Hawks chat with Jesse Rogers

Jesse Rogers
  (2:03 PM)

Afternoon Hawks fans. Welcome to our sometimes weekly summer hawks chat. Once camp starts we'll go back to having one every week. Offseason is about over. August will be very slow then camp starts mid-september. Fire away with questions!

Erik (San Francisco, CA)

Last night I was watching the replays of Games 1/2 vs VAN on the NHL Network. While I don't think the play justified the contract and I applaud the move to shed the cap hit, Brian Campbell did provide a sense of calm on the blue line. And Campoli was fleet of foot, too. I'm a little uneasy that the hawks really didn't replace either one in terms of speed. So are the Hawks trying to sell the fans on the 'depth' of the blue line, in order to make up for the loss of 51/14? And how long will it be until Hawks fans are clamoring for Soup like they did for Ladd and Buff?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:06 PM)

Ive heard that kind of talk before and yes he was a good player but if providing a sense of calm is worth $7 mil I can be as calm as you want! Anyway, I dont disagree with you. I think the loss of both instead of just one hurts pretty bad. I think as sharp said at the convention, where they lose in one area they gain in another and that would be size and toughness (both physical and mental) so thats the answer more than anything...but still, speed is speed and they lost a lot.

Bobby B (Newport Beach, CA)

I keep hearing that all of our top prospects have a shot at cracking the lineup but after all of the veteran signings im having a very hard time figuring out where these spots will be? Which veterans are in danger of being released or will be playing in the AHL?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:08 PM)

Not sure where you are hearing that the top prospects other than Smith and Kruger have a shot? They dont. Hawks basically said forget about anyone from prospects camp this summer and as far as rockford only Morin really has a chance...now, John Scott could be moved or maybe O'Donnell just loses it or something like that so any of those guys--even Mayers--are candidates to be shipped or whatever if someone goes nuts in camp but dont count on it

JC (Irvine, CA)

JR! What do you see being the lines now to start the season? Can we expect Hammer to take more of a playmaking role or move Lepisto to top 4 Dmen? what are the Dmen pairings now?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:10 PM)

Ive answered this a couple of times about the forward lines in recent chats and/or mailbags so Ill give you the defense pairings..this is how the team sees it from what I understand unless Q breaks up 2 and 7 then all bets are off: keith/seabrook, Hjalmarsson/Leddy, Montador/Lepisto/Odonnell....

Matt (Cincinnati)

Jesse,In your mailbox you mentioned how the defensive depth guys are slower now. I can certainly appreciate depth for what it's worth, but shouldn't a slowdown of the guys who are playing about ten minutes a game not be that big of a deal?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:11 PM)

Not if they are exposed...O'Donnell and even Montador could cause problems...plus its not great that the 4th line will be slow but they can get away with that..look how quickly john scott was exposed..trade campbell/campoli for odonnel/montador/even lepisto and you are slower

Jeremy (Gurnee)

What are the chances the Hawks trade for Shane Doan mid-season? If the Coyotes struggle without Bryzgalov, could you see this happening since he is on the last year of his contract?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:13 PM)

Sure, if your scenario plays out. Dont know his longterm ambitions. Theyve done pretty well lately but that franchise could move..maybe he wants to leave, maybe he doesnt. Anyway, its exactly the type of money Stan says hes saving for in-season move. Ive always loved Doan so I'd say go for it. Interesting name for sure.

Sean Flynn (Phoenix)

There is a lot of talk that we are going to be slower and will have problems moving the puck defensively. Last year, we had a horrible record when we either had the lead or were tied going into the 3rd period...shouldn't we be a lot better at closing out games?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:15 PM)

I think thats the feeling because the Hawks brought in more mentally tough guys...I dont know what makes everyone tick but if there is a common theme about who left and who came..mental toughness comes to mind...so does losing or winning tight games..but then again 2 and 7 were on the ice a lot for those losses so its a combo thing..get rest and get mentally tougher...

