Gonna clean out a few of the early submissions. Will take live questions in 10 minutes. As always, appreciate you being here.
Overeem's out of the Grand Prix. Thoughts?
Highly disappointing. My excitement for the Grand Prix was largely rooted in eventually seeing a fight between Overeem and Fedor. Now, they are both out and a tournament that began back in February has little traction.
Melvin Guillard needs to fight Guida or the winner of Edgar-Maynard. He looks unstoppable. Agree?
Not sure he has a ton to gain by beating Joe Lauzon, but power to him for taking the fight. I am with you that Guillard looks largely unstoppable right now. And I share your anticipation of seeing him against the division's elite.
How do you get such great hair?
Dude, are you crazy? This stuff never stops growing! Can't keep it short enough. Thankfully, the beard comes in full, though. That's the only bright spot.
Did the SF GP go about how expected or better/worse than you expected?
It was an ambitious endeavor and a lot of us media types expressed our concerns. I think it has actually underwhelmed, relative to the expectations. Big Foot's win over Fedor was awesome, but the delay of the other two quarterfinals really hurt. And now The Reem is out.
Best PPV opportunity for UFC: Ortiz/Jones, Ortiz/Rampage, Rashad/Rampage, Rashad/Jones?
Good question. I think the Rashad-Jones fight would do the most PPV buys. Still unclear as to what the PPV appetite still is for Tito Ortiz at this stage of his career.
Chost; With the beard clearly here to stay. As it should be. You need to update your photographs.
Chost, Is Barnett now the odds on favorite to win the GP?
I think a lot of folks are backing Antonio 'Big Foot' Silva, who faces Daniel Cormier next. But I would say Barnett is the favorite, yes.
Penn-Condit what you want to see? Penn has a great chin and likes to bang. Sounds like a war
Absolutely. No complaints with that matchup whatsoever. Curious to see who will be next for Jon Fitch now.
I am having a hard time deciding if Tito taking this fight vs Evans was a good choice for him or not. Can you help persuade me one way or the other?
I think only time will tell. For fighters, it is vital to peak at the right time for a fight. Ortiz repeatedly mentioned that he peaked perfectly for Ryan Bader. Hard to envision, given the quick turnaround, that he'll be in optimal preparation mode for the Evans fight. We'll see. That said, Ortiz deserves credit for stepping up and bailing out the UFC in a tough spot.
Doesn't something inside you just want to scream, FEDOR IS BACK, I CAN'T BET AGAINST HIM !
When he lost to Fabricio Werdum, I went and bought the domain fedorlost.com. Then, he lost again and I got rid of it. I'm backing Hendo next weekend. I just don't believe Emelianenko's heart is in it any more. Seems like a reluctant fighter will be stepping into the cage on July 30.
High five if you're feeling alive!
High 5. And we're live...
Does Leben stand a chance against the world class wrestling of Munoz?
I don't think I'll pick him in the fight. But he certainly has a chance to knock Munoz out if he can keep the fight up.
What happens to Guillard if Lauzon chokes him out? He looked pretty impressive against GSot until he gassed in the 2nd round.
Joe Lauzon is a tremendous 5-minute fighter, but that has been an unfortunate pattern in his career. Strong starter, but is unable to sustain it. A Guillard loss to Lauzon would take him right out of the immediate title picture.
Who wins between Florian and Cavalcante?
K-Flo. Think I'm gonna pick him against Jose Aldo, too!
Chost, Daniel Cormier the right choice over Chad Griggs?
I think so. I didn't think DC got enough credit for his last performance. Even if you don't think all that highly of the opposition, Cormier looked like a completely different fighter to me.
Why Sanchez-Hughes? Seems to be no point to that fight
Any time a fighter like Diego Sanchez gets an opportunity to fight a legend like Matt Hughes, you jump on it. I think it's more relevant than you do. A chance for Hughes to try to put that B.J. Penn 0:21 knockout out of his mind and finish his UFC career on a high note. Diego really needs a win to maintain his spot in what is an increasingly competitive UFC welterweight division.
Tito loves his excuses and he has a perfect one if he loses to Evans. Sounds like a no lose to me.
