Chat with Bill Williamson

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Hey eveyrone, let's get rolling.

Lynn (Denver)

Champ bailey over/under 6 picks this year with him getting time on the slot in nickel defenses?

Bill Williamson
  (2:02 PM)

Six pikcs is a load. I'd set it at four.

John (Neb.)

Any chance you think Denver could be showcasing Brady Quinn for possible trade bait?

Bill Williamson
  (2:03 PM)

It's possible, but I don't think that is the Broncos' motivation. But if someone offered a nice deal for him, I could see Denver pulling the trigger. But I don't expect it

Marcus (Aliso Viejo, CA)

Who do you think will wind up starting alongside Takeo Spikes at ILB between Donald Butler, Jonas Mouton, and Kevin Bentley?

Bill Williamson
  (2:04 PM)

I think Butler has the inside track. Bentley is depth.

Jeff F (Harrisburg, Pa)

Baldwin or Houston has a bigger impact as a rookie?

Bill Williamson
  (2:05 PM)

Well, I don't put too much stock in preseason, but so far, Houston has been more impressive. I think they will both get a chance to contribute this year. But Houston has a head start on makng a faster impact.

Ryan (Denver)

Hey Bill. Curious to know you prediction for the Monday night showdown week 1. Raiders vs. Broncos??

Bill Williamson
  (2:06 PM)

59- ... Just kidding.

Glenn (St. Joe)

Whats Gaithers story? Will he be playing for the Chiefs and if so where would you guess he will play.

Bill Williamson
  (2:08 PM)

Well, he has to show he cna stay healthy. I think he'll play left tackle if he is healthy enough to start.

Kyle Gasner (San Diego, CA)

How many more years of rebuilding do you think it will take for the Broncos to get close to their 1998 team form again?

Bill Williamson
  (2:12 PM)

If you are talking about being a Super Bowl-winning team, they must figure out their QB situation first. Honestly, the quickest way I could see Denver becoming that caliber of team is if they wnet 2-14 this year and got Luck.

Randy (Denver)

Hey Bill, Who do you think are the top 3 pass rushing LB's in the AFC West this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:13 PM)

There some good ones. Hali, Phillips, Wimbley. Miller is going to be good. And don't forget Dumervil, who will be an end again, but essentially be an edge rusher.

Mark (Laguna Niguel, CA)

Could the Chargers decide to upgrade Qualcomm Stadium instead of lookingfor a new one like the Chiefs did with Arrowhead Stadium?

Bill Williamson
  (2:14 PM)

I don't think that is in their plans.

Lynn (Denver)

Rahim Moore looks like he's got the goods. That hit (which looked like a good one to me) makes me think of some of our big hitters of the past. From what youve seen what is the ceiling for him?

Bill Williamson
  (2:15 PM)

He looks good. He was good in college. But let's see what he does ina few real games.

Mike (VA)

Today on Mike & Mike, Greenberg and Golic selected the Chiefs to finish 6-10, and 8-8 respectively... what are your thoughts?

Bill Williamson
  (2:16 PM)

6-10 is a little light I think. They have a tough sked so 8-8 is a possibility. That week 1-15 stretch is nasty, i mean, nasty.

Phillp Rivers (SD)

Why are we so underated this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:18 PM)

You didn't make the playoffs last season. You are off the national rdar.

dan (milwaukee)

bw:how does the practice squad work? a player is put on it and then is fair game for any team to take? Educate me wise one.In regards to the bolts---odim, gamble and tolzien---roster material or practice squad?

Bill Williamson
  (2:20 PM)

The practice squad consists of eigth plaeyrs. They can be signed to any team's 53-man roster. They practice all week and but don't suit up for games.

Alan Castellanos (San Leandro, CA)

With all the injuries at wide receiver for the Oakland Raiders, do you see Denarius Moore as a possible starter for week 1?

Bill Williamson
  (2:21 PM)

It will be a combination of Moore, Ford or DHB. Epxect to see all of them often.

Alexander (SD)

Why are the Chargers still using about a 50-50 split between Matthews and Tolbert? Every time a watch them, it is so cleasr Matthews is the more talented player. Do you think this will continue?

Bill Williamson
  (2:22 PM)

They just want to keep everyone healthy. It's a two-back lead.

micraider (Hot as Hell Texas)

Can you see the Raiders rushing game (#2 for past 2 years) improving with the addition of Boss's blocking and more speed inside and out with Taiwan Jones and D. Moore?

