Chat with Andrew Feldman

Andrew Feldman
  (1:02 PM)

Hey everyone! Happy Wednesday! Big day of poker ahead with the final table of the $50K, so send in your questions now and we'll get started in a second.

Andy C (Indiana)

All other poker info is blocked here at work, so if you could provide chipcounts of the final 9 at the $50K, that would be awesome. Also, with the FT being all NLHE, does that make Phil the favorite?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:04 PM)

I think that the fact that it is no-limit gives Phil an advantage, but let's be serious, the final table is extremely talented with players who have all succeeded in no-limit hold 'em. There isn't one player at the table who I can say isn't a good NL player to compete.

Cory (Sacramento)

Hole Cards tonight or no?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:05 PM)

Not tonight. Wish it was going to be offered though as I'm sure you do.

Curious (NY)

Hi Andrew, do you know how seriously Dwan's bankroll will be affected by losing all his two-year bracelet bets?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:07 PM)

I do not, but it really depends on whether or not it was a first-to-a-bracelet bet where he and whoever he bet with had to win one first.

Sam Renauro (Bellmawr, NJ)

Is there a way to track the events that our favorite players have entered (not just cashed)? For exapmple, I'd love to know if Phil Galfond is 0 for 20, or just has not been playing. Any idea?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:08 PM)

This is a concept I've been discussing with the WSOP and right now, it's not possible. I think that in the future, maybe even next year, it will be available, but for this year, they'll only send out a list with notable entry numbers

Chris (NJ)

do you know that you are chatting at the same time as you new BFF Anik?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:09 PM)

Yeah, he's probably angry...and you don't want to see Anik angry.

Nicole (Vegas)

Do some of the players at the tables get leg and foot massages or is it just back and shoulders normally?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:11 PM)

Yes. If you can find a masseuse who isn't occupied by Greg Mueller.

James (Las Vegas)

How deep must Phil Helmuth go in the 50K to lock up the World Series POY

Andrew Feldman
  (1:16 PM)

He can't lock it up today regardless. Even after today's event, there's the WSOP main which awards 500 points to the winner, plus the seven events at WSOPE. He can take the lead though, but it'll depend where Ben Lamb finishes and where he finishes. The multiplier is huge for this event which is why things can change so dramatically

James (Florida)

Do you think the pros who wore FTP patches in the tournaments leading up to the Main Event won't wear them in the Main because of the greater exposure that comes along with the Main?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:17 PM)

I don't think they'll wear them regardless unless some major positive news breaks on that front. Why bother to advertise a site that doesn't exist?

Chris (Oxford, UK) [via mobile]

Fill in the blank: Hellmuth will finish in _ position tonight...

Andrew Feldman
  (1:18 PM)

Third. Ly beats Glantz for the title. Odds that anything I just typed is going to happen: 10%.

Andrew (New York)

Explain again how Mercier is that many points back in WSOP POY standings? Just feels like he should be higher.

Andrew Feldman
  (1:19 PM)

His first final table came in a 1,500 and his win came in a 5K. The higher the buy-in the more points and while he's had an awesome WSOP, he didn't earn enough thus far in the $10Ks.

KJacks (Orlando)

I think we understand why the $50k final table is all NLHE (for TV), but do you wish it was played the Day 1-4 format to give a true mixed-game champion? Also, what are the blinds starting at tonight? (curious how many BBs Seiver has to start)

Andrew Feldman
  (1:22 PM)

I personally would like to see the mixed-game format continue, but it doesn't translate to the casual espn poker viewer on TV. Not sure about the blind structure as I don't know if today's action starts with NLHE or a mixed. It was planned to play the final 8 as NLHE and there are 9 remaining right now.

