Chat with David Newton

David Newton
  (1:59 PM)

Never chatted injured before, at least with an injury that affects my performance. Son almost took off the tip of a finger on my right hand playing racquetball. Sorry for any typos or slow typing ahead of time. Now fire away.

Kyle (NJ)

Is there any reason to stay optimistic for Dale Jr this season (win/chase)? Now 5 weeks, and now 5 reasons to prepare yourself for another let down this season.

David Newton
  (2:01 PM)

Congrats for beating Chris as the first questioner. On to Dale Jr., I wouldn't lose faith yet. He's had a rough stretch but most of them have been out of his control. When he starts to lose it on the radio is the time to panic.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Do you think that Danica Patrick will make her Sprint Cup Series Debut at the 55th Daytona 500?

David Newton
  (2:02 PM)

Probably. The plan is to run seven Cup races and a full NW schedule next year. No better place to start for Cup than Daytona.

chris (reedsville )

hey dauid the 43 finely got the cc change that they needed an what r u hearing about team red bull

David Newton
  (2:03 PM)

I do believe the 43 got an upgrade at crew chief. Not hearing much on Red Bull other than talks are ongoing and they remain optimistic.

jesse (iowa)

Newt My birthday is Friday and for my Birthday I want Austin Dillion to win the truck race at Nashville and the NFL lockout to be lifted. What are the chances i get my birthday gifts?

David Newton
  (2:03 PM)

I'd day better than 50-50. Have a Happy one.

Jay (Richmond, VA)

David, why did NASCAR take away a race from Atlanta for Kentucky? In my opinion, they should have taken away a race from New Hampshire, because not only is it a vastly smaller market for NASCAR than Atlanta, but Atlanta is a much more exciting track than NH.

David Newton
  (2:05 PM)

First, Atlanta has been struggling in attendance for some time. New Hampshire has been thriving, coming close to sellouts if not selling out. New Hampshire isn't such a small market either when you connect it to Boston. I like the racing at New Hampshire and am glad they didn't lose a race. Sorry Atlanta had to, but the numbers made it necessary.

Ben (Bakersfield, CA)

Hi Newt, If Edwards joins Joe Gibbs as Kyle's teammate do you think we will see Carl running some truck races for KBM?

David Newton
  (2:06 PM)

You never know. If we do, then will fans start complaining that Carl is stockpiling wins? Not sure this is a done deal, either, although I'm starting to think Carl is leaving.

Jen (Wilkes Barre, PA)

Hi David, If Carl signs with Gibbs, doesn't that pretty much guarantee Kyle Busch the 2011 Sprint Cup and undisputed team leadership at JGR? Thanks.

David Newton
  (2:07 PM)

It doesn't guarantee Kyle wins the title. There's still this guy named Jimmie Johnson and even Kevin Harvick, Jeff Gordon and Denny Hamlin that I'd be concerned with. But I do believe it would put a huge dent in Carl's efforts to win a title. Can't imagine him getting Jack's full support.

David (Delaware)

When kenseths contract is up for rfr do you see him retiring , start his own team, or another team pick him up

David Newton
  (2:08 PM)

There was a time many moons ago when speculation had it he would join Dale Jr. at DEI. Well, that's gone. Keneth is too young to retire. He'll likely stay with Roush.

Mark (Work)

I think hendrick should kick junior to the curb and pick up a young driver like logano he did that risk with gordon back in the day why not now

David Newton
  (2:09 PM)

That's not happening. They have most of the details worked out on an extension for Dale Jr. I can't see Gibbs throwing Logano to the curb and making him available even if Edwards is signed.

MD (dover)

2 Questions is the jr deal 3 or 5 years and 2 i heard the monster mile in delaware is thinking about lights and a night race anything about that or what would your opinion be thanks dave love your chats

David Newton
  (2:09 PM)

Hendrick said 3 to 5. I would guess five like the first one. Interessting on Dover. Have always said that would be a good venue for a night race. Will look into it.

jesse (iowa)

Newt i dont get why you are makeing such a big deal about kyle winning 100 NASCAR races. Lets look at his wins in each series: A whopping 49 in Nationwide, 29 in truck, only 22 in cup. those are not impressive numbers to me. i know he is a great driver but if Albert Pujols played in the major leagues along with the 3 minor league teams in the same year and he hit 350 home runs it wouldnt that great either. the pitchers arent as good in the minors as they are in the majors. Just like the competition isnt as good in the trucks and nationwide as it is in cup. also why praise him for this, he is stealing wins and expience from the younger drivers.

