Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:01 PM)

in my office at home, listening to some country music - Darius Rucker can make u do that - and ready to talk about the Cowboys, Rangers and the state of college football. Let's roll!!!!

PL (SC)

Hey Jean, with that come from behind victory,I feel this team will crush the skins !!Your thoughts??Go boyz!!!!4-Life!!!

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:04 PM)

I appreciate your passion, but I don't know why you'd think the Cowboys would roll the Redskins considering their quarterback has a fractured rib and a punctured lung, Felix Jones has a dislocated shoulder, Dez Bryant has a quad strain that kept him out last week, Miles Austin is out with a hamstring and Orlando Scandrick will miss his second game, though Terence Newman is supposed to be back. This will be a difficult game that gets decided in the fourth quarter

Chris Fiegler (Latham,NY)

Do you think that QB Tony Romo will play for the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night at the Redskins?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:06 PM)

Good question. I wouldn't play him. Jon Kitna is on the roster for a reason. I'd wager 100 percent Kitna is better than a 60 percent Romo. Then he'd get 2 weeks to heal, and if the Cowboys beat the Skins, you could give him another week, if needed, because the bye week is after that. In that scenario, he'd get almost a month before the game against the Pats.

Stetson (Oklahoma)

So tell me this, how come Dallas missed a 21 yard field goal from the 49ers 11 yard line, then the refs turn around and spot the ball at the 20 yard line for San Fran's next possession?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:07 PM)

When A FG is missed and the ball is spotted inside the 20, then opposing team gets the ball at the 20

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:11 PM)

i think it's a little bit of both. The Jets and 49ers each have outstanding front 7s that make it difficult to move the ball on the ground. Remember, SF had not allowed a 100-yard rusher in 23 consecutive games. That said, the Cowboys must do better on the the ground than 2.27 per carry. Dallas is the only team in the league without a 10-yard run and 13 of Felix Jones' 26 carries have gone for 2 yards or less

Joseph Garcia (Orlando FL)

What is the status for Dez playing Monday?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:13 PM)

We won't know for awhile. Let's see if he practices on Thursday or Friday. If Bryant practices on those days, then he'll play. If not, he probably won't.

Ian (Atl, GA)

I hope that Garrett spends most of the reps this week focusing on the running game. I can't remember having two consecutive games that were this bad. I know those are two good run defenses that we have played. Are the struggles more a product of the new line, or more a product of the Jets and 49ers run defenses???

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:21 PM)

And to finish answering your question, Ian, I think the lockout hurt the Cowboys most on their offensive line. Costa, Smith and Nagy and Arkin could have each used an off-season under Mike Woicik where they're getting bigger and stronger. They're built for the swing passes and screen passes Garrett wants to run, but not for the power running game the Cowboys often use.

joe (auburn,ca)

Do you think the lack of a decent running game is due to our RB's, lack of O line blocking or just 2 solid run Defensive teams in the first two weeks?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:22 PM)

It's a combination of the defenses and and the offensive line being a little better at pass blocking than run blocking. The Cowboys did win for the first time in 50 games with fewer than 50 rushing yards. There's a positive

Chip (NC)

JJT- Assuming Dez plays...whom do you see as the better WR fill-in, Holley-wood or Ogletree? Holley looked like the better WR to my eye, but I'm a Tar Heel!

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:23 PM)

Ogletree is still ahead of Holley at this point, but it was nice to see a good guy make a huge play. His catches to start the game-tying drive were every bit as important as the 77-yard catch. He'll play and play well this week because he should be full of confidence

Darvell Lancaster (washington D.C)

hey jean, cant stop thinking about Randy Moss and what's his name from N.O the hard hitting saftey that is a ballhawk . Can someone call JJ and tell him one yr for both is all we want

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:24 PM)

If neither one of those guys has been picked up yet - randy moss or Darren Sharper - why do you think they could show up here and have any kind of impact? They couldn't. There's a reason each is still on the street as we head into week 3

Stephen (Marshall)

Is Rob Ryan a genius when it comes to defense, or have we just played against two sub-par offenses?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:26 PM)

Ryan's not a genius, but the defense is playing well against the run. When you can stop the run - not just slow it down - it makes it loads easier to play the pass and get sacks. Sean Lee has played much better than I envisioned. He's run with the opportunity and he's part of the reason, along with Jason Hatcher, that the run defense is doing a good job

Chris (Earth)

Did you see Kitna play Sunday? I know it is too late now because he wouldn't know the offense, but couldn't the Cowboys think about signing Garrard? In case Romo is out an extended period. Personally, I can't watch another Kitna season.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:27 PM)

Again, If Garrard were any good, do you think he'd still be on the street. After all, he's in shape having gone through an entire training camp. He's just a guy. Kitna, I thought, did a good job for a guy who didn't really even play in the preseason and didn't get any meaningful snaps last week. In fact, I'd start Kitna this week because I think he'll be a lot better with a good week of practice.