Matthew (Long Beach CA)

With this final table does that mean Phil Hellmuth is no longer just a hold em player? Will they finally put that to rest with this world series?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:24 PM)

Just read: http://espn.go.com/sports/fantasy/blog/_/name/poker/id/6742071/a-final-table-legends-rising-stars

Freddy Fish (NY)

Should in your opinion Howard and Chris Ferguson be blackballed from the live poker scene for how they are handling the FT situation. Obviously they used there fame to build FT and have shown they have no clue how to run a successful business. Yes, I have money on FT and its a joke how they have handled everything since April 15th.

Andrew Feldman
  (1:26 PM)

My opinion is that we need to wait and see their actual involvement in all this stuff if it ever comes out. We can take educated guesses regarding their situation, but if Bitar and Burtnick, the indicted, were the ones that made the decisions and brought this on, should we really blame Howard and Chris? I'm not saying they should be free and clear, but depending on the resolution, I can't accurately say how it'll play out in the future.

lance (hays)

Hahahaha. Just saw your answer on mueller. He was at my table in event #9 and my friend refers to him as "Mr. 5 hour massage guy"

Andrew Feldman
  (1:27 PM)

I don't think I've ever seen him without a massage girl. Even talking to him in the hallway sometimes. Those hockey injuries must feel better after a 10 hour massage, right?

Joe (Atlanta)

I was offered fifty cents on the dollar by a poker pro here in Atlanta for my balance on Full Tilt. Should I accept his $11 or hold out for my full $22

Andrew Feldman
  (1:28 PM)

If they get sold, part of the deal must be the repayment of US players. I'd hold out...but I've been confident in FTP making things right since the start, so take that in any way you'd like.

Josh (Philly)

Whoa Whoa Whoa.. whats with this 1:30 stuff.. what happened to 4?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:30 PM)

Will be very busy at 4 today in prep for today's E3 event. Sorry Josh!

Dan (Colorado)

Andrew - Thank you for your awesome tweets and posts during the wsop. Any word on if the Full Tilt team will be moving on or are they locked down. And I mean Gus, Erik, Jennifer etc not the side team.

Andrew Feldman
  (1:32 PM)

Appreciate the good words Dan. I'm not sure what they'll be doing as the future of the company is still undetermined. I think from a PR standpoint, I would separate all ties if I were them, but that might not be possible.

Freddy Fish (NY)

Andrew, understand but these guys have been the face of the company from day one. All of a sudden they are quiet as mice. They have lost the respect imo of about 95% of the general poker community. A public statement was needed from them. They have received horrible PR advice up to this point.

Andrew Feldman
  (1:32 PM)

HORRIBLE PR advice. This is a clear scenario of how not to handle a company disaster on the PR front.

Cory (Sacramento)

Doyle Skipping the Main Event because of personal reasons, end of an era or just health issues?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:35 PM)

Doyle's really been hit hard by Black Friday and probably not just financially. Seems like it took more out of him than most and it appears that he's struggling with all of it. Sad that he won't be at the main event.

Jaxx (Philly)

In Friday's chat you were asked about playing Aces in the Main Event... If you were in the big blind with AA, and the blinds are 25/50, first hand, and the betting goes... call, raise to 500, raise to 2000, raise to 10,000, then All-in, Call, Call, then to you. You would still "play them the same"? Sure your the favorite to win, but against your odds are not good, and you might not have any outs (except for a 4 flush). If you win, you still have less than 1% of the chips you need to win (or even cash).

Andrew Feldman
  (1:37 PM)

Yes, I'm calling. If I'm going to be bad beat out of the main early on, that's the way it should happen.

Dennis (New Bedford)

Contrast the deep runs of the Brat and Lamb with Kid Poker. People speak of short term variance, but there has to be a huge skill component as well. Is Negreanu really just "running bad" this series or are there real holes in his game?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:38 PM)

It's hard to criticize a player like Daniel who really puts everything he has into his game. The question is that all his cash game preparation and success both live and online may have affected his tournament game just slight enough that's it's caused this run. All that said, he's suffered some terrible beats this summer.