Mike (IL)

Where do you see the Hawks finishing this year? 4th seed? Division winner? Struggling to get in?I think they'll take it to the Wings and take back the division with the moves they've made and the added rest.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:17 PM)

Very, very difficult to forecast..hard to know how these newcomers affect everything..HOWEVER, I do love the core with a sull summer of rest, a little embarassment over last season and a renewed hunger so forgetting the role players I see big years out of toews and company plus they have the goalie so tight race..top 5 seed works for me...

Allison (work)

So I heard you on Waddle and Silvy and read your blog. It seems that you were implying that the circumstances surrounding Kane's injury and his explanation were questionable or suspect. Do you have any support from a doctor that works with athletes that supports his account was questionable or were you just gossiping with Waddle and Silvy? Have to say didn't like that or the comparison to Boozer's "fallling over a bag" explanation. That's like saying that Q, Bowman, Kane, etc. all conspired to lie about an injury. Seems ridiculous to me.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:20 PM)

first of all when it comes to hiding "strange" injuries nothing is ridiculous. My only point (after having some fun with it) was I asked Q right after the season if anyone had played through anything in the playoffs because usually you hear about those things after the fact..no one said anything about Kane, for whatever that's worth..may have helped to understand why he was very avg in the vancouver series or maybe it wasnt sore enough then but got worse which is what it sounds like..but there is a reason there are media sessions and when someone is asked if there are any injuries and the answer is no and then one pops up months later there is no reason NOT to speculate a little. Im sure we're splititng hairs but Q had a chance to mention it and did not...and it happened at the end of the reg season..

Pat (Wheaton)

Where do you see Viktor Stalberg finding time (if he does) in the Hawks lineup?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:22 PM)

IM not sure where he fits except for some speed on the 4th line which wont have much..hes not a Q guy..more of stan/scotty guy which makes sense considering how quickly he was demoted from the top 6 every time he had a chance...so it will be 4th line and he did play ok there as the season wore on..

T K (San Diego)

Are we seeing a shift in team philosophy? The Hawks won the Cup with quick movement, sharp passes and great D. Now we seem to be seeing a slow moving, dump and chase team. Is this Q's plan or just a temporary change because of cap concerns?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:24 PM)

It seems temporary not because of the cap but more because they believe in some prospects who arent ready yet. But Q has had a hand in this for sure..too much? we'll see

Curt (Chicago)

What is the deal with Olesz? Should we just assume that he's not on the opening night roster?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:25 PM)

No idea what to assume..they have talked very ambiguously about him but have said they want to see him on the ice before making an assesment..I kind of believe that..injured and fresh start I think deserves a look but hes prob behind the eight ball a little, no doubt

Allison (Work)

So basically no. You were gossiping and you've essentially accused people of lying with no source to base it on? I've read accounts of similar injuries/circumstances from a trainer for football players. Unless you can find a doctor that supports your theory that it's a bunch of nonsense, I don't get it.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:27 PM)

I dont have a theory..I gave you a FACT..Q didnt mention the injury when asked about it..as for speculation..it was more fun than anything cause when you google the bone that was injured it specifically said "most commonly injured when trying to hold oneself up from falling." if we cant have fun with that then when can we!?!?

Tim (Oak Forest)

Is Kyle Beach now in the same spot that Jack Skille was? Too big of a contract to be brought up and destined to be traded (probably to Florida)?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:27 PM)

No. Not ready to play in the NHL

Ty (San Francisco)

Why not keep Campoli at $2.5M for one year? Also, Jesse I keep bringing this up but are we overpaying our players? Seabrook at over $6M when Stamkos signs for $7.5M and now Folik at $2.33 per season, when he probbaly deserved $1M, ouch.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:30 PM)

Its a good question about campoli..I would have paid Montador a little less and Frolik for sure a little less and kept campoli..I simply dont know the whole story except to say they must have slotted campoli in as No .6 or something and wanted to pay him accordingly..I cant believe what they gave Montador..Im writing a blog on some of this now and its interesting to see what other people felt of Montador to give him that much..should be done tonight...as for overpaying..its all about timing..you cant compare seabrook to stamkos, etc. diff teams, diff positions, diff cap situations...the hawks put a lot of stock in defense plus 2 and 7 bromance!

