Good afternoon! Let's talk some fantasy football!
What do you realistically expect from CJ2K this weekend?
Johnson may actually have a solid weekend, as the Browns are not great against the run and Tennessee now has even more reason to lean on him. Could be a low double-digit game for Johnson, but then he has Pittsburgh and a bye the weeks after this one, so it could be his only good performance for the next month.
I look forward to your start/sits more than seeing my children, that's normal right? Brady, Welker, Bradshaw for Ben, Forte, A. Johnson. Who wins?
Maybe I should send the start-sits to your children so they can give them to you. Tough call on that trade, would probably go with the first trio.
Do you really expect the NE/OAK game to be a shootout? Enough so to start a dinged up Jacoby Ford over Julio Jones?
It should be a high scoring game, but Ford is returning from an injury. It's always a good idea to start healthy players over those returning from injury, so stick with Jones.
Had to think of my one question for the week and came up with this. Just want to get your thoughts on the following trade. I received Orton, the Daily Show and Daniel Thomas in exchange for LT and Mark Sanchez. I picked up Flacco in a deal last week and what I really liked was the two RBs for LT. I also already own DeAngelo so I now have the handcuff and can shop Williams. Is this sound thinking? That asked, I'll sit, read, and learn from here.
J.B., always like your posts but keep 'em brief, will 'ya? Generally speaking, like the trade.
As a backup who would you rather have year long? Rexy or JAson Campbell. I live in the land of no quarterbacks other than these.
Campbell has been more consistent and he's at home versus a suspect Patriots D. Those factors are what move him above Grossman on the TFS start-sit charts.
Trade FJax and Hightower for Larry Fitz and Felix Jones?
That would be trading healthy players for one player who is injured. Unless your team needs WR help, it's a no go.
Chances Hardesty cuts into Hillis' workload the ROS?
He'll probably vulture some carries but it's hard to see him keeping Hillis from keeping at 300+ carry/reception level (at least a pro-rated level, since he missed last week's game).
How do you feel about Sproles over SJax this week? It goes against everything I believe, but doesn't it make sense THIS week?
It sure does. Sproles is in a high-powered offense and is going up against a terrible coverage D. Jackson is hurt and may split carries with Williams (assuming Williams plays). Starting Sproles is the way to go.
Still believe in Manningham enough to buy low before Sunday?
Sure do. Had Eli been more accurate in the St. Louis game, Manningham would have scored two TDs and would not be available for the low price.
Is Daniel Thomas a legit fantasy starter now? Or will the hammy sideline his season?
The Dolphins gave him quality blocking last week but Thomas still didn't have a very high good blocking yards per attempt (GBYPA) metric. He's not going to be a game breaker but as long as he is the bell cow (and Bush looks terrible right now) and gets good blocking, he's a legit fantasy starter.
would you drop lynch for ridley? drop garcon for either amendola or simpson?
Ridley is a good RB and will get more carries as the season progresses, but he likely won't become the lead RB. Lynch is a lead RB, so keep him. Am all for dropping Garcon but Amendola is injured and Simpson has those off-field issues, so they might be lateral moves.
Hey KC! Are you expecting enough points in NE-OAK game to start Campbell over Orton (I know GB pass defense maybe even worse than the Pats??)
Would definitely start Campbell over Orton. Got to trust that Oakland offense, as Campbell has posted quality vertical YPA totals, and that was before he started getting his best WR/TE out there.
Thinking of starting Cam, Olsen, and Smith. To many eggs in one basket? Other option at WR is Bowe.
This could be a game where the Panthers offense struggles. Newton is looking more and more like a one-read and run type of QB right now and that isn't the type of system that works against a Chicago D. Bowe is rated higher than Smith in the TFS start-sit charts, so that would be the way to go.
Having a hard time choosing between starting Santana Moss or Lance Moore along side Santonio Holmes this week. Standard scoring. Please share some knowledge with me KC! Thanks!
In a case like this, it comes down to Moss is a starter and Moore will be a backup (assuming Colston returns as expected). Going with a starter is always the better option when all other things are relatively equal and that is the case here, so start Moss.
Now I have a machine gun. Ho....Ho....Ho......Fred Davis, Antonio Brown or David Nelson at WR3 this week? Thanks, KC!
