Chat with Dan Rafael

Dan Rafael
  (12:01 PM)

Greetings Fight Freaks and welcome to the weekly chat. Lots going on. We can discuss last week's Klitschko-Haye domination and we have good stuff this weekend with Paul Williams' comeback vs. Lara on HBO and a terrific main event on Showtime with Rios and Antillon. Massive notebook should be shortly and I also have a piece on Williams-Lara, not to mention yesterday's piece on Rios-Antillon and plenty of news stories, including Ricky Hatton's retirement, Cotto-Margarito II and the return of Andre Berto. Let's get to it.

C.M. (Canada)

Have you ever experienced more harassment in your life than you have in the last week over Twitter from the rabid Brits? Chomping at the bit for you, bro!

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 PM)

I found it all rather amusing except for the morons who threatened me and my family. That's not cool. It's a boxing match. Besides, I was too busy icing my sore pinky finger from so much typing.

Corey (Petersburg, WV)

Any idea on 8/6 Pavlik tix? The fight is 4 weeks away and Top Rank doesn't even have a card together.

Dan Rafael
  (12:02 PM)

TBA.

Elvis (Boston)

HBO said Wlad-Haye did a "terrific rating" HBO. Got any ballpark number on what this terrific number is?

Dan Rafael
  (12:04 PM)

I am told it did a VERY strong rating both in the afternoon and in the prime time replay. No hard numbers but they were excited how it performed, especially in relation to what they paid for it. I would imagine between the live airing and prime time replay it had around 3 million viewers, maybe more.

@WillyBeamon26 (Cumberland, RI)

Buy/Sell: Cintron refrains from swan diving out of the ring?

Dan Rafael
  (12:04 PM)

Buy.

Paul (Carlsbad, CA)

hey dan I see on the schedule morales is fight anthony crolla on the mayweather undercard is that a good fight for Morales or a tough test?

Dan Rafael
  (12:04 PM)

It's a stay busy fight and that's about it. Crolla is not a top-level opponent.

Charles (DFW)

Last month, Mikkel Kessler talked about challenging Robert Stieglitz for the WBO title. Any movement on that?

Dan Rafael
  (12:05 PM)

From what I understand the sides are still discussing the fight.

Tony(LA) [via mobile]

DTM , who do u like for this sat, rios or antillon?

Dan Rafael
  (12:06 PM)

Should be an all-action fight. I've always enjoyed Antillon's fights and I think he'll make it a fight, but I am picking Rios. I think he's just a little too strong, a little too young and a little more powerful.

Al (Las Cruces, NM)

I know you've probably been asked this repeatedly already, but in your opinion is Ricky Hatton Hall of Fame bound?

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

Now that he's retired I started to think about that a little last night. I honestly do not know how I will personally vote yet. To me, he is borderline and I will have to take a hard look. That said I think whether I vote for him or not, ultimately he will get in.

Aaron (Hartford)

How on earth Dan does Berto Zaveck get to be an HBO main event ?

Dan Rafael
  (12:07 PM)

HBO elected to make it one.

Bobby (Boxing Land)

Any news on Donaire's promotional situation?

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

Nothing at the moment. Behind the scenes, I am told the Donaire camp and Top Rank are trying to work things out.

Donnie (Providence)

Would it be safe to say that when the chips are down, David Haye just cant toe the line?

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

Safe to say.

Joe (NJ)

In your opening greeting you could have said Toe-tal domination of Haye

Dan Rafael
  (12:08 PM)

Maybe toe-morrow.

Charles (DFW)

Nice to see Felix Sturm offer Macklin a rematch. Any word on whether it will be anywhere but Germany this time?

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

As far as the Macklin people tell me there has not been an official offer made yet.

J (ATL)

PWill-Lara prediction tomorrow? We're all rooting for Paul to get back to the top down south.

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

I think Williams takes care of business.

Ruben (Houston)

Dan, the fight but a whole new meaning to the word "toe jam" huh?

Dan Rafael
  (12:09 PM)

#mytoehurts

Jack (NYC)

Any interest in Haye/Vitali, i actually think it will be quite quite exciting with Vit coming forward going for the KO.

Dan Rafael
  (12:10 PM)

Why should have get that chance after utterly disgracing himself against Wladimir? Let him get in line and actually do something to earn a title shot by doing something other than talking. I would give him less of a chance against Vitali than I did against Wladimir.

Pete (France)

Danimal, what is next for the Hayemaker? I mean, he doesnt deserve a rematch or a fight with Vitali!?!

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 PM)

Maybe a peticure?

Horn (Vegas)

When Haye failed to come out of the locker room on time, was there a small part of you that thought he was not going to show?

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 PM)

Not really. At that point, he had to show up in the ring. And when I say "show up in the ring" I mean physically be there even if he didn't really show up to actually fight.

Dan Rafael
  (12:11 PM)

Not really. At that point, he had to show up in the ring. And when I say "show up in the ring" I mean physically be there even if he didn't really show up to actually fight.

Stevo (Waterdown, ON)

Paul Danley, Any news yet on the Mayweather-Ortiz undercard?

Dan Rafael
  (12:12 PM)

Right now Morales-Crolla is the only thing confirmed.

Roman (Atlanta)

Dan...I've always wondered, when you do your rankings in each weight class, how far down do you actually rank? Top 15-20 or do you stop at 10 and just have a list of guys you are keeping an eye on?

Dan Rafael
  (12:12 PM)

I do top 10 and I have a general idea of a handful of others in each weight division. In other words, if a guy drops out of a division for whatever reason, I usually have a pretty good idea of who will replace him.

pedro (miami)

good morning dan, any news on rigondeaux opponent on espn, also whats next for donnaire , gamboa ?

Dan Rafael
  (12:14 PM)

No opponent yet for Rigondeaux, who is supposed to headline Aug. 19 on the FNF season finale. Donaire is still working things out with Top Rank and nothing is set for him. Gamboa I write about in today's notebook -- he is going to fight Daniel Ponce De Leon on HBO on Sept. 10 in the first Top Rank-Golden Boy fight since Pacquiao-Hatton.

Jeff (Southern California)

Any news on Zsolt Erdei's next bout?

Dan Rafael
  (12:15 PM)

Nothing specific, but there has been talk of a possible fight in December against Jean Pascal or possibly Tavoris Cloud.

Dan Rafael
  (12:15 PM)

By the way, Wladimir Klitschko made this absolutely brilliant video summing up the entire promotion/fight with the Toemaker. It is must see. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYnL5dZ2eBk

Sam (Chicago)

Dan,would you put Sturm v Macklin in the FOTY coversation? It was a helluva brawl!

Dan Rafael
  (12:17 PM)

I would put it on the list, but not No. 1. But really good action fight.