Annie (my cube)

I'm w/ Allison on this one -- any player other than Kane, and the surgery and injury wouldn't be news. It took one look at Kane to see that he was working out all summer. Having fun at Kane's expense perpetuates the image that he probably wants to distance himself from, because now no one will believe him if he gets sick or injured unless there's photographic proof.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:32 PM)

Last time..I believe him...I would have believed him easier if Q had answered the question honestly (which maybe in his mind he did cause they didnt think it was severe).

Eric (Los Angeles)

Is there any chance the Hawks could/would get rid of John Scott? With all the toughness we got in free agency, it just seems like we now have what he brought to the table before plus skill and so he is just taking up a roster spot.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:33 PM)

yes, I think there is a chance. Q likes him but the front office does not..they make the personell decisions and a cut or two has to be made so he could be gone..

Keith (Waupaca, WI)

Have you seen Marcus Kruger since last year? Any idea how much weight/muscle he put on during off-season training? I really liked his game when he came over, very responsible position wise and seemed to be on the puck a lot. If there was any knock on him it was that he needed to fill out his frame a bit.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:35 PM)

Saw him and talked with him at the convention. he has put some weight and muscle but I'm not quite sure how much (he mumbled it and I didnt understand!) anyway, he's the sleeper..he didnt show as much as he could. didnt have the puck. I believe him because he's SMART and as long as there is some talent there I'll take a smart player anyday..

Bob (Lyons IL)

Now that the hawks are more physical, they are going to more than likely take more penalties do you think that the penalty killing has gotten better from 26th last season?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:36 PM)

IF MOntador is everything they think he is than yes 2, 4, and 7 have to be better though..Ill say yes mostly cause they cant be worse

Jay (Chicago)

This is why women should not submit questions to hockey mailbags. You're mean, Jesse Rogers! How dare you?? Just..HOW..DARE..YOU??!! Say you're sorry to Patrick right now!

Jesse Rogers
  (2:38 PM)

Here we go. Its no big deal. I defend Kane all the time. Having some fun with that one was simply too easy..especially when the injury "commonly happnes from holding oneself up" cmon, thats a lay up but the kid loves hockey, is good at it, nice with fans and IM jealous of his lifestyle. :)

Paul (Chicago)

Jesse, do you beleive that the Hawks are in a better position to contend for a cup this year than they were last year, considering their potential to add a player or two at the deadline? Thanks.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:39 PM)

Ill go ahead and say yes by a small margin...rest for the core more than the additions is what gets me excited and yes a deadline deal for a legit player wouldnt hurt either

Annie (my cube)

Jay's right, I just watch for the cute guys!!111 What's icing? When's Niemi coming back? Sexist.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:39 PM)

This is getting fun.

Adam (Chicago)

I keep trying to understand the Montador contract. I still don't. What am I missing with this guy? And if a team needs a year to gel, and almost all the new guys are old and have deals for one year, what's the point? Another overhaul in a year? Confusing offseason for me.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:42 PM)

Im with ya. Again, I document some things in my blog coming up..for example another front office exec had him no higher than a 2 mil guy...NO HIGHER. that was the max..every team's situation is diff and one team's junk is another team's gold plus hes slotted as a No. 5 so I dont get it either..but they love him..less time to gel with this team..brought in veteran 4th line guys..shouldnt be as bad..kruger/smith had a cup of coffee..it was no rest COMBINED with the turnover so they will be better off this time around

Brad (LA)

