Chat with Ohm Youngmisuk

Ohm
  (3:59 PM)

Hey guys, apologize but I need probably 10 minutes or so to finish this Giants story on wanting to face Michael Vick. Got a little behind after the Coughlin presser got pushed back a half an hour. Will be right back, please hang in there and I will get to you guys. Thanks!

Ohm
  (4:12 PM)

Hey guys, I'm back. Sorry.

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

When will we see CB Prince Akuamara back with the Giants since the Giants has been stinking in week 1?

Ohm
  (4:13 PM)

No official word yet but could potentially be end of the month or beginning of next month. He only just began doing some light running.

LL (MI)

Hi Mr. Ohmie!!!OOOppppsssss!!!I'm sorry, losers and there's no more sister of the poor!!!Are you ready for the big blue???Is the crystal ball getting clear to you??Ha-Ha-ha-Ha- ha!!!Can't stand M-state!!I hate them more than you care to know!!!

Ohm
  (4:14 PM)

Come back after you guys try to beat us for the first time in four years. I told people in this chat last week that I didn't think MSU was as good as 15 in the country. But I do believe MSU will be better by the time they face U-M.

Pete (MI)

Sparty sucks.

Ohm
  (4:15 PM)

See previous answer. See you in October. Love how you guys all start talking now.

Joe (MI)

You guys don't deserve to play on Monday Night. That game was awful.

Ohm
  (4:16 PM)

I'm not a Giants fan or anything so if you are talking to the other Giants fans in this chat, I am sure they can respond to you. I just cover the Giants.

Rachel (Hattiesburg)

Ohm! I'm 2-0 so far (woo hoo), but barely came away with the W thanks to Nicks, Bradford and even Giants D. Do you think a time will come this season where Jacobs gets the most carries for the Giants? Oh and how are your fantasy team(s) doing so far? Thanks!

Ohm
  (4:17 PM)

Hi Rachel. Good for you! I still think Bradshaw will be the primary carrier. But Jacobs deserves more touches. My teams all lost this week. A lot of my guys went down with injuries and I ran into hot teams. I'll be fine though.

JD (NY)

Ohm, putting aside last night's ugly win, will the Giants be able to field a full team going into Sunday's matchup with the Vick-less Eagles? I've never seen injuries ravage a team like this, especially considering we just finished week 2!

Ohm
  (4:18 PM)

JD, probably not. I don't expect Osi to play on Sunday. Coughlin hopes he will practice on Thursday. And who knows what will happen with Manningham and Hixon. Manningham underwent a series of tests as protocol for head injuries and Hixon had his knee examined. But it could be worse. Look at the Chiefs, who have lost Jamaal Charles, their tight end, their safety. Other teams have suffered most significant injuries.

Michael C. (Westport, CT)

Steve Smith sure looked okay to me. Was his loss Jerry Reese's biggest mistake as a Giants GM?

Ohm
  (4:19 PM)

Mike... I don't know if it's his biggest loss. But they sure could use Smitty. It's going to take the Giants time to find a trusty receiver in the slot who could get first downs like Smith.

Bebby (NYC)

I know it's early, but the Giants sure look like a .500 team at best. What will their cap situation be next off-season? Will they have $25 million to spend?

Ohm
  (4:20 PM)

Bobby, I don't know what their cap will be next year. It is always hard to project because it can constantly change with restructuring of deals and what not. Also, Giants will have to take care of a few of their own guys. I think Manningham will be up for a new deal among others.

Anton (NJ)

how do you think Beaty and the young LBs faired so far this season?

Ohm
  (4:21 PM)

Beatty has been alright. It could be much worse. He's probably getting better. Jones has done well against the run but they take him out on passing downs so he didn't play a whole lot last night. Jacquian Williams saw a lot of snaps last night and basically rushes the quarterback. They like his athleticism.

Jc (Fort Myers, FL)

Ok Ohm. I have a statement you tell me if you agree, disagree, or in between. My contention is that Jerry Reese is letting young guys like Cruz, Beckham, Beatty, Jones, Joseph, Ballard, Pascoe, etc to see what they have. Think about the team that people laud as one of the best at evaluating talent the Pats. They constantly allow big guys leave via FA when they feel their worth is less than what they want in the hopes that their back up will come in and produce in their system. How is a team supposed to know what their young guys can do if they keep signing FA's to replace them. I can deal with a bad year if it means the players get a year under them and come back next year to really make a difference.

Ohm
  (4:22 PM)

I think they want to see what their young kids can do but some of that is by necessity as well.

