What's up in the chat nation?
I purchased tickets for the bristol nationwide and cup races(1st race I'm attending), row 5 middle of the backstretch and have been told by friends who have been to Bristol that these seats are bad as I won't be able to see the whole track. Is this true or will I still have a great time?
I've never sat there, but my feeling is the higher the seats are at Bristol the better they are.
Terry, I read that Michael Schumacher said that he is the problem that is holding back the performance of Mercedes F1. Do you think Dale Jr. might come to the same conclusion about the HMS #88?
Not happening Scott.
Terry, it used to seem like The Busch Brothers wern't very close but seeing pics of them conferring during the Pocono rain delay, Kurt patting Kyle on the back and making positive comments about Kyle seems like they are closer than ever. What's changed to bring the brothers closer together?
I don't know they are all that much closer, but they are happy for each other's success, as long as it doesn't get in the way of the other guy.
With Penske on a roll do you see Kurt Busch winning the Glen and sweeping both road course races like Kyle Busch did in 2008?
It's possible, but he wouldn't be my first pick.
Hi Terry, with 4 first time race winners do you think NASCAR is due for a first time Sprint Cup winner in 2011 and do you think Kyle or Carl are most likely to win it all?
I'm sticking with Carl now that his teams knows he's there to stay.
Hi Terry; What is going on with Montoyaaay and the #42 team? I am very frrrrrustrated with their poor performances. Can he still win at the Glen ?
If he can win anywhere, the Glen is the place. Both the EGR cars are down this year and they aren't sure why.
Is this the week Marcos Ambrose finally comes through and gets the win? I'd say he's over due and this is a big chance for him.
This is his best chance. That would make the fifth first-time winner this season and 15 different winners overall.
What's going on with red bull? Will the sponsor a car at all or are they gone?
Jay Frye still is workign on it, but a lot of balls are in the air and it could involve some type of merger. Hard to say for sure right now.
Jimmie is our hometown driver but it looks like Roush, Penske and especially Gibbs have overtaken Hendrick on speed, pit work, everything. Do you think after all those championships they became complacent or is it just sports where the run eventually ends?
Neither. First, I'm not counting out the 48 team by any means. JJ is second in the standings and finished fourth at Pocono. And we all know what they are capable of in the Chase.
Did Junior throw cold water on all that Danica running 7 cup races for SHR when he said that Danica needs 2-3 years experience in NW or trucks before she will be ready for cup?
No. Danica doesn't answer to Junior as far as what she does with her Cup career.
kyle sure played it cool after having his pocono win snatched away by that last caution. how do coach and dave help kyle get over that devasation and rebuild his confidence?
Devastation? What Devastation? The man finished 2nd and has three wins this year. He's third in the standings and will start the Chance No. 1 as it stands now. There is no devastation.
Terry your top 5 drivers for W.Glen?Any dark horses?
Kyle, Ambrose, JPM, Kurt and Carl. Darkhorse: AJ.
Terry with tht mattoli guy retireing from pocono, does tht mean tht theres a possiblebility tht the races could be shortened? 125 laps seem prety decent
I doubt it. I think the grandkids still are going to do what Joe wants, which is 500 long and often boring miles.
Ouch no Smoke in the top 5??
This is what I hate listing a top 5. No matter who I say, somebody gets left out and says, "But what about my guy?" Certainly Tony has a shot to run well at The Glen, as long as Vickets doesn't punt him over the wall again.
What's your favorite track to watch a race at?
When do you think Danica will annouced that she is coming to nascar full time, from now to richmond or from richmond to Homestead?
I think she wants to wait until the IndyCar season is over in October so she doesn't get booed at all those races, but it may not be possible to wait that long.
Have you heard anything new about sponsors for Kenseth next year, along with the Ragan/UPS talk?
It's all still up in their air. but Roush has saisd theyere won't be one primary sponsors for Matt. It will take two or three sharing the load.
Hey Terry, With Danica coming to NW next year, who will replace her at Andretti Motorsports????
I don't think anyone will because AA is going to lose the GoDaddy sponsorship.
So, if I understand correctly... a 20th place driver with 2 wins could be in the chase, while an 11th place driver with one win sits out, right?
That is correct and I'm all for it. Make the racing and the playoff chase more about winning. Pro sports is about winning, not finished 7th every week.
Wow brad keselowski!! is tht the best performence by an injured driver u have seen? if not what is?
It was a good one, but I would have to go with Ricky Rudd taping his swollen eyelids open one time so he could race.
Hi Terry, In the ESPN Soundtracks, There was a audio clip from the 48 where it sounded like Chad and Jimmie were exchanging words. Do you know what that was about and did they smooth it over?
Chad and JJ get mad at each other all the time. It's no big deal.
If Dale Jr. drops out of the top 10 at Watkins Glen do you think his season is done for?
No, but he might need a win to earn a spot. I don't think he will drop out this weekend. Hamlin would have to win the race and Jr. would have to finish 20th or worse to fall out of the top 10.
how hard is it for a driver like logano to over come wat happend sunday he was soo strong all day
No question, that one hurt. He went from winning and being a Chase contender to being outside and hoping for the best. But he still could win and get in, so you have to keep plugging away.
any word if office Depot is re upping with SHR?
I believe Home Depot is staying, but there has to be some disappointment over what happened.
Stewart and Jr would both take top 15's this week and go smiling to Michigan right?
Junior would. I don't think Tony would. He expects better than a top-15 on road courses.
Do you think Danica with all of one win in INDYCAR , will have any success in NASCAR. NASCAR wants her to win bc it sells tickets, but she is mostly a fuel mileage driver anyways. thoughts?
