Greetings all. Hope your day is as lovely as Nashville's. Let's do this.
Is it only a matter of time before the Titans really begin to miss Britt?
They will certainly miss him at times way more than they did in Cleveland.
Displaced Texans fan here...should I have reason to believe that the Texans are actually legit this year?
Yes. I still have mental toughness/ team personality questions. But they can be pretty good.
who is the REAL contender. Titans or Texans. And who do you have wining that matchup in 2 weeks
Both look real to me right now. And I don't pick games.
Is Matt Hasselbeck the MVP of the AFC South through the first quarter of the season?
I feel comfortable saying yes.
Paul, do you think if the Colts win only a small number of games this year (2-4) will/should anyone's job be on the line among the staff? HC, DC, GMs, etc? And what was up with Pat Angerer playing 15+ yards off the line of scrimmage?
Colts play to keep stuff in front of them. They were clearly willing to give up plays over the middle. Caldwell is no lock, more because of shift from Bill Polian to Chris Polian than because of Peyton-less season, I think.
Your thoughts on Del Rio coaching the Jags past this season?
It's a mess. I don't know how he could put together a staff unless he's extended, and I can't see how he's extended.
Happy Thursday KP! In a perfect system, what would the ideal role for Mike Thomas be? Were the Jaguars wise in extending someone who appears only to be a slot WR?
I think he's a good player. I think that's reasonable money. Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc., who's really smart, thinks Thomas has qualities of both Wes Welker and Steve Smith. I think he's a No. 2 who you can kick inside for three-wide.
Looks like most everyone is picking Pittsburg to win, but given the state of both their offensive and defensive lines it seems like these people are basing their picks on the past. Do you think the Titans can have their way on the inside and fly home happy?
I think the Titans have a good chance at winning.
Through 4 games, Pat Angerer and Kavell Conner are number 1 and 2 in tackles in the NFL. Is it because they are talented or because they are just on the field so much?
Some of both. But measuring one team against another in tackles is a bad idea. It's not an official stat. Those are stat booth or coaches counts.
How you feeling about the yanks ? You think we will see CC?
Don't think he'll be needed. Well-played close win.
Which Texans wr stands to gain the most opportunity from Johnsons injury..
As far as deep stuff, Jacoby Jones. Overall, going from zero to something, Bryant Johnson.
I have been a life long Jaguars fan, but how long must we endure the tenure of Jack Del Rio & Co. Year after year it's the same story. I'm so sick of hearing the excuses. The Jaguars need to head in a different direction. Despite the mediocre play, the fans have shown up and kept games from being blacked out. I have been to 4 games myself. The fans have done their part by showing up and spending hard earned money on an inferior product. It's time ownership listens! Is there any chance there could be a change in coaching by the bye week if things continue the way they are?
Who do you want in-season? It's not going to be an outsider. That is super rare. So Dirk Koetter or Mel Tucker. Are you excited by the prospect of one of them? I think Koetter would open things up, for sure.
Bill Williamson was asked a great question in his AFC West chat so I will ask you the same...In all of your years of covering the AFC South, what has been your most exciting experience at a game?
I was at the 10 yard-line on the side of the field where Kevin Dyson scored the Music City Miracle. Hard to top that.
Think the Colts stick with Painter?
Crazy not to right now. Though I don't think he's Unitas, as a lot of people seem to.
Do you think Jim Tressel, being given a pretty simple job this season, has a chance of being the Colts' defensive coordinator next year? OSU's defense was great with him as head coach.
You're eliminating him from head coaching consideration?
whats worse, the chatters pretending to be an actual player/coach/famous person or those who accuse you of being a TN homer?
B, by far. Pretend celebrities are great.
There are some rumblings around town that Tyson Alualu?s knee problem could be limiting his production. I?m almost certain he has not been 100% since the regular season began. What say you?
Not dominant right now.
Afternoon, PK. I'm feeling pretty good about the upcoming Colts-KC game...definitely a winnable game, but lots of holes of course. What do you think will be the biggest roadblock? O-Line problems?
O-line is biggest problem until further notice or next slew of injuries.
It would seem that both the Titans and Texans are front runners for attempting to scoop up T.O. Do you think either team will take the bait?
It would seem? Why? They are looking to blow up their locker rooms? Titans can win without Britt and Johnson will be back by the time Owens will be healthy, according to his claims of a miraculous ACL repair recovery.
Paul, I know it's still early, but with questions around teams like NY Jets, Bills, Steelers and Raiders, do you think Titans and Texans could both make playoffs?
Not impossible like I would have said before the season.
Hey PK, you watching me tonight?
You'll be on my DVR. Watching Yanks.