Jesse, please answer my question, I've asked it a few times now. Why didn't the Hawks try to trade Campoli when they initially knew that they weren't going to get a deal done? At that point, they might have been able to get a mid-round pick for him, or even package him and a pick/prospect for a center. Instead they moved up the arbitration and walked away from the award. Even then, why not accept the $2.5M and try to get something for him?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:45 PM)

I cant answer the first part of the question...not sure..hopefully will find out more when Campoli signs..he and his agent have been quiet on it..Obviously they didnt think he was worth the 2.5 and didnt want to get stuck with the contract in case they couldnt move him..it is all weird and need to flush that one out..havent yet

Taylor (Loop )

With Soupy gone, who will take his role as point man on the power play?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:47 PM)

I imagine 2, 7, 10, and maybe 36 are the point people on the pp..maybe not 36...maybe leddy gets a little time...something like that

Jesse Rogers
  (2:47 PM)

I imagine 2, 7, 10, and maybe 36 are the point people on the pp..maybe not 36...maybe leddy gets a little time...something like that

Andrew (Calgary)

Lot's of chatter about the loss of speed on the back end. While no one will replace Campbell's speed immediately, Leddy is as good of a skater but is green. However, what about Lepisto, he seems like a clone of Campoli, only he was a little slower to develop. At 26, he's had two solid first seasons in the NHL and before that was a huge point producer in two seasons in the AHL. What is the word on Lepisto's ability to skate with the puck. From what I have read that is a strength to his game.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:49 PM)

Yeah, he's a mini version of Campoli in that respect but its not like Campoli was the greatest..he was decent..i mean lepisto is a nice little signing with the loss of campoli but he's not campoli so its something but they did take a hit in that dept

Addison (Hanover Park)

Any news on the Hawks picking up another solid face-off guy? They need another center that can win draws besides Toews. Sharp = about 50% last season I believeKruger = poor in his stintBolland = very poor for his career (the only real issue I have with him when he is on the ice)

Jesse Rogers
  (2:50 PM)

I have not heard anything since the beginning of free agency when Madden's name popped up...but nothing much since..they have zero interest in Ryan Johnson apparently so again a little thin there..maybe there is an august move to be made but they have plenty of contracts..need to shed one to bring one I would guess

JoeMan (Chicago)

More people should be concerned with the lack of depth at center. Bolly or Tazer go down, we're in trouble.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:51 PM)

Agree...though they will point to Sharp and Kruger of course and if they need him Frolik but none of them excite..they know they are deficient there and their answer is "its hard to get proficient at that position." they dont grow on trees I guess

Jesse Rogers
  (2:51 PM)

Agree...though they will point to Sharp and Kruger of course and if they need him Frolik but none of them excite..they know they are deficient there and their answer is "its hard to get proficient at that position." they dont grow on trees I guess

Kevin (Lincoln Park)

I know you like Sharp on the top line and winger but who do you see playing alongside Kane and Toews when Sharp is playing the 2nd line center? Could we see Ben Smith there?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:53 PM)

Tough call..depends..if they think Kane and Toews can get brunette skating better than he might fit in..if he slows them down than someone else jumps in..the left wingers are all interchangeable up and down the lineup it seems like, so yeah I could see smith getting a turn there..

Mark (Pasadena, CA)

At the risk of asking another question about Kane's injury: I read this article about scaphoid fractures: http://www.assh.org/Public/HandConditions/Pages/ScaphoidFractures.aspx. Here are some key excerpts: "Since there is no deformity, many people with this injury mistakenly assume that they have just sprained their wrist, leading to a delay in seeking evaluation. It is common for people who have fractured this bone to not become aware of it until months or years after the event.""Scaphoid fractures are most commonly diagnosed by x-rays of the wrist. However, when the fracture is not displaced, x-rays taken early (first week) may appear negative. A non-displaced scaphoid fracture could thus be incorrectly diagnosed as a ?sprain.? . . . An X-ray a couple of weeks later may then more clearly reveal the fracture."Obviously, I don't have any firsthand knowledge of what happened with 88, but doesn't the above seem consistent with his explanation?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:54 PM)

100 percent it does. thats why it was joking around on the radio and not being said as a report or anything...We are all on the same side!!!

