Hello gang. Welcome to the BRSiR. Let's do it. But no punching on the break like Mayweather
The new 88 car looks sharp.
It's just OK for me. I'm not big on the silver cars, but it's stylish.
Terry, How in the world can Jeff Gordon be so strong for the last two months and come out and lay an egg performance wise (putting aside the fuel mileage deal) first race in? From what you know around the garage......is he done?
He's not done, but Monday was disappointing. The 24 wasn't good before the fuel mileage thing can into it. They better hope it isn't an indication of how they will perform on the other 1.5-mile ovals.
Do you expect the new Dega rules to seriously affect the two car tangos, or will they just as prevalent and vital to success as before?
I think it will change things a little, but not a lot. The cars will have to switch more off on the pairs. It actually could cause more wrecks because the cars are less stable with more HP, so if you push in the wrong spot, look out.
Where is Kasey Khane in the standing... And Who won this Monday's Race... I LOVE KASEY KHANE
Rachel, you are OLD school is 2 days later you don't know the winner. The Pony Express just arrived. It was Stewart. Kahne is 20th in the standings.
Since I am a troll this probably won't get answered. After the Kenseth Yeley push this week, do you think that someone could do that to damage another team? Example, JJ is out of gas so Menard pushes him, not to help but to get JJ a penalty. Seems like a BS rule to me
No one is that unprofessional Andrew. Just won't happen. And I think it's a good rule. You should finish under your own power. However, no one can push you if you don't want to be pushed. You just turn the wheel.
Who are the contenders and pretenders now?
As I said in today's column, never mind. However, one race doesn't make Smoke and Dale champ contenders just yet. But every week they stay near the top is great for NASCAR because they arguably are the two most popular drivers in the sport. Actually, no argument on Jr being No. 1. It's debatable if Tony is No. 2, but he's up there.
Why hasn't someone ever come up with an idea to cover the track with a big sheet in case of rain. It save expensive jet fuel and it is good for the environment. Or why hasn't multimillionaire and creative thinker Bruton Smith never build or rebuild a race facility with a roof on it?
Bruton once proposed putting a roof on Bristol, but it just isn't feasinble. Too expensive and the fumes would be awful. And a tarp big enough for a speedway doesn't exist. Even if it did, putting it up and down would be a nightmare.
Will dale be a champion i want to know pls?
If you ask me to guess, I'll say know. But it's possible as long as he in the Chase.
Hello Terry, which "non-chaser" should we keep an eye on at New Hampshire this week??????
I'd say Logano. He's good at NH (was fourth in July)and JGR always is good there.
Do you think with Bowyer going to MWR that they will run better than JGR next year?
Not a chance.
I got a feeling the 88 might suprise a few folks this year. I'm not ready to crown Jr the 2011 cup championship, but I think he might at least be on the stage in Vegas. What's your thoughts?
Without a doubt he could finish in the top 10. Utopia for NASCAR would be for him to be in contention at Homestead.
Will the 2012 schedule released later this week?
Maybe, but don't hold your breath for any major changes. Dates change a little, but all the same tracks that have a Cup race now will have one next year.
Any news about Danica's number for SHR for next year?
No. Does it realy matter?
Will Jimmie win again this year and if so do you think NASCAR will stop being televised since we know who is going to win every year?
Very funny. JJ defintely could win it again this year, but I think more guys have a legit chance to beat him than ever before.
Thoughts on a weekly elimination in the Chase?
I agree with Ed on this. A knockout format would be fun. He believes Hamlin is done anyway. I haven't completely counted Denny out yet. He's still within the number of points a driver can make up in one race.
why is it harvick being harvick, but if its the busch brothers they are immatuture cry babies?
Just depends on whom you ask Jamie and who is a fan of which driver. But I think Kurt is over the top sometimes on the radio with his crew. It doesn't exactly help team morale.
Bigger 'Villain' in their sport. Mayweather or Kyle?
For the moment, Mayweather. Kyle hasn't sucker-punched anyone. The funniest part of that deal was Merchant after the fight saying he would kick Mayweather's you know what if he was 50 years younger.
do you think JJ will retire if he wins again??
So no one is unprofessional enough to push someone but there is at lease one driver unprofessional enough to spin out on purpose to bring out a caution to benefit a teammate, well actually 2 if you count Denny Hamlin a couple years ago at Richmond.
Apples and oranges Larry. First, Menard's deal is speculation. Second, he didn't directly do anything to another car.
How much does 7-10 HP add in terms of speed?
Not much, maybe 1 to 2 MPH. But it greatly changes the stability of the car while drafting.
After EGRs promising year last year... How can they be so bad this year?
If they knew, they would fix it. They have to be the most disappointing team overall in 2011.
Do you think Austin Dillion will run the #3 when/if he makes to to cup?
I think they want to see how people react in NW and see how he does. It's a big step to take that number in Cup. I don't know if i would want to do it. Lot of pressure. But sponsors may want to do it.
Who ever becomes Danica sprint cup crew chief at SHR. Do you think they crew chief might have to be patient with her.
Absolutely. DP doesn't react well to negative reinforcement. But she listens if you explain things to her and she takes it to heart.
Why are there so many people critical of the fuel races? I think they add so much to the end of the race. Strategy what another great element to racing.
I'm with ya Michael. I thought the end of Monday's race was high drama. It also gives more people a chance to win and makes the Chase way more interesting.
After Tony's win on Monday, How do you think his chances are winning thee Championship?
Is Tony Eury Jr going to make the transition to cup with Danica or will it be someone else?
