Good morning gang. Back at it for another hour of fantasy chattage... As always, second cup of coffee in hand. Who in the name of Bartolo is up first?
Phil Hughes threw a bullpen session the other night. Any idea how it went or if Hughes is worth a spec pickup?
Heard an interview with Cashman yesterday... looks like July at the earliest for a return date. I'm not exactly leaping at the opportunity to stash here.
Can you go over the pitcher to batter trade scale? What is Weaver worth?
Keeping in mind that batters play every day - so there's more opportunity to earn "counting stats" and SP already have a zero in saves and can't really control wins... Weaver is worth around the No. 15 hitter.
Who are some shortstops that you think are good to target for ROS besides Reyes and Tulo?
Alexei and Drew come to mind.
Better 3B moving forward - Sandoval or Peralta?
While I do like Jhonny going forward, I think Kung Fu works his magic.
AJ - Alexi took his first loss of the season. Just a first loss or a first look at his deterioration?!?!
It was also against a team that has seen him before. No need to jump ship yet, but always judge *newer* pitchers on their work the second time around a bit more heavily than the first...
Drop Cahill? He's brutal. Any sign of recovery?
I'd send him packing. The free-fall has not yet ended. Almost more BB/9 than K's. Ugly.
What about the relief pitcher to batter scale?
Because of the IP being so small, it's about 1/4 that of SP. The No. 1 closer right now = Coco Crisp/Starlin Castro. That's not to say that if all a team needs is saves you can't get more... but this is the statistical value. It's always going to be what the market will bear...
Please rank these OF for the ROS. Hart, Choo, Rajai, Dig Dug?
Hart ahead of Adam, then a drop off to Choo and Rajai.
Streamed Nicasio last night, was very impressed. Worth a full-time spot?
Not there yet, but impressive numbers in spite of the high BAA. I'd like to see that drop a bit before buying in.
Is Godzilla worth owning in AL only now that he is DH only under new A's manager?
A HR every 20 or so ABs and a BA of .220? Yuck, whether he's playing the field or not.
Please settle an argument. Top 5 pitchers ROS in a league that counts L's and QS's.
Greinke, Halladay, Haren, Hamels, Price.
Is it time to trust Francisco Liriano, or is he still only worth streaming?
I think he's got another big blow up in him, but I'll throw him out there until then.
are you buying low on Ubaldo or jumping ship? Seems like he could go either way.
He will do better than he has done, but the ERA is not going under 4.00. Spot starts.
Are you concerned about Andre Ethier's lack of power?
He's got no speed, so without the HR's his value won't rise above say 75th overall. It's not a bad place to be, but it's not No.1 OF either.
Will I get my closer spot back? If so how long?
I'd say he technically still has it.
What...how am I NOT top 5 ROS????
Justin, baby, I love ya. You were my preseason Cy Young prediction. You'll be fine. We're splitting hairs at the top of the list... chillax!
If Bourgeois gets to start in Houston is he better than Rajai?
By leaps and bounds, but frankly, I'm at a loss to explain why JB isn't getting the PT.
Which inconsistent SP do you like more for ROS...Nolasco or Morrow?
Morrow. I'll take his strikeouts and hope the control comes along for the ride.
Buzz Saw: is this as good as it gets or will there be some growth?
I think he is what you see now.
AJ, when you are comparing the value of RP to Hitters you are completely diregarding the limited number of saves in the FF world. Should you not consider the replacement of someone like Crisp is far more valuable than non closing RP...this is just poor logic
Beg to differ, Jeff. I'm all on board with the fact that you can trade Jose Bautista for Jamey Carroll head up (for example) with a few weeks to go if all you need is a few SBs to win your league. (or in the case of closers, say Kevin Gregg.) But in order to evaluate true value, you need to treat saves on a par with all the other categories.
What's up with JJ? 60 day?
Part of it is his injury and part of it is simply the juggling that needs to be done to get the roster in order as other players go on and off 15-day DL. At least you know now and can plan accordingly... but it's not a good thing to hear.
Judging by most of the Fantasy Baseball chats it seems like if you are not playing in a Rotisserie league then you are doing it wrong. Is this a fair assessment?