Drew ((NY))

Come on Big OHM, give me sum good news on Manningham. Tell me he will be starting this weekend

Ohm
  (4:23 PM)

Can't tell you that Drew. Got to pass all his baseline tests first.

Desperate KC Fan (Red Sea)

So will Charles be 100% this week?

Ohm
  (4:23 PM)

See, there you go Giants fans... could be much worse. Could be a lot worse.

Ryan (NY)

Please tell me you saw Boley chuck the ball at that guys face after his TD yesterday? Thank God for DVR - I spent all of halftime watching that clip 50 times.

Ohm
  (4:24 PM)

When I was watching it live, I thought the dude ducked and avoided it. Saw the replay this morning. Boley had no idea he hit a kid. The kid is an intern for the Giants video staff. We saw him after the game and he is doing just fine. Face was a little red in the cheek from the hit. But Boley had no idea obviously.

RJ (NY)

Ohm, what do you think of the uniforms Sparty is going to wear agianst Michigan?

Ohm
  (4:25 PM)

I love alternate uniforms. Like the gold helmets, not in love with no white in the uniforms since MSU is green and white. Looks a bit USF-ish but I am sure MSU will be hyped for that game.

Shon (Brooklyn, NY)

Did you hear the comment Rolle made about D. Jackson? Do you think the Eagles are going to go at Rolle like they went at Carlos Rogers in that Monday Night Redskins/Eagles game?

Ohm
  (4:30 PM)

That's why I was late to the chat. Was busy writing that up. Rolle was basically asked if he could defend Jackson one-on-one if he had to he said he had done it before and could do it again basically.

Ohm
  (4:31 PM)

Sorry for the delay... the chat box would not allow me to post the answer for some reason.

AA (Allentown, PA)

Don't even bother posting the story that the Giants D wants to face Vick! They are lying b/c they have made Grossman & Bradford look like All-Pros. Vick would kill them, and this is coming from a Giants fan. And if they are saying that, I sure hope Aaron Ross walked to the opposite side of the locker room when he asked him if he agreed!!!!

Ohm
  (4:31 PM)

Too late AA.... LOL!

Noah (Mendo)

What is the status of Ramses Barden and is he talented enough to play in the league?

Ohm
  (4:31 PM)

On PUP list, out for at least first six weeks.

Fanfave (NYC)

are we the only team in the league with an 80 yr old offensive coordinator? when wil the team wise up and bring in a younger coordinator with a modern O

Ohm
  (4:32 PM)

You would probably need a whole new coaching staff to see that kind of change is my guess.

Rich (New Jersey)

The Giants were lucky to get away with a win, holding the Rams on 3 field tries were the Rams could've have easily scored touchdowns. Who'll have the most work cut for them on Sunday when the Giants go down to Philadelphia?

Ohm
  (4:33 PM)

I would say the defense and the cornerbacks and safeties. They've had problems slowing down Rex Grossman and Sam Bradford. If they face Vick, the whole defense will be under attack the entire game. Going to be tough for Perry Fewell but he had good game plans last year against the Eagles, they just couldn't finish the games.

Pete (MI)

Start talking now? I've been talking for 3 months.

Ohm
  (4:33 PM)

Yeah, except you guys haven't beaten MSU in over three years.

Shawn J (DE)

Ohm, it seems like forever since the Giants beat the Eagles, this Sunday will Big Blue finally win against the Eagles or will the losing streak to the Eagles continue?

Ohm
  (4:34 PM)

It certainly would help if Vick doesn't play. The Giants won't win if they played like last night. Eagles are vastly better than Rams, who kept killing themselves with mistakes.

Mickey (KC)

How much of a raise would they have to offer you to cover the Chiefs this year? Double salary? Triple?

Ohm
  (4:35 PM)

Why? You guys got great writers out there. I used to work at the KC Star back in 1996-97. Great paper.

Shawn J (DE)

Ohm, the Giants Defense looks nothing like the Dominant Defense they showed at times last season. I know there are plenty of injuries to go around but what can the Giants do at this stage to get the defense corrected ASAP?

Ohm
  (4:36 PM)

Shawn, they are still making up for the losses to Thomas and Goff. They have to adjust their personnel based on packages and Tuck said some guys, like himself, are trying to do more than they normally would to help out their rookie middle linebacker. Going to be a while for it to work smoothly.

Willow (Southside)

Any college football games scheduled for Yankee Stadium this season like last year's ND-Army battle?

