Good morning gang! We've got sixty minutes of fantasy chattage ahead of us... so let's get cracking! Second cup of coffee, and a copy of my book in hand... Who is up first?
Good start by Phil Hughes, sign of improvement, or sell if you can get decent value?
Both. I'm not sure he doesn't go to the pen at some point, so I'd get out while the going is good...
Dunn or Alvarez ROS?
Not the greatest duo, but if pressed, I'll vote for Pedro.
Morning AJ. When will the book be available for a Kindle and who do you like ROS: D. Lee or Goldschmidt? Thanks.
"Official release date" is 8/17 -- so though it is available now on Amazon and in some stores, at least until then e-books not around. I would take shot with PG.
How much will the addition of Ronnie Brown hurt Lesean Mccoy?
None. Used as a situational back and to spell him... someone would have done it.
You trusting Oswalt when he returns?
Not out of the gate... I am always skeptical over returning pitchers. One bad start can kill your team ERA/WHIP far worse than a hitter's 0-for-3.
Thoughts on Kipnis?
Ride the streak if you got him, but a .226 BA isn't going to make me rush out and grab the guy.
What are we to make of Ellsbury since the break? I'm being offered Tulo for him and hesitating. Am I crazy?
Given Tulo's injury (day-to-day/finger) I'd pass right now, but otherwise, I'd make the deal.
Nathan or Guerra? Which one is safer?
Nathan for me. Gardy doesn't want Capps and Donny Ballgame will likely go to Jansen or Kuo or Broxton, as soon as Javy has any shakiness.
Why is DeAngelo Williams available in the 3rd round of every mock I do? I mean, it's not like they're going to go pass heavy, and their line is solid...
Just the split with Daily Show still looms... he's a middle of the pack RB1, and with QB and WR being taken, that sends him down to Round 3.
With only 4 starts left and likely no 2 start weeks, am I droppable???
Always try and deal first... perhaps someone in your league hasn't heard of the innings cap?
Soto or Saltalamacchia ROS?
Salty for me...
Majestic Mr. Mass. I usually don't veto trades, but just witnessed the number 2 person in the league swap Jordan Zimmermann and BJ Upton for Cole Hammels and Matt Kemp. Am I crazy thinking this is outrageous, and how should I respond to these hijinks?
I'd certainly demand an explanation... if it's a keeper league, I have less of an issue... but this deal certainly has an odor...
Is it wrong to not trade Joe Mauer because I like him as a person and excellent character?
Even I think this is a plant by me to mention by book excerpt and I know it's not... http://espn.go.com/espn/page2/story/_/id/6820937/how-fantasy-sports-explains-world-excerpt
Question: Which STL WR would you take a flier on: MSW, Danario or Avery?
Without seeing any action yet, I go with Danario. Just a gut call based on what I recall being the targeting trends from Bradford. Obviously, a few reps may change my view.
We are drawing our draft order tonight. If my name is picked do I want first overall or somewhere else... I was thinkin I could still get a good back and a better player in the second round at 4 or 5. What do u say ?
I'm always happier in the middle with only one round of picks between each selection(as opposed to back-to-back and then waiting two rounds on the bookend)...
Start any and every SP that faces the AAstros?
Certainly they all get a boost... but nothing's an absolute.
Someone just dropped Corey Leubke in my league. Is he worth using my high waiver selection on?
I'm still confident in his winning a few ROS.
re: Rich. IF? IF? Your name gets called? What is that a 10 man league with 15 entrants! :) That gives me a new idea for future leagues!
LOL! It's like Project Runway -- invite 20 guys to the draft, but send half packing based on a trivia quiz or something.
It breaks my heart to ask this: Is Ichiro now droppable in standard mixed leagues?
I don't want him for rest of '11, that's for sure...
Rick Porcello's July numbers are: a glimpse of things to come or a flash in the pan?
Can't really buy in with that ERA/K-rate combo.
The message I get from your excerpt is that "the goal is to win," so disregard your moral compass...but how far down that line are you willing to go? What if a player is a holocaust denier? What if the player is your neighbor and his dog does his business on your lawn every day and he doesn't clean it up? What if you could, with certainty, get away with collusion? What if there is a loophole in the league's rules that you can exploit? I think there are a lot more grey areas than the excerpt suggests. Somewhere there is a line, right?