David Newton
  (2:11 PM)

First, the minors in baseball are different than racing. And I'm not making a big deal about the 100 as much as saying people need to lay off Kyle and make a big deal about him "stealing wins."

Jim, Butler, PA [via mobile]

With Jimmie Johnson at his lowest point in his carreer, is it likely that Johnson will lose the title? Who is most ready take on Johnson?

David Newton
  (2:11 PM)

I wouldn't say lowest of his career. Look at his numbers this time last year and the past five years compared to this year and there's not a big difference. Never overlook the 48.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Has there ever been a NASCAR Race Postponed due to extreme heat or dangerous Heat Index?

David Newton
  (2:12 PM)

Don't think so.

Rick (North Carolina)

It seems that alot of people have really been complaining about the amount of passing the last two weeks (lack thereof). Is this the product of goodyear having better tires? It seems like the races are becoming too strategic in the pits and taking the driver out of the equation on the racetrack.

David Newton
  (2:13 PM)

It's a product of the cars, with a little bit on the tires. Mostly the cars. You'll see a good bit of passing back in the pack, but it seems the car with clean air out front is tougher to pass. A lot of aerodynamics that I've explained in articles before if you want to google.

curtis (tulsa)

Don't you think that the competition Kyle Busch faces in the top 3 series today greater than the majority of the competition Richard Petty faced in the pre modern era? Richard Petty was racing at small town dirt tracks to the tune of 60 races a year. Just because they were sanctioned as "Cup" races should they still be viewed that way? Shouldn't people get over their personal feelings toward Kyle and recognize that 200 wins(if he gets there) in the top 3 is just as impressive today as Richards wins prior to the modern era?

David Newton
  (2:15 PM)

There are many races in which Kyle, in my opinion, faces better competition in Nationwide and Truck races than Petty faced. That being said, I don't think 200 wins in three series ever will be compared to 200 wins in one series. It just won't happen.

Steven (VA)

Do you notice that media members who previously would defend Dale Jr against criticism, have lost patience with his recent complaining about road courses, tandem racing and now Goodyear tires?

David Newton
  (2:15 PM)

Not really.

Ron (OH)

The Lance McGrew team at Hendrick is clearly their worst. This also explains some of JR's stuggles the previous 2 years. Is Lance gone from Hendrick after this year?

David Newton
  (2:16 PM)

He'll probably be re-assigned with Kenny Francis taking over as crew chief of the 5 with Kasey Kahne.

Ron (OH)

Good track race and attendance last week without the Cup guys. I guess they aren't needed.

David Newton
  (2:17 PM)

I've been saying the series can survive without the Cup guys. Just has to be positioned right. Maybe more stand-alone events at tracks where people appreciate the racing.

jack (phx, az)

What are your thoughts on JPM's new crew chief?

David Newton
  (2:17 PM)

Honestly, I don't think Brian Pattie was the problem. That say enough?

Adam Wald (Ann Arbor, MI)

I?m kind of surprised no one has really discussed the idea that maybe all this talk about Carl leaving for JGR is just a ploy by his camp as a bargaining chip to force Roush?s hand. Very common practice in other sports where players ?explore? free agency to drive up their position to cash in with their current teams. Maybe Carl does leave, but the rumors of him leaving only coerces Roush to up his offer to get Carl to stay.

David Newton
  (2:19 PM)

I don't think this is a bargaining chip. Carl was close to gone a few years ago before Aflac stepped up with a ton of money. The problem is Roush may not be able to raise enough funds this time to give Carl what he believes he is worth.

mike (AZ)

David, my question is about the whole dynamic of the free agent signing, in this case Carl Edwards. Carl, who is obviously an owners dream with his talent as well as the Danica type sponsor appeal, is basically holding the man who has given him the opportunity to be in this position hostage. I don't personally fault the guy for doing what's best for himself and his family, but in a sport that pushes "old school" so hard, why is this not frowned upon at all? I assume it is just the nature of the business side, which is why i haven't seen one writer call him on this. So, if this is considered ok, what does that make a guy like Kenseth? Kenseth was a big free agent the year Toyota came in, and i read where they offered a nice amount of money to him to be one of their first big names. Kenseth however decided to take less money and resign with the man who gave him the opportunity. So, does that make Matt one of the last few, true old school souls of the sport, or a sucker? Because in my eyes at least, old school principles and this contract greed currently present contradict one another. Thanks.

