Good morning gang... We've got an hour of fantasy chattage ahead, so let's get this ball rolling. Second cup of coffee in hand. Who is up first?
Good morning AJ, are RBs or WRs more important early in the FF draft?
Because there are fewer who get touches, I think you need to go RB early. We're talking one or two per NFL team as opposed to 4-5 WR.
If you have to trade one - which would you trade? Valverde or Hanrahan? Joel has the better peripherals but Jose gets way more chances
Joel will get his chances... Pirates aren't going to lose out. I go with the peripherals.
What is your take on Jordy Nelson? Is he a #2/flex play or nothing more than late round flyer?
I was higher on him before the Pack re-signed Jones. More than a late flier, but not yet a fantasy WR3.
Thoughts on Owen Daniels this year?
He looked to be getting it all back together during last month of 2010, and Houston will throw the ball. Injury risk is there, but after the "big 5" are gone, he's my guy.
ROS Ted Lilly or Josh Collmenter?
Going to Coll it as I see it - Josh for me.
What's the latest on Tommy Hanson? Terrible time for this to happen.
Haven't heard the results of the doctor's visit, but my understanding is this was more a precaution than a pressing need --- should be on the hill Tuesday, fingers crossed.
Is Baker's impact on fantasy done this year?
Certainly a DL stint right now isn't helping. Might still be able to give you a September start or two...
What do you think of Austin Collie this year? Seems like everyone is passing on him or scared or something. I realize the Colts have several weapons and the concussions were scary, but when he played he was a TD machine.
Concussions, once a player is deemed "fine," aren't any more or less likely to occur... he'll either get nailed over the middle or he won't, just like any other slot guy. I'd happily have him as a WR3.
AJ! I just started reading your book. Love it so far. Back to business. I traded away Braun and Rios for Youks and Pence. Which side wins?
Shameless plug time! http://www.amazon.com/How-Fantasy-Sports-Explains-World/dp/161608295X It's really good, I promise! Assuming the Phils keep scoring, it's Pence side.
Andy Dalton -- should he be owned by anybody until he proves something?
Not unless we're talking the very tail end of a keeper league roster.
Rank Rasmus, Matsui or Gardner ROS?
Hideki, Brett, Colby.
I'm finding it very difficult to figure out my strategy if I land a late 1st round pick.. Do you go with a lower tiered #1 RB (the likes of Turner, Gore, etc...) or would you consider snatching up an elite QB.. what's your take?
I'd take the QB and grab that same lowered tiered No. 1 on the quick turnaround.
Dont forget to bring a towel. When you're doing fantasy chats its always good to have a towel.
Worst chat commenter EVER.
Rank these QBs: Orton, Tebow, Newton, Hasselbeck
Hass, Orton, Tebow, Cam
Which Steve Smith you see having most value come mid-season? Both cant seem to stay healthy
Obviously, assuming you take the health issue out of it, I'm going with NY Steve.
Not into the South Park references AJ?
My response was the appropriate South Park reference, Brian. And Towelie would say "I know."
heh heh heh heh
Help! I'm surrounded by cartoons!
Dustin Pedroia or CC Sabathia, who has the better value ROS?
Team needs may factor into which one you want, but I think CC is better value ROS.
Everyone is down on Reggie Bush, but would it surprise you to see him flourish in that system and the wildcat?
I'm not so sure we see a whole heck of a lot of the Wildcat in Miami this year... but I do think there's a reason to grab Reggie late.
True or False: Shonn Greene finishes as a top 15 RB this year.
Put me down under false.
PS. With no bias, AJ is right. His book really is good. If you have time to spend reading fantasy chat boards, you DEFINITELY have time to enjoy his book. You'll get a lot from it. (i'm not even sliding in a question)
How could I not post this one? Thanks, Ben.
you buying the D-train's 10k performance?
In a sense... he always has had the ability to shine like that. It's the wildness that I worry about, and I'm not sold THAT'S gone. But the overpowering stuff? That's real.
Ethical question: I just did a draft for FF and a coupe minutes afterwards I noticed there was an accepted trade from one team to another of 4 players...one was giving up p. manning, andre johnson, and two other top players for 4 mediocre or worse players. Then I noticed the two teams were managed by the same person, the commisioner. Should I leave this league if the trade goes through?
You should leave this league right now. The calls are coming from inside the house!
Best hitter ROS? (I won't hold you to it)
He's in Toronto.
I've got Karstens and J. Sanchez in the Pitt/SF game today. Start both? Neither team can hit.