There's no right or wrong way to play, as long as the people in your league all want to play that way. Personally, I think rotisserie is better, but that's solely my opinion.
What kind of career do you see JESUS MONTERO having? Call up due to Martin's dl?
Montero is not getting called up. I think they'll throw Posada back there before that happens.
any love for Jon Niese? If nothing else, he's got the park on his side. He's been very consistent lately. solid back end guy for a fantasy team?
I'd put him as a No. 4 guy right now, but he's at max value right now.
Any ideas for a good reliever to vulture wins and get an occasional save (a la Clippard last year)? Or is it too unpredictable to try?
Just get *good* RPs. David Pauley, Jim Johnson, Edward Mujica, etc. and let the vulture chips fall where they may.
What are you doing with Asdrubal, holding or selling high. If i want to trade him, what price should i be asking or reasonably expecting to get for him. Also what are you views on porcello and scott baker for ROS. THanks
Right now Asdrubal is top 10 hitter. No way I think he keeps that up, but I do like him more than most other SS. So I'm probably keeping him. Baker over Porcello.
Would you trade J. Upton for Cole Hamels?
No. I think Hamels gives you more value the rest of the season.
Going to a bachelor party in Montreal...You ever been and any recommendations? Also Rizzo or Ike Davis ROS?
No recommendations for debauchery, but Gibby's Steakhouse in Vieux Montreal is a must. I'm worried about Ike's health, and wondering when he comes back, so I have to go with Rizzo.
@ Harrison's comment - Where's the love for Venters?
It wasn't an all-encompassing list... and I think Venters is well-known enough.
No reason to worry about Lincecum, right?
I'm not all that concerned... he's dropped *all the way* to No. 25 in my rankings-to-date. That's not exactly cause to run into the streets in a panic.
Woah, Ryan, I'm also going to a bachelor party in Montreal this weekend. See you there? AJ do you miss the Expos?
I'm just glad Youppi! found work.
Just picked up Freese as a speculative DL add...him or Headley once Freese is healthy in a points league?
Assuming Mr. Freese is healthy, he's my guy.
Thoughts on JJ Hardy?
I'm in. Surprisingly so.
Can you discuss Dominic Brown. What do you expect from him for the ROS?
I think he's got so much protection in that lineup with everyone healthy that he can't help but do well. BA will not be great, but as you saw last night, he's got the power.
There is nothing to complain about Weaver but am I the only one who is worried about the number of pitches that they are leaving him out for?
Remember, it's not the number of pitches, but the number of stressful pitches. Working with a 4-run lead from the get-go is not the same as going 0-0 into the ninth.
Started Ogando last night because Daily Notes gave him a 9 against the Yankees. I should have went with my gut but how could he have a 9 against the Yankees in Yankee stadium???
Because the QR is based on statistics alone and when a pitcher is 7-0, it's hard to get that QR to be any lower. That's why we make adjustments to the list and don't simply leave it at that.
Johnny Cueto! I'm guessing the 1.68 ERA may come up, but what do you see from him ROS?
I hope I am wrong... because the numbers say he's going to kill it the rest of the year... but everytime I watch him pitch, I fear for his health. I actually root for him to walk the leadoff guy so that he has to pitch from the stretch.
Is Dan Hudson a must start option every week regardless of who the opponent is? Is he a fantasy ace?
Most of his early-season problems were in the 1st inning, which spoke to his preparation for starts. Now that seems to be behind him, and as such, he is on the verge of being a fantasy ace.
Thoughts on Colby Lewis? Or is the owner who dropped him in my league right
I think Colby's stay on the waiver wire should be a long one.
Dempster back in your circle of trust? Start him vs NYY on Sat?
Not yet, and not against the Yankees.
Ian Kennedy or DHudson?
Hudson. But both have been top 20 so far.
Thoughts on Angel Pagan ROS???
Pretty much what you've seen. Some SBs and little else.
That's the whistle, gang. Got to run and pick up the little one from his last day of Kindergarten. Where does the time go? We'll be back on Friday for another hour, and there's always the Twitter. Until then, good luck, and may the odds be EVER in your favor.