Matt (Cincinnati)

I gotta say...with some of your analyses on who Q likes and who the front office likes, it sounds like a mismatch. Is everyone on the same page strategically?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:56 PM)

Some of this will be in my next blog but I would say they are not completely but i would also say its not uncommon for coaches to like certain guys and GM's to have some favorites so i dont make it out to be a big thing but there are favorites like any team..I think Scotty and Q are so entrenched in their ways though that if they are on opposite sides of a player thats the way it will stay

Phil (Carbondale)

What do you think Brunette's ceiling is? Also everyone is worried about taking more penalties, but guys like Carcillo can also draw some when they get under someone's skin.

Jesse Rogers
  (2:58 PM)

Im not going ot buck history..Brunette is a decade long 18-25 goal scorer..i dont see much higher or lower than that UNLESS their power play is just nuts and he cleans up in front of the net..true on carcillo but still they added a couple of guys that are in the box a lot so we'll see.

Billy (The Cell)

Who are the potential 3/4 line prospects the Hawks have coming up? I take your point that Burish and Eager brought toughness and speed versus just toughness from the veteran signings. Problem is, it seems that many of the guys I read about being almost ready or potentially ready (Makarov?, Morin, McNeil, Saad) aren't the kinds of guys that bring what Chicago wants in its fourth line. I guess Beach if he ever puts it together. Maybe Klinkhammer?

Jesse Rogers
  (2:59 PM)

Youre right about some of those guys..not 4th liners..(btw, kiss Makarov goodbye..he wont be back or not for long) beach is def one...i mean really you only need one, then a center and you find another...point being they signed those guys to one year deals not to be replaced by other 4th liners but just to give them roster flexibility again next summer..who knows how it plays out but at least they arent tied to mayers for 4 yrs.

Jack (Illinois)

Did you learn you lesson about saying anything negative about Kane? You can get away with it when it was Soupy, Huet, etc. but not Kane or Toews.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:00 PM)

HAHA. Guess not. Though I dont think I did! Hilarious

Paul (Chicago)

Hossa said in a CSN interview that his goals are to stay healthy and have a 30-40 goal season. While obviously health is the big key, do you still think that he has it in him to light the lamp almost 40 times?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:01 PM)

Health=close to 40? Maybe..Ill believe it when I see it. How about 30

christina (cubicle)

Even with the additions that were added this year, it still seems like they are missing the players that can bring the energy or cohesiveness - what do you think?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:03 PM)

No, I think Mayers is that guy..O'Donnell for sure..and of course the core..they are ok in that dept..as long as 19 is captain they will always be ok..now do i wish they had burish instead of any of them, yes but thats more from a hockey standpoint..in terms of intagibles these guys are ok I guess..like to see how carcillo does

Bryant (West Dundee)

I know they took a flier on Beach when they drafted him saying he needed some time to mature, but shouldn't he be getting some regular looks w/ the big club by now? Seems like we just went out and signed an entire line (4th) of guys to do what he was drafted to do...protect the talent and provide a little scoring.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:04 PM)

Simply not ready. From all indications he needs to learn more about the pro game and being a teammate and all those intangibles..but mostly on the ice..he can score some..he needs to still fig out the toughness part from what I understand

Allison (Work)

Q not mentioning a fracture at the time only means that they didn't know there was a fracture yet based on the x-ray they ran which from what i read is not uncommon with scaphoids (sometimes can take 3 x-rays and/or bone scans to find). What does that have to do with an athlete getting injured playing a sport? I thought you were a beat reporter not Waddle and Silvy so I thought you would take it more seriously. My mistake.

