Sorry folks. We're having big technical problems.
Hello all... technical problems notwithstanding, it looks we've got some time to chat here... SO, thanks for showing up and let's get going...
Eric, I have Nathan -- do I drop him and pick up Stutes (Madson just went DL'd)?
I think the Phillies will go with lefty Antonio Bastardo. He's been getting lefties and righties out and is having a terrific, All-Star worthy season. Just be aware, Madson might be back in less than a week, and he IS the closer. As for Nathan, haven't heard he'll replace Capps anytime soon, plus the Twins haven't won in a week. Lost season.
I have Hanley Ramirez as my starting SS and Ian Desmond as his backup, however JJ Hardy is available. Should I drop Desmond for Hardy, and if so should I start Hardy over Ramirez for as long as Hardy is healthy and playing well?
I have a league with Hanley, Rollins and Hardy, and I was using Hardy. He's playing the best. I don't expect that to continue, but go with the hot hand. Hanley can't be this bad all year... I hope. Hardy over Desmond... well, depends on need. Desmond might swipe 35 bases... and hit .220.
I presently have Keppinger at SS. Should I go for Y.Betancourt or stay put?
I kinda like Keppinger. Hits for average, is scoring runs, he's an underrated player. I wouldn't want Betancourt.
Have Morneau stashed on the DL and based on his pending surgery and timeline for return thinking about dropping him and stashing Hughes.
I guess I could see it, since Morneau could be out months, and the Twins might not even bring him back if they are in last. But I don't have high hopes for Phil Hughes, either. I assume you mean Phil, and not some other Hughes, like Luke or Rhyne.
You think Blackburn pitches any better in his next matchup? Last nights performance flew in the face of fantasy recommendations.
It sure did! I didn't expect that, but that's why they play the games. I can't feel bad if I had Blackburn active. Regardless, he's very difficult to rely on, because he is so hittable.
Do you think Josh Johnson actually comes off the DL when he is ready, or is this something that could drag on?
No, I think sometime in mid-July seems accurate.
Who is the Dodgers' closer? does it matter?
It always matters. I think it's Javy Guerra for now, but he is obviously unproven. There haven't been many save opps. Either a loss or a 15-0 win!
What do you think of Eric Thames?
Can't make much of a case for the Blue Jays outfielder, even if Bautista does move to third base and they let him play regularly. He does have power, but his current .294 batting average is a bit high. I suppose I could see double digit home runs.
hey Eric-what's your gut feeling on Oswalt? mid-august return?
At least. I think the Phillies feel like they can remain in first place without him, and get him healthy for October, when they'd need him for Game 4. I doubt he's pushed hard during the regular season.
Beachy has looked elite since coming off the DL, pitching better than he did before the oblique injury...can he/will he keep this up? Where do you think he will rank at the end of the year?
Yeah, I am a big Beachy fan... can't say top 20 pitcher, but with these strikeouts he certainly could be top 40.
how long can I ride this Ty Wigginton wave?
He's always had power and versatility, and now he has the considerable backing of Coors Field. Can't say this surprises me much. He's the No. 2 3B in the NL so far!
Should I still be holding Pedro Alvarez on my DL?
Depends how deep of a league it is. Can't say I'd wait around in a standard mixed format. Alvarez should have hit 25 homers... I can't say it's all because he can't hit lefties that he won't. Something else must be wrong. I'm not trading for him in one-year formats.
Hey Eric! Was curious about a few pitchers on my squad, might be time for me to cut loose. Ogando was the one who worried me the most, but I also have Vogelsong, Humber and Karstens. Do you ride the train or find alternatives? Im looking at Bastardo right now.
I like all those pitchers, really. Vogelsong not pitching well today, but would still go with him over Ogando, Humber and Karstens. If you need every save, go get Bastardo... I'd let go of Ogando. SOmething's amiss there...
Where do I fit in amongst the 2Bs here on out?
I'm not optimistic Barney can hit .300 the rest of the way, and since he doesn't have much power or speed, he wouldn't fit in for the top 15 or so second basemen...
Longoria/Bumgarner or Hamels/Bernadina... Which side would you take
Tough one. Love Hamels but trust the other side of the trade more. Longoria is a top 10 player.
I have Corey Patterson, but should I give him up for someone like Boesch or Bernadina?
Not sure any are difference makers, really. Boesch should be the best fantasy option here, though Bernadina is doing well. Not sure why Patterson would continue to get at-bats.
Hey Eric. I was wondering, would it be a good idea to trade Joe Maurer/Lance Berkman for Ryan Braun/Mark Teixeira?
Yes. It's a very good idea. One of your best ever.
Do I fit amongst that top 15?
Probably not. I just don't see enough power or base stealing prowess yet. And it's Seattle. Tough to hit there.
With all due respect to Jose Bautista... if he's moving back to 3B, should I not expect to get promoted even after my hand feels better?
It sure looks like the Jays don't expect Lawrie back anytime soon, thus the reliance on Thames in RF. Investing in rookies is dangerous...
Drop who of these pitchers? Volquez, Lowe, Morrow, Bailey, Morrow?
Probably Lowe. No strikeout upside. Volquez and both Morrows have it. Bailey should be good.
Eric Hosmer, Billy Butler, Mike Morse - pick two for the rest of the season please. Thanks so much!
Remarkably, I will say Hosmer and Morse. How about that!
Jason Heyward stinks!!!! And don't excuse it with "he's playing hurt". He is ALWAYS hurt.
Whatever you say, CC, whatever you say... (I don't agree)
Do you see Beckham turning things around? Picked him up as a flier...is he worth owning/keeping on bench?
Honestly I gave up on Beckham about a year ago. I've seen no reason to reconsider this season.
EK, wow, we're you right about Gordon Beckham -- dude is my fantasy kryptonite. In order to avoid a similar problem, would you drop Liriano for Lilly or Billingsley.
Nah, I still feel like Liriano can pitch well. And it's not like Lilly has been better. Billingsley is what he is at this point. Liriano has that upside....
Is Raji Davis worth owning? Seems to have lost his game!
I had to bench him in a daily league... he's never on base. Still, potential for a 10-steal month at any time. Stash him.
Which catcher should I nab - Wieters, Soto, Ramos? And would you go with any of them over Napoli when he returns?
I would go with Wieters and Soto over Napoli, but not Ramos. I anxiously await Wieters hitting for consistent power... hopefully this season.
hey CC YOU STINK
Hey, if he doesn't like Heyward, that's up to him. Me, I think Heyward will be a star. He's not healthy, still.
Hey Eric - Would Aaron Hill make your Top 15 2B?
He might steal 20 bases, so on that alone it's possible... 10 homers, 20 steals, .240? Yikes.
Lucroy or Soto? Im not diggin' Soto's BA...
Don't even look at it. It will go up.
OK, well today has been an interesting day. Hang in there everyone and hopefully everything will work and all of our fantasy options will hit and pitch well tonight! Thanks for showing up and have a great day...
