Chat with AJ Mass

AJ Mass
  (10:59 AM)

Good morning, gang! Expect the unexpected as we take you through the next 60 minutes of fantasy chattage. THIRD cup of coffee in hand (Bet you didn't see THAT coming! What a twist!)Who, pray tell, is up first?

Jeff (Markham, ON)

"Trout! Trout! Let it all out. These are things that fantasy baseball is all about! Trout!"

AJ Mass
  (11:01 AM)

What can I say, I'm a sucker for Roland and Curt. Trout is a must-pickup in keepers, obviously. I'm not sure he'll stick once Bourjos is back in the mix, since the move was a result of his injury -- but if he comes out strong, why send him back? I'd take the chance here.

Werth More?? (DC)

Is it time to drop Werth and pick up Freeman?

AJ Mass
  (11:02 AM)

I think that time was long ago... what are you waiting for?

Dave (Philadelphia)

Coco Crisp and Jordan Zimmerman for Marcum. Which side do you prefer?

AJ Mass
  (11:04 AM)

I'd take Zimm right now, then trade him in a few weeks as he gets closer to the IP cap his team has put on him.

Billee (Kalamazoo)

First of all, I totally agree with you about the twists in Big Brother. Just let them play the game! Second, ED and Danielle are fine, but Jeff/Jordan and Brenchel make me cringe...your thoughts?

AJ Mass
  (11:05 AM)

They've completely changed the game by doing this "team" nonsense... very frustrating. Don't get me started on the returning players... awful!

Brian (Connecticut)

Phil Humber: bump in the road last night or sign of regression to come? Dude had been money as a starter up until this

AJ Mass
  (11:06 AM)

Bump in the road... he's sure to have one or two more along the way, but nothing to worry too much about.

Andrew (Long Island)

Hey AJ, now that Trout is up when will the other stud Jennings be up? Thanks

AJ Mass
  (11:08 AM)

One has nothing to do with the other. Trout came up because of an injury need. Rays will probably wait until September.

Ryan (Philly)

What value of hitter would I need to offer to get Kimbrel? Morse?

AJ Mass
  (11:09 AM)

Kimbrel is No. 1 RP right now, so you're not likely to pry him away for less than a top-50 bat, and even then it's going to take some arm-twisting.

Chris (Lexington, KY)

If Trout is a regular for ROS, what type of numbers do you think he puts up?

AJ Mass
  (11:12 AM)

Don't go nuts here... every season we get a handful of Trout-like prospects. Some fail miserably. Some surge early, then fade. A few end up sticking for good... Take the risk, watch a few games and then make an educated call on whether or not you think he's ready. Until we see some ABs, nobody knows.

Rob (DE)

Chances Hamilton takes time off until after ASG? I can't begin to imagine how hard that is to cope with.

AJ Mass
  (11:15 AM)

Indeed, you have to pause a bit when something as tragic as that happens and step back a bit... one hopes that Hamilton will be able to process what happened quickly, for his own sanity, forgetting any baseball for the moment.

Slick Rick (Lexington)

We know nobody "knows". I believe he was asking for your prediction based off your experience.

AJ Mass
  (11:17 AM)

I get that... and I'm saying, nobody knows... that is my prediction. I am saying to take the risk here with Trout, because he has the talent, but because this callup wasn't made because "he's ready" you have to expect he may not be.

Auto Update Police (Internet)

Auto Update!!!!!

AJ Mass
  (11:17 AM)

Sir, that's a "you" thing... not a "me" thing...

David (Kansas)

Do you think that the additin of Mikel Leshoure will hurt Jahvid Best's numbers?

AJ Mass
  (11:19 AM)

I'll take this opportunity to mention the Draft Kit is slowly filling up with articles. Obviously, a lot still to be determined... Leshoure could well be a vulture, and certainly won't help Best's numbers.

Steve (Indy)

Ackely over Uggla ROS?

AJ Mass
  (11:20 AM)

...and ROC as well.

White Sox fans (everywhere)

Rios and Dunn - any bounce back hopes?

AJ Mass
  (11:21 AM)

Rios more than Dunn, but for fantasy purposes, I'm not sticking around to find out.

Dan (Boston)

AJ, Better second half Martin or Napoli?

AJ Mass
  (11:23 AM)

Napster for me.

AJ Mass
  (11:23 AM)

Incidentally, electrical storm brewing here... so if something happens... bear with me... fingers crossed.

Gilbert N. (Asheville, NC)

Wigginton, Headley, or Freese? Thanks AJ!

AJ Mass
  (11:24 AM)

All pretty comparable players, but I'd go with Ty.

Andrew (Phoenix)

Can Ryan Vogelsong keep up his pace the rest of the year or should I use him as trade bait?

AJ Mass
  (11:26 AM)

I think he's legit, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't shop him around... if someone wants to give you a better SP for him, by all means...

Auto Update (Off)

Every other chat it automatically comes on

AJ Mass
  (11:28 AM)

I have a little button in the corner of my screen that says either Turn On Auto-Update or Turn Off Auto-Update... I always put it in the "correct" position... after that, I don't know what to tell you...I'm just a unfrozen caveman lawyer and this technology frightens me.

AJ is Gallardo back above the"Wandy Line"? a must start again? thx!

AJ Mass
  (11:29 AM)

I have YoGa as my No. 26 guy right now... so pretty darn close if not.

Frank (NC)

Save speculation...Nathan, Adams or Lidge ROS?