DG (calif)

Ivey saw the FTP disaster coming and got out with his rep in tact. Ferguson and Lederer have obviously got something to hide (besides themselves). Any idea why they would leave the country? Harrasssment, arrest warrant.....

Andrew Feldman
  (1:41 PM)

DG - They left the country to work on the solution. Not because of legal concerns. At least that's what it appears.

Josh (Philly)

continuing with the Negreanu theme.. there was a comment in your article about negreanu multi-tabling basically saying that he shouldn't even be held in high regard any more within the Poker community and isn't still among the "greats" of the game. I contended that although tourney cashes and wins are nice, true poker greatness is measured in consistent money.. cash.. bankroll.. and that negreanu's bankroll continues to grow and is probably higher than about 80%, if not more, of "poker pros"... your thoughts?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:42 PM)

Disagree. People need to look at all aspects, not just recent short-term results to make the accurate assessment.

Andrew Feldman
  (1:42 PM)

Oh, and getting back to Ivey for a second, now that he's dropped the lawsuit, what does that really mean in terms of his reputation?

Phil (NY)

What happened to Josh Arieh?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:43 PM)

Out in 13th for $124,723. Not bad $$

Joe (Atlanta)

Anyone Anyone who folds Aces Preflop should not be at a table playing poker. Agree or Disagree?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:44 PM)

I'll throw myself under the bus here for half a minute, but yes, there is a correct spot and that's on the bubble in a satellite when you could be at risk if you called and there are numerous shorter stacks behind you.

Al (Iowa)

Not that he needs it but has Hellmuth's performances this year gained him some respect among the Online Generation that has been pretty tough on him. Is he doing his usual Camera Mugging or is it a more focused down to business Phil?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:45 PM)

He told me he won't do any interviews until the WSOP is over...or until he wins. Phil rarely ever turns my requests down and it really is all business this summer.

Josh (Philly)

I doubt you'll be able to answer this because of question selection haha, but did you mean that you disagree with the other commenter on the article, or my opinion?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:46 PM)

With the commenter.

Nate (Woburn, MA)

Andrew, how is local boy Bernard doing this year? I feel like I have lost touch on him.

Andrew Feldman
  (1:47 PM)

Cashed four times, made one final table and still disappointed that he's bracelet-less.

Andrew (New York)

Anybody planning on doing commentary tonight?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:49 PM)

I think tonight's broadcast team is David Tuckman and a rotation of pros.

Dave (Fort Worth)

Can't find the results for DN $25k fantasy draft...you know where they are at?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:49 PM)

ownivey.com has their draft and our draft and results.

Ron (Seattle)

Hey Andrew, what is your over/under on online poker's return to the US?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:50 PM)

For you in Seattle...uggg...I'm sorry, but your state doesn't look promising. For everyone else, I'll go with a 15 months as the line. Things are heading in the right direction, but there's not a ton of momentum to get it done immediately.

Ron (Seattle)

When will Phil Gordon return to the PokerEdge podcast?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:51 PM)

I was hoping he'd be back already, but he's not ready to. It's hard for him as he can't talk on the FTP topic right now and it wouldn't sound right if he comes back and we don't address it at all. It's also his birthday though if you want to tweet @PhilNoLimits

Sam (NJ)

Ready for the media event? We're rooting for you.

Andrew Feldman
  (1:51 PM)

15 minute blind levels are my specialty.

Cory (Sacramento)

Is ESPN ever going to air any other poker other than the WSOP or is that part of the deal with the WSOP contract?

Andrew Feldman
  (1:52 PM)

We had NAPT up until a couple months ago. I don't believe that we'll see more than the WSOP in the near future...unfortunately.

Andrew Feldman
  (1:52 PM)

Thanks for all the questions today. Don't forget to watch the final table tonight (please) on ESPN3.com starting at 6 p.m. Main event starts tomorrow and I'll be back at 4 p.m. ET for another chat. have a great day!