That's the difference between an excerpt and an entire book... the topic is explored far more in depth.
Is Heyward getting to the dropping point? He is now sitting against tough lefties
When Laynce Nix seems more appealing, that says something. Plus Bourn in town? Non-keeper, no thanks...
LoMo or Werth ROS?
Barring any insect attacks -- LoMo.
Who would you rather have ROS: Crawford or Hanley? How 'bout 2012?
Crawford... Hanley got hurt again, and I'm just not feeling good about him. Next year, given SS depth, I may once again buy in with HanRam.
Panic? Don't Panic? Have a towel?
He's a really hoopy frood.
He's a really hoopy frood.
Ryan Grant or Shonn Greene... who you got?
I'm more optimistic with Grant.
ROS - Aramis Ramirez or Michael Morse?
Both solid... but I'll go with Morse.
Think Julio Jones has a Mike Williams type rookie season or abide by the 'stay away from rookie wideouts' mantra?
I like him, but there aren't enough balls to go around in ATL. Not drafting him before my No. 3-4 WR.
Alexei Ramirez or Erick Aybar ROS?
Aybar by a nose.
Ackley or Hardy for 2B/SS ROS?
As good as JJ has been,I'm going with Dustin.
ROS - Jurrjens or CJ Wilson?
Much to my own surprise, I'll go CJ.
For my final lineup slot on most days: Crisp, Werth or Trumbo?
I'm jumbo for Trumbo!
So your still trying to trade Jordan Zimm if somebody doesnt know about the innings cap? Isnt that a little below the belt?
Not my job to do research for others. He's not hurt, and the Nats could conceivably change their mind and let him pitch longer...
Chad Billingsley or Ricky Nolasco ROS?
I'm going to go with Ricky.
Lohse - he's confusing.
Was never as good as the start - this is more who he is...it's all ball bearings.
Crazy as this sounds..Longoria or Cuddyer ROS
Not so crazy... I'm going Cuddyer.
Melky or Francouer ROS?
Kansas City bias? Given the lack of a deal, I'm now saying Melky.
h2h pts. Who should I use for my DH? Rasmus, Boesch, Freeman, Jennings?
Freeman and Boesch tossup.
Justin Upton or Ryan Braun ROS?
I'm going to go with Ryan.
How long is Albert out?
Day-to-day... I'm guessing he's back in by Friday.
How bad does my 2B have to be to pick up Lawrie speculatively?
If it's speculative, that means you have the roster room, so you do it regardless.
Juan Pierre, or is his teammate Alex Rios, ROS?
Pierre looks better to me right now. Sigh. Juan.
Need to drop a pitcher: Bedard, Pineda or Karstens? Thanks!
As much as I like Karstens... I'd let him go.
Kipnis has 31 ABs. Did you really cite his AVG? That seems very unlike you.
The point was that he looks like an all-or-nothing guy, and given the small sample, the 3 HRs are nothing to be excited about. Any judgment I make is going to by necessity based this way.
Izzy or Parnell ROS?
I have very little faith in Parnell at this time.
Vogelsong for Morse a fair swap?
Depends on team needs, of course, but I think you can get a better quality arm for Morse.
Would you start Bedard vs. Cleveland tomorrow?
I'm not, given the shaky first start back from the DL...
Miles Austin or LeGarrette Blount, in a vacuum?
Blount - RB generally harder to come by than WR, and while I think one of Miles/Dez may end up top 10 - I'm not sure which one.
outlook for JStew now that Deangelo re-signed?
Same as last season... can't really expect much more than RB25 or so, given a timeshare.
Pujols, Tulo, and HanRam all got hurt on the same night. Guess who has them all on his team? This guy!
And that is why we play the game!
Farnsworth is being put through waivers. Peralta or McGee the speculative pickup?
Everyone and their Swedish uncle gets put through waivers... I wouldn't put too much weight in that. Peralta over McGee if you're the nervous type.
Best Rookie RB is...?
Ingram longterm, but Thomas for 2011.
That's the time...where do it go? Appreciate the Q's and will follow up on Twitter. I'll be back on Friday for more chat! Until then, good luck and may the odds be EVER in your favor.