Carlos Colon (Santa Isabel, PR)

How in the world does Chunky DeGale lose and get a Euro title shot, even before Groves does????

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

Very good question.

Will (Manchester)

Dano, you think Arreola wins tomorrow?

Dan Rafael
  (12:18 PM)

Obviously, yes.

Stevey ( Nipas CA) [via mobile]

IF Rios gets passed Antillon who would you like to see him fight? I heard Bob wants to match him with Barrera

Dan Rafael
  (12:19 PM)

I thnk that could certainly be possible.

Luke (LA)

Are the WBA actually sanctioning a "regular" title with Povetkin/Chagaev? I remember when Haye first beat Valuev, they tried to do an interim title bout, but Haye's team requested them not to.

Dan Rafael
  (12:19 PM)

That fight is in talks and, yes, the heinous WBA plans to sanction a "regular" title. What a joke.

TicketsofBoston (Boston MA)

Good Afternoon Daniel-son, Boston Herald columnist George Kimball died on Wednesday, did you ever meet him?

Dan Rafael
  (12:21 PM)

Yes, sad, but not expected news. George was a great writer and I have known him since I started covering boxing in 2000. Was with him at many, many fights over the years and he was a friend. He loved boxing as much as anyone. His book Four Kings on the Leonard, Duran, Hagler, Hearns rivalry is terrific. I actually got my copy out this morning. I have a copy he signed for me.

victor (north jersey)

if williams wins and martinez wins? pwill martinez 3 next year?

Dan Rafael
  (12:23 PM)

That is the fight the Williams people say that they want to make. Martinez's camp will have the final say, but for the right money, I would think they would do it. Williams' promoter, Dan Goossen, wants to do it on PPV. I think that's a bit ambitious.

Matt (portland, OR)

Dan I had a bunch of people over to my house as well as my parents to show them what a great sport boxing can be last weekend. I must say I don't think I've ever been as let down with the outcome of a fight. Thank you David Haye for getting me made fun of and setting boxing back 10 years in my family! You are a joke of a fighter and hopefully Arturo Gatti and Diego Coralles had a cold beer while they laughed at you from up above.

Ross (Indianapolis)

Great to hear we are getting a Top Rank-Golden Boy matchup. Hopefully the first of many more to come

Dan Rafael
  (12:23 PM)

Agreed.

James (Atlanta, GA)

Wait, so how many Ricky Hattons are there now?

Dan Rafael
  (12:24 PM)

Still one, just a retired one.

Nizzi (Des Moines)

Is Arreola next for Wladimir? He seems like an obvious pick.

Dan Rafael
  (12:25 PM)

I'd say it is possible. Wladimir would like to come back to fight in America and Arreola would make sense for that. But Wladimir also mentioned some other possibilities in a thin field, such as Dimitrenko, the winner of Chisora-Fury for example.

Dan Rafael
  (12:26 PM)

The notebook is up, so read it AND THEN ask questions. http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/columns/story?columnist=rafael_dan&id=6748281

Milton (Raleigh)

Dan, Appreciate the chats every Friday, you do great work. I wanted to know how you feel about these rumblings that Khan may face Mayweather before Pac and that Schaefer has even talked about it. What say you?

Dan Rafael
  (12:29 PM)

Khan has been mentioning a Mayweather fight in the future for awhile. BUT if it happens before Mayweather fights Pacquiao shame, shame, shame on Golden Boy and Mayweather.

Dan Rafael
  (12:29 PM)

Khan has been mentioning a Mayweather fight in the future for awhile. BUT if it happens before Mayweather fights Pacquiao shame, shame, shame on Golden Boy and Mayweather.

Patrick (Boynton)

Say what you want about Haye, but I thought when he finally walked into the ring, he could no longer be called "The Ducker". Then I watched the fight, where Haye proved that you could actually Duck someone while being in the ring with them.

Dan Rafael
  (12:30 PM)

He went from Ducker to Flopper. How many times did he go down for no reason?

Stephen (MD)

DTM,only two weeks until the Khan Judah fight, are you psyched? Should be a monster!

Dan Rafael
  (12:30 PM)

I am looking forward to that fight. I will be there for that one.

Stevey ( Nipas CA) [via mobile]

Any word on Canelos next opponent? Is he a lock to fight on the Ortiz-Mayweather undercard?

Dan Rafael
  (12:31 PM)

No opponent yet and he wouldn't so much be on the undercard, although in that position on the PPV, but rather in the main event of his own card at a different venue from Mayweather-Ortiz.

david (korea)

Granted Haye had a bad performance, but the glee you Yanks are getting from it is ridiculous!

Dan Rafael
  (12:33 PM)

Not glee, just truth. I would have loved to see him actually fight or put up any kind of respectable performance, especially after all the talk. He didn't and it upset a lot of boxing fans who bought into his hype.

Cristian (Jersey City, NJ)

Just read that Chavez Jr. is set to fight Manfredo. Were any conversations had at all with Golden Boy regarding a Canelo fight?

Dan Rafael
  (12:34 PM)

He is not set to fight him yet. They are negotiating the bout. As far as I know there were never ANY discussions about matching Chavez and Canelo yet. The fight is not quite ready to be made yet.

Horn (Vegas)

NBA players were annoyed by Haye's flopping.

Benjamin (Little Rock, Ark.)

If Yuri Foreman could still fight when his knee gave out, Haye's got no excuse to bring up his toe.

Dan Rafael
  (12:35 PM)

And Adamek fighting a bloody war with Paul Briggs in their first fight in which Adamek broke his nose about two weeks before the fight and still fought like an absolute warrior.

Benjamin (Little Rock, Ark.)

Dan, any word yet on possible comeback opponents for Jermain Taylor?

Dan Rafael
  (12:36 PM)

Not yet, although I am told that while Jermain still plans to fight the reality is that it won't be Aug. 13 as originally discussed. Just too soon. Not going to happen on that date.

Fred (Montreal)

Hey DTM , would Stiverne be ready for wlad or vitali ?

Dan Rafael
  (12:36 PM)

Ready for what? To get knocked stiff?

Arthur Abraham (Germany)

A broken toe? that's nothing!

Dan Rafael
  (12:36 PM)

Exactly. How's your jaw?

Andy (UK)

I can't wait for Maidana-Guerrero! I have no idea who will win this fight. Have you made your pick yet?

Dan Rafael
  (12:37 PM)

I love this fight.

Ben (Houston)

Saw that the Chavez fight is looking to land in Houston. Would it be at the Toyota Center? Reliant Stadium maybe?

Dan Rafael
  (12:37 PM)

Arum said Reliant.

