What's up everyone? Good Tuesday to you all. What ya got for me?
On the Giants front, tell me they are going to bring in Donald Lee for a workout. I mean Ballard looked decent but got nicked up(of course) and I won't be sold on Beckum until he plays more than 3 snaps a game for more than 4 games. I don't want to see a o-lineman playing TE again unless its short yardage or goaline
John, I think the Giants are monitoring the tight end and linebacker situation out there and cornerback as well. But when you sign someone, you got to cut someone. And I think they like a lot of the guys they have on their roster, especially the young ones. I wouldn't rule out a veteran signing perhaps this week. But we'll see. Not sure about D. Lee, though.
Hey Ohm -- Can you please explain something I cannot figure out--with the Giants so obviously mediocre, and with maybe 2 or 3 'premium' talent players, how is it that they are so cap-strapped? Where is all the money going, and to who, to make this team so inflexible cap-wise? The Eagles, a much better team, have cap flexibility galore, while the inferior Giants have little or none. Who is making so much money on the Giants other than Eli and Tuck?
Well, Eli makes a lot of money, like his base number I think is $9.5. Then you got Canty, Tuck, Webster, Rolle, McKenzie and others that make a good amount of money. And they have to not only keep some flexibility for this season in case something happens but they also have to be responsible with their cap situation for the future if they want to keep the likes of Mario Manningham and Hakeem Nicks in the future.
Ohm, I broke my TV on Sunday in anger. The Giants had so many failed conversions on 3rd and 4th down and short. They decide to run it with Bradshaw on all occasions instead of using Jacobs, and failed every time. Why are they not using Jacobs for short yardage situations? For my sanity, please tell me I am not alone in frustration.
You aren't alone. You are never alone bro. But would it really have mattered the way those plays were blocked? Jacobs would have likely been stuffed too. Remember in the preseason? They were stopped on short-yardage situations against Carolina and Chicago I believe and Jacobs ran them both times. They got to block better. But Jacobs deserves to get more carries. Coughlin said the run calls they made were designed for Bradshaw. I didn't have that much of a problem with Bradshaw running those short-yardage plays. The blocking, though, was the problem.
We suck, we're going to go 0-16, Coughlin can't coach, Eli is horrible, blah blah blah... just wanted to get that out of the way before everybody else here beats me to it
Um, where's the guys who constantly tell me 12-4 every week in here? Look, it is not going to be as bad as you think and it won't be 12-4 either. It will be somewhere more like 8, 9 or 10 wins. That's my opinion and always has been. I predicted 10 wins back in April when the sked was released. And even coming out of preseason, I felt it was still possible if a lot of things went right. The loss to the Skins though means they got to upset somebody I have them losing to, to reach 10 wins now.
Wut Up Big OHM!, welcome back sir. what is the status on Nicks for this weeks game?
I never left homey. LOL. No update yet. Good news is that it is believed to not be serious. But that doesn't mean he will definitely play this week. We'll have to see, he very well could miss this week. More should be known tomorrow.
You nervous about Sparty going into South Bend this week? ND is pretty desperate for a win
Yes. I was NOT happy with the Michigan win. Now ND is playing for their season vs MSU. I can see a ND win. ND-MSU games typically go to the wire. It'll be another wild one.
Ok Giants week 1 loss was really bad we all know that but they are 0-1. How can Kevin Gilbride with that stable of running backs run the ball only 19 times. Makes no sense. Help me out here.
Actually 20 times if you include Eli's TD run. Simply not enough runs. They fell behind in third third and it got unbalanced. The Redskins did play well vs the run in the second half, though, to be fair. But Giants need to run more.