I'm still not a believer as far as him winning the title, but he's one of the best drivers in the sport and he's capable of getting of a role. Plus, SHR outclassed the field in the July NH race this year, so they have a lot of confidence going into ths weekend.
Soory, that answer was about Smoke. As for Tony Jr. I hope he goes with her to Cup. I think he's been great for her.
Does Scott Miller leaving RCR for MWR have any impact on that organization?
Sure it does, and it seems like strange timing. I think there's more going on there than meets the eye.
What does the new restrictor plate mean for Talladega?
Faster speeds, more danger and possibly less 2-car tandems, but we'll still see it.
After the Hendrick cars sat back at Daytona in July and it did not work out, do you think they will decide to run up front all race instead?
I think they will do the same thing at Dega they did there in the spring, which worked out well for JJ and Jr.
Do you think the 17 can make a comeback after this last race/fiasco?
It won't be easy, but if anyone can, Matt can because he is so consistent, and consistency wins the Chase.
Are Denny and Kyle going to start working on setups for next year now that they are out of the title picture?
KYBu definitely not out of the title Chase. He's only 19 points back. I don't think the 11 has given up, either, although it looks grim.
After SHR Started on the front row do you think theirs a chance that they will use the same chassies set up for Sunday?
Pretty darn likely.
You can't have an elimination format. If a driver gets caught up in someones mess, gets knocked out, and then wins the other 9 races, shouldn't he win the championship?
A fair point, although that wouldn't happen. But JJ finished 36th in the first Chase race of 2006 and won the title. But it wasn't 12th in the standings.
How about an IF/THEN format for the elimination. If youre X points back from the leader after Y races, then youre done. Have it after the 3rd and 6th race. That way it puts drivers out of the realistic picture outta their misery and they can just concentrate on wins
Good idea, but you don't want to make it to complicated. Whenever this has been discussed, it wasn't after each race. It was like you suggest, eliminating a few at a time in a couple of races along the way.
I kinda hope it means less 2-car tandems. I mean huge pack racing is fun but I think it puts a little more ability in the drivers hands in big packs.
I disagree Abe. I think the packs put less in the driver's hands. You have more control with one partner.
Top 5 this sunday?
JJ, Kurt, Kyle, Smoke and Carl
How long until anti-Jr. nation lets us all know the Talladega rule was put in just for him?
Somebody somewhere probably already said it. You can't fix stupid.
Are we related?
No, but I also like to run hard to daylight. Mel Blount was more my era.
What do you think the chances of Jimmies winning the championship this year ?
At least 50/50, if not a little better.
Can the 33 steal some thunder from the Chasers or will they be the typical "lame duck" team?
Anything can happen at Dega, and Clint won that race a year ago. He also won at NH a year ago with that car body that was a quarter-width illegal.
Jr and JJ tied going into Homestead. Do they really share everything that week or go into a "every team for themselves" mentality?
Good queston. They will say they are sharing everything. But they won't.
Do you see the chase guys working together at Dega or chase guys paired with someone not in the chase?
You work with whoever you think can get you to the front, and probably, that's another Chaser. Even if you are the pusher and finish 2nd, any driver would take that at Dega and be glad he didn't wreck and blow his Chase chances.
They need to replace the Talladega chase race with either Sonoma or Watkins Glen, best idea ever huh?
No. I'm all for having a road race in the Chase (probably Sonoma for me) but I also think it should have one plate race. The Chase should have one of every type of track.
If Stewart Hass runs a third team all season next year how soon do they need to beging putting all those pieces together?
They already are putting those pieces together, even if it's just for DP's races. If Tony gets the sponsorship to have the car run the whole season, he will add more people.
Kurt Busch's chase title hopes this year? He is looking stout.
He's in the hunt if he can get control of his emotions and stop ripping his team on a regular basis.
Appreciate the time TB!
Chatting with the BRSiR crew is the best hour of my work week.
HalloDega every year. Good or bad idea? Loved the feeling with all the creepy stories, rumors of haunting and the night race
It's an old Indian burial ground, at least that's the legend. So it's always spooky.
Do you think Wood brothers racing will return full time next year with Bayne and Stenhouse in the 21 car?
Not full time. I think they will run about the same number of races as they did this year, but it may be Stenhouse in the car.
Steve Addington said the reason for Kurt Busch slipping back there at the end of the race on Monday was a small part failure, so they didn't lose the car. He said the team is pumped up now that they know how strong the car was. He looked strong leading the most laps. What are his chances at the title, and who are his toughest competitors?
As I said, his chances are good because Kurt is a great driver and he has a strong team. But he needs to pump his guys up instead of ripping them on the radio when he's mad.
I'm guessing if Jr. and JJ are near the front at Tallegeda JJ won't return the favor this year...
That might depend on where each of them is in the standings at that time. But overall, whether you push and get pushed, it's all good to finish 1-2 at Dega and avoid the carnage.
Do you think we'll have a roadcourse race in the chace in 2013? It seems like everyone wants once. Ryan McGee mentioned something about Montreal yesterday as a possibility.
My buddy McGee and I agree Montreal should have a Cup race, but right now, it's up in the air if they will have a NW race next year. Politics gets in the way of Montreal getting a Cup race. As long as ISC owns Watkins Glen, the chances of a Cup race at Montreal are slim and none.
Gotta run folks. I have an NHRA story to write of Funny Car driver Matt Hagan. Check it out Friday on our motors page. Have a great week. I'm out. Peace.