I disagree. When Danica can just mash the gas a go on the big tracks, she's pretty decent. And she's really getting the hang of it on road courses. She struggles on road courses and short tracks.
what difference does it make if Dale Jr squeaks into the chase, winless and runs 10th every race anyway?
Whatever he does in the playoff, it's better for NASCAR is Junior makes the Chase. More people will watch.
How involved was Subway with Carl's contract talks? He seems to be the face of Subway also?
I think it's Ford that made the difference in him staying.
I dont know what was more boring Sunday the race or the rain delay. They have to shorten that race the truck series is much better because its a straight dash. Thoughts?
I've said for the years the Pocono races are too long. But I think a lot of races are too long. I don't think any races should be 500 miles (or 500 laps for that matter) except the Daytona 500 and the Coca-Cola 600.
From fan feedback to you see that Kurt Busch won the battle with Jimmie off the track and probably gained some new fans?
I'm not sure, but I know fans love it when guys fight and bicker with each other.
Hello Terry, do you expect Iowa to get a Cup date in the near future?
No, because some other track would have to lose a race and I don't see that happening right now.
Do you think Kurt Busch's beat down of Jimmie at Pocono evens the score with the #48 or does Jimmie have another one coming?
I think these two guys don't really like each other. But both are title contenders and payback is not in the best interest of either team. The one place it could happen is this weekend because road courses make for easy targets for a bump and run
Does it look like Brian Vickers and Mark Martin are basically finished as far as top rides in Sprint Cup or even Nationwide?
I wouldn't count either man out. Both could end up at a new version of the Red Bull team.
whats your opinion of ricky vs carl?My opinion ricky is doing fine and carl can't handle the spotlight being on sombody else.
My opinion is Carl needs to race in his own series and leave the Nationwide guys alone.
Will we ever have a chase like 04?
I hope so. That was awesome. The odds are it has to happen eventually. Maybe with this new points system it will hapen this year.
Does JPM have a realistic shot of winning Sunday?
He does in my opinion.
Did the Burton,-Jeff Gordon fight at Texas last year unnerve Burton or do you think age has caught up and he's now sort of in the Bobby Labonte phase of his career?
Age catches up with all of us, but I know whatever it is, it isn't about the fight last year. He still laughs about that.
Over/under 3 automobiles taken out by the 42 on Sunday?
I take the under. He may be out front a lot.
It is impossible to look into a man's psyche, but his actions can give some hints. His Jeff Burton at the stage of his career where is racing just to be safe and not to win?
I don't think so, although I do believe in years past guys did that. I saw guys do that after Earnhardt's death. But these cars are so safe now that I don't think anyone feels that way anymore.
Come on Terry, give me some reasons to still believe Montoya can bounce back next year... this season went from bad to worse to WORST .... my boy needs to start putting some numbers up there
This reason is it's the team, not the driver. Look how bad things have been for Jamie. Those guys didn't forget how to drive. EGR has some issues to work through.
Hey Terry! I have season tickets in the fourth row at Bristol and they're awesome! I've renewed three times. Anyway, considering the tracks left before the Chase, who are the wild cards and who are the top seeds going in?
Good to know the low seats at Bristol are good ones. That isn't the case at some tracks. The top seeds at the moment are Kyle and Havick with three wins each. The wildcards right now are Hamlin and Brad K. But all that is subject to change and probably will.
Terry, Do you see Jeff Gordon driving until the age of 50 as long as his team is competitive?
No, I don't think he wants to drive another 10 years, but he might stick around another five years.
Kahne has had fast cars lately but can't put together solid finishes. Do you think he can win two races before the chase and sneak in?
I think the odds of that are extremely remote.
with Penske running strong...do you see dodge adding more teams
Not neccesarily. Dodge officials believes it works for them to devote all their resources and R&D to one team. It really depends on the quality of a second team. They have Robby Gordon now, which explains my point.
Any chance Kahne begins driving for Hendrick this year if neither he or Martin make the chase?
Kasey has said he doesn't see that happening. It would require Kasey and Kenny to come over early or else it defeats the purpose.
With Toyota building the only Sprint Cup model built in the USA why do you think some older fans still say Toyota is foreign when Chevy, Ford and Dodge all build cars in Canada and Mexico?
Because Toyota is a foreign company and most people don't know where the cars are built. But I think that type of zenophobic attitide is ridiculous. The more manufacturers NASCAR has the better it is for the sport.
I just noticed that Tony Stewart has fewer top 5's this year than Regan Smith.
I think they both have 2, but it's still surprising.
I disagree that races are too long, and I disagree most races should be shorter than 500 miles. This is Sprint Cup racing. I don't want to see legends like Gordon, Johnson, Stewart, etc. showing dominance by winning a race as long as or barely longer than NASCAR's d-leagues (no disrespect to NW or Trucks, love them both). If you want short races, tune in on Saturdays. Brad K's win was impressive no matter what but 500 miles is what made it great.
You can see just as much action and strategy in 400 miles as you see in 500 Jeremy. The truth is all major sports have taken steps to try to shorten the events. In the age if Twitter and texting and the growing social media, the attention span of the 18-to-35 demo is getting shorter all the time. You have to hold their interest.
How long until chevy introduces the camaro to the nns to rival the mustangs and challengers?
I don't think they are and I think that's a huge mistake. And the rumor is the new Malibu will be the 2013 Cup car, but that's not official.
I'm out chatters. Lively debate today. I little disagreement on things makes it fun. Have a great week. I'm taking a little vacation time in the lovely August weather of the Pacific Northwest. Take care. Peace.