Willing to guess what the Colts record would be right now if Peyton Manning were healthy and had played all year?
Im one of your heros...admit it...i can hear the love in your voice on teh radio in teh morning. say it....say it....
That's you loving me, Chief.
What area of need should the colts address in the 1st round? (Provided Luck is not there)
Depends somewhat on what they do with Reggie Wayne and Robert Mathis. Best WR, DT, S, G could all be in play.
How bad was David Garrard that the Dolphins passed over him for Sage Rosenfels
Reportedly he passed on them, based on money and opportunity. They want Matt Moore to have the chance to be the guy.
What's Jeff Fisher up to? Does his name come up for future jobs? Perhaps Jacksonville?
Enjoying a year off, watching his son play at Auburn. I expect he'll take a job. I don't expect it will be Jacksonville.
During the AFC 411 videos, you are the only person to talk about all 4 teams in the division. Keep up the good work!
I only did it this week. It's a pretty short segment to cover all four every week. We rotate around based on developments and story lines.
how big of a factor will Ahmard Hall be on his return to the O
Back with Titans, Hall will challenge CJ
Do the Texans stop McFadden and force Campbell to make plays. Or do you think the strategy is to eliminate the passing game and force the run.
Would never try to force the run with that guy.
Rank these rookies in terms of play this year- Ayers, Gabbert, Carter, Costanzo.
Ayers, Carter, Costanzo, Gabbert. Presume we all know JJ Watt would be first if he was an option.
With the way the season has gone for the Colts, do you see Robert Mathis and/or Reggie Wayne leaving the Colts in Free Agency this off-season?
I think they'd prefer to stay.
Do you think Gene Smith contract gets extended? What percent do you put on the Jags giving him a new contract?
I think he should be extended. You have him draft your franchise QB, now let him surround him and see what you can do. Make a change to a guy who doesn't like Gabbert and you're starting from zero.
With Painter at the wheel who's stock rises more, Wayne or Addai?
If you're making me pick, I think Addai probably.
Have you caught any of the"On the Nose" with Shaun Cody? They are funny and it is encouraging to see how well the guys on the team get along. How much of that chemistry carries over to the field. I even noticed a twit convo between the rb group to see who was picking up dinner
Yeah, I posted the Antonio Smith ninja one. Thanks for reading! Most teams have that chemistry.
Why does it seem like the Colts always have awful injury problem? Is it just luck of the draw or is it a conditioning problem?
I don't think conditioning is the right word. You think Ben Ijalana tears an ACL because he's not fit enough? Or that Brackett's shoulder get messed up because he's not conditioned?
best running back in the game right now?
Right this second, I'd say McFadden.
I know this is a long way away, but say Indy gets the number 1 pick. Do they take Luck to succeed Peyton eventually?
I would. I think they do. I think it would be Bill Polian's gift to Chris Polian.
Jags season going as you thought it would, or is it worse than you expected?
Worse. I thought they could be OK.
I think you are right they would take Luck, but wow if you thought Favre/Rogers was ugly...no way PM takes that well. The thing people seem to forget though is does Luck want to be in Indianapolis? He still has a year of eligibility left, for example I bet there is 0% chance he leaves Stanford if the Bungles end up at #1.
He's coming out. I agree with you on Manning, will be hard for him. But I don't think he will be a jerk to Luck, just perhaps to the people who drafted Luck.
What do you think about Gary Brackett's future in Indy? It's looking obvious that the Colts Run D has held up significantly better with Angerer in the middle (except for dropping pass coverage).
I think, sadly, we've probably seen the last of Brackett.
Which game will be the bigger surprise? The Tigers win over the Yankees tonight, or the Titans over Pittsburgh on Sunday?
Hey Chief, when Manning comes back, no matter when, since i know nothing about that kind of injury, will it be 100% or does that injury take some flexibility out of his motion?
He loses like 10 percent of his range of motion in neck. Nothing he can't play with.
Assuming the titans continue to protect hasselbeck like they have, do the titans wait till hasselbeck plays out his full contract before they stick locker in there? kinda like an aaron rodgers brett favre situation?
Off four games we're going to predict three years? That's a little much.
I've heard Andrew Luck comparisons to Elway to Manning while they were in college. If Manning was so highly touted in college, then why was everyone thinking Ryan Leaf was the better pick?
People thought Ryan Leaf was outstanding too. That's why he's such a giant bust. Also the Colts didn't think Leaf was better. They took Manning No. 1.
Okay Pete Kawhoski, considering your knowledge of Garrard; what do you make of the reports that he's unwilling to sign w/ Miami? Does he have any future in the league, or is he done?
Doesn't seem super motivated to get back in and show the Jags were wrong. But an injury somewhere could create an opportunity he likes.