Any talk of the G-Men looking into LB help anywhere? I know that contracts aren't guaranteed anymore now that week 1 has passed. Kawika Mitchell seems like a good fit...knows TC and played under Fewell in Buffalo
Kawika tweeted that he was not scheduled to return to the Giants facility this week so sounds like they may not sign him. Something could happen this week but I have a feeling they liked what they saw from Greg Jones and feel he will get better. You probably will see a lot of 3 and 4 safety looks from the Giants.
i still have hope. with 5 of our starting 11 on D out, our rush defense maintained steady. i know our secondary blew, but with another week adjusting to the new positions and such, i think we will be alright defensively, especially against the depleted rams. Our offense will be better, simple as that. We have arguably the best running back tandem in the league (BTW Jacobs looks as good now as I have seen in a while) and, despite what haters say, Eli is a proven, solid QB. the new OL will be much better next week. dont count them out yet, thats all i am saying
Cory, are you really chatting with us from Copenhagen? Cool. Who's the fifth guy you are talking about? Tuck, Osi, Goff, Thomas and ? I think the run defense was good. JPP looked good. The secondary was shaky. Zone defense was shaky. I don't know about the best running tandem in the league but they do need to get more carries. This week should be better with more practice time and a really banged up Rams team. If not, Giants are in big trouble.
How did your fantasy teams do this week? Thanks for the Stafford over Rothliesberger tip - I won thanks to that.
Sweet man. Stafford is going to be sweet if the can stay healthy. I went 2-1. My only lost came on that damn Wes Welker 99-yard TD last night. I was not happy to say the least. Oh well, that's fantasy for you. Got to get over the fantasy bitterness.
Ohm, my friend, it has been awhile but football is back! I am still holding out hope for the Manning to Manningham Express, but the o-line scares me. Any thoughts?
I think that connection will start clicking better soon. Might have to if Nicks isn't available this Monday night. O-line is work in progress. New center, new LT. Diehl also full-time LG now.
Are you feeling the blues yet? There are no more "Sisters of the poor left for those sparkie girls!!!Get ready for a stomping by the irish!!!!I hate m-state since the spring of 1979!!!
Just make sure Michigan will be undefeated when they come to EL on Oct. 15. Please be undefeated. That is all I ask.
Hey Ohm, love your work!! What is wrong with the Giants offense? Is it the play-calling? Is it Manning? It seems like they've had the same problems as always...bad execution on 3rd down, no commitment to the running game, bad decisions by Eli...
Hey dude, thanks. Probably a combination of everything. No third wide receiver so far. New offensive line. Struggles on first and second downs lead to third and long. Poor execution. Need to run a bit more. It's a lot of things. Mostly, a lot of new bodies to learn for Eli and it's a work in progress.
OHM... good job you've done in the short season.. My question is will the Giants sign another veteran CB and, or, TE?I thinking, If Aaron Ross has another game like that and we have no other option, I'm gonna have a massive.
Short season? LOL. Dude, we've been grinding the entire year man, throughout the lockout. Wish it were short. I think the Giants will keep looking but it doesn't mean they are going to go out and sign someone for sure. And if they do, it will be for vet minimum, is my guess. Giants need their corners to play a bit better than last week for sure.
How the hell does that Cowboys fan get a taser passed security? If that is "heightened security," that's pretty scary, especially in NYC
I didn't see the video of what happened. That's crazy. But it's hard to be completely secure. You know that. You've gone through security at stadiums. Unless everybody goes through airport-like security, you probably could get something like that.
Ohm it looks bad, real bad. What do we do? Our lb can't cover and we don't how to play a zone. Our run game looked terrible and eli doesn't have any third down targets. I know I'm being pessimistic but I can see a 6 win season. Who besides Eli needs to step up and will this team to a positive season?
Dude, it's just week 1. Let's see what happens this week before we jump to the 6-win conclusion. A lot of people have to play better. O-line, secondary, special teams, etc.
If the Giants can just be consistant I think they can win. Their problem is Gilbride doesnt call the right plays at the right time. Why else is Jacobs not getting the ball on 4th and 1? Isnt he that type of running back?
Hey Matthew, here we go with the Gilbride shots. LOL. They could have run the ball more. Remember, Manning also makes checks at the line as well. As for the Jacobs thing, I answered it earlier. Those runs were designed for Bradshaw and even had Jacobs been in there, with that blocking, he wouldn't have made the first down, likely.
ohmie my homie, 6 carries for jacobs ? does he need to be the feature back
Jose, naw, he doesn't need to be the featured back. But he does need more carries. Bradshaw is still the feature back.