David Newton
  (2:20 PM)

I hear you. But Carl showed his loyalty to Jack Roush when he re-signed the last go around. If he leaves this time it's because JGR can offer more money and a legitimate shot to win the title. I wouldn't fault him for that.

Not Octo Troll (Boston)

If you knew today that only one of the following: Bowyer, Smoke, or Junior was making the chase, who would you go with?

David Newton
  (2:21 PM)

Smoke, but not real strong on that one.

jesse (iowa)

Golden Tate cant say hes an athlete. First off he plays for the Seattle Seahawks. They suck. Second of all he doesnt even start. OUCH!!! I give him props because he made it too the nfl something ill obviously never do but dude watch y'alls mouth or atleast know what the heck your talking bout before you open it. your thoughts?

David Newton
  (2:22 PM)

Hey, he was a two-sport star at Notre Dame. Saying he is not an athletes is as ridiculous as saying Johnson isn't.

Michael (Michigan)

Any thoughts on the Newman/Manion modified fiasco? I appreciate that Manion wants to give back to his roots, and I appreciate some pushing of the gray areas of the rule book, but this was blatant circumvention. That is not the way to give back.

David Newton
  (2:22 PM)

No big thoughts to be honest. Blatant or not, it happens.

Allan (TN)

David, do you believe Edwards when he says that he has not made up his mind yet? And even if he does stay with Roush Fenway, with him thinking about going somewhere else this early in his career, does that mean he will not spend all his days at Roush Fenway?

David Newton
  (2:24 PM)

If Carl doesn't go this time around he'll probably stay with Roush for the long haul. As for believing him, I believe he's struggling with the decision, which makes me believe he wants to pull the trigger and go.

Clint (Dallas,TX)

How do you think Pastrana will do at Indy Next Weekend. True its going to be a learning curve but he has Dominated everything he has touched. Any chance for a successful Nascar Career?

David Newton
  (2:25 PM)

He hasn't dominated in NASCAR yet. Too early to tell how he'll do, but it'll be fun to watch. I suspect Indy will be a struggle to be honest.

Tim (El Cajon, CA)

Golden Tate sure got it handed it to him by his ill-advised and incorrect tweet about drivers not being athletes. Love the part with Carl and the ESPN Sports Science Lab. Would love to see what a football player could do in the same situation.

David Newton
  (2:26 PM)

Carl is a step ahead of most in NASCAR when it comes to athletic ability. You're right, though, Golden learned that Nascar Nation can be pretty loud.

Andy (MD)

Does ESPN knows anything about what happened to Miss Sprint Cup, Paige Duke?

David Newton
  (2:27 PM)

Yep. She was fired over some "inappropriate" pictures taken during her freshman year at Clemson. Apparently there was a morality clause in her contract and when the pictures were put out there by an ex-boyfriend she was let go. Peronsally, I disagree with the decision.

Andy (MD)

What was Newman's take when he found out his modified car was illegal?

David Newton
  (2:28 PM)

Havne't seen his take yet.

Chris, TN [via mobile]

Would be curious to hear Brad Daughtry's take on Golden Tate's comments. Have you spoken to him about it?

David Newton
  (2:28 PM)

I haven't, but I suspect Brad would say drivers are athletes.

Adam Wald (Ann Arbor, MI)

Have another one for you. Is the firing of Brian Pattie surprising to you? Obviously, it's been a turbulent relationship at best. But with his best 3 races left on the schedule coming up the next 3 races, do you think making the change now was a bad decision or do you think it'll have a jump-start effect on the #42 team?

David Newton
  (2:29 PM)

I was a bit surprised. If there wasgoing to be a parting I would think it would have come after Indy last year. Sometimes there has to be change for the sake of change to shake things up. This might be one of those.

cody (IN) [via mobile]

does kahne make the chase and how is his outlaw driver joey doing?

David Newton
  (2:29 PM)

I don't see him making the Chase. Haven't seen an update on Joey other than what initially was reported.

Nikki (Orlando)

What is with all the media hate for Dale Jr lately? On Race Hub last night they tore him apart! When Dale gives HIS opinion, the media say he's whining, maybe he should stop talking to the media then there wouldn't be any Dale Jr quotes to twist around? Where are all the discussions and articles about Mark Martins performance this year or Biffle, Kahne, Bowyer? They praise other drivers for a few good runs and when they have bad weeks nothing is said or they say it's bad luck, but if Dale Jr has a few bad runs he's "medicore" and "should look in the mirror" about his bad finishes. How is getting caught up in someone elses wrecks his problem? Or a tire violation last week how can Dale Jr take the blame for that? I swear the media built him up the first part of the season just so they could tear him down at the first sign of trouble.

