Happy Friday everyone. Time to talk injuries in advance of Week 3 of the NFL season. Plenty we're keeping an eye on. What are you concerned about?
Hi Stephania, i have school so i am asking early. I really need Manningham in my flex this week, If he does'nt go is lance Moore a good option?
Hi Liz: Thanks for posting early. I think Moore will be playing more this week. He was active last week but still working his way back from the groin injury. He practiced fully all week and is expected to play. They may end up running a lot - and the Saints have a lot of receiver options -but Moore is a favored target.
What is the news Brandon Lloyd? Is he going to be of the playing? Would Eric Decker a good start for this week? Please pardon ffor my english.
Kaya: Welcome to the chat? And you're doing great. Lloyd looks like he's on track to go. If he practices again today, he's a go. And we like Decker anyway (but more as a flex).
Stevie Johnson - how much is this groin injury going to slow him down provided it stays at the same level? How high is the risk of this developing into something much worse?
Tim: This is the question with an injury that is fairly chronic and was visibly worse by late in last week's game. Although he practiced Thursday, he clearly won't be 100% on Sunday - but we don't know if/how it will affect him. And yes, even if you look just at last week, it can get worse.
What's the news on Tolbert, do you think he has a chance to play?
Matt: It looks like the folks in San Diego think he'll play and Tolbert seemed to be confident he would. I'd like to see him practice today first but it sounds as if he's a go.
Hi Stephania,I have both Tony Romo and Dez Bryant (I drafted Romo last year so should really know better..). Are either of them likely to start or should I make alternative plans? Thanks.
Hello Will from across the pond! The latest news is that Romo's lung has healed (per the CT scan) and the issue really comes down to pain tolerance. He'll have pain - but looks like he's making plans to play. Bryant is worrisome given that he hasn't practiced since sitting out Week 2. They need him with Austin out so I think if we see him on the field today, he's going.
I'm concerned with starting Romo this week. With it being a known fact that the Skins are targetting Romo's injury, how much will his kevlar vest actually protect him should his line falter? Vick did ok in his protective vest last season didn't he? I'd hate to start him for him to only last a qtr. before he trades his helmet in for a ball cap. Thanks!
Jish: Good follow to the last post. Not much is known about this vest seeing as Vick's was the first of its type. But Vick had a painful, slow-healing rib cartilage injury and he swears it helped him absorb contact. Of course there's a chance that he doesn't last - but I think he will go longer than a quarter. Can he be effective might be the bigger question?
B Wells, have him in three leagues, any news?
Ralph: 3 leagues? Do you really like him that much? You know he's had a history of leg injuries, right? I guess I'm not that surprised to see him tweak a hamstring. He makes it sound minor - but I never like the late week injury, especially if he does not return to practice the next day. So take a peek at Friday news.
Scary Britt moment earlier in the week...he's okay, right?
Anthony: That hamstring of his is going to be a concern perhaps for much of the season. This is the same one he injured last year and was bothered almost immediately in camp by it. Luckily Britt returned to full practice Thursday so it appears he will be on the field Sunday.
Whats the news on Michael Vick? And if he is able to start, would he be a solid start or would they only play him a portion of the game?
Pete: As long as there are no setbacks between now and Sunday, Vick will play. He has passed all tests and been cleared by a neurologist. And if they're putting him back it's not with the intent to sit him shortly afterward.
Good morning, Starphania! Any more word on the severity of Calvin Johnson's ankle situation? Or are we strictly dealing with a "rest the ankle all week" policy from the Lions?
Jason: Think this is a pretty common pattern for Johnson in Detroit. Rest early in the week and hope for action later. Expect he plays, as usual.
How is Gates dealing with his foot injury? He hasn't practiced all week, so is there any concern he will not play?
Jake: I think there might be some concern. Everyone knew the foot was potentially an ongoing issue and was something that would need to be managed across the season. Management includes resting it, but what we don't know is just how much it might be affecting him. So far I'd lean towards him playing, but would like to see him practice Friday first.
Any word on Crabtree out of the Niners? He going to finally play, or should we drop him?
Fred: It sounds like he's going to play but it's hard to have confidence when he hasn't shown much this year. He has already said he will just take himself out of games if his foot is bothering him too much. Makes me wonder how long he'll last.
PLEASE tell me that Harvin is not having migrane problems again!? I see that he missed part of practice yesterday.
Matt: Harvin reportedly had an illness and coach Frazier said he did not believe it was migraine-related. Guess we'll find out if he's well enough to practice later today.
Any more word on Miles Austin? I saw a report last night saying although he's likely not playing Monday night, the severity of his injury was slightly exaggerated.
J: Quite possible - but as long as he's already not expected to play, we won't get much info on him. Especially with all the talk about Romo. Better assessment should come next week.
Does Stephen Jackson's injury look like it will be one that bothers him the whole year or should he be good to go when he is ready?
