Chat with AJ Mass

AJ Mass
  (11:01 AM)

Good morning, gang! Let's get right to it... second cup of coffee in hand. Who is up first?

Hank (Seoul)

Can you tell me what's wrong with DeAngelo Williams? Should he be benched in all leagues?

AJ Mass
  (11:03 AM)

Lots of DeAngelo worry out there. Some of yesterday's poor play a result of the atrocious field conditions, but it's clear Stewart is starting to take the lead in the tandem. Not time to cut bait yet, but it's troublesome.

Mike (Raleigh)

Nice game for Joseph Addai. Is there hope for him yet as a viable flex play?

AJ Mass
  (11:04 AM)

Yes, given there's going to be an overhaul of the style of play if Painter is getting starts from now on. But not more than flex.

Captain Hook (Tampa)

Any thoughts on Harvin? Is he ready to turn the corner in this offense?

AJ Mass
  (11:06 AM)

I like Percy a lot. It's troublesome that this team doesn't know how to play with a lead... perhaps if they fall behind early in one of these games, we'll see a lot more of Harvin and he can pad his stats.

Corey (Glen Burnie, MD)

Trade Alert: CJ2K for Roy Helu. Who would you take?

AJ Mass
  (11:08 AM)

CJ2K. Yes he's been disappointing, but with Britt out, there's going to be a lot more reliance on the run... that may mean more Ringer as well, but I think he can step it up.

Steve (IND)

Speaking of Painter, outside of the sack/fumble/Def.TD the kid looked great. Have we seen the end of Collins?

AJ Mass
  (11:09 AM)

They're 0-3 and Peyton's not coming back... I'm not sure there's a point in playing Collins over seeing what Painter has got so that they can decide if they need to draft a QB.

Jon (Ann Arbor)

How much value do Eagles receivers lose if Vick is out? Are Maclin and Jackson still must-starts? (if Maclin is healthy).

AJ Mass
  (11:11 AM)

Yes, they are must starts. With a full week of prep, either Young or Kafka will get them enough balls. The issue is if there's a "half-Vick" practice week, which ends up hurting the whole offense if he needs to drop out of action mid-game.

Roger (NM)

So, Knowshon was active, but didn't have a single carry? He's droppable, right?

AJ Mass
  (11:12 AM)

The word is that he wasn't 100 percent, and as such, they weren't going to play him except in an emergency. That may be lip service, but I tend to take Coach Fox at his word.

Jay Y (East Longmeadow, MA)

Need 6.5 points for the W, who's gonna get me a better chance at the win Romo or Grossman?

AJ Mass
  (11:13 AM)

If Romo starts, he's the better QB. It's that simple.

Jon (KC)

How valuable has Nate Washington become in PPR leagues with the news that Britt is done for the year?

AJ Mass
  (11:14 AM)

It's not just a matter of Washington getting Britt's stats, because the likes of Hawkins, Williams and Mariani don't measure up to Washington.

Karyn (NJ)

Will Torrey Smith replace Lee Evans or is he a one-week wonder?

AJ Mass
  (11:15 AM)

I think the trade for Evans was because of fears that Smith wasn't ready. He may well still prove to be erratic, but as long as he catches what is thrown to him, he's got to be higher in the pecking order.

Gilbert N. (Asheville, NC)

You buying Victor Cruz??

AJ Mass
  (11:16 AM)

Not really... if the Eagles remembered how to tackle, his line would not look nearly as good. I expected Cruz to get the one game bump, but longer term, I'm not seeing it.

Steven (Jacksonville, FL)

What happened to Philip Rivers?!? Please give me some reasoning behind this.

AJ Mass
  (11:18 AM)

Nothing happened to Rivers. Gates didn't play at the last minute and Mathews got into the end zone. Pass percentage was fine and if he had 1 TD in the air, there'd be zero concern.

Loren (Detroit)

Will Josh Freeman start throwing TDs anytime this year and bring his value up a little closer to where it was expected or is it time to find a replacement?

AJ Mass
  (11:19 AM)

Freeman is what he is... and his WR are simply not helping matters in terms of getting open and route running. I don't envision a huge bump in stats.

Ben (Chandler, AZ)

Your take on Tomlinson's performance from yesterday? Is he a regular flex play?

