Chat with KC Joyner

KC Joyner
  (3:00 PM)

Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!

Eddie (Hoboken, NJ)

True Love... the noblest reason of them all for you to answer my fantasy question! I have Lloyd, Nicks, Plax and Collie as my WR's. Lloyd and Nicks apparently practiced today. Which 2 do I run with this weekend?

KC Joyner
  (3:02 PM)

Might as well start with a question with a The Princess Bride quote. Mrs. Scientist and I watched that movie for the first time in a while last week. Still funny as heck. Can't go with Collie and Nicks could be a game time decision, so that's a huge risk (with huge reward potential, though). Choose Lloyd and Plax.

Steve (Philly)

Happy Friday, KC! What's up with Nicks' knee? Start Nicks or Bowe this weekend (PPR)?

KC Joyner
  (3:03 PM)

Happy Friday to you as well! Nicks keeps insisting he will play, and the Rams secondary is really banged up, so if he does play, he would be the no-brainer pick. Since Bowe has a tough CB matchup and the Chiefs offense is off-kilter, take the chance on Nicks.

Brad (Stevens Point, WI)

KC, according to your draft guide you were extremely high on Mario Manningham. I believed you and got him on all my teams. Still feel he finishes top 10 by the end of the year?

Robert (Fort Lauderdale)

You were very high on Eli Manning and Mario Manningham. Are they still near-elites in your opinion?

KC Joyner
  (3:04 PM)

Wait until after Monday night before starting to worry about those two. If they cannot dominate a banged up Rams secondary (could be out two starting CBs), then it's time to worry a bit.

andrew (kc)

would you trade stafford for matt ryan with standard scoring.

KC Joyner
  (3:05 PM)

Stafford is doing well now but Ryan will catch up to him later in the year. Would probably make the trade just because of the win-now mentality.

Zach (Bronx, NY)

Just an observation, it seems like you're generally not a big fan of untraditional QB's ala Tebow, Newton and Vick. Am I reading too much into it?

KC Joyner
  (3:06 PM)

Just not convinced that untraditional QBs can win. Let one win a Super Bowl using that approach and I might be more convinced.

tommy (the big easy)

KC in a league that we have to start 3 wrs wayne and boldin are locks who should be my 3rd wr out of dez, manningham, plaxico, and decker?

KC Joyner
  (3:07 PM)

Dez and Manningham are the two options there and Dez is battling an injury. Throw in Manningham's great matchup and he the choice.

G (Knee deep in 6 leagues)

james starks or anquan boldin at WR/RB?

KC Joyner
  (3:09 PM)

Boldin ranks higher on the TFS start-sit sheets, so he's the choice. And please don't post questions tons of time - I made an exception this time but by and large those are questions to be avoided.

Patrick (SC)

With Amendola out for a bit, do you expect Gibson or Salas to be the better play for the next few weeks?

KC Joyner
  (3:09 PM)

Gibson because he's a starter.

Sara (Atlanta)

Would you take your chances on the Giants D, or roll with either SD, San Fran or Houston? thanks!

KC Joyner
  (3:10 PM)

Take a chance on the Giants. They are facing a banged up offense and are at home after a tough divisional loss. They will want to take their anger out on someone and the Rams will be on the receiving end of that anger.

Jeff (IN)

I have to decide on starting Ocho, Garcon or A Brown. Any advice?

KC Joyner
  (3:11 PM)

Yep, check the waiver wires. Brown has a shot but the other are considered sit options at the moment.

Shawn (DC)

Im blessed with an abundance of RBs, but am at a loss over who to start with MJD -- Addai, Starks, Tolbert or Sproles?

KC Joyner
  (3:11 PM)

If it's a PPR league, Sproles. In a standard league, Tolber.

Zac (The Bay)

What it do K.C.? How did Starks metrics look? I know he's in a time share w/ Grant but I'm considering starting him over Mathews & uh hum, Manningham in my 12 team league? Blount, Hightower

KC Joyner
  (3:13 PM)

Still have to break down the GB game (am really hitting the tape reviews today). Would start Mathews and Hightower out of that group.

Sage Rosenrosen (Doctor's office)

Should I bench Welker for Vjax in a ppr? I have four spots for Forte, Foster, Mendy, and one of those two (.5rbs/1wrs).

KC Joyner
  (3:13 PM)

Jackson's matchup is better so give him the start.

Ed (san diego)

talk me off the ledge...can I expect anything out of Shonn Greene?

KC Joyner
  (3:14 PM)

OK, here goes. NY decided they wanted to attack the banged up Cowboys secondary last week. It didn't work (they don't have the WRs to lean on for that type of attack) and they won't go back to that mindset very often this year. That means carries in abundance for Greene.