David Newton
  (2:31 PM)

I missed Race Hub, but can't find a reason to tear Junior apart. His recent slump has more to do with a few untimely wrecks not of his doing. As for the media hating him, that is far from the truth. Sometimes we have to be negative with our opinion, but that has nothing to do with what we think about the individual.

Nick Rolando (Orlando)

1. You think Edwards goes to Gibbs, if so Bowyer replace him?2. You like Erwin to the 43?

David Newton
  (2:32 PM)

I believe he's leaning toward Gibbs. Roush has some pretty good young drivers in his stable, so don't be surprised if they don't move up. As for Erwin, great move.

rich kent ohio [via mobile]

I think its time to pick a new favorite driver can't wait forever for jr to break threw I just don't think he wiil ever return to what he was. Any suggestions and don't say anyone from jgr I'm not jumping on kyles bandwagon and I really don't like hamlen

David Newton
  (2:33 PM)

Can't tell you who to pull for, but don't see any reason to jump off Junior's boat just because of a four-race slump. I know, it's really a three or four year slump. But let's see if he makes the Chase first.

pat (slinger wis ) [via mobile]

Will teams be able tweek their fuel setups with the fuel injection or is that something that is standard for all teams with no adjustments?

David Newton
  (2:34 PM)

I'm not educated enough on fuel injection yet to say exactly what they'll be able to do. I am told that it'll open the door for pushing the gray areas more. Don't think it'll impact setups.

Lucky (Glen St. Mary, FL)

Hey David - What's the latest on the Kyle Busch court appearance for the extreme speed penalty? It seems so hush, hush. Thanks! And have a blessed day!

David Newton
  (2:35 PM)

His court date was set for Wednesday, but that was just an administrative date. I need to check to see when the court date was set. I think you'll see him paired with Doug Herbert and the BRAKES program. He may already be working with that.

freewilly [via mobile]

I really enjoyed your article on Kyle Busch! Even though Im a Jr fan, I love watching Kyle and respect the guy for his maturity and his ability to wheel anything with 4 tires. Do you think he wins the title this year?

David Newton
  (2:36 PM)

Thanks. He was my pick before the season, so Ill stick with him. I like what I'm seeing so far.

Billy (Reno)

Newt, can you explain what happened to the 88 pit crew? I was there so I really didn't catch it.

David Newton
  (2:37 PM)

I wasn't there. Know Jimmie Johnson had an issue with a lugnut and Junior had the blown tire at the end, but don't think that was the fault of the pit crew.

Mark (Maine)

Jimmie Johnson has expressed frustration with his crew as of late do you believe there will be a major shakeup within the team such as replacing Chad Knaus

David Newton
  (2:38 PM)

Not at all. That team is second in points if you haven't noticed.

Taylor (VA)

Newt, awesome read today. There's a reason why we call it "motorsports." That's because it's a sport. An athlete must compete in order to be considered a sport. Tony Stewart seems to always be the guinea pig, but he isn't that fat. I can count on one hand the drivers that seem out of shape. Didn't Elliott Sadler play basketball at JMU? Oh yes, he must not be an athlete. He drives cars in circles. I hate this debate, it's absurd. The same people who call us rednecks for liking the sport are the same people to bash NASCAR and say that all you do is drive in circles & that drivers aren't athletes.

David Newton
  (2:39 PM)

It is an absurb debate in this day and time, but I'm afraid it'll linger for many years to come. Or at least until we educate the masses as I tried to do today. Thanks.

Bill (Indy)

Dale Jr. always looks exhausted after races, more so than most other drivers. Do you think poor fitness contributes to his mediocre performance?

David Newton
  (2:40 PM)

Yeah, other people ran into Dale Jr. because he was exhausted. Excuse the sarcasm. Is Dale Jr. in shape like Mark Martin and Jimmie Johnson? No. Could he be in better shape? Yes. Does his conditioning have anything to do with this slump? No.

Adam (Ripley, TN)

Have you heard anything more about Danica's decision? If she comes to NASCAR will she be with JR Motorsports?

David Newton
  (2:41 PM)

Still working through details, but she'll be in Nascar next year, JR Motorsports fulltime in Cup and seven Cup races likely . . . perhaps Stewart-Haas.