What's the status on Hakeem and Osi's injuries?
Hakeem's injury is believed to not be serious but we'll get an update later, perhaps tomorrow. I'd say his status is still in question for Monday. We should get an update for Osi on Wednesday but I wouldn't hold my breath. I think Osi could possibly be out for a few more weeks. He just started running according to Tuck.
Hey Ohm, thank you for the time, as always. I was wondering with all the injuries we have, if they were planning on adding anyone else that was cut last week? I know they added one player for the secondary but they need a lot of help across the board. Thanks.
Frank, I don't know for sure but I would believe that the Giants are going to look at people as always. Don't know if they will sign anyone.
Not a NYG or WAS fan here, but Giants fans do realize that NYG just faced one of the best defensive fronts in football? Eli shouldnt see that kind of pressure for the whole season (but at least one more time!)
I don't know about all that. The Redskins are much much improved. Giants offensive line got to get better, that's for sure.
Kerrigan has admitted that he knew what play was coming when he got that INT. When will Gilbride use some creativity in his play calling? There are former Giants on other teams and even a lot of fans know exactly what plays Gilbride will call a lot of the time.
I figured as much. There was a lot of talking when Manning audibled and they looked like they knew the call. They switched some of the calls knowing Barry Cofield is on the other side. Look, teams study each other the entire week leading up to it. I don't know if that is entirely Gilbride's fault there.
Right but to my point they were down 7 for most of the 3rd quarter not insurmountable if you ask me. On that note Da'Rel Scott I know he's just a rookie but he has something no one else on the Giants really has aside from Hixon blazing speed. Why not get the ball in his hands a few times and see of he can break one off. Just irritating.
If they are only giving 19 carries to their backs, you won't be seeing D. Scott. They couldn't get much on the ground when they did run in the second half. I would like to see Scott touch the ball more too but hard to see them using a rookie like that with Bradshaw, Jacobs and Ware ahead of him.
I know it's only one week so it's hard to judge much, but suddenly the Giants easy beginning of the schedule doesn't look so easy with the Bills showing some life and Miami looking decent against the best team in football last night. Those suddenly aren't automatic wins
They never were automatic wins but they better come away with a good amount of wins early on or this will be a very long season.
Ohm, tell me you're a fan of Entourage? One of the best shows of the decade finally came to a close. Felt like saying goodbye to some old friends. So there has to be a movie right? To many loose ends. Right!?
I like Entourage but to tell you the truth, I never am around when it's on and my DVR is filled already with other shows. I guess I'll have to catch up another time. So I take it you all didn't like the finale?
Do you think not having the offseason workouts hurt the Giants with all their personnel changes? They looked like a team that hadn't had enough practice.
I'm sure it plays a factor on the offensive line. You lose Seubert and O'Hara and there has to be some lingering effect. Losing Smith and Boss didn't help Eli either.
Why don't I get any respect?
You get plenty of props. But it's going to take time to replicate Steve Smith's route running and familiarity and it would have been better if Victor could have made that catch on that third down on the first drive.
The Giants have a combined 7 games against Vick, Romo, Rodgers, Brees, and Brady. I'd take 2-5 over that stretch. But seriously, if you are wathcing the film, how could an opposing OC NOT spread the Giants out and quick pass them to death?
I've been trying to tell you all how hard their second half of the schedule is. That's why I don't get the 12-4 predictions. As far as the secondary, we'll have to see some major improvements. Deon Grant says they didn't play their zone right and it is correctable.
And as for man-to-man... yeah, that needs to get better too.
Why were they playing zone and off the receivers the whole game. Rex showed he was not accurate on the deep passes but kept killing them underneath. Fewell has been horrible with in game adjustments and same goes with the rest of the coaching staff. Spags was awesome at making those in game adjustments. Is it just stubbornness or the lack of coaching ability?
I don't really know Jared. I guess they wanted to confuse Rex a bit more. Also, protect their thin secondary as well perhaps since they had three to four safeties on the field at times.