AJ Mass
  (11:21 AM)

I think it will be a matchup play... but the Jets running game as a whole has been ineffective, so having LDT's receiving skills in there will help that offense move better.

Chris (Lexington, KY)

What is your timeline for Foster? Think he plays this week?

AJ Mass
  (11:22 AM)

I thin he dresses and gets a few touches, but the Texans are playing with house money and as long as Tate is doing a decent job, why rush Foster back? He'll be fresh for the stretch, though...

Joe (KC)

How about some love for Lance Moore - pick him up ahead of Cruz or Torrey?

AJ Mass
  (11:27 AM)

Yes, before the injury held him up, I was certainly high on him and with Colston out, he's got plenty of potential - especially as teams start to key on Graham.

Fletch (Los Angeles)

Cedric Benson - what are you thoughts on him?

AJ Mass
  (11:29 AM)

Doesn't really matter, does it? He either gets suspended or he doesn't... you have to assume for now he'll miss some time. If he does play, then he's an 80 yard or so guy each week.

Jake (Cleveland)

Based on what you saw, how does the switch to Gabbert affect Mike Thomas' value? Potential flex play?

AJ Mass
  (11:31 AM)

Hard to judge that game due to the rain... I think Gabbert has a long way to go to get his feet under him, and all his receivers will see a production hit. MJD, on the other hand, should star.

Steve Lattimer (THE PROGRAM)

What's your take on SF RB--Kendall Hunter moving forward with Gore's injury history? Would you rather own him or Roy Helu?

AJ Mass
  (11:32 AM)

It's all about the touches, and Gore may not be able to go in Week 4. So, that means Hunter is a better play than Helu right now - although we'll have to see how the split in carries goes tonight.

Kevin (FL)

Should Mendenhall owners panic?

AJ Mass
  (11:34 AM)

Panic is not the right word, but if he doesn't get some production soon, you won't have to worry about whether or not to bench him - Redman will make that decision for you...

Jon #2 (Ann Arbor)

What's your take on the Patriot RB situation?

AJ Mass
  (11:36 AM)

Nothing new...but if BJGE can't score from in close, then Ridley will get more touches going forward. Belichick is unpredictable from week-to-week, so it's always going to be a roll of the dice here.

Eric (FL)

What happened in KC between McCluster and T. Jones? I didn't catch the game. Who saw more touches? Who looked more effective in your opinion and is either worth owning?

AJ Mass
  (11:38 AM)

Jones early, Dexter late... TJ is not a RB1 anymore, and while he may get a few more cracks at it, Dexter's the more ownable guy.

Jeff (Atlanta, GA)

BASEBALL: Is Jacoby Ellsbury really a 31 HR hitter? He might single handedly beat me in my fantasy baseball championship match up. Will this power be factored into his 2012 rank or is a significant regression expected?

AJ Mass
  (11:39 AM)

He's legit, and if you've followed me for any length of time, you know how strongly I feel about that...

Sidney Rice (Seattle)

Am I own able in 10 team leagues? Would you drop Eric Decker, Nate Burleson, or AJ Green to pick me up?

AJ Mass
  (11:40 AM)

Yesterday was nice, but I personally want no part of Rice. I just don't see Jackson week in and week out getting the ball to him.

Austin (PA)

TB Mike Williams still a good buy low or do you think he's just not going to be able to attain last year's stats?

AJ Mass
  (11:41 AM)

He's not good enough to survive double-teams and nobody else on that roster is good enough to draw them away.

Diggy (D)

Eli Manning is fighting to re-gain my confidence to start him... should I let him back into my heart? Matchups look good/great for most of the next 6-8 games

AJ Mass
  (11:42 AM)

Again, stats inflated due to poor Eagles tackling, but Eli has never had a problem getting the ball to his receivers. The issue has usually been drops. He's a 4K passer, so I don't know why owners aren't more confident in him.

Joey Greco (Cheaters)

Your thoughts on the chance The Daily Show becomes the starter in this new CAR offense. He's already the 3rd down and GL back...

AJ Mass
  (11:43 AM)

Still going to stay close to 50-50 for now, but I think first dibs now go to Daily - and if he starts strong, he stays on the field longer.

scott (dallas)

Deion Branch 0 catches with all those stats Brady put up.. Simply just an outlier in stats, right?