Bryan (PNW)

David - Do you think as I do that the release of Mike Shiplett @ RPM and the addition of Greg Erwin is likely to help AJ be more consistent and help the team keep up with adjustments as the race wears on?

David Newton
  (2:41 PM)

I do know that Greg Erwin is a highly-respected crew chief and that it's a plus for AJ to get him. Will their personalities mesh? That I can't say.

DebSantaAnaCA [via mobile]

By approx % who do you believe contributed, mostly, to the Kentucky traffic fiasco? State, Speedway, or The Promoter?

David Newton
  (2:43 PM)

Interesting. Can't really separate Speedway and Promoter, which I assume you mean Bruton Smith. I'll go 65 percent state and 45 percent Speedway.

Jack (Texas)

Has Dale Jr finished his negotiations with HMS and who is going to be the sponsor for the 88?

David Newton
  (2:43 PM)

All done except announcing it I am told. Amp will remain.

greg (louisiana)

hey man shld the joey logano fans b worried bout him having a ride nxt yr

David Newton
  (2:44 PM)

He'll have a ride with JGR I believe. They've invested too much to kick him to the road.

Blake (Delaware)

Where is Carl going??

David Newton
  (2:44 PM)

Indianapolis next week. Not sure where he is this week.

John Asheville, NC [via mobile]

Any word on Jr. Extension? Also is Dale loosing his confidence as a driver.

David Newton
  (2:45 PM)

Extension all but done. I don't believe he's losing his confidence. He's had good cars and had a few harsh things occur. He easily could have had top 10s in each of those races.

Larry (MI)

Hey Newt, As a Jr fan these last couple weeks have made me kind of nervous but I am not in panic mode yet. I feel like if Jr can get top 15's at Indy and the Glen he will be in good shape with the rest of the tracks before the chase. What do you think?

David Newton
  (2:45 PM)

Agree. But I believe Indy is a huge week for him.

clinton (SC)

What's the latest update on Cousin Carl's contract for next year? If you had to put money on it, where do you think he'll end up?

David Newton
  (2:46 PM)

I'm told something should be decided within a week. My gut says he's going to JGR, but my head say she should stay put.

Eric (Virginia)

David, I've been following the 42 team for a long time, and the addition of Brian Pattie seemed like what that team needed, and it allowed Montoya to greatly improve. He seems like he knows how to build fast racecars, but sometimes misses on late race calls. Do you feel like letting him go was the right thing to do, or is he being scapegoated for the lack of success that team has shown over the last few years? It seems like finding Montoya a crew chief who he can get along with isn't the easiest thing to do and at least Pattie seemed to put up with his unpredictable temperament.

David Newton
  (2:47 PM)

As I said earlier, I don't think Pattie was the problem. As I also said, sometimes you have to make change to shake things up and the best place to do that is with the crew chief. We'll see how this one works out.

Kyle (NY)

Which organization is the better place to work at JGR or RFR?

David Newton
  (2:48 PM)

Depends on your personality. Jack is a unique guy and very involved in the day to day show. Joe Gibbs has done a phenomenal job since leaving the NFL for NASCAR, a very personable, smart businessman. You just won't see him in the garage with a wrench like you do Carl. Tough call.

Potamkin (KS)

I don't know about anynone else...but I was impressed with the way Jr. drove from 30th to 15th after a potentially crushing penalty...it would be much worse right now if he had given up and finished 27th....Jr. is gonna be fine....this was the first time he had a CHANCE to recover from the adversity he has had the last 5 weeks...and i think he did awesome...GO 88!

David Newton
  (2:49 PM)

Can't argue with you.

Matthew (Columbia, NJ)

David, why did the 16 team take 4 tires on the final pit stop that put them back in the pack when they were running in the top 5 before the pit stop?

David Newton
  (2:50 PM)

I would guess they felt that gave them the best chance to win, thinking they had no chance on two. But in this day when track position is everything it is a puzzling move.

bryan (va)

WHat do you think about Greg Erwin to the 43?

David Newton
  (2:50 PM)

Love it. When he went to Biffle people compared him to Chad Knaus.

Brian (Woobridge, VA)

The 88 has got to start qualify better, plain and simple. In the 3 plate races they have an average starting position of 3.6 but in the other 16 races there average starting position of 24.6 with a best of 3rd at Dover but that was only because qualifying was rained out, so take that away and there best start is 15th at Michigan. If the 88 is going to win a race and make the chase then it has to start in qualifying, they can?t spend all day Sunday chasing track position.

