Good morning gang... An Andy Rooney-free 60 minutes of fantasy chattage up ahead. Second cup of coffee in hand. Who is up first?
Is Hightower droppable now, a victim of the Shanahan fantasy rb curse?
The dreaded Shanahan committee appears to be at work again... with bye weeks, you may want to hang on to Timmy and cross your fingers, but he can't be started with any confidence.
Time to bench Big Ben? If so, who do I target on waivers?
Game-by-game, I fear. Certainly having TWO bad feet and a porous O-line is not exactly a plus... makes a guy like Andy Dalton look a lot more interesting.
Any word on AJ?
MRI to come, but I'd guess he won't be playing Week 5.
two parter: 1st, should we be worried about rob gronkowski only having one catch, he had other opportunities. Second, is Chris Johnsin back?
Targets are all that matters - Gronk got those, and simply didn't reel them all in, whether his fault or Brady's... those weeks will happen. Johnson back enough to play him against a no-longer super-scary Pitt D.
Any word on Mendenhall's status? Redman looks like a must-add in deep leagues.
Hamstring issue kept him out at the end, and I'd say that's not great news headed into a tough Ten contest. Redman should have already been a handcuff here...
Would you drop Grossman for T Jackson or Kyle Orton as a back up QB
I'd see when you need your backup (1st QB's bye week) and see what matchup looks best down the road. But I also think Grossman is better than Jackson and Orton may not have job for long if Broncos lose next two or three.
Thoughts on the Patriots backfield? Seems like Ridley may be catching up to BJGE...
Ridley played more because of Woodhead getting hurt than a negative to BJGE... but clearly, had the Lawfirm not scored the TD, even more people would likely have already snatched Ridley up. On the rise, but not yet a guaranteed start in fantasy.
How can Orton not have a job? The Denver Defense gave up 49 points!!! Hard to win when you have to play extreme Catch up!!!
Didn't say it was his fault... but if you're 1-6 and you need to see if Tebow has any shot at being an NFL QB, you make the change.
Knowshon Moreno... time to cut bait?
When Lance Ball is looking more promising...
Injury risk aside, Beanie legit?
Yes, I think he is...
R. Wayne was dropped in my league, pick him up and drop D. Moore or M. Colston? Thanks
I'd like to see how tonight's game goes before giving up on Wayne, but Colston, if healthy, has more upside.
Stupid Frank Gore. Does jack the first two weeks, then in the week where he loses his "starter" role(where upon I bench him), he goes for 100 and a TD. Will he be this frustrating to own the rest of the way?
Sorry, Mike, but I say "stupid" you -- don't get hung up on "starting" versus coming off the bench. All that meant was Hunter was getting his picture on TV. He had likely practiced the plays they were running in the first series, but as long as Gore was suiting up, there was no reason to think he wouldn't play.
What happened to V-Jax? Strain in his leg? How Vague is that!!
Teams aren't usually aware of the extent of injuries like that before Monday... looks like a day-to-day thing, rather than week-to-week, so for now, I do not worry.
Time to cut bait on Jermichael Finley? Seriously though, why is he so infuriating?
What is the problem? You really expect anyone to score 3-TDs every week? Finley is giving you exactly what you want from a TE.
I own both DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. What should I expect from the Carolina rb situation moving forward?
Time share should continue, and with DeAngelo looking better in Week 4, 50-50 maintains.
Would you trade Percy Harvin for Manningham? .5PPR
No, but Harvin is frustrating because he doesn't see the field nearly enough for my tastes. Plus Mario is having some issues with Eli, and while they probably fix that eventually, it may be a few weeks.
I have Calvin... so yeah actually I expect that now... Seriously dude is insane.
Yes, but the first 80 yards, no TD day, I'm sure someone will write in and ask "What's wrong with Megatron?"
Am I a must start in a 10 team league going forward?
No, I think it's a weekly decision, based on matchup.
Do start Benson over MJD from now on? Benson is almost a guaranteed 100 yarder every week...
Benson has some other issues that may make that call for you...
Thoughts on Victor Cruz.. Is he Eli's new Steve Smith?
Mario missed time with a concussion, and clearly was not on same page with Eli, so Cruz got a lot more PT than usual. I think the Steve Smith comparison is a good one, actually, because eventually, he'll be limited to the slot and may see more targets, but fewer yards.
My hands looked like stone last night. Was it me or Sanchez?
Without Mangold, there's no time for Sanchez. That's the issue.
Would you drop Starks for Sproles or Torain?
No, because this week, Helu might suddenly get 20 carries. You simply don't know...
Hasselbeck for real?
I'm expecting a big fall this week.
Plaxico Burress or AJ Green?
Green, and it is not even close.
Is Titus Young worth holding onto? Do you think he could become the #2 in Detroit?
Not good enough for fantasy owners on a regular basis. He'll have "No. 2" days, and "No. 3" days...
Hey, I do have a pulse!
