Chat with Les Miles

  (1:11 PM)

LSU head football coach Les Miles will be here at 1:30 p.m. ET to take your questions!

  (1:36 PM)

Coach is here!

Chris (Minnesota)

How do you feel about your special teams units compared to last year's stellar group?

Les Miles
  (1:37 PM)

I feel like our kicker might be as good as the one we lost. Our punter is good, but untested. Our return game, we'll miss Patrick Peterson, but Matthew, Clayborn, Brooks and Randall will be able to handle it. I think our special teams needs to play improved.

Adam R (Albany)

Mr. Miles, where have you come up with the ideas with the fake field goals that you are now famous for? And since when do kickers have good speed?

Les Miles
  (1:38 PM)

Those fakes are really just specific to the talent we have. That kicker was a great soccer player and aggressive player. I don't know if we make those same calls without them.

Jeremy (Chicago, IL)

Out of the 17 losses in 7 years (which is amazing), is there a loss that still bugs you?

Les Miles
  (1:39 PM)

The Auburn game at Auburn, I think we lost 9-7 or 9-6. It just felt like there were a number of ways we could have won. That game was the difference that we could have played in the SEC championship.

Jacques (Baton Rouge, La)

Hey coach, what are your views of wearing gold uni's for a 2011 home game? Good luck this season!

Les Miles
  (1:40 PM)

Not likely. I very much enjoy the tradition of LSU's uniforms. I like to change the uniform very rarely.

Will (Metairie, LA)

Coach, how have Kragthorpe and Jefferson been working together? I liked the formations I saw in the spring game, seemed much simpler than Crowton's offense. Now we can really focus on the things we're good at, smash mouth football with that great experienced O-line.

Les Miles
  (1:40 PM)

It seems like they've meshed very well. I like the way that Kragthorpe teaches. I think it will benefit Jordan in his final year.

Tony (Pt Jeff, NY)

You eating grass OR Jerry Tarkanian chewing a towel- which is the cooler quirk?

Les Miles
  (1:41 PM)

I don't know which one is cooler. I'm just kind of partial to a blade of grass now and then.

Cole Brister (Anchorage, Alaska)

Week 1 you guys play Oregon who had the highest scoring offense in the nation last year. The Ducks are arguably the largest obstacle in the way of a LSU national championship. How do you plan to contain them?

Les Miles
  (1:42 PM)

We're going to do the things that we've done and done well on defense. I don't know that we'll have a lot of changes. The national championship will be out there but it won't be played for until the end of the season. We want to take them one at a time long before we get there.

Dylan (Ocoee, FL)

What is the hardest stadium, in your opinion, to get a win in?

Les Miles
  (1:45 PM)

I have enjoyed playing in all of the SEC venues. There are a number of wonderful places. I think the fan bases we walk into are wonderful people. I really don't see that as a significant issue.

Ryan M (Orlando FL)

Is it hard bring in a whole new group of players trying to repeat the team success of last season?

Les Miles
  (1:46 PM)

What we try to do is recruit well. Recruit the guys that will be as talented as the guys we graduate. The responsibility of each player to step in their role is the responsibility of the position. If you man it you have to play it.

JC (Miami,FL)

How patient will you be with Jefferson this year?

Les Miles
  (1:47 PM)

I have seen Jordan play through a number of situations and a number of years. I expect he'll play his best. We'll substitute to give our team the best chance for a win. So I won't say we won't play other QBs, but I like him and think he'll have his best year.

Les Miles
  (1:47 PM)

I've had a great day here. I like the opportunity to be at ESPN. It's always a joy to represent LSU.