Bill Williamson
  (2:24 PM)

Sure, those are all good reasons why it can improve. Jackson will really work on the run as well. The keys are McFadden's health, the o-line's improvement and a solid passing game to keep defenses honest.Stay cool out there.

Tyler (PA)

Will Tebow drop to 4th string QB behind Adam Webber? Also, what do you think Webber's odds of making the team are? Thanks

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

I don't think so, but if he does, wow, that would be huge. I think Weber is probably heading to the practice squad.

Kyle (Rome, Georgia)

Which young CBs do you see being the most productive for the Raiders defense?

Bill Williamson
  (2:25 PM)

I like the fourth-round pick from Ohio State.

Keith (New Jersey)

If the Raiders were to bring in Lofa Tatupu, would he only be brought in to provide depth at linebacker? or would he be competing for the starting OLB spot?

Bill Williamson
  (2:26 PM)

He'd compete for the weakside job with Groves. But Tatupa is a natural middle linebacker who has injury concerns. He's no sure thing. That's why he hasn't been signed.

Keith (New Jersey)

how likely is a tebow trade at this point?

Bill Williamson
  (2:27 PM)

Who would want him and at what price?

CHRIS (HOT SPRINGS)

I'm thinking 10 and 6 and a wildcard birth for the Chiefs this year looking at the schedule. Am I off my rocker?

Bill Williamson
  (2:29 PM)

No, I can see it.

Steven (PA)

Love the blog Bill. Huge Raiders fan. Why is everyone linking us to Lofa Tatupu and not Channing crowder he is younger and in my opinion he would be a better fit out weak side lb than lofa would.

Bill Williamson
  (2:30 PM)

Crowder wouyd be better. Didn't he say he was retiring, though? It's be probably be worth Oakland's tiem to call him.

Mr. W (Dallas)

How long is Baldwin out for?

Bill Williamson
  (2:31 PM)

No word. Likley out a couple more weeks, at least.

Jackson (CA)

Should I be worried about Gates this year if I'm a Charger fan? Also I'm trying to taper my excitement w/ Bob Sanders but I just cant help but get excited w/ him even though he probably wont stay healthy.

Bill Williamson
  (2:32 PM)

Gates has been working. They want to keep him as healthya s posisble for the season.

todd (minnesota )

hey bw whats the deal with the pryor contract problem i mean with the rookie wage scale shouldn't it be a no brainer

Bill Williamson
  (2:35 PM)

Yes, it should be done by now. They have to get that guy in.

Warin (NJ)

Hey Bill, any explanation for the rash of injuries with Oakland? Is Hue Jackson running his camp too fast for these guys considering everyone has to get re-adjusted after the lockout?

Bill Williamson
  (2:36 PM)

Sometimes, things like that just happen. No real blame.

Corey (D.C.)

Over/Under on sacks by Lamarr Houston this year: 9

Bill Williamson
  (2:38 PM)

That's a ton. He had five in 16 games last year. I think they'd be happy with seven in 2011.

John (Neb.)

What kind of time share do you expect between Moreno and McGahee?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

I'[d say 60-40 Moreno.

BG (Seattle)

After your AFC West tour, who was the best rookie that you saw?

Bill Williamson
  (2:39 PM)

There's a fewMiller, D. Moore, R. Moore, Liuget, Gilchrist, Houston, Hudson. Good class.

Anthony (California)

Do you think at week 6 the Raiders keep four QB's or does Boller end up getting cut at that point?

Bill Williamson
  (2:41 PM)

Keeping four QBs on the 53-man roster is quite a commitment. I'd think Boller would go.

Ryan (Laguna Beach, CA)

Could Marcus Gilchrist and Darrell Stuckey make an impact this year for the Chargers?

Bill Williamson
  (2:42 PM)

Stuckey more on special teasm probably. Gilchrist can get in there as a nickel, though. They love him.

Dejun (NC)

Does this look about right in the division this year?Chargers 10-6 or 11-5Chiefs 9-7Raiders 8-8Denver 5-11

Bill Williamson
  (2:43 PM)

Yeah, in that range. I could actually see SD winning more games. If the Charegrs stay healthy, watch out.

Richard (Greensboro, NC)

Broncos seem to have fairly few gaping holes at this point. Obviously DT is a huge need, but other than that no major holes, but overall just a mediocre team at some positions more than glaring holes. Is this how you see it?

