Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:03 PM)

Hey kids, thanks for stopping by. As always, all subjects answered.

Rob (Frankfort, IL)

James Shields...OUCH!!!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:03 PM)

Clam down. You've more than made a profit on him this year. Not worried.

Rick (CA)

Donte Stallworth? Really, dude? Your 'Skins are terrible.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:04 PM)

(nods sadly)

David (Kansas)

What do you think of Haynesworth to the Pats?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:05 PM)

He'll probably do well in BB's no nonsense system. Bad fit for Washington.

Jordy Nelson (The Pack)

Think I'm going to make a fantasy impact this year, Matthew?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:06 PM)

Yes, though it'll be inconsistent as the Packers have so many weapons... it'll be tough to count on you in a week to week basis.

Brandon (Cincinnati)

For next year, Danny Espinosa or Dusint Ackley. Also, Stubbs or Rasmus in points league w/ -1 per strikeout.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:07 PM)

Espinosa... Think he'll out perform Ackley everywhere but avg. Probably still Stubbs.

Chris (NY)

Do you think it's getting too cute to draft Charles over the other 3 top RBs?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:09 PM)

Nope. He's not coming back to you and if you like him, get him. And if Thomas Jones' role goes down, JC could wind up #1 - he has that kind of talent

Kevin (Nashville)

Can't make the chat today, friggin dentist (thanks, wife). Lovin' Maybin and Jennings right now, but should i feel safe enough with them to trade away an extra outfielder before our league's deadline?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:10 PM)

I would not feel safe with either to deal depth. Good luck at the dentist

David (Kansas)

Hey

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:10 PM)

'Sup?

Peter (Raleigh)

I have the 5th pick in our football draft and I want to take Vick, but I'm scared s**tless to actually pull the trigger. Help me get through the fear.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:13 PM)

I wrote 13k words on this subject, dude

tyler (LA)

On set at greys anatomy who should i say sup to from you?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:14 PM)

Never seen the show. Pick a nurse.

mendel (fl)

You like the Bush to Miami in a reality standpoint? Who performs better, Bush or Thomas this season?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:15 PM)

Not terrible from a real life standpoint - maybe he can do some wildcat things in it - but hate it for fantasy. From turf to grass, explosive offense to middle of the road... eh.

Scott (Northlgenn, CO)

What do you think of Sid Rice with Tavaris and/or Jesus throwing him the ball? Lower WR2?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:17 PM)

Very low. Might not crack my top 20. Sea had only 14 passing touchdowns last year. 14. T Jax is not better than Hasselbeck.

Scott (Northlgenn, CO)

What's your vibe on the Indy WR situation? I too loved Pierre, and it's hard to quit him...is Collie a better option?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:20 PM)

I still like Pierre more. Feel he's their best bet for a deep option and Collie is such an injury risk.... but both should be solid

Michael (League in Crisis)

Hard Justice. Last year we had an owner resign in a 3-player keeper league on the league home page with confirmation. We then found a replacement owner and moved along. Then the team that quit had Vick return from injury and is now back in. Sine the other team joinined, and the commish allowed the quitting team to come back to the league, we had to add another team to have even teams. How would you handle the keeper situation? Please help our league MB, you are our only hope!!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:24 PM)

The new team is, in essence, an expansion team. I'd tell all previous existing teams to keep 3. Then 2 new teams should be allowed to draft 3 keepers each off the unprotected teams, going snake style. Previous Vick owner should NOT be allowed to keep Vick - he should be an expansion owner. He gave up rights when he bailed.

Stan (Merica )

Which Carolina back you got? Is it close?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:25 PM)

DAW. Not that close. Don't love anyone in that situation but Williams is the guy you want I feel...

Mike (NJ)

A healthy Cozart or an awful Furcal the rest if the way?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:25 PM)

Cozart if healthy

David Ross (Atlanta)

I Lost A-Rod, Now McCann!!! Soto, Salty or Ross to replace McCann???

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:26 PM)

I actually like what Salty has done recently

Xavier (Phoenix)

Rickie Weeks.. HELP!!!!!!!!!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:26 PM)

Jemile Weeks is the best of a fairly bad lot...

omar (Harrisburg PA)

Answer my Smurfin' question Berry. 14 tm 2 keeper league. 2rb 3wr no flex. Rank my potential keepers, Gore (1st), Forte (3rd), Maclin (5th)

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:27 PM)

Forte and Maclin. You'll get Gore or better back in the 1st

Joe (Toronto)

Blount and 5th rd pick worth my 3rd round pick? Keeper league and I would only lose a late round picks for him moving forward.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:28 PM)

Yeah, I'd do that deal.