Die Hard is an awesome movie. Heck, that whole series rules (well, don't know about the last one, as I haven't seen it yet). Nelson would be the way to go out of that group.
You like making wild predictions... so how about this one. I end up within 10 spots of Roddy White by the end of the year among Scoring Leaders. Aqib Talib can't touch me, I'm a BEAST, and this amount of extreme talent HAS to win out eventually. Prove me wrong?
They aren't wild predictions - they are contrarian thoughts. Wild predictions would be like saying the Red Sox were going to blow their big September lead. Jones will have a very good year but I don't think he'll end up quite that close to White in the final rankings.
KC!! Jordy or Boldin?? PPR
Boldin's got Revis this week. Got to go with Jordy.
You gotta see it. Throw in Justin Long, Kevin Smith, and Oliphant? Crazy over the top exhilarating stupidity.
I'm a big Kevin Smith fan (Clerks is one of the funniest movies of all time), so that movie will have to be moved up on the TFS/Mrs. Scientist must watch movie list.
really need some help, matt schaub or matt haselback for THIS week
Schaub has the seemingly tougher matchup but he also has a ton of pass receiving talent around him. Hasselbeck isn't in that boat, so Schaub is the way to go.
How limited will Dez and Colston be this week? I feel like starting J. Ford at flex instead.
Dan, you have one injured fantasy ballclub there! Ford is probably the best option, if only because Dez looks to be very banged up and the Saints will probably take their time getting Colston back to fully integrated into their offense.
Hey KC, Harvin or Manningham rest of season? Thanks!
Manningham. Harvin is good but if the Vikings season goes south, they could end up putting in Ponder and that would really hinder his upside.
KC - OH GURU OF THE WR!!! Lost Britt last week - which 2 of these 3 joins Calvin Johnson for me this week - Jordy Nelson, Johnny Knox, Jimmy Graham... Thanks!
If the Bears were as sold on Knox as the rest of us are, he'd be one of the options, but Martz is stubbornly sticking with Roy Williams. Got to go with Nelson and Graham because of that.
Blount and Boldin for V Davis and Hakeem Nicks? (I got mendy and cj2k already)
Keep Blount, as Mendenhall and CJ2K are both shaky prospects at the moment.
What are your thoughts on Blount ROS?
He's looked just like the 2010 version of himself this year. The matchup are starting to look better, so don't lose faith on this guy yet.
What's up Mr. Scientist? Dez Bryant, Manningham, Julio Jones, or Reggie Wayne. I'm torn, give me a nugget!
Bryant's hurt and Wayne will have a new QB on the road, so those are both low percentage options. Jones has fantastic upside potential in his matchup against Brandon Browner, but Manningham has the equally weak A.J. Jefferson. They are rated right next to one another on the TFS start-sit charts, so it's a coin flip between those two.
Which two stay on my roster in a PPR- Pettigrew, Olsen or Dallas Clark?
Pettigrew and Olsen. Clark has gotten lost in the Colts offensive woes.
How do you see Foster doing for the rest of the season?
It all depends on his health. If he's back at full strength, Houston will lean on him as a bell cow, or a least darn close to that.
Will Best end up as a top 10 RB by end of season?
He's got the talent but can he stay healthy? That's always been an issue with him and since that is likely to hinder his performance some time this year, he probably won't make the top 10.
Thoughts on Denarius Moore and Eric Decker for the ROS..........how good will they end up being?
Decker should win the starting job over Royal, so his prospects look to be good. Moore is highly talented but he probably won't see as many targets as Decker because he probably won't be given a starting role.
is Sproles a sell high right now in a .5 PPR?
A definite maybe in that the Saints offense always seems to divide the points and that trend could extend to him at some point. Just depends on what the sell high offer is.
Nate Washington against Joe Haden or David Nelson against a surprisingly stout Cincinatti secondary?
The Bengals secondary is good but it does have some weaknesses. Haden is one of the best CBs in the league, so start Nelson.
Is Wayne still worth starting over the likes of David Nelson, Nate Washington or even Santana Moss. Can't believe this question would ever surface as a Wayne owner.