Ohm
  (4:37 PM)

Good question Willow. I think so but I am not totally sure. Basically busy covering the Giants all the time. I'd say check the Yankee Stadium schedule but I think there's a game there. Not sure though.

mitch (dirty jersey)

Ohm do you think this team will continue to improve or will it hit a wall at some point because of all of the rookies and injuries

Ohm
  (4:37 PM)

Improve but there's always the possibility of more injuries and that doesn't bode well for this team. Also, the schedule gets much much tougher.

David Collins (Watertown Ny)

Any chance the Giants will give Randy Moss a look, obviously lack playmakers on that offense-makes Eli look very average

Ohm
  (4:38 PM)

Highly doubt it plus Randy said he was done the other day. You may see the Giants sign a veteran here or there for vet minimum but that's about it, I expect.

Paul Southwell (Rockland County)

Steve Young is crazy for saying eli is a qb that needs alot of "friends" Did he not play with Jerry rice? lol And Rick reilly is a nut to say eli is only serviceable who is he trent dilfer now?

Ohm
  (4:39 PM)

Paul, I haven't watched the game over yet again since I've been swamped today but that's interesting if so...

Tom (New York)

Hey Ohm just wondering what you think the giants chances are of picking up a veteran offensive lineman?

Ohm
  (4:40 PM)

Probably would need an injury to take place. I think that starting five is what they are going to go with. They have Stacy Andrews on their bench as well.

Ryan (Miami)

After watching last nights game, I feel that Eli Manning is regressing. What do you make of him going forward?

Ohm
  (4:41 PM)

I think he is trying to make a lot of things work. Has a new center, new left tackle and two of his top three receivers got hurt in the game after they spent pretty much entire week without Hakeem Nicks practicing. And no Travis Beckum. I'm not making excuses. His throws could have been better, especially on INT and that one bomb he underthrew Manningham on. But he does have a lot of things on his shoulders right now.

Daddy Cane (White Plains, NY)

Ohm - I have been a big supporter of Eli for quite some time now. I still think he the awareness and arm strength to be an elite QB in this league. In my opinion, his time is now. The first two games have proven to be contrary to my belief. Is it Eli? Or does this team just not have enough talent at the skill positions?

Ohm
  (4:42 PM)

I kinda agree with you that if he is an elite quarterback, he has to not only rise above everything but lift the Giants up with him. But at same time, he lost Kevin Boss, Steve Smith, Shawn O'Hara and Rich Seubert, all guys he was used to playing with for years. Now he is learning new guys and getting them up to speed. What you have to hope for is improvement each week.

Shon (Brooklyn, NY)

The secondary has given up over 300+ yards in the last two games and Ross was benched last night. Do you see the Giants doing something about the secondary or are we in for a LONG season?

Ohm
  (4:44 PM)

Giants could go out and sign another CB. But if they do, it will be a vet on the cheap and I can't imagine much being out there right now.

Keith (Stillwater, NY)

being very apparent to anyone that knows anything about football, and even to some that don't, the giants just don't look anything like a strong football team. What is the feeling in Giants camp right now? I know there is optimism about getting somewhat healthy on defense, but there is NO help coming on offense, well except Travis Beckum....

Ohm
  (4:45 PM)

Keith, they say that they hope to get healthy and that they can install more packages. Basically Eli says they had to use some basic stuff because they have had so many injuries. But yeah, no Superhero to come in and rescue the day. This is the core group.

Wallace (Paterson, NJ)

Ohm, although we got the W last night, it clearly shows that of all the teams in our division we have the hardest up-hill battle. What is the deal with Gilbride or should I say "Kill-Drive's" play calling? We get off to a great start establishing the run, moving the chains, and then after Eli's horrible underthrow for the INT we just abandon the run for the rest of the 1st half while Eli starts off 2-13. Gilbride has to go at the end of this season, he's horrible!

Ohm
  (4:46 PM)

Eli says the team has called some basic packages because of all the injuries. They are trying to get Stokely up to speed and lost Manningham and Hixon while also not having Nicks in there to practice much of last week. But we'll see how the playcalling goes from here. They wanted to be balanced and they ran the ball quite a bit but didn't gain many yards.

Otto (NJ)

What the deal Ohm...I think i have the recipe for moderate success for the GMen. Run the ball 30 to 35 times, Eli throws the ball no more than 25 times, blitz every down since our pass coverage is horrible and milk the clock as much as possible on offense. Your thoughts?

Ohm
  (4:47 PM)

No good running the ball that much if you can't gain any yards. Got to mix it up. When you have Nicks, you got to get him the ball too.

Phil (NJ)

ohm, do you think the giants will attempt to run the ball more or try to get the passing game going even tho eli will be facing samuels, nnamdi, n cromartie? i think gilbride should call some more play actions, whats your take? ultimately, what's going to be key for the giants to get a W in philly?