Shower Door (Las Vegas)

I would like to officially announce to all the Freaks that my next opponent will David Haye's toe. It will be a tremendous matchup between to legends of boxing.

Dan Rafael
  (12:37 PM)

Winner gets Povetkin's tree root right?

Sam (Jersey)

DAN, any interest in Bute this weekend? Chance of an upset?

Dan Rafael
  (12:39 PM)

I'm always interested when Bute fights, but this one will only have some hili on Showtime and Mendy is a pretty lame mandatory. Given Bute's ability and that he is fighting in Romania, Mendy -- who got lucky to get this fight after his pitiful performance against Bika -- has a big uphill battle. I expect a rather easy Bute win.

Mike (Los Angeles)

More of a disgusting performance: Shane vs Pac or Haye vs Wlad?

Dan Rafael
  (12:41 PM)

Haye was way more pathetic. All due respect to Shane, who has shown his warrior spirit many times. But he is an older fighter now who just couldn't hang with a younger, faster, fresher guy. The way that fight went down was not a huge surprise. With Haye, he is the younger, faster guy supposedly in his prime who rather than fight instead did nothing but run, complain to the ref, lose basically every round and then make up a ridiculous excuse after the fight. I have no doubt he had an injured toe, but to blame the loss on that is absurd. I suppose the dog ate his homework also.

John (San Fran)

I thought the Toe-Shower Door winner was a mandatory for the Clottey pothole...

Dan Rafael
  (12:42 PM)

Maybe a box-off between the four. Toe vs. Shower door on one side. Pothole vs. Treet root on the other side. Winners meet.

Jeff (Greensboro)

Dan, when do we in the States get to see the Klitschko documentary?

Dan Rafael
  (12:43 PM)

It's supposed to open in a limited release later this summer or September I believe. I have a screener copy of it and it is very well done.

Brent (Cleveland)

By the way loved when the ref counted the knockdown on Haye when he flopped. not sure I have seen that before

Dan Rafael
  (12:43 PM)

Because he was sick of Haye's con job of flopping.

Justin (Seattle)

I hope I was not an annoyance last Saturday when I tweeted you about Christy Martin not using getting SHOT as an excuse for losing. I felt it was a point that had to be made.

Brock (Illinois)

Top Rank cutting awfully close deciding the network for Pac-JMM. The JMM appetizer is next week.

Dan Rafael
  (12:44 PM)

Arum told me that fight will be handled by the network that does Pacquiao-JMM and he told me the decision would be set by Tuesday or so. Arum goes on vacation to Europe on Monday, so it will be done soon.

Wilson (DC)

Hail Sebastian Lujan!

Dan Rafael
  (12:45 PM)

I've always liked Lujan. Comes to fight, has some personality. And his fight with Margarito, when he almost had his ear literally knocked off his head, was amazing because he wanted to keep fighting. No toe injury excuses for that warrior.

Tom E (Lambertville, NJ)

Haye's podiatrist and Dirrell's neurologist are the same dude

Choco (New Jersey)

I have heard some rumours of Alfonzo Gomez being offered a fight with Canelo Alvarez.

Dan Rafael
  (12:46 PM)

Gomez is one of the possible Canelo opponents for September but there have been no deals made as far as I know.

Mark (San Francisco)

Hey Dan,Any idea when Maidana-Guerrero tix go on sale?

Dan Rafael
  (12:47 PM)

They go on sale today: Tickets, priced at $252, $127, $62, $26, will go on sale on Friday, July 8 at 10 am PT and may be purchased at the HP Pavilion Ticket Office, Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster outlets or by calling 1-800-745-3000.

Dan Rafael
  (12:47 PM)

Mayweather-Ortiz tix also go on sale today.

Steve (Concord, CA)

Assuming HBO gets the Pac-JMM fight, do you think JMM's fight next week would be a BAD or maybe go on HBO Latino like Canelo did not long ago?

Dan Rafael
  (12:48 PM)

My prediction is that HBO gets the Pacquiao fight and that Marquez lands on HBO Latino.

Jeff (Washington)

Haye came out to "Aint no stopping us now!" You think the next time he fights, he will come out to a remix version of the song? "Aint no stopping us now, except maybe a toe!"

darryl p (indianapolis)

is it a done deal with cotto getting his rematch?

Dan Rafael
  (12:49 PM)

Not done yet. The sides are still working on some finer points, but at the end of the day the rematch will happen Dec. 3 I believe.

Justin (Seattle)

What title would El Presidente offer for the winner of a Toe v. Shower and Pothole v. Treeroot match? For a small sanctioning fee, of course.

Dan Rafael
  (12:49 PM)

The interim bronze emeritus youth title?

karl (uk)

happy retirement to ricky hatton....had some great tear ups in the ring a character out of it

Dan Rafael
  (12:50 PM)

Agreed. Hatton was one of the best guy I have ever covered. Always tremendous with the writers, honest, funny, didn't take himself too seriously.

SoHo (NYC)

Dan, Much respect for you and all your work, and I'm far from a Haye supporter because he looked like garbage, but don't you think Wlad is getting a free pass for looking just as bad? Yea, Haye started most of the banter but Wlad saying he was going take Haye's head off throughout the promotion can't be forgotten. Wlad didn't through one meaningful punch and he looked just as scared to mix it up...

Dan Rafael
  (12:53 PM)

Wlad did what he had to do, which is dominate and win every round. Haye ran from him all night. Wlad fought like he usually does. It's one thing to say you're going to a knock a guy and don't get it. That happens. It's another to say the kind of nonsense Haye did and never for a moment come close to backing it up or really trying to back it up. Wladimir is now 10-0 with 8 KOs in his current reign and still has barely lost a round. And he is still champ. Toe-man? Not so much.

Horn (Vegas)

Worse excuse you have heard from a losing fighter?

Dan Rafael
  (12:54 PM)

I seem to recall Oscar claiming a bad oyster did him in for the first Mosley fight. That one drew some head shakes from my press row colleagues.

Patrick (Boynton)

SoHo....Wlad at least tried to fight. Haye did everything he could to avoid fighting.

Dan Rafael
  (12:55 PM)

Another good point. Wlad basically doubled him in punches thrown and landed and won every round. Haye ran. And if his toe hurt so much, you couldn't tell by the way he ran all night.

Roy (Reno)

Dan, I really like the Gamboa DeLeon fight but I am absolutely PUMPED to see GB and TR working together. I really hope things go smoothly.

Dan Rafael
  (12:57 PM)

You and me both Freak.

karl (uk)

are you interested in Haye as a heavyweight now? if he fought a few guys like chambers, arreola etc.. to get back in contention

Dan Rafael
  (12:58 PM)

If he fought legit contenders and beat them, fine, he deserves another chance.