AJ Mass
  (11:45 AM)

Not concerned, because he did play nearly every snap... when the Pats find something that is working, they wait until you stop it to do something else. That's why Welker got 20 targets.

mike (tx)

did mcfadden get hurt? if so, is m.bush a good pickup?

AJ Mass
  (11:46 AM)

Run says he had a tight groin, but refused to call it an injury. I think he's fine... but it never hurts to have RB depth, and Bush gets touches regardless.

Jared (East Lansing)

I knew it would happen, the first week I start Steve Smith(CAR), he tanks. Thoughts on his performance? Bounce back next week?

AJ Mass
  (11:47 AM)

Did you see any of that game? It wasn't just raining, the old man was snoring. When the players have to swim to get open, I give them a freebie.

Hank (Cali)

Sell High on Michael Turner? The Falcons look content to let Ryan sling the ball 35+ times a game...

AJ Mass
  (11:49 AM)

How is this exactly a "sell high"? If anything, he's a "buy low".

Pauline (NY)

What do you think of Ochocinco's outing? Should I drop him for Lance Moore?

AJ Mass
  (11:49 AM)

Drop him like he dropped that sure TD.

Eric (Carson City)

Should i worry about jahvid best only 14 yards on the ground rreally concerns me?

AJ Mass
  (11:50 AM)

Lions weren't exactly running a balanced offense, and after falling behind at the half, it was mostly pass. I am a tad concerned at how many plays Mo Morris got, but overall, satisfied with Best.

Footsteps Falco (Washington Sentinals)

Obviously the weather conditions didn't help this week, but are you a believer in Cam Newton? Good enough to be a starter in a 14-team league?

AJ Mass
  (11:52 AM)

He'll have good weeks and bad weeks... I'm not locking him in as a starter just yet, but certainly he's in the upper half of the league right now.

Tom (Bath)

Would you go Thomas (MIA) or Tate from this point forward? Thanks.

AJ Mass
  (11:53 AM)

Thomas for the long haul, because at some point Tate does cede the job back to Foster.

Perry (Boston)

Which RB should I pick up off the waiver wire: Moreno, Brandon Jacobs, or LT?

AJ Mass
  (11:53 AM)

I'd go with Jacobs.

Steve (TX)

Drop Hightower now for The Daily Show ?

AJ Mass
  (11:54 AM)

Daily Show needs to be owned in all leagues, just on potential alone. On way up, versus Timmy, already at ceiling.

dez (wa)

Drop BGE for michael bush or darren sproles?

AJ Mass
  (11:55 AM)

I think Sproles has more value, especially in PPR.

Roy (Philly)

Yo AJ,ROS, Decker or Washington?

AJ Mass
  (11:56 AM)

I'd go with Decker.

DPIDDY (Michigan)

Mcgahee a solid bet for 10 - 12 points a week?

AJ Mass
  (11:57 AM)

No. I don't think he has the legs to manage that on a regular basis.

Brad (Cincy)

Is Moore going to continue being the #1 receiving option in Oakland?

AJ Mass
  (11:58 AM)

He's earned a spot in the mix at no worse than No.3, but when Ford and Murphy are healthy, they grab 1 and 2.

Mike (Sacramento)

Is Dallas Clark worth holding onto versus TE's like Gresham or Watson?

AJ Mass
  (11:59 AM)

I'd rather have Gresham, but it all comes down to Indy's line being able to protect Painter... if they can't, then Clark has to stay at home to help and that severely cuts his numbers.

Commish Question (Bham, AL)

Accepting a trade for Britt after he is injured, Fair or Fowl? The guy left a trade open for 3 days - including the Sunday Game Day....

AJ Mass
  (12:00 PM)

If an owner knows of the injury and then accepts in order to take advantage, he's being shady in my book. If deal was accepted pre-injury and simply was waiting to be approved, then it stands.

AJ Mass
  (12:01 PM)

That's the whistle, gang! Thanks for the Q's. I'm on Twitter if I didn't get to yours... and of course, be sure to check out my book "How Fantasy Sports Explains the World" --- Until the next time, good luck and may the odds be EVER in your favor.