Aggie (TX)

TFS, in a keeper league would you drop Amendola for Michael Bush?

KC Joyner
  (3:16 PM)

Nope. Amendola will be the bell cow possession WR in that offense. Barring injury, Bush will be a backup and no more.

Billy Crystal (straw hut)

He said To Blave, which we all know means to Bluff!...If Nicks is bluffing, would you rather have Gibson or Hixon to plug in?

KC Joyner
  (3:17 PM)

Gibson is a starter but Hixon would be facing very weak CBs. Go for the matchup and start Hixon in that event.

Jordan (NJ)

Hi KC. Who did you have ending up as the better producer over the course of the season, Mike Williams (TB) or Vincent Jackson?

KC Joyner
  (3:18 PM)

They both have brutal schedules but Jackson has a better QB and the better playoff schedule (Williams has three red-rated CBs over the last five weeks of the season). Jackson wins that one.

Al Gore (Excelsior)

I invented fantasy football, so you're welcome!...would you trade Tolbert and Harvin for VJax?

KC Joyner
  (3:19 PM)

Can't say that would be a good trade because of Jackson's aforementioned brutal schedule.

Luke (Chicago)

You have to start Gronkowski, in what could be a shoot out with SD, over Vernon Davis, right??

KC Joyner
  (3:20 PM)

They are rated right next to each other on the TFS start-sit charts, but Davis' note on that chart says that he is very close to being downgraded. Wouldn't disagree with starting Gronkowski.

JoeC (Illinois)

Jordy Nelson or Pierre Thomas at flex? Jordy has the match up, but Thomas will undoubtedly see more reps, need help!

KC Joyner
  (3:21 PM)

Got Nelson rated higher on the charts, as it looks like he will be taking a much larger role in this offense. Got to start him.

Sean (Hog-town)

QB start week 2... Sanchez, Flacco, Grossman?

KC Joyner
  (3:22 PM)

Hog-town - do you mean Washington DC? Flacco has the slight edge in that matchup.

Matt (CO)

Possibly lost two guys in Moreno and Bryant this week, as a flex replacement, pick two, Caddy Williams, Burleson, Pierre Thomas, and Jordy Nelson. Much obliged sir.

KC Joyner
  (3:24 PM)

Glad to help! Nelson is one pick. Williams did a very good job behind some very good blocking, but if Jackson plays he might not see the ball often. Not as sold on Burleson as many, so Thomas would have to be the choice if Jackson's status isn't figured out before the start-sit choice has to be made.

Parker (NJ)

Which side of this trade would you rather be on? Hillis or Blount/Manningham

KC Joyner
  (3:24 PM)

Blount/Manningham. Got a lot of faith in both of them.

Mickey (PA)

Would you trade R.Bush, Harvin, and Manningham for DJax?

KC Joyner
  (3:25 PM)

Absolutely not. Probably wouldn't even trade Manningham straight up for DJax.

Kevin (charlotte)

Need to pick 2 out of 3: Addai, Boldin and Burleson. Is the Chief secondary as bad as buffalo made them look to start Burleson this week? Thanks.

KC Joyner
  (3:26 PM)

The Chiefs have a huge hole in their secondary with Eric Berry out. McGraw and Piscitelli both can't cover worth a darn. Would go with Boldin and Burleson out of those three.

Joe (Pittsburgh)

worried about Charles?

KC Joyner
  (3:26 PM)

Not really. He still had the same burst as in the past, just was on a team that fell behind early and had to pass to try to catch up.

Scott (Northglenn,CO)

Would you trade Forte and a RB3, like a Hightower or Tolbert, for CJ2K? .5PPR

KC Joyner
  (3:27 PM)

Nope. Forte should have a huge season and Hightower/Tolbert will both have very good seasons.

Ryan (PA)

PPR Flex for week 2, Reggie Bush or Felix Jones? Thanks KC

KC Joyner
  (3:27 PM)

For a PPR league, Bush.

Shanny the Rat (DC)

Muahaha!..Do you trust me enough to drop Helu, or would you rather drop Hardesty?

KC Joyner
  (3:29 PM)

The rat? I've not exactly been on the Shanahan bandwagon but would never go so far as to call him that. Helu has to battle with Torain for the backup spot so dropping him over Hardesty (who has no such battle) makes sense.

Jo (PA)

How do you like McCluster as a fantasy WR? Seems that if Charled were to get banged up he could be a stud.

KC Joyner
  (3:29 PM)

The Chiefs look like they are splitting Jones' carries with McCluster, so he's got some rush attempt volume on his side as well. Like him as a backup a lot.