...and he'll get another nice pay day. Doesn't have a whole lot to lose, you're right. But I think he would've liked to have soaked up the Bader win for a little bit longer. If Rashad finishes Tito, no one will be talking about Ortiz's submission win over Bader.
Does the recent rash of UFC injuries cause you to rethink your stance on how few times GSP fights a year? Never been pulled as far as I remembered.
I like the way you think, Chuck, but I'm not sure it changes my stance. GSP deserves credit for staying healthy during training camp/preparation. He is a master preparer. I still don't like champions fighting 2x/year when healthy. Before you know it, GSP will have retired. Like the question, Chuck.
Have you ever seen someone get inside of Jon Jones's head like Rampage did yesterday? He got Jones visibly angry during the staredown
Perhaps not. But getting inside Jones' head like that could actually prove to be a bad thing. Not sure Jones is a guy I'd be looking to give any source of extra ammunition. Great face-off between those two.
Tito ... Believer or Not? ... I think that if he continues to fight the way he did against Bader, that he might see that LHW strap again.
I don't believe he will get past Rashad Evans, nor would I give him more than a 1% chance against Jon Jones. But I've always been an Ortiz backer. Despite just one win since 2006, he has been competitive nearly every step of the way. I think the hard part now will be trying to maintain consistency. He was great against Bader. Now, it gets appreciably more difficult.
What can be done to prevent so many injuries?
Very little. MMA is as physical as it gets and you need to put your body through hell just to get ready for fight night. Don't have any solutions for you, Sal.
If Overeem is champ, why was he even in the GP?
At the time, the idea was to showcase him in the United States. At one point, it looked like we might see Overeem fight on U.S. soil 3x in 2011. And I'm sure you know his belt was never on the line, for whatever that is worth.
You upset about Rich Franklin getting pulled from UFC 133?
Always feel badly for a fighter who is winding down his grueling camp/diet, only to be yanked from the card. Hopefully Franklin can land on the Denver card in September.
What do you think of The Reem saying he wants to fight Klitchsko? Seems stupid to me.
I think Overeem would love to be the first man to be a major MMA champion, K-1 champion and boxing heavyweight champion. Of course, the problem with that is I don't give him much chance at all against Vitali. But I do like his ambition and fearlessness. I'd still prefer to just see him in the UFC.
I got to train with Joe Lauzon a bit back in 2007 in Boston. Dude is a beast on the ground . . . chances he contends for the lightweight belt in the next couple years?
Certainly a talent on the ground. Just a tough division in which to make a run right now. He's gotta beat Melvin Guillard and then we'll talk.
Amir or Zab, who ya got?
Jon, Cung Le is making noises about fighting in the ufc at MW, too small/too short? Any thoughts?
Don't have much interest in Cung Le. Nice guy, gifted striker, but hugely limited in terms of overall game and MMA experience. And he's not young. Just doesn't seem to be as passionate about competing as a fighter as you'd like.
How's Bonnar's knee doing? You think he'd be willing to take a fight with Franklin?
He would JUMP at the opportunity to face Rich Franklin and might even accelerate his rehab in order to make it happen. There was no way he could've fought on August 6th. But Rich Franklin is close to the top of Bonnar's opponent wish list right now. And if you've read our chats, we've loved that matchup for months.
How do you see Daniel Cormier's career playing out? Will he ever be a top contender?
Got a late start, but he's got the drive. I'm excited to see what he can do with the opportunity against Big Foot. If he gets a win there, he becomes a top contender.
Give us the MMA Live Scoop for this week.
A lot of irons in the fire. Likely to have interviews with Dana White and Dan Henderson, as well as a guest to be named later. We'll also have Kenny Florian back in Bristol to discuss his October 8 title fight against featherweight champion Jose Aldo.
Better for UFC? Rampage or Jones win?
Man. You got me good with that one, Sonny. First instinct was to say Rampage, b/c he could then fight Rashad again or even rematch Jon Jones. But the UFC is so heavily invested in Jones and from a mainstream standpoint, he has a chance to do great, unprecedented things for MMA. So I guess I'll say Jones. Great question.