Todd (Queen City, NC)

Dan, I find it so funny that before the fight, everyone questions Wlad's manhood...Byrd, Austin, Haye, etc. Once the introductions are over, they start catching jabs, right hands, and left hooks. Admittedly it isn't the most fan-friendly style, but neither is Floyd's or B-Hop's and they are on everyone's P4P list. So should Wlad, people need to give him his credit as one of the best fighters in the world today. Period.

Dan Rafael
  (1:00 PM)

I could not agree more. Very well said.

Steve (NYC)

Any prominent cruisers thinking of stepping up to heavyweight?

Dan Rafael
  (1:01 PM)

I think Steve Cunningham would like to make the jump.

Patrick (Boynton)

According to the Coach of the North Korean's womens soccer team, David Haye had been struck by lightining before the fight. That is the reason for his performance.

Clay (Chattanooga)

DTM - any chance of seeing John in the states in a big Featherweight clash maybe next year?

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 PM)

Not sure, but Chris John is likely going to fight in Singapore in October.

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 PM)

Not sure, but Chris John is likely going to fight in Singapore in October.

Dan Rafael
  (1:02 PM)

Mayweather-Ortiz tickets just went on sale.

odogg (NM)

I hate ticketmaster! Mayweather tickets just went on sale two min ago and none of the $150-$300 are available

Dan Rafael
  (1:04 PM)

Shocking. Typical BS.

Roy (Reno)

Dan, just booked my flight for the Maidana Guerrero fight. Have you been to the HP Pavillion before and how is the seating?

Dan Rafael
  (1:05 PM)

Never been there.

Charlie (Chicago, IL)

just FYI to the freaks, tried on multiple computers to get Mayweather/Ortiz tix, and they sold out in the first 50 seconds

Dan Rafael
  (1:08 PM)

Well I just went on Ticketmaster and there are tickets for Mayweather-Ortiz available. I asked for a single ticket and was offered section 7, row J, seat 3 -- a #1250 ticket.

Steve (Concord, CA)

Just got my tix for Maidana-Guerrero! Row 5 baby!

Kieran (Alexandria)

Just saw that our buddy the Colonel will be back behind the mic for the intl broadcast of Rios-Antillon. Great to see him back on his feet.

Dan Rafael
  (1:09 PM)

Exactly. I am overjoyed by the news. Was told the other day that Colonel is feeling better and back on the call for the international of Rios-Antillon tomorrow. So good to hear.

Timo Perez (Dominican Republic)

FYI Dan....NO TICKETS ARE AVAILABLE....ALL SOLD OUT AND OR UNAVAILABLE......just fyi for everybody...sucks

Dan Rafael
  (1:09 PM)

Not true, I just tried moments ago and was offered tickets on ticketmaster.

Jack (NYC)

What was with the needless revolutionary war comment on twitter this week, stick to boxing. You provoke people then when you don't like the response you start crying.

Dan Rafael
  (1:10 PM)

It's called humor dope.

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

Tried for Mayweather-Ortiz tix again to see what was available and I randomly asked for two tickets in the $600 and was offered Section 209 Row E Seats 3 - 2.

Joe (NJ)

Biggest piece of crap, Haye's performance, or Valuev poop

Dan Rafael
  (1:13 PM)

And the new...

JonG (Queens)

Im a bit confused. All along Dan has said that he didnt think haye had much a chance against wlad, and predicted a dominant wlad performance, all while being bashed by the brits for underestimating haye blabla. so shouldnt dan be the one heckling the brits now? not the other way around? they are the delusional ones who have made themselves look dumb for 2 years ive come to these chats and all they cry about is haye this and that and dan hates haye and haye will KO wlad. you were all wrong. very wrong. get over it.

andrew F. (new york)

i dont understand, Tszyu gets in the hall of fame for beating washed up fighters and landing one punch against Judah but the guy who made him quit and retire is borderline? i dont think either guy belongs

Dan Rafael
  (1:16 PM)

Tszyu is an all-time great 140, period. To me, Tszyu was a slam dunk. Hatton is not a slam dunk. I don't think there is anything wrong with taking a hard look at the record when the time comes to vote. BUT Ricky probably will get in as I have said because he did have accomplishment to a degree and was really popular as well the fact that those who vote -- the writers -- liked him a lot and he did a lot for the sport because of his popularity.

Alan (South Africa)

So if George Foreman sells grillers, maybe David Haye could sell toe-sters!

Dan Rafael
  (1:16 PM)

Pay the man, Shirley.

Pancho (Los Mochis)

Hey Dan, whatever happened to those talented Puerto Rican Velasquez twins?

Dan Rafael
  (1:17 PM)

Not sure. There were some injuries and such, but no idea why they dont fight. I asked GB about it awhile ago and they didn't have a real answer for the inactivity.

Clark (Madison)

Dan, to your knowledge did Ricky Hatton ever "seriously" consider fighting again after his loss to Manny, or have offers for big fights in the past two years?

Dan Rafael
  (1:18 PM)

I think he really did seriously consider it but elected not to do it.

Todd (Queen City, NC)

Dan, Always thought highly of the talent of Jorge Linares, and believe he just got caught cold in the Salgado fight. Hooking up with Freddie Roach could put his career on a whole different plane. Like him better at 130, but even at 135, can't see him losing to a limited DeMarco, if the fight comes off. Your thoughts?

Dan Rafael
  (1:19 PM)

I pretty much agree with what you have said, but Linares has a notoriously poor chin from what I have heard about his gym work.

Horn (Vegas)

In this chat, we officialy deemed Haye as the "Ducker." Now that he had us believing he was going to actually fight to win, did he just collectively deem us as the SUCKER?

Dan Rafael
  (1:20 PM)

Never had me believing he would win.

Vinod (NYC)

Keep trying on the Mayweather tix. After a ton of failed attempts, I just landed two at the $300 level. $150s are likely gone, though.

Jake (Fresno, CA)

Dan, just bought tix to Guerrero/Maidana. Can't wait! FOTY candidate right?

al (denver)

so top rank would like to make matthyse/alvarado? that would be a hell of a fight! hopefully they get it done. we all know mike is tough, but that fight would definitely tell us what kind of chin he has.

Dan Rafael
  (1:21 PM)

That's a fight Carl Moretti of Top Rank said he would like to make. Doesn't mean it will happen. But it would be a good one wouldn't it?

Joel Julio (Colombia)

Papa - after watching WLad Haye last weekend. When Popo and Thunder have a little kitten, you can name him Toe-Toe....

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 PM)

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, the Love Child.

steven (louisville)

dan, any news on who will fight seth mitchell on hbo?

Dan Rafael
  (1:22 PM)

No opponent yet.