John (Los Angeles)

Deep league lottery ticket -- do your stats/metrics indicate whether Bernard Scott could handle the RB1 role in Cincy, or is his upside limited to a timeshare/change of pace role?

KC Joyner
  (3:31 PM)

His metrics have been more than good enough to think he could be a starter were Benson to get hurt. Only concern is if they were to split carries with Scott and Leonard, but that isn't very likely (or at least Scott would be a RB1 in that platoon role).

Zac (The Bay)

I have 0 faith in Blount, Wells or Hightower. Who or what can I expect in return?

KC Joyner
  (3:32 PM)

Giving up that quickly? Hightower was in double-digits last week and had 26 carries. Best get some good value in return or those will be trades you regret making.

KC brainpicker (fantasyland)

Please don't laugh at this roster, but here goes....starting Charles and Greene at RB, with S Jax out and Dan Thomas on the bench. Now here's where it gets dicey.....starting Meachem, Lloyd and S. Johnson, with Plaxico on the bench. Can you help me? Oh, and am I crazy for starting the Charger D/ST ?

KC Joyner
  (3:33 PM)

Don't start the Chargers. The WR corps is injured, so it might be a Sunday choice. Lloyd is rated higher on the TFS sheets, so he wins if he plays.

Sean (Hog-town)

Not DC... AR home of the RAZORBACKS!!!

KC Joyner
  (3:34 PM)

And dark horse Heisman candidate Tyler Wilson. Gonna be writing about the Razorbacks in the near future.

Aggie (TX)

Have you analyzed any tape from last week? Any idea how the Cowboys OLine did in run blocking?

KC Joyner
  (3:35 PM)

They did awful. Their RBs had only six carries with good blocking. Can't win with that type of blocking, but it should get better as the line gets into synch.

Phineaus and Ferb (Philly)

Pick 2 for this week: Welker, VJax, and Roddy...worried about Roddy

KC Joyner
  (3:36 PM)

Welker's got a pretty tough matchup this week. They are all rated as must-starts on the TFS start-sit charts (more info about which can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com - only site plug of the chat), but Welker ranks slightly lower than the other two. Unless its a PPR, start Jackson and White.

Jason (Nashville)

Am I overthinking this Philly secondary matchup? I'm debating starting Jimmy Graham at flex over Roddy White in a PPR.

KC Joyner
  (3:37 PM)

That would be overthinking. And know this - Asomugha had a terrible game last week. The Falcons can have success against the Eagles secondary.

J.B. (PA)

Nothing like a computer upgrade to keep me from KC's first FFL chat of the year. KC, season question for you. Who has the better upside as a FLEX player for the year: Reggie Bush, Darren Sproles, or Deji Karim?

KC Joyner
  (3:38 PM)

Glad you could make it, J.B.! Got good news in that these FFL chats will be held every Friday at 3 PM. Bush is the flex to start there.

Scott (Northglenn, CO)

Did you win last week in the Fezzik league? And am I loony for thinking that Rodney Stewart from CU has a little Darren Sproles in him?

KC Joyner
  (3:39 PM)

Team TFS did win in week 1, so it's a good start. Haven't looked at Stewart, will need to get him on the radar screen.

Sean (Hog-town)

Yes Wilson could, scratch that, WILL end up near the top. 2011 National Champion Razorbacks.

KC Joyner
  (3:39 PM)

Just had to get this post in so Sean is on the record.

Jack Ryan (Langley, VA)

Is Fred Davis a legit # 1 fantasy TE this year?

KC Joyner
  (3:39 PM)

Absolutely. He's playing great and Cooley is slowed by injury.

Uncle Buck (Trying to fit the toast through the door)

Playing against early doucet this week? He can't do it again, right?

KC Joyner
  (3:41 PM)

He took one pass against no coverage to the house and everyone thinks he's the next great WR. He could do it again but it is a low probability.

Jason (Vegas)

Even if CJ2K has another down week do you expect huge weeks coming?

KC Joyner
  (3:41 PM)

Yep. He had a terrible week 1 against the Steelers a couple of years ago and these same questions were asked then. All he did was go on to have a great year. Not worried about him just yet.

TNT (WV)

Schaub or Ryan for the rest of season?

KC Joyner
  (3:42 PM)

Schaub. He's still going to have a great year. Not quite as sold on Ryan, as that passing game looks out of synch right now.

Mark (Michigan)

KC, who would you roll with this week in a flex over Mike Tolbert, Fred Jackson or Mario Manningham? Worry about Pats keying on Tolbert. Thanks.

KC Joyner
  (3:43 PM)

Manningham. The Rams secondary issues are a huge plus for the Giants.

