only won because Pau Gasol got giftwrapped to the Lakers. How come Kobe gets a pass for that?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:08 PM)

Because he has 5 rings. He (sometimes to his detriment) always wants the ball. He wouldn't have passed with DeSahwn Stevenson on him. And Gasol wasn't giftwrapped - just look at how well Memphis did this year with a roster built with a lot of help from the Gasol trade.

Jon (Chicago)

Would you deal Morse for a mid-level closer?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:09 PM)

No. Morse is legit and you can find saves...

Maz (NJ)

I'm a Lebron fan. I get the hate but don't agree. This guy is everything thats right with basketball. Plays the game hard both defense and offense and does things no one else can do. Wade is a great player but Lebron is going to be one of the legends. He makes Wade a better player. The Heat would not be in the finals without Lebron. And all this talk about Lebron being a coward and so on.. he is leading the Heat in points, assists and steals in the playoffs and 2nd in rebounding.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:10 PM)

I agree with a lot of that. No question - he's a big part of why the Heat are in the finals and he's a great player, obviously.

Jordan (Ohio)

Kobe doesn't get a pass for demanding a trade and running Shaq out. It's a part of his legacy. He won 2 rings as the MAN, and 3 as a side-kick. Kobe's legacy is his ultra competitiveness even though it can alienate his teammates.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:12 PM)

That's fair.... although Shaq wore out his welcome too - as evidenced by all the other teams he's been on....

Matt (SC)

What's the deal with Frank Francisco? Any shot at reclaiming the closer role or droppable in a 12 team mixed?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:12 PM)

yes, he has a shot but I'd rather have Rauch. And yes, he's droppable.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:13 PM)

Ok gang, almost 15 minutes over... Thanks for stopping by. Follow me on Twitter at www.twitter.com/MatthewBerryTMR