Andrew (Miami)

Okay lets stop acting as if Wladimir is in a class of his own to Haye. Haye still won 3 rounds, fighting poorly. 2 clearly. Round 1 and round 3. And round 12 on my cards. Haye has come closer than anyone has come for a long time to beat Wladimir. And he fought poorly. I say give the guy a rematch, he wasn't that bad. Takes 2 to fight....

Dan Rafael
  (1:23 PM)

I've heard the drugs are good in Miami, but I didn't know they were THAT good.

Cristian (Jersey City, NJ)

Did Lennox REALLY think Haye had a chance? I wouldn't have shown my face anywhere near Haye if I was him.

Dan Rafael
  (1:25 PM)

Lennox picked Wladimir to win. He said his head said Wlad even if his heart said Toe.

Dustin (Maine)

About to go mow the lawn even though #mytoehurts. Freak status?

Dan Rafael
  (1:25 PM)

Denied.

Dex ((San Diego))

Is Paul Williams still with the same training team? I was hoping he'd make a change. He's obviously regressed somewhat over the past few fights.

Dan Rafael
  (1:26 PM)

Yes, same team as always.

Michael (Long Beach, CA)

Drugs pretty good in Miami, Andrew? What fight were you watching? None of the rounds were clear cut for Haye. Maybe the 3rd, but does not a rematch make.

Michael (Long Beach, CA)

Shane clearly won the 2nd round against Floyd. What the hell, give him a rematch....not.

Duff (Boston, MA)

"Takes 2 to fight"And Haye was the 1 that did not show any desire to fight at all.

steven (louisville)

do you think ramos will beat shimoda this weekend?

Dan Rafael
  (1:30 PM)

It's an interesting fight. I've seen Shimoda in his title win from January and he fought very well. I'm really not sure what to make of this fight, but I will go with Ramos based on the fact that it's hard for fighters to win on the road and coming all the way from Japan has to be tough. But I really don't know. Ramos is a talented kid, Shimoda looks like he's pretty good too. Really don't know how to handicap it. Flip a coint, but if I have to pick, I'll take Ramos.

Andrew (Providence)

I'm sure the soccer fans appreciated Haye's performance: lots of running, lots of flopping on the ground, and absolutely no scoring.

Dan Rafael
  (1:31 PM)

Pay the man, Shirley!

Lasers (Mpls, MN)

Dan, could you fight with a broken toe? Don't question the man's pain tolerance...

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 PM)

Sniffle, sniffle.

Justin (Seattle)

I understand that you stubbed your toe a couple of weeks ago so I believe the Freaks will understand if there are problems during the chat. #justajoke #mytoehurts

Charles (DFW)

Doesn't matter if Ramos beats Shimoda. Rigondeaux stomps them both.

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 PM)

Well he will be the mandatory for the winner, so we will find out.

cody (montana)

jeter 2 hits away!

Dan Rafael
  (1:32 PM)

YES!

Jim (Santa Monica)

Good to see George Foreman last weekend. The 3 punches he threw in combination in front of the camera last week was 2 more than the longest combination punch number from Haye.

Randy (NYC)

I'm not a fan of Haye at all... or Wlad really... but I actually thought Haye had a chance to beat or knockout Wlad had he pressed the action and fought like, well, a fighter. He blew it

Tony (Tampa)

Dan, John Duddy needs to get some love. He did an excellent job with the in the ring interviews with the Sturm-Macklin fight. Will he back on the EPIX broadcast team?

Dan Rafael
  (1:34 PM)

I thought John did a good job too, but I am not sure his status is as far as future Epix shows. I do know I will be back for their future shows and am looking forward to it.

Joe (RI)

I think Haye's Toe exuse was made up. He just decided that "Bruised Toe" sounded better than "Yeast Infection"

Dan Rafael
  (1:35 PM)

LOL!

Charles (DFW)

At the risk of banishment, I have never been much of a Yankees fan. But Jeter is one of the true gentlemen of baseball in the past 30 years, and I can't think of anyone who deserves to get to 3000 more than him.

Dan Rafael
  (1:36 PM)

Nobody deserves to get 3,000. You get 3,000 because you are a great player. I will say that Jeter is a true genttleman. I covered him as a minor leaguer and he is as classy today as he was back then.

English Grimace (England)

Dan we Brits despise you for harassing our heavyweight hopefuls, but we commend you for your great article on Hatton. BTW what is next for our boy Cleverly?

Dan Rafael
  (1:37 PM)

I dont harass your heavyweights, or any British fighter, or any for that matter. I keep it real and give my opinion, which I am paid to do. I like Cleverly and would like to see him fight some of the top guys in the division. But I am not sure specifically what is next for him.

Kevin (Boston)

David Haye is a warrior. Have you ever stubbed your toe before? It hurts man.

Geovany (San Diego)

Hey Dan, I've been a freak for over 6 years, I've attended many small venue boxing matches but never anything big. Just bought my ticket for Mayweather-Ortiz and am very excited....I just hope at $300 ticket will give me a good view...

Dan Rafael
  (1:38 PM)

Cool. MGM has good lines everywhere plus big screens. Enjoy.

pappijuan (socal)

Rex Ryan wants know how Haye is doing he seems to be concerned for some reason.

Cole (Payson(UT))

A friend and I were on ticketmaster right as Mayweather v Ortiz tickets went on sale, and my wife was calling the 800 number, and none of us got tickets. Shows that boxing is far from dead. Also makes me wonder how many tickets are really made available to the public for big fights.

Roman (Atlanta)

Between "The Ducker" and "Toe-gate", David Haye really is the gift of boxing comedy that keeps on giving.

Crazy Larry (Boston)

LOVED the Wladimir youtube.com link where he doesn?t say a word, just holds up pictures. His reaction is priceless.

Eric (Omaha)

Dan - Do you think Floyd-Ortiz will do a better PPV number than Manny-JMM?

Dan Rafael
  (1:41 PM)

Probably, yes.

James (Los Angeles)

Hey Dan, when you mentioned in the Notebook today if promoters can't make a deal, it will go to purse bid. What does purse bid mean?

Dan Rafael
  (1:45 PM)

If they dont make a deal on a mandatory fight the santioning body orders a purse bid and any registered promoter with that organization can bid on the fight. Highest bid wins the right to promote the bout with their winning bid being divided between the fighters as their purse. There are rules on how the money is divided.

Joe (NJ)

Do you like Toe-matoes?

Dan Rafael
  (1:45 PM)

I'll tell you toe-night.

Dan Rafael
  (1:45 PM)

By the way, I will be doing a segment on the news of the week for Friday Night Fights tonight.

thom de hamer (groningen, the netherlands)

Hey Dan, do you have any news from eddie chambers

Dan Rafael
  (1:46 PM)

He is supposed to fight Tony Thompson in August, possibly on FNF, in an IBF eliminator for No. 1.