J.B. (PA)

KC what's your feeling about Joseph Addai? I actually grabbed him off of the WW to stash on my bench as that position in our league is mighty thin.

KC Joyner
  (3:44 PM)

At the least he's a starter, and that counts for something. Have a feeling he won't produce quality numbers because that offense is in bad shape with Peyton, but 200-250 carries have value regardless of the level of productivity. Not a bad deep bench player, in other words.

Nordberg (hospital bed)

Start me or Jim Brown?...ok, wanting to take advantage of a shallow team...would you deal Tolbert, J-Stew, Graham and Harvin for Finley and Manningham if you have the depth?

KC Joyner's Brain (Somewhere)

OK Everyone, this is the last time...start Mario Mannignham! Start Mario Manningham! Don't make me scream it!

KC Joyner
  (3:46 PM)

Well, I wasn't going to put it that, but since you did...

KC Joyner
  (3:46 PM)

Regarding the question from Nordberg, make the trade.

KC Joyner
  (3:47 PM)

Assuming you are getting Manningham and Finley in return.

Brian (Quohog)

Throw a dog a bone. You like Jahvid Best over Felix Jones this week?

KC Joyner
  (3:48 PM)

Brian rules! Jones rates higher on the TFS start-sit charts.

Dan (KC's basement)

Thoughts on Gresham? Does he only have value with Dalton?

KC Joyner
  (3:49 PM)

Sir, I live in Florida, so if you are in the basement, it means you are actually in the foundation of this house and are probably going to expire soon. Just yell out and I'll try to find you to get you out of there. Seriously, though, Gresham has value with Gradkowski at QB. He's a good waiver TE pickup.

Karyn (NJ)

Flacco or Ryan? Also, Jordy Nelson, Burleson, or Julio Jones? Is this the week the Falcons open up the offense?

KC Joyner
  (3:51 PM)

Flacco and Nelson. The Falcons tried opening up the offense last week but it didn't work. They will get it in gear sooner rather than later but avoid Ryan until that happens (or until they face a really weak D).

Mario Manningham (NY)

Ben Tate or Willis McGahee ROS? (I own Moreno as well.)

KC Joyner
  (3:52 PM)

Know that two dozen postings like that assure that the question will not be answered.

Dom (MPLS)

Is it too soon to start Hernandez over Clark (ppr league)?

KC Joyner
  (3:53 PM)

Not at all. Consider Clark a solid/good fantasy TE until he proves otherwise (not much faith in Collins).

Dan (KC's basement)

I am yelling! Let me know when the chat is over so you can find me. Any confidence in Roy Williams this year? Being a #1 in Martz's offense is intriguing, but he is never healthy!

KC Joyner
  (3:54 PM)

I'll have to call out an excavation company - you'll pay the bill, right? Martz will stick with Williams through thick and thin, so as long as Williams returns from the injury, he'll produce some numbers. He looked good last week until the injury, so that's a positive sign.

Manningham Fan Club (NYC)

Your dues are up KC!...Would you consider starting Nicks and Mario as your 2 WRs...or would it make sense to deal Hakeem if you can get a top 10 WR?

KC Joyner
  (3:55 PM)

This week, probably not if only because Nicks injury is a big concern. From here on out, wouldn't mind having those two as starting WRs.

Hatton (ND)

Love your chats. Thanks for your adviceStart Romo or Cutler?

KC Joyner
  (3:56 PM)

Thanks! Romo is rated slightly higher on the TFS start-sit charts, so he's the winner here.

Ryan F. (Tulsa, OK)

It's a little early for dinner, what's your afternoon snack? How was Vick's Bad Decision Rate this wknd?

KC Joyner
  (3:58 PM)

Not sure on the snack or dinner front, have been stuck in the tape room and haven't given much thought to food. Had Vick with only one bad decision this weekend. That's a solid number for one game but one a week is 16 a year and that would be a high number.

Kevin (Indy)

Rest of season: Jordy or Meachem?

KC Joyner
  (3:59 PM)

Jordy. He's likely to take some targets from Driver.

J.B. (PA)

Last question for the week, KC. Since this will be a regular (and welcome) addition to the weekly chats, will your Thursday chat concentrate more on actual games and less on Fantasy Football? Thanks again for adding this hour and you have a great weekend.

KC Joyner
  (4:01 PM)

Good way to wrap it up. Since this chat will now be a go every week, it does mean the Thursday chat will revolve more around actual games and less around fantasy football (although it may hit on some fantasy questions when the Thursday night games start). Before heading out, two quick items. First, the TFS material is always posted on Twitter @kcjoynertfs. Second, more info about the TFS start-sit service can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com. Thanks for tuning in and hope to see everyone next week!