Fantasy Smurf (NYC)

Thanks for the article today. I see you're not a fan of ZIMMERMANN, would you drop him for Vogelsong in a standard non keeper? And yes, somebody dropped Vogelsong!

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:28 PM)

I would, actually, yeah. Zimmerman's been brutal recently.

Larry Fitzgerald (Zona)

Kevin Kolb!!!! top 5 fantasy receiver now right?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:29 PM)

Yeah, gotta be top 5.

Sidney Rice (SEA)

Would I have been better off staying where I was?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:31 PM)

Definitely. McNabb is better than either T Jax or Whitehurst

Batman (Gotham City)

Cut Alexei for Bonifacio?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:31 PM)

No

Jake (Eden Prairie, MN)

Will Vick be the #1 overall player at the end of the season?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:32 PM)

Yes, I believe so

Aaron (FL)

Can you get separate twitter accounts for football and baseball?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:33 PM)

I've thought about that but I don't want to have to grow an account from scratch... I'll stop tweeting about baseball soon enough

Andrew (WI)

After listening to the Roddy White interview on the podcast (free plug for you!), you buying into the idea of Matt Ryan as a top-8 QB?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:34 PM)

I am not. Really enjoyed talking to Roddy but disagree with him on their offesnive potential. Good? Yes. "Greatest Show on Turf 2?" No.

Omar (Harrisburg)

The Cardinals RB with the most fantasy points at years end will be...

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:34 PM)

Ryan Williams

Brad (Cincy)

Where's Marshall rank if reunited with Orton instead of awful Henne?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:35 PM)

top 20 ish

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:35 PM)

Think Orton would also help Davone Bess a lot.

Steve (SF)

Why were you giving LoMo a hard time about not walking up to the theme song yet? Don't you still have a Jonas Bros video to make?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:36 PM)

(no response)

Nick (Michigan)

Which fantasy running back gig is the most impossible to predict from year to year: Arizona, New England, or Indianapolis?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:36 PM)

Colts then NE

Drew (NY)

Mr. Roto, who gets the better part of this deal, Worley for Victorino? thnx sir

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:37 PM)

As much as I like Worley, I say Victorino. Pitching easier to come by than offense

Jack (FL)

MB. first of all loved your love hate article 2nd. Drop Crisp for Reddick 10 team mixed roto?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:38 PM)

Thanks. Yes, I would.

Brian (Madison)

Daniel Thomas - Non-injury season projection?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:39 PM)

Assuming Ricky and Ronnie are gone, I'll say 1100 and 7 TD

Horton (Whoville)

Vick and Gates. Read the Manifesto. In a 12 team league, where do you want to draft to give you the best shot at getting these 2 guys (Vick in the 1st round and Gates in the 3rd)?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:39 PM)

1st

Jason (NY)

Who to drop, abreu, snider, thames in a keeper

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:40 PM)

Abreu

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Do you try to mitigate risk i.e. if you take Vick, don't take an injury prone RB like DMC? Or do you just go best player available?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:41 PM)

I'd probably err on the side of safe, but not go crazy about it. Injuries are so hard to predict. MJD was a rock until last year.

Steve Langford (New York, NY)

My tantalizing jingle aside, do you think I should have given Howard a chance to match the offer from the other place?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:41 PM)

Of course.

jonathan (nyc)

Tell me why L. McCoy shouldn't be the #2 overall pick after A. Foster in a PPR?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:42 PM)

I'm not sure I could. Rice has more of a track record and I know there are still MJD supporters, but I love McCoy this year.

Baseball Fans (Everywhere)

Its July. Quit pandering to the mouth-breathing morons who can't handle a fantasy sport that requires actual thought and attention. Fantasy football is terrible.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:42 PM)

It's about 10 times more popular. I play the hits, brother.