Louis (Montreal)

Bute's promoter Jean Bedard said in a Montreal newspaper that they were looking at Atlantic City for the Pavlik, even if it means taking a pay cut for Bute. It's part of a plan to showcase Bute more in the US

Dan Rafael
  (1:46 PM)

Sounds good to me.

Victor (Salt Lake City, UT)

I got the cheap tickets. WOO HOO!!!!I'M GOING!!!

Cristian (Jersey City, NJ)

I know the klitchkos have all the major titles.. but how many other titles are there in the heavyweight division?

Dan Rafael
  (1:49 PM)

Who cares? We know who the champ is.

Tom E (Lambertville, NJ)

Haye was the betting favorite in the UK. What does that tell you about how mental the fans are over there?

Dan Rafael
  (1:50 PM)

They bet with their heart not their head.

colin (ft lauderdale)

dan ...can you give us a few detailed reason why williams is such an overwhelming favourite instead of just saying he will"take care of busines"

Dan Rafael
  (1:51 PM)

I dont know what the odds are, but I think his size, experience, his length and punch output will be factors against Lara, who is obviously good, but a little lazy in the ring, not a big puncher and not a very busy puncher. I just think matched up, Williams is the better fighter at this stage of their careers. However, the wild card is how will Williams look coming off a huge knockout loss. We wont know until the fight. I will be at the fight tomorrow night.

Moses (Warner Robins, GA)

For tomorrows fights, which one you watching live and which one you DVR'ing?

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 PM)

Ill be watching Williams-Lara live because I will be there and I will watch Rios-Antillon when I get home on Sunday afternoon.

Tom (VA)

Any news on a site for Andre Ward vs. Carl Froch?

Dan Rafael
  (1:52 PM)

Not yet.

@TheBoxingEmpire (Twitter)

DanToe Inferno: Need your picks for the other fights - Lara vs Williams, Cintron vs Molina

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 PM)

Williams and Cintron.

EnglishGrimace (England)

With all the fighters seriously injured in the sport of boxing, how can you pick on poor David Haye for fighting with a serious injury? Do you need more guys paralyzed before you change your mind?

Dan Rafael
  (1:53 PM)

A bum pinky toe IS NOT A SERIOUS INJURY! Unreal. And if it was THAT bad dude shouldn't have fought. That's on him, not us.

Tommy (Detroit)

You say toe-mato, Haye says Toe-moto.

Lee (Los Angeles, CA)

Since you're now great buddies with @danawhite, will you be attending any UFC events in the near future?

Dan Rafael
  (1:54 PM)

Wasnt planning on it, but one of these days I may go in person just to see what it's like even though I have watched on TV a few times.

Richie (Bronx NY)

To EnglishGrimaceFighters have fought with broken HANDS!!!!!!!!!!

Dan Rafael
  (1:55 PM)

And jaws and noses and torn biceps (Larry Holmes) and all kinds of more serious injuries than a damn toe -- a litle toe at that.

Tommy (Detroit)

But did he really need to have his boot off right after the fight to show everyone?

Dan Rafael
  (1:56 PM)

That was ridiculous and, frankly, pathetic. Funny thing is it didn't look more than a little swollen.

Choco (New Jersey)

Any chance you can avoid finding out the result of Rios - Antillion before you get home?

Dan Rafael
  (1:56 PM)

No chance. I will know the result.

JonG (Queens)

cmon grimace dnt lie to yourself now. a pinky toe dude?? even if it was SERIOUS injury its not the injury that we are people are bashing its the way haye has used it as an excuse....walking in the pres conf with his shoe off already cmonnnnnnnnnn

Ivan (Winton (CA))

DTH have you heard anything on who Timothy Bradley's next possible opponents could be?? Thanks

Dan Rafael
  (1:57 PM)

Gary Shaw. In court.

Jeff (OH)

You say toe-mato, Haye says OW MY TOE HURTS!

kelly (SD)

"this little piggy went to market.... This little piggy went home... This little piggy had roast beef... This little piggy had none.... And this little piggy cried WWWWWAAAAAA all the way back to England..."

Blake (Portland, OR)

D$$, I stubbed my toe. I think I need to stop working and follow the chat the rest of the day. Approve?

Dan Rafael
  (1:59 PM)

No. First I need to see a photo of said toe.

Charles (DFW)

Another fight that would be interesting at 140 is Humberto Soto and Erik Morales, or after Pac-JMM III, Soto and Marquez. Your thoughts?

Dan Rafael
  (2:00 PM)

Would be a good fight, I agree. Doubt it happens, but would be good.

Sam (Santa Monica)

I really dislike Darchinyan, but he makes pretty good fights. Is he lining up his next opponent or is he waiting for the bantamweight tournament to finish first?

Dan Rafael
  (2:00 PM)

Nothing scheduled at the moment.

david (korea)

regret calling david haye a dog?

Dan Rafael
  (2:01 PM)

Why would I regret the truth?

Joe (NY)

Let's play Stump King Freak. Who played Officer Carl Winslow on the hit sitcom Family Matters?

Dan Rafael
  (2:01 PM)

These are my readers.

mike (costa rica)

dan will the gamboa fight be at the boardwalk hall ??

Dan Rafael
  (2:02 PM)

Yes, that is where it will be, upstairs in the smaller room, according to Top Rank.

Joe (PA)

Do you think HBO would buy a Wladimir vs Derek Chisora fight?

Dan Rafael
  (2:06 PM)

Not sure. As always depends on the price for one thing.

Dan Rafael
  (2:08 PM)

If you missed it, here's my story on Ricky Hatton's retirement: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=6747122 #theresonly1rickyhatton

R! (Bay Area)

Who's Seth Mitchell suppose to fight on the Maidana-Guerrero under card?

TheBiggestFreakOfThemAll (Clifton Park, NY)

LOL Rafaeling with the stars. I blew up a picture of David Haye's toes after the fight and have it hanging in my office with your Tweets about it. Freak status?

Dan Rafael
  (2:11 PM)

No, but a shame you are from my hometown.

Bree (LA)

If Ricky Hatton was in Back to the Future and bumped into his younger self, how many Ricky Hatton's would there be?

Dan Rafael
  (2:12 PM)

One -- in each time dimension.

Matt (Naperville, IL)

Anything mentioned for George Groves' next opponent?

Dan Rafael
  (2:12 PM)

Haven't heard anything actually.

Anthony (Bronx, NY)

Dan, you ever think of moving to the big apple?

Dan Rafael
  (2:13 PM)

Would all depend wouldn't it?

Dennis (Pittsburgh)

Will we ever hear from Winky Wright again? (I know, I know, Who?)