Never an issue with me to start both sides of a pitching matchup since there are no rules against a 0-0 extra-inning affair.
Through reading AJ's book I've learned to speak 11 languages fluently, fly a plane, cure the common cold, and learned how fantasy sports help explain the world! Thanks, AJ!Gaby Sanchez or Freddie Freeman ROS?
I make no such claims myself, but I like the cut of Tento's jib. And this is a coin toss, leaning slightly in Freeman's favor, especially with Han-Ram doing the day-to-day shuffle the rest of the season.
Are you on the bandwagon of WINS being a terrible Roto Category....I had Bedard and Beachy last night and the bullpens ruined EVERYTHING!!!!
If you're looking to use categories that somehow correlate to how well the pitcher actually performed then wins is about as useless as they come.
Is Marcedes Lewis a top 10 TE despite being on a terrible team?
I think he can be, but no way I'd expect the same amount of TD production. I'm not drafting as high as he's going.
"Have you checked the children?"Question: Are Sanchez and Keller worth a late round flier for QB2 and TE1?
Sanchez no, Keller yes. He's my Marcedes for 2011. And anyone ever see the sequel where the "caller" is actually a ventriloquist? No? Just me?
More annoying in the diary room - Luwan or Rachel?
Nobody better get between blah blah blah...wah wah wah.
Would you say then that L's are more defining?
Hardly. Same boat...
What's your favorite scary movie? Also, Does Ricky Williams have any value in BAL or just a Rice handcuff?
I'd say he's a handcuff. No fears he takes away anymore points than Willis did - and probably less.
Isn't that the sequel where the antagonist paints himself to blend in with the wall during the climax? & Who do you like better Fitzgerald or Nicks?
Wow! So I'm not the only one... I'm going with Larry now that Kolb is there.
Thoughts on Holland tonight?
Give him a mulligan on Cleveland and start him. And be thankful I resisted the urge to make an Amsterdam joke...
What does my boy Chris need to do for me to take the 9th from him?
Time. Just a little more time...
Looks like I'm out of the playoff picture in my fantasy baseball league. Do you have a problem with me going ultra streaming in my last week to try and win as many games as possible or will that effect others too much?
The key phrase there is "to try and win" - as long as that's the goal, how can I be opposed?
Please rank these pitchers ROS: Wandy, Billingsley, and Fister. Thanks!
Fister, Bills, Wandy.
Is Breaston worth a look as a late round flier?
Absolutely, especially if Haley decides to use Dexter primarily as a return guy/skatback.
I would agree that wins is not a good category. What would you recommend as a replacement?
I like ERA, WHIP, K/9, Saves + Holds, and IP.
You love the ethics questions... On the pod, Nate often suggests a late season strategy of making a trade that strengthens one of your competitors competitors... For example, your in 1st, the 2nd place guy is in a tight K's battle with Team X, so you trade say Greinke to Team X for a lesser pitcher to help Team X pass 2nd place.... Is that fair in your book?
It's more than fair...it's brilliant strategy. (See Chapter 11 of my book for more...)
I agree that Wins don't accurately reflect a pitchers worth, but Fantasy Baseball doesn't accurately reflect real baseball... so who cares?
If you like wins, then play with wins. If you don't play with something else. You want to play with Errors, Balks + Wild Pitches, and GIDP, then go ahead... there's no industry standard.
Why is everyone so down on Greg Jennings? Is Finley really going to eat into his stats that much?
Don't know that everyone is... we've got another Mock recap posting soon, and you'll see I went with him in Round 1.
With McDaniels in St.Louis, is there a WR worth drafting on that roster? If so, who? Thanks.
Regardless of the coaching staff, the Rams have a decent QB and they'll throw. I don't love any of the WR there, but if I had to pick one, it's Amendola.
I think quality starts is a much better category then wins, thoughts?
Better, yes...but not perfect either. 4.50 ERA days aren't all that impressive to me.
alright, you gave your 5 favorite pitching stats for a league, how bout your 5 hitting stats?
SB-CS, BA, Run Production (R+RBI-HR), HR, K/BB
Wieters or Avila ROS?
Crawford or Stanton for 2012?
pick 2: blount, austin, byrant, wayne, vincent jackson, wallace
Wallace and Bryant.
Swishalicious or Angel ROS?
That's the lunch whistle. WILMA! We'll be back on Friday, and there's always the Twitter. Thanks for the Q's... until then as always: Good luck and may the odds be EVER in your favor.
