Chat with Bryan Broaddus

james (eugene, or)

Romo is not blameless, but, does Garrett not know how to coach situational football? 24 points up you run and punt, run and punt! Lean on the D, they were playing great.

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:04 PM)

Good Morning Guys...If I am Garrett I am trying to run the ball. The defense is playing well enough to win that game. Had three backs that were active in the game, try and shorten the game.

Adam (Toronto)

Why didn't Rob Ryan mix things up to get more people in Stafford's face? Not one sack

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:07 PM)

Ryan did some things scheme wise that made some sense but the fact was that no one was able to get home. I was shocked that Ware didnt play better, he was matched up against a tackle that he should have had more of a productive game against. He was one on one a bunch.

Brent Thompson (Charleston, SC)

Can we not take a baseball approach and have Romo as our Starter and as soon as he shows signs of struggle (INT or Fumble) we bring in Kitna as a closer?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:09 PM)

I saw Kitna throw an interception against 49ers down the middle field as well. He can make mistakes too.

Shawn (NC)

Bryan, What the heck is going on with Romo & Bryant? Both looked great initially but then they fell off after or shortly before halftime. I'm sick or Romo screwing up!

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:12 PM)

I havent had a chance to study the offensive part of the game yet, I am sure there were plays where Bryant wasnt where he needed to be on the play.

Marney (Corpus Christi, TX)

Do you think Romo is what he is...Brett Favre, version 2.0? Can Cowboys win a Super Bowl with Romo in spite of stupid turn overs like Packers did with Favre?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:13 PM)

When Favre was Romo's age, he had already won a Super Bowl, Playoff games and was MVP. You can live with mistakes when you at least have that in your back pocket.

sonny (Charleston)

Was Bryant hurt in the fourth quarter? I don't recalling him in the game and if he was, he seem not running full speed?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:15 PM)

Bryant will continue to struggle with his health, there is no way for him to get well without rest. Its something he is going to have to deal with all season.

Marney (Corpus Christi, TX)

What happened to Tyron Smith on that last sack that killed the Cowboys final drive? Why did he get beat so badly?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:17 PM)

Smith was too high on the last pass. He was way too upright, technique was poor. He has struggled with power before. His biggest problem.

Marney (Corpus Christi, TX)

What adjustments did the Lions make in second half that allowed them to drive consistently against Cowboy D after getting shut down in first half?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:19 PM)

They were able to hit some routes in the middle of the field. Cowboys went to some zone coverage and the Lions took advantage of it. Played more man in the first half and coverage was outstanding.

Jim (Maine)

In your honest opinion as a scout. Can this team ultimately win with their lack of composure in big spots. I haven't seen this team win a clutch game where it would change my mind that It can win

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:21 PM)

If the quarterback continues to make poor decisions in games, there will be struggles.

Carlton (Florida)

Bryan, who do we blame for this loss... Garrett for all his play calling in the second half or Romo 3 INT?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:22 PM)

I think that Garrett and Romo both share in this loss. I would have thought that Ware would have been better as well.

JP (Miami)

Bryan, do you see the cowboys making any trades or free agent signings to bolster the secondary or struggling running game

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:26 PM)

This front office is always looking at the players on other teams. As far as making trades, I dont think they will do anything right now. Get a cornerback for New England game and Bruce Carter after that.

sonny (Charleston)

With Bryant continue to struggle with the hamstring, and a 27-10 lead, Garretts call playing must get better...And quit making Romo a superstar QB! He didn't get drafted for a reason. And quit putting him in bad situation. Simplify the offense and shorten the game with screens and draw plays and short passes to Witten!

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:30 PM)

Bryant is struggling with his health. The Red Zone play calling needs to be better and running the football would have helped but limited mistakes would have helped too.

Steve (Suprise, TX)

Vince Manuwai needs a phone call...........Nagy can sit and learn

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:31 PM)

I will study the offense after this chat but I have a feeling that Nagy, Costa and Kosier didnt play poorly.

Jim (Maine)

If you were in charge, would you move on from Romo after 2011?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:33 PM)

I was on the staff that brought Romo here. I have a different view of the player but I understand what everyone is thinking right now. I have learned to take the good with the bad. I do believe that the QB situation needs to be thought about in the draft soon.

Mile (Irving hotel)

Speaking of the draft, what are some draft day priorities? Corner back, DLineman, etc ???

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:36 PM)

I think that the first position that the Cowboys will look at a corner then work from there. Defensive end is another position too.

Chris (Chicago)

Let's look to we beat NE? Gotta run run run, no?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:39 PM)

With the BYE this week, will get more of a look at the Pats, it did seem like against Buffalo they struggled with that. I did not see how the Raiders attacked them. We all know that the Cowboys will have to deal with Brady too.

Bryan (Springdale, AR)

Where were the screen passes and dump-offs to Felix yesterday? How is it possible as a coach to get away from what wins you games?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:40 PM)

Lions play a lot of man coverage with their defense. Tough to screen pass when they are in that look.

Sara (Austin)

Does Rob Ryan still think Calvin Johnson would be the 3rd best WR on the Cowboys?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:41 PM)

I was standing right there when he said it, for three quarters, he was dead on right.

Joe (Phoenix, AZ)

Will someone PLEASE ask Garrett why he doesnt run the ball up 24 points or at least take the pass option away from Romo when in the lead?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:42 PM)

At 4pm today, we will have our shots at Garrett and what he was thinking.

Mike (@ Work)

Bryan,Please explain why the RB's have such a hard time with down, distace, and situation. These are things that we learn in PeeWee not the NFL!!Thx

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:44 PM)

That was a poor job on Felix part. Last week it was Choice going out of bounds at the end of the game. Funny because Garrett prides himself on working on situations like that.

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:45 PM)

Alright guys...thanks for the time today...back to the Football Lab to finish this game off. Check out ESPN for my game review on Tuesday.