What's your favorite fight that's coming up? I'm really excited for Cerrone-Oliveira and Henderson-Jim Miller
My answer to this question, for months, has been Ben Henderson v. Jim Miller. Not changing my tune now, but the next handful of UFC cards are absolutely loaded.
chost - love the chat. Do you think the disappointment of the strike force tourney may actually mean we see ufc v strike force fights sooner?
Thanks, Dipper. I don't think Overeem's exit from the SF tourney is inexorably linked to future crossover fights. I really think Strikeforce will eventually be folded. Just unsure of the timeline. I'd love to see all of the heavyweight talent under one roof.
Lil JA is coming along real quick. Has it set in yet?
Anxious as hell, man. Wife is due August 2nd and is wicked restless. Can't wait, though.
What do you think about the All Balls Brawl video?
Have yet to view it. Please don't tell Kenny.
How do you see Rashad vs Tito playing out?
I think it could get bloody for Tito. I think much of the fight hinges upon how Ortiz handles the quick turnaround. Ortiz could surprise and turn it into a 15-minute, back-and-forth brawl. Rashad is ready and raring and I think he'll finish Ortiz via ground-and-pound late.
I think it is pretty clear Dana cant wait to fold SF like origami. Just waiting for the sand to run out on the Showtime contract hourglass
How many training tips are you giving Florian for his upcoming match?
Tons. He comes right to me for training tips every week. Never asks me about how to get better on TV, though. He's a natural there.
Are you impressed by my performance?
When you fight, absolutely.
good luck to you and your wife, very happy for you.. rob and I will miss you at 133, if you look at the 133 card what fight stands out to you as possibly being the fight of the night?
Good to hear from you, big John. I think Yoshihiro Akiyama will be in desperation mode. Has a UFC fighter ever needed a win as badly as that guy? On the other side, Vitor Belfort is steaming after Anderson Silva re-arranged his mug. So I think that fight could exceed expectations and earn some bonus cake.
Dana White generally does a good job of knowing what fans want. Yet he's completely missing the boat on 5 round non-title fights?
I feel as though the public is mixed on 5-round non-title fights. Clearly, a lot of fans were sick of the frequency of draws and questionable decisions, so the UFC reacted. As you know, I am very much against it and don't understand why a fight like Leben-Munoz is worthy of 5 rounds. Gonna be interesting to see how this is handled long-term.
Any advice for my first UFC event Aug 14?
Get there early. Soak it in. Try to see all 11 fights, if you can. There is no better live show in sports than the UFC and I trust Milwaukee will blow it out for its first look at the Octagon.
What will you play for Lil JA's entrance music?
I downloaded Bob Marley for Babies yesterday.
Caught me off guard on the treadmill this morning when Bob Marley for Babies interrupted my K-Flo hardcore rap.
Jon is it worth the trip up to Moheghan Sun from the great city of Lexington to check out Bellator 48?
Absolutely, unequivocally yes. Bellator has worked hard on its live, in-arena show and the fight card is pretty good, too. I'd go for sure.
Which fighter is the biggest lady killer on MMALive: Kenny, Rashad, Miguel, or Stephan?
My wife used to be smitten with Rashad. Miguel might have the most potential, but that dude has less of a filter than I do. Gets him in trouble.
any chance you could get Joe silva on the show? Would love to hear him talk about the match making process
Joe Silva really doesn't do too many interviews and I think we all understand why. It's a good thought, though, and one that I will throw out to our esteemed producers.
Showtime doesnt have a 10-15 boxing date. Since 9-10 has a title fight, couldnt the GP Semis be held then? 10-15 goes h2h so to speak with Hopkins/Dawson HBOPPV.
I think I finally need to hire you as @jonanikassistant.
worst division in mma?
For awhile, I thought the middleweight division lacked oomph. That has changed over the last 6-12 months with the emergence of Brian Stann, Mark Munoz, Chael Sonnen, Jason Miller signing with the UFC, etc. I still think, if we are talking about the UFC, that the heavyweight division is top-heavy but weak overall.