Bill Williamson
  (2:45 PM)

It's a team that is rebuilding. It's that simple. It's startyng over and I think the brass is doing it the right way. After two years of the McDaniels' disaster, I think Denver is in good hands again. But it won';t be an over-night turnaround.

Ryan (Denver)

Over/Under on how many sacks Dumerville and Miller have as a duo, if they stay healthy?

Bill Williamson
  (2:46 PM)

18, maybe.

Mitchell (Denver)

Hey Bill. Any thoughts on how Elway is handling his duties so far? Any perception of being in over his head?

Bill Williamson
  (2:47 PM)

People I've talked to are very impressed. He's a pro and he's a winner. He's not trying to do too much and he's not there to feed his ego. So far, so good.

Sergio Quintero (Tijuana, Mexico)

What will the chargers do at OLB alongside Shaun Phillips, will Larry English start or is it basically a rotation with Barnes and Laboy?

Bill Williamson
  (2:48 PM)

Probably a rotation. English will play a lot if healthy.

micraider (BFE)

Do you think the AFC West champ could have a 9-7 record this year, or are you expecting a better overall record against the rest of the NFL?

Bill Williamson
  (2:50 PM)

The schedule is tougher since the divison plays the AFC East and the NFC North. That's a far cry from last year's slate of the AFC South and the NFC West. But I think San Diego will get to double-digt wins.

Carlos (Los Angeles)

Did you catch any of the LLWS games yesterday? Both were outstanding.

Bill Williamson
  (2:51 PM)

I had as my work background noise. Good stuff.

Colin (West Virginia )

How so you feel about the Chargers offensive line?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

It's a good, solid veteran group.

Kyle (Seattle)

Raiders wins this year, 8, over/under?

Bill Williamson
  (2:52 PM)

I think that's the right over/under.

Casey McGuire (Rancho Cucamonga, CA)

Any news on whether Kevin Boss will be ready to go for season opener and what are the chances Lofa tatupu signs with the Raiders?

Bill Williamson
  (2:54 PM)

Boos is week-to-week. If I had to guess, I'd say he has a chance to play in the opener. We talked abotu Lofa earlier. He's banged up up and he's no sure thing.

Amos (Philly)

Having a hard time understanding Oakland's problems stopping the run given the strength of their d-line and McClain's reputation coming out of Alabama. What or who is the problem?

Bill Williamson
  (2:55 PM)

It's long been a problem, so you can't pin it on McClain. It's something that just has to be worked on everyday in Oakland. It's a priority.

Geoff (DC)

What percentage of carries does R. Matthews get this year?

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Prob 55-60 percent.

Bill Williamson
  (2:56 PM)

Prob 55-60 percent.

Brad (Tulsa)

As a Chiefs fan, I am still unsure of Matt Cassel. Do you think he is the real deal, or was last year the perfect storm?

Kyle (Rome, Georgia)

Will Terrell Pryor develop into a franchise QB over the next few years, or will he become the "Seneca Wallace" of the AFC West?

Bill Williamson
  (2:59 PM)

On Cassel: I think he is still progressing. But he has a lot of weapons around him, so that will help a lot.On Pryor: Maybe the Brad Smith of the AFC West. That's not a bad thing.

Dereck (Fairfax, Virginia)

Do you buy John Fox when he says Tim Tebow hasn't fell to No. 4 in the Depth Chart?

Bill Williamson
  (3:00 PM)

Yeha, I think he's No. 3 still.

Tim Tebow (Denver, CO)

What exactly have I done to deserve all of this? Haven't I played well in actual games?

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

There's some folks piling on, that's for sure.

Don (Canton ohio)

Hey Bill if (big if) they stay healthy can you see denver's D becoming one of the better units in the league by seasons end?

Bill Williamson
  (3:01 PM)

After being No. 32 last year, I think Denver would be happy to be No. 16 this year. That would be big strides.

Jeremy (NJ)

If the Chiefs were able to get through weeks 11-15 and make the playoffs, would you consider them a legit contender? To get through that type of stretch and come out standing would have to give them a TON of confidence...

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

Yes, for sure. If they survive that stretch, they will ahev seen everything possible.

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

Yes, for sure. If they survive that stretch, they will ahev seen everything possible.

Bill Williamson
  (3:02 PM)

Great hour folks. Talk to you next week.