AJ Mass
  (11:30 AM)

Nathan would be my guess... I don't think Lidge comes back and Joe gets the chances sooner than Mike.

Cheeseburger (Margaritaville)

Niese, Gee, Dickey the right order ROS?

AJ Mass
  (11:31 AM)

I can get behind that.

Anthony (Cali)

Rasmus for Espinosa. Who do you want?

AJ Mass
  (11:32 AM)

You can't spell Espinosa without ESPN. I'll take Danny Iosa.

David (Kansas)

With James Jones likely out of Green Bay, what do u think Jordy Nelson's role will be in the offense this year?

AJ Mass
  (11:33 AM)

I take it you did not yet read our Sleepers/Busts column:

Michael Pineda (Seattle)

Am I on an innings "leash?" If so, should my owners sell-high right now?

AJ Mass
  (11:35 AM)

Yes, yes you are. But it looks like the tactic here is to space out starts rather than with Zimm, where it seems to be a "when the timer goes off, take it out of the oven" -- I'd hang on, as there could be value throughout...

Aslan (Narnia)

Think Beachy gets a QS tonight?

AJ Mass
  (11:37 AM)

No, hence the low ranking despite the high QR in Daily Notes. And I prefer Fillory to Narnia, Lion-O.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Do you subscribe to the theory of getting a stud QB over having 2 that you platoon? I'd rather go with a combo of RBs and WRs in the first 4 rounds...

AJ Mass
  (11:38 AM)

Um.... um.... ... um....

Randy (chicago)

Jason Bay's hot....should i take him off the wire?

AJ Mass
  (11:39 AM)

Color me not interested...

Ivan (txi )

Is billingsley below the sandy line? What type of closer should I get for him?

AJ Mass
  (11:42 AM)

Cordero or Valverde at worst... There's a Grease joke here, but I'll pass.

Frank (Ohio)

Chipper is playing injured and 3B is a wasteland ... any hope for him or should I be looking at the wire?

AJ Mass
  (11:43 AM)

The writing is clearly on the wall. Get out before it is too late! The calls are coming from inside the house!

Igor (NY)

AJ, espn ppr rankings for TE position ranks Clark 25, Gates 29, Witten 32, Finley 38 and Davis 41. This seems to high for me. In a 12 team ppr league Clark, Gates and Witten would go in second round. Don't you think that's too high?

AJ Mass
  (11:45 AM)

No way I'd take a TE in the second round, even in PPR. The position is incredibly deep. 5th round is the earliest I'd think about it, personally.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

I read your article, just wanted you to expound...where's your cutoff at elite QBs?

AJ Mass
  (11:46 AM)

Rivers... it would go down to Romo, but there's too much injury risk with him.

Steve (SD)

Grease Joke!!! Cmon AJ don't leave us hanging! Your jokes, as corny as some of them may be, make your chats entertaining.

AJ Mass
  (11:47 AM)

Yeah, but all I could think of was "I've got Bills...he's multiplying..." and even by my standards... FAIL!

Bill (Milford, CT)

AJ, please help! My baseball league is thinking about changing the waiver rules because a team near last dropped CC for no reason. I'm currently the first in waiver line, but they're accusing me of colluding with the guy because he offered me a trade earlier in the year which I accepted (and which the league rejected immediately as being unfair). What should/can I do? Thanks!

AJ Mass
  (11:50 AM)

1) Can't change the rules mid-season. 2) Any league that vetoes deals when there's no collusion is one to get out of. 3) However, it does *seem* fishy. Have the LM put CC back on that team and allow him to trade to you, as should have been allowed earlier.

Eddie (Hoboken, NJ)

Shout out for BB to my good buddy from Hoboken, Adam! Give you someone to root for! Rank pls: Weekes, Beckham, Ackley.. thanks!

AJ Mass
  (11:53 AM)

Dustin, Jemile (I'm assuming), Gordon. How can one not like, at least on first impressions, a 90210-loving heavy-metal dude?

Scott (Seattle)

Choose 2: SDrew, ARamirez, NWalker

AJ Mass
  (11:54 AM)

Sorry, Neil.

Derrick (FL)

Trade Jose Reyes or stop worrying?

AJ Mass
  (11:57 AM)

No way you get proper value while on the DL, so you stand pat.

Mike (San Diego)

AJ, I'm hopelessly devoted to your advice. Start Brett Myers tomorrow @ FLA?

AJ Mass
  (11:58 AM)

Wow, that took way too long... I think I ranked him in the 20's in DN... so if you do, you're cruising for a bruising.

Josh (Oregon)

You've seemed to be a significant supporter of Smoak all year, but is it time to make the switch for Freeman for the rest of the season?

AJ Mass
  (11:59 AM)

Yeah, I think it's about that time... to break forth the rhythm and the rhyme. Freeman! Freeman!

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

How do you feel about Josh Freeman? Is his schedule an issue?

AJ Mass
  (12:01 PM)

Can't ever really judge a schedule in the preseason, least of all this year... I'd definitely take him first after all the usual suspects are off the board.

Tim J (Portland, OR)

My last keeper should be Mendenhall, Megatron, or Jennings?

AJ Mass
  (12:02 PM)

I think Rashard. When in doubt, go lead RB.

AJ Mass
  (12:03 PM)

Sadly, that's the bell... where did the hour go? Thanks to all for the Q's, and for those who didn't get picked, there's always the Twitter. BB13 fans can find the Mass Confusion blog... until the next time, good luck and may the odds be EVER in your favor!