Can you critique this long term parlay? Hendo -> Roger Gracie -> Vitor Belfort -> Rashad Evans -> Shogun Rua -> Anderson Silva
Hendo at +185 certainly helps the payout. Probably gonna take Forrest Griffin over Shogun, though.
Is this actually a paying job?
TBD. Depends what type of monies you are looking for. Always appreciate your forward thinking, friend.
In your honest opinion, what is next for Alistair Overeem?
Good question from South Dakota. I believe he will put his SF belt on the line and fight the winner of the heavyweight Grand Prix.
Who will be the next guy to win titles in two weight classes?
Bellator's Joe Warren has the best shot, b/c he's their 145 lbs. champion and will compete in their 135 lbs. tournament. In the UFC, I don't think we will see it anytime soon. Anderson Silva might be the answer, but I'm not sure he wants much to do with Jon Jones right now.
Will they do Reem-Fedor if Fedor beats Hendo?
Possibly. But I really think Fedor's heart isn't in it anymore. Hope to be wrong there, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him retire, win or lose on July 30.
your leaning Forrest over Shogun? Can you explain that one?
Fresher fighter. And he's got a good size advantage and the confidence of beating him once before. It's a tough fight to pick, but that's the direction in which I'm leaning right now.
What's next for Fitch? AKA fight with him and Kos?
Fitch-Koscheck won't happen, unless the UFC throws stupid money at those guys. I'd like to see Fitch fight the Ellenberger-Shields winner.
UFC has stated it's coming out with a big announcement today....any ideas what it is?
As far as I've been told, Dana White doesn't have any appearances on any of ESPN's TV platforms today. Perhaps the announcement was just that the UFC was headed back to the UK for UFC 138. I know that news broke yesterday.
How much do you think Brock's absence will affect the UFC's bottom line this year? Without Brock 131 did about 1/3 of the PPV buys of a Lesnar headlined PPV.
Overall, Lesnar's absence has resulted in a hit and the overall PPV numbers will be down from 2010. But the UFC made a lot of money before Brock's arrival and will make plenty once he retires.
Simple fix for the judging problems - have all scores posted after each round. Then the fighters know the score and the crowd knows which judge is batty..
I've been very anti-open scoring in boxing. But in MMA, especially in 3-round fights, I think the idea has some merit.
Have you heard any news on Marquardt signing with Bellator?
Yes. And no, Nate Marquardt will not be signing with Bellator. CEO Bjorn Rebney doesn't believe it's the right fit, right now.
Did you see CMPunk win the title?
No. But for the first time since the early 1990s, I almost ordered a wrestling PPV.
Please tell me MMA live will be on location at UFC 136 in Houston! You guys are overdue!!!!
Wish I could! We haven't traveled since Super Bowl weekend. UNCLE!
Why anti-open scoring for boxing?
Just didn't really see the fruits.
Who do you believe Rashad honestly dislikes more, Rampage or Jones?
Jon Jones. Without question, at this point.
Besides you which ESPN anchor is the biggest MMA fan?
Not really sure. A number of ESPN personalities are fringe fans and will ask me about it. But very few of them actually order UFC PPVs. Doug Gottlieb is always good for some MMA banter and Michelle Beadle stays informed. SVP has been very supportive, but he's not a fan, per se. With Josh Elliott now at ABC, I don't have a good answer to this question.
Aside from you, who is the can't miss chat of the week?
Probably my longtime friend, Ryen Russillo. Talk about telling it like it is. Dude is not in the chat room to make friends.
Re:open scoring. Because if its R9 of a title fight and its announced that Fighter B needs a KO in a close fight to win, Fighter A will use the de la Hoya defense (see:DLH/Tito)
Open scoring for boxing allows a fighter ahead on the cards to coast after building a lead
Open scoring would have helped in the Lara-Williams fight. They could have replaced the judges after 6 rounds.
I hadn't watched wrestling in a while and that CM Punk Cena Match was EPIC
Do you think Sonnen will have the 'nads to trash talk Stann? Or do you think he'll let his MMA skills do the talking for this one?
So curious to see how Sonnen will approach the pre-fight stuff with Brian Stann, who is literally the hardest guy to poke at on the UFC roster. It's not about the stones, though. Sonnen is fearless and, if he can find an angle, he'll dive right in.