BK Lounge (Minneapolis)

He is the deal with Kane, people think he is a party animal so they assume that he hurt himself partying. I listened to that Waddle and Silvy broadcast that day and all Jesse basically said is that Q never mentioned the injury. Would he have been better saying Kane was a little banged up? Yes but people are blowing this out of proportion. Maybe really didn't want to mention it until he had to?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:05 PM)

This is like a talkshow right now..

Glenn (Denver)

Jesse, I think one of the major keys to this season is rest. After winning the cup, the team partied the entire summer and looked tired (losing many games in 3rd period). With the addition of toughness and rest, they should be much stronger than last season. Thoughts?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:06 PM)

You just summed up my entire preview this sept. Ill keep this paragraph. i agree.

Matt (Cincinnati)

So a year later, how would you rate the trades from the Purge of 2010?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:09 PM)

No one knew Buff would have the year he did so I cant argue with the Atl stuff (too much)...in fact most of it was ok for me. I was never the biggest versteeg fan and hes been traded twice since..barker for leddy wasnt part of the purge but was damn good...I simply didnt like Nimei leaving for nothing but other than that I didnt have a big problem with anything...morin looks like a good prospect and they did what they had to..

David (Park Ridge)

Is Jeremy Morin healthy now, and if so, will he make the jump to the big team?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:10 PM)

He is healthy but I think he's behind others due to the injury..smith and kruger have jobs to lose which leaves little room initially for another young guy..but I expect we will see him at some point

skip (aurora)

tired of seeing allison's 3 questions on kane posted when i submitted 2 questions and neither one has been answered

skip (aurora)

At what point will the Hawks finally find a center to work with Hossa on a consistent basis and not move him around differnet line combinations so much. Hossa even said at the end of the year that it was tough not playing with a consistent center the whole year. They seem to be wasting his talents by not giving him enough support on his line

Jesse Rogers
  (3:12 PM)

Trade deadline? Its a good question. I think they will start with Bolland there..he was doing well in offensive end before his concussion..problem is they will move him to 3rd line for playoffs so hossa will be stuck again..thats where sharp or a trade happens..but to answer your question, there is no answer right now

Cal (Freeport, Ill.)

They trade away Cambell and other Blackhawk players so that they can go out and sign all the new free agents. So how money do the Blackhawks have left to sign any free agents later in the up coming season.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:12 PM)

like 3 mil..might have more before its all said and done...by deadline, means they can get almost any rental, etc. within reason

Mike (Cedar Rapids)

After watching last season, I cringe at having Sharp play the point as he was really bad at it (really bad). Are they putting him there because no other D-men other than Keith and Seabrook can do it?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:14 PM)

I kind of disagree with you...they have a great back door play with sharp when he moves down..hes not really on the point when they set up the right way..its really a 1-2-2 with keith in the middle at the top...kane and sharp alonf the halfboards and toews down low...then sharp sneaks in..i think he has a good shot if he needs it so I think he stays there..I mean he had like 15 pp goals or something so why change?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:15 PM)

that was a 1-2-1...forgot kopecky or someone lurking in front..it will be brunette this yr i imagine

Alex (Houston)

Do the hawks have to get rid of someone on there roster before september cause they have 24 players on it or can they just send some down to rockford?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:16 PM)

Something will happen...trade, rockford, maybe kruger doesnt make it though I think he will or injuries but it doesnt have to be sept...just october..