CODE BLUE! CODE BLUE!
I've waited the whole season for Arian Foster. Now that he's back and had a great game, should I hold onto him or try and trade him in case he gets hurt?
Are you going to trade him for someone who can't get hurt? It's the NFL... everyone is at risk... enjoy him while you got him.
Matt Forte a top 5 back?
Certainly playing like one...
Loved your book AJ. I was just offered Nicks and Mendenhall for Ryan Mathews and Danarious Moore in a 12 team non-PPR league. This is a no-brainer right?
Not as no-brainer as you'd think. Nicks > Moore, but with Mendenhall's injury status in the air and Steelers O-line problems -- it's a pretty fair deal. What is a no-brainer? That my book is a good read! (Shameless plug: http://www.amazon.com/How-Fantasy-Sports-Explains-World/dp/161608295X)
Sell high on Michael Turner? Or is he finally getting his act together?
I'm more in the sell camp... YPC still low and if I could get out for value, I would.
What to do with Tate? Non Foster owner?
Not much you can do... he's hurt, and even if he can play this week, it's going to be the Arian Foster show. You have to either sell high or bench.
Can Welker keep this up or should I sell high? What is selling high?
Welker can keep this up... selling high means to trade a guy who has outperformed his abilities for a guy who has underachieved but ready to make up for lost time... not possible to do with Wes,IMO.
With Mendenhall dealing with injuries, could Isaac Redman succeed?
Sure. Redman was doing well before Rashard's injury... now can he overcome the line problems? Probably not enough to get 100/week should he have to carry the load... but maybe enough to give you 60-80 and the odd TD.
Better pickup for the ROS: Ridley or Antonio Brown?
Forte and TB Mike Williams for Mathews and Desean Jackson ... who wins?
DeSean side... very down on Mike "South" Williams.
What do you think about Jermaine Gresham? Is he turning the corner? Better play than Dallas Clark going forward?
Solid TE in Gresham, and if Painter needs extra blockers, Clark's value will dip... let's watch a game though before we trade/cut all our Colts.
After holding on to Amendola since his injury he may now require surgury??? What a waste of a roster spot.
That's the way it goes sometimes... Colston comes back early, Amendola may need surgery. Injuries are an X-Factor than you can't predict.
If Henne is out for any amount of time, does B-Marsh's value dip even more?
I don't think it comes to that... it was Henne's non-throwing shoulder and he'll have a bye week to heal.
Whats your opinion on picking someone up off the waiver wire just to trade them. Theres some good QB's left in my league...
Smart strategy if you can get a deal... most players are on the wire for a reason, but if you pick up a Redman-type and can get something you need more than a RB for him from Mendenhall's owners, you're making your team better.
Hey AJ. Ethics question. What do you think of mid-game add/drop? Is it right to have player transactions taking place during the games? As long as the rules allow it, it's legal of course. But it doesn't sit well with me.
I'm of the mindset that you need to give equal opportunity to all pickups... if you're watching Houston and see AJ go down, you shouldn't be able to add Walter or Jacoby to your team right then and there. Now you're rewarding the wrong thing.
Colston startable next week or better to hit waiver wire? Have bye week issues.
He came out the game in one piece, so I'd feel comfortable starting him next week.
Believer in Decker?
Yes, both before Week 3 and even more so now... might be even more dangerous once Royal returns.
Pretty dominant last night! But I'm on a bye next week. Which D would you pick up? Tampa, Indy, or Minny?
Early, as I've not yet projected it out, but first instinct is Indy (tonight pending, of course).
Torain = must add, or are you staying away from the WAS RBs altogether?
I grab for depth's sake, but odds are I'm not going to start if my current crop of RBs have games.
Is Lance Moore more of a Devery Henderson inconsistent type than a solid weekly WR3?
Once the Saints get into more of a rhythm, it will shake out better... Moore > Devery, but Sproles and Graham get too many targets for him to be a week-in, week-out must start.
VICK? Back to top 3 Fantasy QB, or too many questions in Philly?
If Vick starts, you start him. The only thing that hurts his fantasy value right now is his injury-prone-ness-itude.
What's your opinion on putting a player, designated as out (O), on IR to pickup a player on waivers or FA?
League rules should be specific on this, but my feeling is the IR is for players who are injured for for multiple weeks, and not for a guy who might miss just one game. Use your bench for those guys...
If you have the league leading fantasy kicker, do you drop him on the bye week or try and find someone else to drop?
If it's a guy you can afford to lose, fine... personally, I rarely keep a kicker through his bye in the majority of leagues in which I play.
WHO'S THE EARLY GRAB out of the week 5 matchups: Grossman, Cassel, Campbell, Dalton, Tavaris, McNabb, THANKS AJ!
Donovan marks the end of the chat... kind of fitting, I think. Thanks for the Q's... twitter awaits for those I could not get to... Please do check out my book, and until the next time: Good luck and may the odds be EVER in your favor!