Marc (Malden, MA) FTW!!
Judah or Khan?
Who is Chael Sonnen?
Rampage wanted an answer to that question, too.
Is Gareth A Davis the MMA pundit with the coolest hair??
Indeed. He needs some competition, though.
what do you think of david ortiz with the fight did he do the right thing
Yes. Only thing he did wrong had to do with his boxing fundamentals. When you get challenged like that, you gotta go on the offensive. War Big Papi.
Stuart Scott trains Muay Thai with Jay Glazer
Yes, he does. And Stu and I have gone back and forth about MMA quite a bit on Twitter. But regrettably, I've never met the man.
Any idea whats on tap for the Live this week?
Addressed earlier in chat. Likely interviews with Dana and Hendo.
If Kenflo fails to win this Championship, will he consider retirement?
I don't think he is quite there yet. But I don't believe he will fight more than 3-4 more times. He has a lot of opportunities in front of him when he does decide he's had enough.
if forrest beats shogun will he be 1 fight away for a title shot
Maybe not that close. But 2-3.
are you still not giving rampgae much of a shot against jon jones
Do you get tired of answering the same questions every week? Sometimes multiple times in a chat.
Comes with the territory. I don't want dudes to think I'm ignoring their questions, but I'd encourage everyone to start reading off the top.
Dang. My chat skimming game is not on point today :(
Tighten up, dude. :)
KenFlo going to have to do the same weight-cut again for the Aldo fight? Seemes like he went through hell to make weight for the Nunes scrap
Yes. K-Flo will have to stare death in the face at least once more. And this time, he won't have that 1 lb. allowance because it's a title fight. Only advantage for cut #2 is that he's done it before and will be starting camp healthy and at a lower weight. Still feel for the guy.
Ever think Fitch will fight for a title again?
Do you get tired of answering the same questions every week? Sometimes multiple times in a chat.
Thankfully, I'm wicked patient.
Jason (IA) - that was damn funny. But would rather keep my job than post it...
any news on the silva st.pierre match up?? is it really going to happen?? please answer
At this point, I'd say there is less than a 25% chance we see Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre fight before one of them retires. Too bad, too. Even though perhaps it has lost some steam and a lot of fans now want to see Silva v. Jon Jones, I still want to see the two greatest champions of the last several years go at it.
how much do mma fighters make per bout?
Huge range there. Some make north of $1M, when you take PPV points into account. Others make less than $10K. Kind of like the difference b/w me and Florian's take on MMA Live.
If/when Kenny beats Aldo, how many more weight cuts does he have at 145lb to defend the title?
I've already suggested that he retire in the cage as UFC featherweight champion. But he will try to defend the belt at least once. That much I can guarantee you.
how much do espn commentators make per year?
Not really sure. Huge range, I'd imagine, not unlike the fighters.
UFC Fight Night 25 sat then Saints/Bears sun! I got 2 tickets, interested?
Would love to come join you, Robert. Unfortunately, I can't travel too much w/ the kid on the way and I've got twin brother's wedding 9/4 in Los Angeles. Thanks much, though. And enjoy...
Chost, what up kid? I read somewhere that the UFC was making a big announcement today, Any Idea?
What's up, kid? Dana White isn't scheduled to be on ESPN today. Expecting to have him on MMA Live, though. We air Friday at 11ET on ESPN2, or immediately following Friday Night Fights.
Been a while, but I read the wraps. I would love to see a Tito vs Rampage match. They used to train together, the lead up, and personality conflict would be great. Your thoughts?
Definitely would be a cool preamble for that one and I'd actually like to see the fight, too. Amazing that Tito is all of a sudden in the mix now.
Do you foresee a UFC 'lockout' ever happening?
Nope. There is no union.
i will be ordering the next 5ppvs about 300 bucks, what fight do you believe is best on the ufc 136 card
Stann-Sonnen. Also hard to go wrong with Edgar-Maynard III, given what we saw on New Year's Day.