Ohm
  (4:48 PM)

Again, establishing the run is great. But they have to be able to gain yards to then establish some play-action which usually suits Eli well. I would say against Eagles, Giants have to establish run but mix in pass as well despite Eagles' secondary being ridiculously good.

Dave (Albany)

Will Prince be better than Ross?? Cannot be worse right??

Ohm
  (4:48 PM)

No idea Dave. He's only had one practice basically. Still has to learn the game and pro system while getting healthy.

RJ (NY)

Whats up with the late start? You're like the headliner band that makes us sit through all of these other mediocre bands (or in this case, chatters) before you take the stage

Ohm
  (4:49 PM)

Yeah, except like the headliner just sitting in the green room, I actually have to work. LOL.

David (New York)

Thoughts on cheering LT giving his recent *umm* issues?

Ohm
  (4:49 PM)

LT will always be cheered by Giants fans. He's perhaps the greatest defensive player to ever play the game.

Chris Martin (Germantown, MD)

This is going to be a tough year for the giants they are going to have to grind out wins and play mistake free football against teams like Phi. The experience these younger guys are getting has to bode well for the giants down the road correct? Greg Jones looks like he needs to get smarter regarding the pass but is a great run stopper.

Ohm
  (4:51 PM)

Well, Jones is great against the run but he wasn't great at covering pass in college and it's more complicated in the pros. But give him time. Remember, dude has only had less than two weeks of practicing with the first team.

Willow (Southside)

Ooops, that was answered. Smack me.

Ohm
  (4:52 PM)

No smacking in this chat room. We're all one big family, and that includes even my Michigan fans in here as much as I hate that establishment. LOL.

vic (no cal)

So, this is a NYGiants chat, and a bunch of Michigan fans are coming to bash you because your Spartans lost to Notre Dame? Is that what I'm seeing? Wow -- Wolverine fans need a hobby.

Ohm
  (4:52 PM)

LOL. It's alright man. I'm grown. I can handle it. Like I said, we're all one big family.

Ken (Brooklyn, NY)

Do you think the Giants will sign another CB before they face the Eagles? And do you think that Vick is likely to sit out in Week 3?

Ohm
  (4:53 PM)

Never say never Kenny as far as CBs go but I don't know what is really out there. As for Vick, he's got a long week of testing to go... gun to my head, I would say no because I would think Eagles would want to play it safe. But you never know when it comes to head injuries.

Jack (NY)

I know Eli lost many weapons etc. What bothers me when I watch him is that you do not see him motivating his players and you dont see any emotion. He is reminding me of Jay Cutler. It appears he plays with no passion.

Ohm
  (4:55 PM)

Jack, when things go bad, everybody hates Eli's mannerisms and personality. And when things go good, they like how he never gets rattled. It's always been his persona. He's not going to change now. He does leading behind the scenes when he helps his receivers and offensive line in meetings. But if you want a fiery quarterback like Brady or Rivers, that's not Eli's personality.

Shawn J (DE)

Ohm do you think the Giants have recovered mentally from last seasons collapse to the Eagles? Are they truly mentally ready to take out the Eagles come Sunday?

Ohm
  (4:55 PM)

That's the big question. Hard to say they are since crazy things happened to them in the final minutes of the games last year and Eagles made all the clutch plays. Until they prove otherwise, I'd say no.

Harry (Fort Worth, TX)

Hey Ohm real quick. While their pass D has been bad their run d looks amazing. We all know Prince has alot of catching up to do but how hard is it on passing downs to tell him go to that guy and cover him. I know its not that simple but it cant be any more complicated. He's been doing that for years.

Ohm
  (4:56 PM)

Harry, I don't think it's that simple at all. And even if it were just covering, he's never covered pro receivers in a game before against pro quarterbacks. Trust me, not that simple.

Ohm
  (4:57 PM)

And we are not even taking into account how he has to know what the defense is doing and different responsibilities.

Benjamin (Concord)

How Reese didn't sign Joselio Hensen is beyond me when the eagles cut him? dumb dumb dumb

Ohm
  (4:57 PM)

Probably a money move. Who knows? Maybe Joselio was always going to go back anyways. Don't know.

Keith (Stillwater, NY)

how bad is Hixon?

Ohm
  (4:57 PM)

Undergoing tests on his knee right now.

Chris (NY)

Desean Jackson is giving me nightmares already!

Ohm
  (4:58 PM)

PUNT IT OUT OF BOUNDS!

Ohm
  (4:59 PM)

Alright guys, thanks for the questions, keep your head up, it's Eagles week! LOL!