Don't worry about Moss. He's got a very favorable matchup this week and will return to his high productivity levels. Regarding Wayne, he was already showing signs of reduced productivity before Peyton got hurt. Still hard to believe he would fall off quite this much, but his value last year was almost entirely predicated on target volume and that just won't happen this year.
Thanks for nothing, Mr. Scientist. You'd still keep me over the Tood Heaps and Jared Cooks of the world wouldn't you?
Hey, it's a cold-hearted world, Dallas. What have you done for your fantasy owners lately? Cook may end up getting more targets now that Britt is out, so keeping him over Clark would be recommended.
With Dez Bryant possibly missing sunday's game, who should I have as my WR2? Julio Jones, Nate Washington or Nate Burleson?
Can't say enough how favorable Jones' matchup is. Browner is a former CFL CB who shows why large CBs (he's something like 6' 4") don't usually work out. He's too slow and can't recover in coverage quickly enough. Jones will run him all over the field and have a very good day (possibly even a monster day).
Is it time to sell high because of me??
It's possible, but don't forget that he has a bye in week 6. If you can get by without him this week and next, he should be back to fuller strength for the stretch run. Having said that, if you get a great offer, making a trade might be worth it (just depends on how much the other person is willing to pay for an injured RB).
Actually my boy Walt Thurmond III will be shutting down Jones this Sunday, myself and Trufant will shut down Roddy on the other side!
Even if Seattle were to move Thurmond over to cover Jones, that would still be a highly favorable matchup. And Trufant hasn't been a very good CB for a while now, so that matchup isn't exactly daunting.
Okay now I need major HELP TFS, I have had D. Moore in my starting lineup all week because of his matchup with NE, and frankly everyone loves him, but I trust your fantasy advice more than anyones, PARTICULARLY for WR's... Now I think I should take him out and plug Julio Jones in, right?
Can't stress this enough - go with Jones this week. He ranks 16th on the TFS charts (which means he's starter quality) but may have more upside than anyone in fantasy football this week.
Here's a tough one for ya, Jason Campbell vs Tony Romo. Who ya got!
The healthy QB with a healthy group of players around him beats an injured QB with a questionable O line and injured players around him. Start Campbell.
Fred Jackson or B. Marshal for my flex spot?
Jackson is listed as an absolute must start and Marshall as a must start on the TFS charts. Both are quality options but Jackson is the flex pick.
Stress it a little more please...Julio or D Bowe?
Very funny! Jones over Bowe.
Does your take on Julio mean Ryan is a quality start, or do I want Cutler against the Panthers?
Ryan is a quality start, but Cutler is still the better start because he is at home and the Panthers secondary has weaknesses that are just as damaging as the Seahawks CBs.
AJ Green going to be good enough to get me by until Austin returns?
Green won't be hindered matchup-wise, as he's got Buffalo, then Jacksonville and Indianapolis. The Bills are getting in shootouts, the Jags secondary is awful and the Colts secondary just lost a starter and waived their very talented nickel CB. Green should hold up fairly well until Austin returns.
whats your take on Torrey Smith??
One great game against a very weak secondary on a team that may be getting ready to throw in the towel does not make a convincing case for Smith to be a great WR. He's worth picking up on a roster but until it becomes clear he can produce against stronger competition, don't count on him being a big fantasy help.
Manningham or moss....quick,the wife is coming
This is great - not only does this chat reduce productivity at work, it keeps people from doing chores around the house! Manningham has the better matchup but he's also returning from an injury (and it isn't like Moss has a tough matchup, either). Moss is the choice. Now get back to mowing that lawn!
Winslow or Clark this week? Rest of the season? This is a sad question...
Ain't that the truth. Winslow is the pick. He might have a good game this week since the Colts had to replace their SS.
I know you love Hakeem Nicks, but I'm starting to be worried about his injury history...if he goes off this week, deal him for another top 10 WR?
This is the first of three straight green-rated matchups for Nicks (green being the most favorable type of matchup for a fantasy WR). Don't sell him unless the offer is one is Godfather-like (i.e. you can't refuse).
Man, did this hour pass by in a hurry! Got to hit the road to spend some time with the family (Friday nights being about the only time during the season to do that). Two quick notes. The TFS material is always posted on Twitter @kcjoynertfs. More info about the weekly TFS start-sit charts can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com. Hope to see you all in next week's chats!