Shanahan used to outcoach Coughlin when Mike was at Denver and Tom was at Jacksonville. I think the Redskins will continue to beat the Giants even with Rex at QB. Agree with the fact that Shanahan has Coughlin's number?
I think Tom went 2-0 against Shanahan last year.
Being that we are having a difficult time giving Eli time to throw, do you think rolling him out or moving the pocket will help? Aldo Eki is pretty darn good I'n he no huddle yet we never use it and let the game click basically get to 0 before we hike it.
Yeah, Eli is sharp in no huddle. But you also have a new O-line, new center, and then a new third wide receiver and new tight end. That might not be the best thing but who knows. As far as rolling him out, I don't know... Eli isn't the most mobile guy and then you kind of limit yourself to one half of the field when you do that. But I would like to see a bit more diversity.
We're thinking of passing a law. Easy schedule should accompany injury plagued season. We'll call it, 'Ohm's Law'.
If only Ohm's Law applied toward everything in life.
Ohm, People have to lighten up! The sky's not falling yet. They're gonna win Monday and upset the iggles week 3! Oh yeah, you heard that right! Although Eli can't keep taking hits like that, otherwise he'll be watching the games on the couch with Dad and big Bro.
Bill, it's always possible. Hate to be cliche-ish, but that's the NFL. Wouldn't surprise me if they win Monday and then play the Eagles very very close.
Or even play their best game of the season.
Or even play their best game of the season.
Or even play their best game of the season.
Hey Ohm, just strating following you great job. What is the deal with the native V. Cruz, has he secured his spot as the 3rd WR. And what do you expect from Osi, can he get the 10+ sacks this year after his injury? Thanks GO BIG BLUE
Thanks man. Well, Victor got the first crack at it. I have a feeling we'll see Hixon and Cruz sprinkled in at third WR. Maybe a time share. As far as Osi... I'd be surprised to see 10 sacks just because he won't be playing a full season.
Damn OHM, im a Notre Dame fan and obviously need a win, but there are some real MSU haters in here
Of course there are. They are all Michigan fans. It's cool though. The hate comes because MSU beats Michigan repeatedly.
Would you call Monday night's game against the Rams a "must win" considering the G-men go to Philly next week?
It's still early for that but it's damn close. Giants went 0-2 the year they won the Super Bowl and the third game was pretty much a must-win vs Washington and they barely pulled that one out. So, not a must-win but close to it.
Admit it... They could have used Plax and Tiki... LOL
Plax... yes. Tiki, no.
My job is safer than yours?
Well, we both have another year left on our contracts. But you make A LOT more money.
Sorry, I was bounced from the internet/chat room. Back in now.
Steven Jackson is out, even with the injuries to the Giants D-Line, they shouldnt have too hard of a time stopping Cadillac right? And when you stop the run, theres a good chance you win...
This is true. But I'd be worried about Bradford passing. Bradford is banged up a bit. And Amendola is likely out. But Bradford will keep passing and passing. Giants need Tuck to go with JPP to get pressure on Bradford.
Entourage is Terrible
Bradshaw, not a fan of Turtle.
Ohm, one thing that infuriates me! Delay of game penalties! Where does the onus fall?! Eli? Gillbride? Both?!! They are so (expletive deleted) avoidable; and yet we get at least two a game!! Why?!! Why doesn't Eli just call a damn play?!
It's hard to know exactly what is going wrong without being on the field with them. But it has to get better. It hasn't been a smooth preseason, that's for sure.
Sorry guys, I don't know what is going on? My connection keeps going in and out.
OH-OH-OH- OHMTORIUS! What's good? My class got cancelled at 1pm today because the football gods wanted me to join this chat. My question is, has any progress been made at the #3 WR spot? Eli gets no time, and we need a slot guy who can get open. Any hope for Jernigan?
Jernigan was inactive before the game. Cruz and Hixon would have to kind of fail at 3WR for Jernigan to get a shot.
Alright guys, having too many internet problems. Thanks for the questions this week. I'll post my fantasy questions blog entry on Thursday for you to send me your dilemmas and answer them on Saturday in "My Fantasy." Good luck!