Dominic (Arlington )

With such an emotional win against SF, do you think this will carryover into Monday Night's game against the Redskins? Do the Cowboys continue this ride with a WIN?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:29 PM)

right now, based on the injury situation, I'd give the edge to the Redskins because the Cowboys have quite a few players beat up.

Nathan (Longview)

I love your work, glad that your on espndallas.com. With Miles out for an extended period of time, and Dez's health issues, any chance we look for another receiver? Or do you think that Ogletree, Holley, and Harris can pick up the slack?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:31 PM)

The cowboys just re-signed Laurent Robinson, the kid who played a couple of seasons in San Diego.

William (Bedford)

What's your gut on where Texas, OU, OSU and Tech wind up?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:33 PM)

The Pac 16 or whatever we're calling it. That said, I think the ACC would be a better fit for Texas. Great hoops and good football on the East Coast without a bunch of 9 pm starts for fans

Nicholas (San Antonio)

Give me 60% Romo over 100% kitna. Kitna looked more like old Kitna, just throwing up there. Threw two horrible int's that would have had fans calling for Romo's job if he had thrown them. I think a padded Romo maybe with an injection is better. OL has to play better or either QB will get killed. Thoughts?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:35 PM)

Romo was working on adrenaline and he did a fantastic job. But you don't want to take a chance on re-injuring him, if you can virtually eliminate it by giving him a week off. Why have Kitna, if you're not going to trust him and play him. Kitna will be fine with a full week of practice. he didn't play hardly at all in the preseason and some nagging injuries kept him from getting much work in training camp. we saw what he could do last season.

Simpson (Hollywood)

Can Jerry please keep trying to get Mayweather-Pacquiao done. That fight has to happen. And it has to happen at Cowboys Stadium!

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:35 PM)

too much ego on both parts and not enough money yet. Maybe, one day

Marcus (Reno, Nevada)

Is it possible that Texas will get to keep its Longhorn Network if they go to the Pac 12? If not I see no reason to go there, going independent opens up recruiting from all over the nation, and Texas already has one of the best recruiting staffs in the nation!

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:36 PM)

They'll have to adjust the Network if they're in the Pac 10, which is why the ACC might be a better choice. The ACC already has a deal with ESPN. They'll have to do some revenue sharing or add some pac 10 programing, if they head west

Rangerfan (Arlington)

What's a better matchup for the rangers? Yankees, Red Sox, Rays?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:38 PM)

Anybody but the Tigers. The Rangers beat the Yankees and Rays last season in the playoffs, and have handled the Red Sox pretty well over the past two seasons. The Tigers give them fits and Verlander is virtually unbeatable

Jeremy (Fort Worth)

Do you think the lockout and lack of OTA's has affected the numerous injury issues the Cowboys have had to start the season. Are players just not in the same shape as they would be with a regular offseason?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:39 PM)

nope. cracked ribs and dislocated shoulders are football injuries. Miles never gets out of shape, so I wouldn't blame the hamstring on that. Newman always has groin issues, so I wouldn't blame the lockout on that either

Stephen ((McGregor, TX))

What are your thoughts on the Rangers chances for another AL pennant?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:41 PM)

if the starters will get them to the 7th in most games, the rangers have a great shot. Their bullpen is pitching well and their lineup will generate some offense most nights. Their defense is vastly improved over the last month. They will be a tough out. No one is looking forward to playing them - except, maybe, Detroit

Ricky (scottsdale, az)

Pretty sure a 60% romo is quite a bit better than a 100% Kitna, as we saw on Sunday. Romo is going to play, hes not some chump Jay Cutler hiding under his jacket on the sideline. He wants to play and we need this win. You only want him to sit to try to defend your idiotic rebuilding theory