Andrew (Victoria BC)

Name Game! Colby Rasmus or Michael Brantley ROS?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:44 PM)

Hard to say since they do such different things. I really like Brantley but I'd probably say Rasmus

Kevin (NYC)

Every year my keeper league has lopsided deals at the trading deadline that causes a fuss that causes everyone to question the keeper format. What is your favorite format for keeper leagues (i.e. how players are kept, how many, how long, etc.)?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:46 PM)

I play "by the book" - the original Rotisserie League Baseball book. $260 ($280 in NL) salary cap. NL or AL only. 25 man rosters (26 in NL). Can keep up to 15.... We have an inseason salary cap to prevent too much dumping and our minor league draft (very valuable) order is set 6-12, 5-1. We pay places 1-5. So you're incentivized to play all year long and you can't do too many dump trades because of the in season cap.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:47 PM)

Can keep a player at current salary for 2 years and then have to extend him at $5 a year for up to 3 years or throw him back no matter what at the end of 3 years

Ben (Boston)

Is Moreno a keeper? Will he be clear cut starter since the Bronco's didn't grab DWill?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:47 PM)

Yes a keeper and could be in for a big year under Fox. My guess is DEN will still bring someone in but I like him as a #2 RB a lot.

Colby Rasmus (Toronto)

Would you trade Curtis Granderson for me and David Price?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:48 PM)

No. You're totally legit and having a ridculous year.

Dan (LA)

NFL frenzy packed on top of the MLB trade deadline. Is this sportswriter heaven or hell?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:48 PM)

Little of both

Anthony (Los Angeles)

John Hansen says he's a better fantasy football expert than you because you divide your time between football and baseball. What say you?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:57 PM)

Well, I've known John for a long time and that doesn't sound like something he'd say. If he did... he's entitled to his opinion. I don't get into comparing myself to anyone. I do what I do and hopefully more people dig it than not. Don't think there's such a thing as "this guy is better than that guy" - you find a guy (or woman) who does analysis you like and that's that. Everyone will get stuff right and wrong. There are many, many people who do good, strong fantasy analysis and John is among them. I respect John and not for nothing, he's in a different position than I am. He owns his own business and needs to differtiate himself from others with his expertise, so some "chest thumping" is necessary when you are a "mom and pop" site, as it were. Not saying he is doing that, but if he were, it's understandable. I had to do some of that when I was on my own. Now that I am working for ESPN, I have different goals and objectives...So if you are trying to start a feud, I'm sorry. I really like and respect 95% of the people who do fantasy analysis and the few that I don't like... I just leave them be and just try to do my thing. So far, it's working out ok.

Mike (Aggieville)

I hate tattle tales too! Pick two the ROS Vogelsong, Beachy, or Zimmermann, Pineda?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:58 PM)

Vogelsong and Beachy.

Ryan (Newport Beach)

I'm in a league that pays $25 to the team with the top rated batter and pitcher on the player rater. Currently I'm 8/10 and have no chance of winning money for the season. Would unloading my top players for Verlander be wrong?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:58 PM)

Absolutely not. You're trying to win in your league.

Ty (Alaska)

Name Game!Carly Foulkes or Current Mrs. Roto ...(pssh she is probably not reading this chat)

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (3:59 PM)

How do you know they're not the same person?

Alex (Erie, PA)

Is this the year that Mathews or Greene go crazy and cement themselves as top picks in fantasy football? Also is Ryan Grant a steal after the 5th round? I mean he's a starter this year no doubt?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:00 PM)

Crazy? No. But I do like both guys a lot as sort of "post hype sleepers." Ryan Grant is worth the gamble for sure, but no, not convinced he get majority of carries there. Starks will have a role.

Berry Island (Isle of Berry)

Can you please explain FAAB in an article or something so i can convince my fellow group members?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:01 PM)

Read my baseball draft day manifesto from the start of the year

Dave (NY)

Heyward or Rasmus ROS?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:01 PM)

Rasmus.

Chris (NY)

How many WRs would you rank ahead of Gates?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:04 PM)

Assuming there's no separate TE position... Five.... Andre, Roddy, Calvin, Nicks. Have Gates ahead of Fitz or Jennings.

Max (NJ)

Aren't you supposed to be funny?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:04 PM)

Am I? I always forget

John (NY)

how come no jokes this chat? We're not here for the analysis.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:04 PM)

I ask what's answered. Mostly serious today

Berislav (Phoenix)

Joe Saunders...Bona fide or Bonifacio?

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:06 PM)

Bonifacio. FIP is 4.84. Decent spot start if you dont need the K's and it's a good park, but nah. Not for ten team mix

Brad (Cincy)

Top 20ish with Orton? You must really hate him with Henne.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:08 PM)

Well, it would still be a new system for Orton, we haven't see what kind of shape Marshall is in and Marshall's off season was, well, eventful. It's still a fairly conservative offense.

Matthew Berry - The Talented Mr. Roto
  (4:08 PM)

Ok gang, I gotta run. Thanks for stopping by. I'll try to answer more questions this weekend on my facebook page: www.facebook.com/matthewberrytmr