Nick: I think Jackson and the Rams are trying to resolve that exact question by not having him play too soon. It looked as if he was in good shape for this week since he tried to warm up for Monday night's game, but his lack of activity so far this week is a legit cause for concern. He may again come down to a gametime decision.
McFadden has started off hot again, but we all know he is injury prone, how serious is this shoulder injury and any concern they may cut his reps this sunday?
Chris: THis is the same thing that he played with last week so there's no reason to think he won't be out there this week.
Is no news good news regarding the health of Nicks?
Jeff: I have to think so. Giants have so many injuries that the guys who aren't ailing they drop off the immediate radar. Seems as if Nicks came out no worse for the wear from Monday night.
whats my TE situation? News on Marcedes or Hernandez?
Joe: Hernandez expected OUT with the MCL injury. Marcedes back in practice this week. If no setbacks, he should play.
How is Colston looking? Just grabbed him off of the wire,
Shane: Actually according to the Saints, they think he's a bit ahead of where they expected him right now.
Could you please tell us how Felix's current shoulder injury affects him for this week and the rest of the season?
Colby: Been hard to get a ton of info and Jones has not been practicing. I'm told he dislocated his shoulder and they fit him with a harness on Sinday which allowed him to get back in the game. I suspect he'll wear the same harness but imagine it won't be comfortable to get hit or driven down onto that shoulder. How he progresses over the season may depend on how hard he gets hit week in and week out.
You scared about CJ2K's ribs?
John: No. Just scared about his lackluster performance so far.
With hernandez out will Ochocinco play a biger role in the pats offense?
Emilio: That's what several sources who follow the Pats daily seem to think.
Howz Braylon? How long are we thinking he might be out? Thanks Stephania - Much Love!
Rhyno: 49ers not offering up much but if his surgery was to address a meniscus tear, plan on at least 3 weeks.
Someone pointed out, astutely, that I didn't get to Manningham in the first question. He has not practiced meaning he has not been cleared to return. Many of the post-concussion tests are happening in the background and we will not be updated on every single one. But there are many things, including absolutely no symptoms at rest, that have to happen before he is cleared. I would say if he's not practicing by Friday, then it's not looking good for him to play.
Do you ever have any answer other than "there's no way to know"?
Well Jake, I could make stuff up. If there's anyone who can say definitively whether someone's injury will absolutely be fully healed or will absolutely deteriorate if they play, I'd welcome their insight.
Any updates on how Sidney Rice will play with his torn labrum?
Todd: They're just hoping for starters that he plays. The fact he has a torn labrum means you can expect that it will not heal on its own. The question then is whether he can functionally perform despite the injury. Apparently right near the start of the season it worsened so he was havving a lot of pain and couldn't do mcuh. This week, full practices. The Seahawks said if he did that every day they would expect him to play.
This is my third posting, and some how you've chosen someone who can't even spell "Stephania" correctly. Starpania...wth is that?!? LOL.. Give me some love...I have felix (the cat) jones, Tolbert, and D. Thomas as my #2 backs, do you feel confident in any of them?!?!
Brad: You have to start listening to the 06010 fantasy football podcast! Starphania is one of my beloved nicknames. I like TOlbert the best of your 3. Daniel THomas has potential, as he showed last week, but too early to say if he's consistent and Jones i banged up.
Any update on how Arian Foster's hamstring is healing up? Is this going to be the kind of injury that pushes Ben Tate into a viable role for the foreseeable future?
Alex: At least for this week Tate is going to be the feature back. Foster could still play - it's unclear - but after him getting some tightness halfway through the game last week, they won't push him until they feel he's a bit further along. So until that happens, yes, Tate has quite a bit of value.
Howdy, any word on Janikowski or Clark's feet? Got em both...
Brian: Don't think either one is major. Janikowski practiced fully yesterday despite the foot. Clark was limited (but Colts often limit a lot of their players for even minor injury issues). Bigger concern for Clark might just be the QB situation.
Do you know why teams will change the status of a player who is reported to be out for multiple weeks... they will be Doubtful at the beginning of each week then by game day they change to Out, but change back to Doubtful on Tuesday... Specifically, someone like Amendola, Sidney Rice, etc. Don't they know fantasy owners can put these guys on IR and it is challenging for us to make moves when we constantly move them on/off injured lists. Thanks for the chat Stephania...
Chris: Ahhhh, you speak to the frustration of many fantasy owners. But truthfully sometimes an injury looks really serious, then within a couple days, further testing, the team finds out it's not as dire as it was. Or that despite what they find out the injury is, a guy can actually perform better than they originally thought. And they really don't have our fantasy interests in mind whatsoever...
OK everyone - I need to move over for the TMR chat at noon. Ask him your lineup questions. You know he has some thoughts to share...Good luck in Week 3!!!