Dave (Chicago)

If you had to pick 1 player on this team to surprise everyone this season, who will it be, and why?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:18 PM)

Hmm...Some might say the light went on for Frolik..Ill say Ben Smith and i could totally be wrong but his willingess to do some dirty things and play in tough areas doesnt seem like something that would be a fluke so Ill go with him...And i would imagine Hammer is dying to get more than 10 points so maybe he surprises with some offense in the same way he surprised with none not last year

Janice (Naperville)

Aside from the brutal Feb. Ice Capades road trip (and possibly the circus trip), do you have any other parts of the schedule highlighted for any particular reason?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:20 PM)

Not really. Like you say, aside from that it isnt as bad as last year..It "feels" better if that makes sense but from an opponents standpoint I never get into this is a rough stretch or anything..heck, colorado beat them 3 times and other non-playoff teams gave them problems..but that 9 game trip is brutal

Dave (Chicago)

Do you see Frolik ever appearing above the 3rd line in the future? Seems like he could be an effective scorer, but I don't know if he can grow up and stop lobbing pucks at net from the blue line.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:21 PM)

I dont think there is room in the top 6 right now..but sure he has a chance to grow into something..this year I see him right back on the 3rd line

Peter (Rockford)

Jesse,2 years in a row Stan gets burned by putting RFA signings on the back burner. Last year he gets stuck paying Hammer possibly double what he could have signed him for. Now this year, by going out and getting/overpaying a guy like Montador first, he drives Campoli's value way up. When does Stan learn to take care of RFAs ASAP? Why is he so comfortable waiting? No doubt this team is going to miss Campoli this year...

Jesse Rogers
  (3:24 PM)

Its a great question..Ive talked about and written abot it before..and dont forget he got nothing for a stanley cup winning goalie who was an RFA...I think he kind of thinks traditionally in the NHL RFA's are easy to deal with..rarely do they leave thier teams, etc. but this is 2 yrs in a row...one offer sheet, 2 RFA's walk for nothing..even the staunchest Bowman supporter would say those are mistakes...And to be honest I asked him point blank at the that resturant opening at O'Hare if he learned from Niemi and wanted to avoid same fate for campoli...all he said were "diff situations." true, but same result

Bob (Lyons )

I thought that Bickell Bolland Frolik line when they all played together was the best line in the Vancouver series. Do you think they will stay together for a while or is Q the line juggler going to split them up right away?

Jesse Rogers
  (3:25 PM)

I dont think they will to start the season..Bickell is another one I dont see as a Q guy..again, soft in some way..when I say soft, that could be mental, physical, whatever...but who knows how things unfold..thats the beauty of it..could the three be there for playoffs again? sure/

George (Indiana)

What do you see happening IF Olesz impresses and makes the team? Since he's such an unknown, the easiest way to draw it up is 13 forwards not including him. But if he makes it, who doesn't? Seems Smith is the easiest since he's still on his entry deal, but I take from your comments that he has a spot unless he plays poorly. Is a vet cut or Stalberg traded during camp? I have this lingering suspicion Olesz makes the team.

Jesse Rogers
  (3:29 PM)

Tough call. Back to coaches and fornt office guys..i think Smith is a Q guy (again, he's tough..see a theme here?) but he might be a front office guy too...hes that likeable..(btw the way most players are coaches and front office guys..I mean its not like they are split on toews) point being i dont see him being cut unless hes just a diff player...yes on stalberg I guess or bickell but I cant believe bickell doesnt have a spot as a 17 goal scorer who made $500,000...maybe mayers or someone..just dont know..or maybe 14 forwardsand scott is cut or traded..

While it would have been nice to have Campoli back I think people are overvaluing him. Campoli probably was going to be on the third defensive pairing and was looking for more money than a guy in that role usually gets. Sure we would be better with him, but losing him isn't going to cripple the team.

Prob not but with the loss of campbell its more glaring and they obviously dont mind paying a 3rd pair guy alot since they are doing it with montador! but maybe thats the point..if montador and campoli were paired as 5/6 that would have been a ton of money...but not sure how it would have worked out..maybe campoli thought he was a 4 at that point (I did) and they were saying 6 so there is the big differnece in money...

Ok, thats going to do it..For the record, no one has defended Kane among the media as much as me..Others say he has to change his lifestyle, etc. I say leave him alone until his body says he has to and i mean becuase of age..anyway, I like the guy a lot on and off the ice..I like alot of people but can have fun with and about them. :)