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:43 PM)

You're not a chump if you don't play with a fractured rib and a punctured lung. Romo threw quite a few balls off his back leg because he couldn't follow through. You're exposing him to a greater injury risk, if he plays and reinsures it. The Cowboys are rebuilding this season whether they beat the Redskins or not. There's no shame in that, and it doesn't mean you can't win. It just means you're going with youth whenever and wherever possible

MJ (Long Island)

The deflection wasn't Kitna's fault, and he expected Witten to keep running over the middle, might have been a TD, but Witten stopped. Do some of these fans watch the games?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:44 PM)

yes, but they're such passionate fans they can't handle the truth or deal in reality. All of that is cool. Fans don't have to deal in reality, if they don't want to

Bryan (Springdale, AR)

Kitna with a weeks worth of first team reps will be great for the Cowboys!

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:45 PM)

I don't know about great, but he will give them a chance to win

Rick (TX)

What do you see as the biggest concern for the Rangers going in to the playoffs? I'm concerned about their ability to get healthy and remain so for extended periods.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:46 PM)

starting pitching. CJ has been great. Lewis has been average at best. Holland has been terrific, but do you trust him? nope. Harrison has been good, but do you trust him? nope. The starting pitching will tell the tale because the lineup, defense and bullpen will be championship caliber

Aggie (JJT's basement)

Jean, are you impressed by Rob Ryan's D? Also who you got this week TAMU Aggies or OSU Cowboys?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:46 PM)

you'd have to go with the Aggies at home, right?

Aggie (TX)

You are kidding me, right? Kitna's throw to Witten was a mile overthrown. Witten would have to be faster than Chris Johnson to have any chance at that.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:47 PM)

it was an option route. Kitna thought Witten was continuing up the field, but Witten broke it off

Aggie (TX)

A rebuilding team does not come within a play of beating the Jets. Whenever you have a franchise QB in this league you have a chance to win. Enough with the rebuilding nonsense.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:47 PM)

i guess we disagree

CGRINNELL (MY CUBE)

What are your thoughts on the lack of production from Marty B? I see John Phillips in there making plays.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:48 PM)

how much production should we expect from the 3rd tight end?

jw (nj)

do you think the cowboys cut terence newman next year and if they do, do you see them drafting a cornerback in the draft with a high pick

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:48 PM)

yes. yes.

sam (austin)

what happens to baylor/smu

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:49 PM)

SMU has a conference. Baylor will be out of luck, though apparently the Big 12 is talking to the Big East about a merger, but that certainly wouldn't be a sexy league

CGRINNELL (MY CUBE)

How big were the final two kicks for Bailey after the miss? Any chance the boys waive Buehler now that Bailey has proved he can hit clutch kicks?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:50 PM)

Important kicks, but Buehler isn't going anywhere just yet. The Cowboys like his leg on kickoffs, though a KO specialist can't afford to mishit kicks.

MJ (Long Island)

Hey JJT - what do you think of Garrett's decision to run the option to Miles on that 3rd and 2?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:52 PM)

i didn't mind the call. I didn't like the personnel group. I think it would've worked better with traditional running back in Miles' spot

Rick (TX)

Assuming the Rangers make the playoffs, if they haven't clinched already, who is their number 2 starter?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:52 PM)

probably colby lewis because he's a seasoned veteran, who won't panic

Bryan (Springdale, AR)

If a player in the locker room boycotts a certain reporter because they are upset about certain things said about them, does that reflect poorly on the player to management that they can't handle criticism?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:53 PM)

nope. It's irrelevant to management. every reporter has his own personal relationship with every player. Good, bad or indifferent

MJ (Long Island)

i think Mike Jenkins is playing well so far. I only counted 4 catches he's given up. 1 was a TD, but other than that, he's played pretty well.

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:54 PM)

so far, so good. He had good coverage on the TD against SF. That was a great throw and a better catch

Jason (Bmore)

How will the shoulder effect Felix's workload, and do you think Garrett leans on Choice as being the more experienced guy, or does he give Murray a chance to establish himsel?

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:54 PM)

i'd say he leans toward Murray. Choice probably won't be here next season

Jean-Jacques Taylor
  (1:55 PM)

gotta go folks. It's been real. Catch u next Tuesday at noon. Peace