David Newton
  (2:52 PM)

There is something to be said for that. Usually when you are fast off the truck you are fast in the race. That being said, Kevin Harvick hasn't qualified well and he's right there. Matt Kenseth never has been a great qualifier and I wouldn't count him out. I don't think it all comes down to qualifying, but I'm sure they are trying to improve in that area.

Rick (Jefferson City, MO)

How does Kyle Busch seem to focused on the racing and bounce back in spite of bad finishes, fights, speeding tickets etc. while Jr., Harvick, Boyer seem to let the frustrations build up and negatively impact their results?

David Newton
  (2:53 PM)

I don't think Jr, Harvick and Bowyer have let frustration impact them negatively, so really can't answer your question.

Alex (NC)

When is HMS going to wake up a get rid of Lance McGrew? He's ruining Marks final year at Hendrick. I thought last year it was just Jr being Jr but Mark can drive a car! There is no way he should be sitting 20th in the points.

David Newton
  (2:53 PM)

Maybe we'll see Kenny Francis join Hendrick for the final 10 races. He'll be the crew chief for the 5 next year.

dave (alabama)

When do you think Edwards will make his announcement?

David Newton
  (2:54 PM)

It wouldn't surprise me if it was at Indianapolis.

Gene (Ohio)

How is Jeff doing in Congo?

David Newton
  (2:54 PM)

Have read a few tweets, so I assume fine. Great trip. Should have tagged along.

Name (Current location)

Where do you type in the question?mmmmmm donuts.

David Newton
  (2:54 PM)

Funny.

Blake (Delaware)

What does the future look like for brian vickers, hes proven he can win but his finishes are not strong this year?

David Newton
  (2:55 PM)

I wouldn't say he's proven he can win. If he doesn't stick with the team that will formely be known as Red Bull then I don't see him getting a top ride.

Tracy (CT)

Um Jay NH has the NYC market and all of the northeast. I am so sick of people saying get rid of New Hampshire. We don't have much in the northeast and it's not a freaking cookie cutter!!!!

David Newton
  (2:56 PM)

Thank you.

Rob F (Hoboken, NJ)

People really don't understand how physically demanding racing can be unless you've driven around the track. I took four laps with a amateur driver at Dover going about 170 MPH and then drove 10 more myself at a disappointing 100 MPH (think I've done faster on the highway, heh). I'm in pretty good shape and was kind of shaking after I got out due to the toll the G-forces took on my body. I couldn't imagine doing that for real 36 times per year.

David Newton
  (2:56 PM)

You said it. Thanks.

Jimmy (STL)

Assuming Carl goes to JGR, does Clint resign with RCR or head to RFR?

David Newton
  (2:57 PM)

All depends on sponsorship, but I as I said earlier remember Jack has a few good young drivers and he likes to develop his own.

Dustin (Florida)

I've heard rumors that Red Bull will sponsor Clint Bowyer next year at RCR. Have you heard this? Also, I have heard UPS as a possible sponsor for him.

David Newton
  (2:58 PM)

I know RCR went after UPS before but couldn't get it away from Roush. As for Red Bull, I see it staying in the sport as a sponsor, but haven't heard anything on Bowyer at RCR.

Boss Hogg (Hazzard County)

Would Jeff Burton move back to the #99 if he had a chance based on his season so far this year?

David Newton
  (2:58 PM)

He just signed a new deal with RCR.

Den (NJ )

Hey David, Have you heard anything else on Gibbs giving up Nationwide Racing much like RCR did and handed over to KHI. I heard something where Gibbs would give up on Nationwide Racing and move it over to KBM. If that is true then it is possible to know that Game Stop and Sport Clips could be on the 4th Gibbs car with Logano. Have you heard anything on this?

David Newton
  (3:00 PM)

Haven't heard that exact scenario but it wouldn't surprise me if Kyle Busch and Gibbs worked out a partnership for Nationwide. The RCR-Harvick deal seems to be working.

zak kozak (parma ohio)

were do you put jeff gordon on the all time list of best drivers ever

David Newton
  (3:00 PM)

I'll go Pearson, Petty, Earnhardt, Johnson and then Gordon.

David Newton
  (3:01 PM)

That's it for me folks. Finger made it through somehow. Have a good off weekend from Cup. Can't wait to get to Indianpaolis and kick in ESPN's coverage of the show.