Dan Rafael
  (2:14 PM)

I actually emailed with his main adviser the other day and he mentioned Winky was still hoping to fight on a Golden Boy PPV undercard, although there is nothing in the works.

Paul B (NY, NY)

DTM- Was your experience on Epix the first time you have called a fight? How was the overall experience and would you like to do more of it?

Dan Rafael
  (2:16 PM)

It was my first time actually calling a fight and it was a great experience. I will be doing more of it because I have a deal with Epix to continue doing their future fights.

Clay (Chattanooga)

DTM - what are your thoughts on Cintron contending @ Welterweight? I know he had an apparent quit job against PWill, but how does he stack up in the Welterweight division?

Dan Rafael
  (2:17 PM)

If Kermit can make 147, which he says he can do and plans to do for his next fight after this weekend, he can do damage. Kermit is a physically gifted and powerful fighter. The questions have never been about his ability or power. The questions have been about his head and heart.

Todd (Queen City, NC)

Dan, what are your thoughts on the young Finnish heavyweight Robert Helenius?

Dan Rafael
  (2:18 PM)

Excellent rising contender who scored an impressive knockout of Peter. I'd like to see a little more of him before I put him into the top 10. Some folks have gotten way carried away about the one win over Peter.

Richie (Bronx NY)

Dan,What do you think of Mayweather vs. Martinez at 154..

Dan Rafael
  (2:19 PM)

I'd love to see it.

David (Houston)

Why would Bradley be fighting Shaw in court? I thought his contract just expired...

Dan Rafael
  (2:20 PM)

That is what the Bradley side says. Shaw says Bradley still owes him a fight and is suing Bradley or plans to sue Bradley.

Alan (South Africa)

I remember when Tommy Hearns broke his hand on Marvins cast iron head. He never mentioned a thing to the press and never went to get it checked out either, as he didn't want to take the moment away from Marvin. Now that's a tough guy and a classy loser. Now compare that to Haye taking his shoe off immediately after the fight and complaining about a boo- boo on his toe. He's a disgrace and anybody who makes excuses for him is delusional.

Matt (Denver)

Hey, Dan, I just wanted to throw my Ricky Hatton thoughts out there. I watched a fair bit of boxing when i was a kid in the 90's. For some reason, I stopped watching. I was flipping channels and came across a fight and decided to watch for a few moments. Then, I saw a body shot that made my body ache. It was Hatton/Castillo, and I was hooked on boxing again. Thanks for the memories, Ricky. I'm eternally grateful!

Matthew (NY)

Any word on the Lee-Vera rematch?

Dan Rafael
  (2:22 PM)

That's the likely fight for Oct. 1 under Martinez-Barker.

Rags (NYC)

Is Haye's excuse one of the lamest in your experience of covering boxing?

Dan Rafael
  (2:23 PM)

Not one of them. THE lamest.

Todd (Queen City, NC)

Dan, any interest in Tarver-Green down under?

Dan Rafael
  (2:24 PM)

I am mildly interested.

Fred (CT)

Did you ever read KO Magazine? That was my favorite back in the 80s/90s. They always had a poster in the middle.

Dan Rafael
  (2:25 PM)

Always used to read it and have tons of old copies in my office along with a huge collection of vintage Ring mags from the 1920s through the 1980s.

Jimmy (Arlington, Va)

Any chance HBO changes its mind and somehow comes up with the money to put Hopkins vs Dawson on regular HBO?

Dan Rafael
  (2:26 PM)

No, unless something radically changes.

rich (cape cod)

Wlad's you tube video is Fantoestic!!!!

Ian (Wales)

Dan, your colleague Kieran Mulvaney wrote a sparkling piece on Ricky Hatton. Have to say you two birds are the best 1-2 combo in the boxing business. Did you read his piece?

Dan Rafael
  (2:28 PM)

I did read his column and it was excellent.

phillip (SD)

i have a comment on Hopkins_DAwson PPV wait for it...wait for it... LOL!!!!!!!

Dan Rafael
  (2:28 PM)

Pretty much.

Gerardo (AZ)

Dan...LOVE the Gamboa Vs. Ponce De Leon match up. How will that work if Adamek Vs. Klitschko is on HBO that day as well?

Dan Rafael
  (2:29 PM)

HBO will air Klitschko-Adamek live in the afternoon like it did with Klitschko-Haye. Then in the evening it will air a replay of Klitschko-Adamek with live coverage of Gamboa-Ponce De Leon.

Carlos Colon (Santa Isabel, PR)

Dan, I dare you, I challenge you: find/say something positive about Haye's performance...

Dan Rafael
  (2:30 PM)

I liked his ring entrance -- "Ain't toe stopping us now!"

Todd (Queen City, NC)

Dan, very excited about the upcoming Agbeko-Mares fight. I think Abner Mares could be a big star and potential opponent for Nonito. Agree?

Dan Rafael
  (2:30 PM)

Should be an outstanding fight. The winner against Donaire is obviously the best fight that can be made at 118.

RJ (MPLS)

Do you Adamek any kind of chance against Vitali?

Dan Rafael
  (2:31 PM)

Not really. I think it's another Klitschko wipeout.

James (Atlanta, GA)

They should cancel Berto's fight and put Hopkins on regular HBO.

Dan Rafael
  (2:32 PM)

I cant disagree, but the BHop-Dawson fight is a lot more expensive than Berto's.

Tomer (New York, NY)

I still remember Bernard Hopkins battering Antwun Echols into submission after getting a dislocated shoulder from a bodyslam. I'd suggest that's a significantly larger obstacle to overcome and yet decisively get the W than a freaking broken toe.

Dan Rafael
  (2:32 PM)

Agreed. I was at that Hopkins-Echols fight and it was an impressive display of heart from BHop.

Mike (Los Angeles)

I guess Haye is suffering from the "Agony-of-de-feet"!

Dan Rafael
  (2:33 PM)

Brilliant.

Jorge (East Los Angeles)

Dan, You had mentioned a few chats ago that HBO was trying to lock up a multi fight deal with Judah/Main Events to protect themselves in case Zab beat Khan. Any word on this?

Dan Rafael
  (2:34 PM)

Nothing yet. Still trying as far as I know.

Mario (Bell Gardens, CA)

Danaconda, Happy Friday! I was in Vegas and watched Wlad v. Haye at the hotel sportsbook, and I saw a group of Brits walk out before the decision was announced. Even THEY were disgusted.

Dan Rafael
  (2:36 PM)

They certainly had no reason to stay. They had no tickets to cash.

Dan Rafael
  (2:37 PM)

My piece on Williams-Lara is posted: http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/columns/story?columnist=rafael_dan&id=6749376

Mario (Bell Gardens, CA)

Got my ringside tickets for Rios v. Antillon. I think Antillon pulls off the upset via split decision.