Kind of a raw deal for UK fans when it comes to UFC events compared to the States and when you look at Brazil or Abu Dabhi
My Twitter feed is littered with messages from upset UK fans. Some are appreciative that the UFC is headed back there, but the majority of fans want to see the stars and don't consider Munoz and Leben in that class. Hopefully the card will get an addition or two that helps the cause.
JA, where'd you go to school? You ever train in a martial art?
Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. I trained in boxing for about a year, but that was a few years ago. At some point, I will take some Muay Thai classes. BJJ is a tougher sell for me, but I know it would help me do this job immeasurably.
Thoughts on Pettis vs. Stephens?
No easy fights in the UFC.
bobby lashley next brock lesnar?
Most definitely not.
stann vs sonnen who wins and how
Get back to me in October. If I was betting the fight, I'd take the underdog (Stann).
You gonna watch my boxing fight?
I don't think so. Perhaps.
Got to disagree with you on tito....i like his chance against Rashad. He beat him once (i know it was a draw because of point deduction), rashad coming off huge layoff, tito is fresh and took no damage in the bader fight.
You are not alone, Peter. And the points you bring up are good ones. But even though Ortiz didn't fight long or sustain any damage against Bader, he still had to get up for the fight, mentally and physically prepare, etc. If you like Tito so much, find a sportsbook and get paid.
Your favorite MMA publication(s)?
Fighter's Only and FIGHT! Magazine are both great. I'm sure there are many others I'm leaving out (UFC, TapouT, etc.).
whos the man to dethrone anderson silva
Not Yushin Okami.
At least UK fans DID get someone most people know, in NO all we have is Shields and most casual fans don't even know him
And yet so many other cities never get UFC shows. Let's not forget that some of the best shows we've ever seen are some of the ones with the least name recognition. The UFC is only getting bigger and better. Might be doing a show every week at some point. So just relax, y'all.
Think fat boy will drop any weight before he fight me?
Doubtful. Although, he's kinda had his job threatened, so perhaps.
Who comes out in the Pyle vs MacDonald match?
Great fight there. K-Flo thinks MacDonald is a future UFC champion, so I think that's probably the safer play. But I've been a Mike Pyle fan for years and nothing fazes that dude. Hate predictions.
what u think of Mitrione's future? and fight vs kongo?
I think it's the perfect test at this time for Matt Mitrione. He is such a breath of fresh air and very realistic about where he is at this stage of his career. I think the ceiling is high and we've seen improvement every time out.
I'm not complaining, just saying. Some of the best fights on a card are from guys most people don't know.
And I hear ya. All my peeps in Boston are dying for the UFC to come back. They just can't go everywhere every year with a huge PPV.
When are you going to get Sonnen in studio again?
Good question. Wish we had the coin to get Sonnen and Stann there together.
I don't want to see Cro Cop lose anymore. I have to go back and watch the 2006 Pride GP every time.
should i just retire?
I don't believe you will ever get your belt back. But, if you can get medical clearance, there is something very special about the nights on which you fight in the Octagon.
You hate predictions?? You gotta like them a little or you wouldn't be such a successful gambler...
Just don't like going public with picks. I know a lot of these fighters on a personal level and don't love when it gets back to them.
I'm a proponent for passing a general quiz for males to get UFC tickets. This way we can eliminate (to a degree) unecessary booing and "Put him in a bodybag) shouts. Agree/disagree. All women are welcome.
Hahahahaha. I would love to rid some of these UFC crowds of the untimely booing. But I'm also all about new fans being exposed to the product.
Answer my questions Spandik!
See, you wasted one. First question I've seen from you today.
Billy Walker is a successful gambler. Jon Anik gambles socially.
Best fight coming up? July? August? September?
Still in love with this Ben Henderson-Jim Miller clash. Also think Fedor-Hendo will have a very special feel.
Chost loves Brock, always has and always will. So do I and so does the casual MMA fan
Do you worry that Kenny or Bonnar might not laugh at one of your jokes and get angry at you?
I would just like one of them to crack a joke at my expense for once. Sick of doing all the heavy lifting. Bonnar is a little frightening, sometimes.