Dan Rafael
  (2:39 PM)

Have great time. I don't see how that's not a good fight.

Gerardo (AZ)

Dan, tell the Phoenix-area freaks: Fighters and promoters are giving away tickets for tonight's FNF show to the first 1500 people that show up to the box office; no joke! I just got mine!

Karim (Los Angeles)

Dan, with respect, you can spin it however you want, but Hopkins-Dawson is NOT a PPV worthy fight! HBO should?ve balked rather than damage their brand with this stinkfest.

Dan Rafael
  (2:42 PM)

I agree with you. When did I ever say it was a PPV-worthy fight? I never did. It is on PPV strictly because HBO mismanaged its fourth-quarter budget.

Jimmy (Arlington, Va)

Hey Dan, do you think Gennady Golovkin has the best shot at beating Martinez, or is he still unproven?

Dan Rafael
  (2:44 PM)

Very unproven. He was a great amateur, but as a pro his best win came a couple of weeks ago in a life and death battle with a faded Kassim Ouma. Let him earn the fight by beating a couple of legit contenders first. Then bring it on, because he is fun to watch.

Roddie (Ohio)

True story I promise...Sunday morning my sister who is 8 hyears old said her finger hurts so bad that she couldn't do any chores...my mom told her to quit acting like David Haye

george (cheyenne)

how many undercards will HBO be showing tomorrow?

Dan Rafael
  (2:46 PM)

Two fights -- Williams-Lara and Shimoda-Ramos plus hili of Arreona-Ahunanya.

Horn (Vegas)

Well we all know now why Haye would not shake Wlad's hand. Obviously he could not properly plant his right foot to extend his hand.

julio (dfw)

Can Molina pull the upset on cintron?

Dan Rafael
  (2:47 PM)

Given Molina's style and recent track record, I would say he's a live underdog.

Joe (NJ)

Hope everybody had a Toe-rreifc week.

jsingh (iselin)

What do you think about about amir khan calling out floyd money mayweather

Dan Rafael
  (2:49 PM)

No surprise. Like every fighter, he wants the biggest payday.

Gary (Ft. Wayne, IN)

David Haye: he ducked Wlad before and DURING the fight. The Ducker lives! (RIP: toe)

Zippy (PH)

Dan, is it true that David Haye has moved to TOERONTO to escape his angry home fans?

bramdon (Houston tx)

Anu truth to sergio martinez next fight will be in houston?

Dan Rafael
  (2:50 PM)

No. It will be in AC. Houston was at one time possible.

Joe (NY)

Every fighter wants the biggest pay day? Povetkin certainly doesn't

Clay (Chattanooga)

DTM - great article on PWill. always been a big fan of the guy & i hope he truly can bounce back like he says he can against Lara. did he seem confident when you spoke with him?

Dan Rafael
  (2:52 PM)

Paul appears confident and I think he is. But who knows what will happen when he starts getting hit? I suspect he will be fine.

Annie (The Orphanage)

Toe-Morrow, Toe-Morrow, David Haye will fight ya, Toe-Morrow...

Mario Mungia (Corpus Christi, Texas)

Is there a televised undercard for Rios-Antillion?

Dan Rafael
  (2:54 PM)

Yes, Cintron-Molina. Also, at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT Top Rank will stream all of the off TV fights on its website, includling Korobov, Gesta and Mike Lee fights.

Paul (London)

Lee V Vera. Why is Lee going backwards?

Dan Rafael
  (2:55 PM)

Nothing wrong with going back to avenge a loss against a solid opponent who makes good tv fights. Nothing wrong with that at all. In fact, I look forward to the fight.

PeteNice (Philly)

Dan, is it true that Billy Ray Cyrus is doing a remix called "Achy Breaky Toe" for Haye?

Rich (UK)

Whats your favourite fight time snack?

Dan Rafael
  (2:55 PM)

Chee-toes?

Dan Rafael
  (2:56 PM)

Good times with Ricky Hatton in Vegas. http://twitpic.com/5mrgt1

Frank (San Diego)

Dan, I would like to thank the boxing gods for Marco Huck. I hope he can get some American support soon. Bring on the Cunningham rematch!

Dan Rafael
  (2:57 PM)

Would love to see a rematch. Huck is one of my favorite fighters to watch. Always in a good fight.

Bruce (Alexandria)

Will Haye be appearing in a remake of The Wizard of Oz? With his dog Toe-toe?

Kieran (Alexandria)

Love the Hatton pic. Sure had some fun covering his fights. I will never ever forget sitting in the media room on Friday, hearing the fans singing as they waited in line for hours and hours to get into the weigh-in.

Dan Rafael
  (3:00 PM)

Where's that band when we need 'em???

Dan Rafael
  (3:00 PM)

Where's that band when we need 'em???

Scott (Eagan, MN)

Haye HaikuHayemaker oh no-Boxing world laughs togather-Toe Toe Toe Toe Toe

Dan Rafael
  (3:01 PM)

Epic.

Terry Dunstan's Mouthpiece (?)

Where did I go?

Dan Rafael
  (3:02 PM)

Was that a sick KO from Afolabi on the Klitschko-Haye undercard or what? Awesome KO. Youtube it -- it's on there.

Jimmy (Arlington, Va)

Dan, read the article. Williams vs Martinez on pay per view? Is Goosen being serious, or did he have one too many before talking to you?

Dan Rafael
  (3:03 PM)

He was serious.

Andy (UK)

Nice to see the great articles on Hattons career, I thought fans have been far too harsh on him since his defeat to Pacquaio. He had a fine career and deserves massive respect

Dan Rafael
  (3:04 PM)

He did have a fine career, got the most out of limited ability that is for sure. Gave a lot of people a lot of thrills and entertainment. And when you look at the record he has two losses to the best two fighters in the world, both future Hall of Famers. Nothing to be ashamed of.

Mark (UK)

I hear Haye will be in the remakes of Toe-tal Recall, Command-toe, Ramb-toe, Toe-morrow never tries, i can keep going........

Ed (Portland OR)

Hayes performance last week will, like I said before, get him into the HOF's non participant catagory!!

Dan Rafael
  (3:05 PM)

Wow.

Dan Rafael
  (3:06 PM)

OK Fight Freaks thanks for chatting today. Hope you checked out the weekend fight features and the big notebook, blogs and news stories. And don't forget to follow me on Twitter @danrafaelespn. I'm headed to AC toe-morrow toe cover Williams-Lara and I will also be appearing on FNF toe-night. Should be a dynamite boxing weekend. Enjoy. Peace. (I made it through this chat even thought my pinky finger is killing me.)