Here to announce matchup between Anik's beard vs. Rogan's beard. Winner gets tabbed sexiest man alive
Jon, don't you believe Brock has the fire to fight for the title ( and win it ) I see him as a motivated and driven guy, even with the medical issues...
I agree with what you say, but I think some doubt has crept in, given what happened against Velasquez and even Carwin. You couple that doubt with the severity of his medical condition and I think we may have seen the last of the big man. As always, hope to be wrong.
How about some 3am chats when you are on baby-won't-sleep-duty?
I'm sure I will be all over Twitter. You guys can hit me up on there any time of day and I will do my best to get back to you in good time. Handle is @Jon_Anik. I've also been known to give a follow back to our loyal ESPN.com chatters.
3 min rounds? more action and less staling. thoughts?
Don't love it, Keoki. I like that you're thinking outside the box, but 3 minutes seems awfully quick for MMA. If a fight hits the ground, there goes 33% of the round.
How come Rachel (MMAHotStuff) never graces your chats anymore?
On to bigger and better things, I guess. I'm thankful you are still with us. We also used to have some 'Snacks' regular.
Anik has called a lot of the fights since I've been watching/chatting!
You tell 'em, Ken.
Thank you for the chat as always. There is no better way to kill an hour on a work day.
My absolute pleasure. The typing may get tedious, but I love interacting with you cats. Seriously remains one of the highlights of my week.
As always hope to be wrong? Nothing new there with your predictions.
Hope to be wrong on Lesnar. Did you have any questions today or just a few shots, kid?
Yeah, let's get that going on Twitter.
Regarding GSP fighting twice a year: The problem for me is that GSP may very well go down as the greatest MMA fighter of all time and is in his prime right now. Despite that, look how few questions you are getting about him in this chat. If he fought 3/4 times a year, we would never go through a chat without him being a major topic.
Good point. Almost never get asked about GSP. And too often those questions are about Under Armour, Gatorade, or him not finishing opponents.
Please don't ever get carpal-tunnel syndrome.
Apparently Im your assistant so I cant go anywhere...
Recent rash of fighters pulling out of fights is directly related to the new UFC insurance, true or false?
False. I just think, overall, there is more at stake b/c the UFC's profile is enormous now. So, the days of fighting with a torn meniscus are over for most guys.
who do u think as a better defense, packers, ravens, or saints
What's GSP's greatest strength? Wrestling would be the common answer, but I believe he's one of the smartest guys in MMA. So I'd go with his intelligence. What do you think???
Intelligence and timing.
Hiya, Jon. Tour de France: toughest sporting event in the world?
2nd only to the NHL playoffs. And fighting in MMA, of course.
Appreciate your chats and knowledge, but I respectfully disagree with the Reem favor. Suspect growth, limited opposition, and now a David Haye toe, not a top ten guy in my book nor a loyal mma guy at that.
That is fair. You are certainly not alone in that camp. And his average win over Werdum didn't do anything to hurt your argument.
will forrest ever fight for the title again
I don't believe so.
Flip side to GSP: He's always been a clear favorite and it's hard to imagine other WWs beating him. Maybe that contributes to lack of GSP questions.
Could be part of it, Chuck.
For people complaining about the UFC not coming to their city...Chicago it the 3rd biggest market in the US and we had one...Silva-Cote. Ugh!
Hopefully you will go see Fedor-Hendo next weekend, Dan. I know it's not the UFC, but now at least the UFC's fingerprints are on the show.
Agree with Scott in Kentucky, RONNIE LOTT would have cut that toe off to play on Sunday!!
Do you think Sonnen was on the money when he said former Pride fighters can't win in America?
Perhaps there is some truth to that. But I think the better point is that a lot of the fighters he references are no longer in their primes or have a ton of hard MMA miles on their tires.
Alright, gotta hop on a poker call for tomorrow's WSOP recap. As for MMA Live, we are 11PM ET/8 PM PT this Friday night on ESPN2. Expected to be joined by Dan Henderson and UFC president Dana White. Any other questions or comments can be sent my way on Twitter- @Jon_Anik. Enjoy the day. R.I.P. Myra Kraft. Thoughts are with Robert Kraft and the New England Patriots family.