Watt has been that good? Is that hype more a byproduct of the love Houston is getting thus far? What about the Titans with Casey and Klug?
Watt is fantastic. Best rookie in the division, by a good margin, I think. Klug and Casey are good, but not Watt good.
If Titans beat Steelers - will they make the playoffs with 4-1 start?
No one makes the playoffs at 4-1. They make them all play 16.
I like him as a blocker, but can you give me any assurance that we will see fewer passes thrown to Ahmard Hall than in previous years (what creativity! ? oops, he fumbled)
Ahmard Hall is good with the ball in his hands. Quicker than you think. I have no problem with a pass to him here and there.
What is the hype with Blaine Gabbert? I see he can throw the deep ball but it is nowhere near the WR! Do the Jaguars get a deep threat WR to take advantage of that?
First order of business next year, absolutely.
More important for determining the Division Champ, Titans @ Texans in Week 7 or Texans @ Titans in Week 17?
Can you refer me to the season where Week 7 had the decisive game?
With AJ out, do you see Kubiak using Casey more or was that a one-time gimmick?
I think they will use him more.
Do you assume we will look back on this season and say, "Why were we ever worried about Chris Johnson?"
I think it's far more likely we will be saying that than anything like, "Boy, those first few games really should have told us he's done..."
Hey Pat Kahusky, What about Slaton? You see him having any impact with his new team, or are his best days behind him?
I worry about his neck.
Why would T.O be a bad fit for TN. I personally think that he was to blame for a lot of the issues in Philly, But that he was Romo's scape goat in Dallas, He didn't cause any issue in Buffalo, and was quiet in Cincinnati gaining over 900yrds opposite Chad Ochocinco/Johnson. I think bring him in, he knows this is his last Woo RA, He played college here at UTC.
He's so far removed from UTC, I can't believe you'd think that has anything to do with anything. He tore an ACL in late winter or early spring. What is he a mirackle healer? He's a distraction everywhere he goes. Munchak wants nothing to do with that sort of thing.
Since when did you change your name to Pat? It was Pete last time I checked. We haven't been communicating well and I feel left in the dark.
Ten hours of rehab a day don't leave you much time for me anymore, sadly...
You think if Andre was in Detroit, he'd produce similar numbers to Megatron?
the Texans are a much better team on paper than the Titans. why entertain the idea that the titans may be better?
Because I've never seen a season played on paper. Because the Texans have a habit of folding.
With perfect health would you take Andre Johnson or Calvin Johnson?
It's a close call now. Calvin's four season's younger, hard not to lean his direction.
Do teams like the Jaguars, Panthers, Titans, Vikes, Jets draft Andrew Luck if given the opportunity?
Here are the team's that shouldn't draft Andrew Luck: Green Bay, New Orleans, New England. That's it, that's my list.
what's going on with the colts' secondary? johnson was terrible against the bucs. how long until lefeged takes the job from caldwell at safety?
It's a mess back there. I just don't understand.
If it were up to Koetter, do you think he would prefer to have kept Garrard another year while grooming Gabbert?
I think he'd have just as soon moved on. But can't say for sure.
I know he has no weapons outside of MJD and Lewis, but what exactly did Gabbert even do to warrant the hype? In a system designed for inflated numbers (see: Daniels, Chase), he was not good at all at Missouri. Should the Jags really expect him to be a better pro player?
Yes. Guys can learn, grow, be coached. You think everyone comes in to the NFL and is exactly what he was in college? The guy had a great arm and moves well.
So this Titans has an established record of success?
These Titans do not have an established record of folding.
Which RB in the AFC south is gonna have the best year?
I think it could be Foster.
Can you tell Whitney to kill the laugh track...
It's on the list for next time I talk with her.
Follow up question Why hasn't anyone signed T.J Houshmandzadeh?
He's slow and done?
Thats the second dumbest thing Ive ever heard. Why would you not trade the Luck pick for a kings ransom? Luck could be a bust, anyone could.
But the king's ransom is a guarantee? You get a franchise quarterback when you can, and this guy is the closest to can't miss there has been in a long time.
As for the UTC connection I was simply stating because it could be a good thing for him to finish his career somewhere it kind of began from. I just don't think the Titans have the luxury of getting comfortable with the core of receivers that they have now. If not T.O why not try T.J Houshmandzadeh a try out.. Just seems like this is what happened last year with Fisher getting overly comfortable with the lack of players.. If that makes any sense...
Why do you think Housh is good? The whole league is uninterested. You knowing his name doesn't mean he's an upgrade. And you should applaud the Titans for not wanting slow receivers. They got Donnie Avery, he's the addition. He's also fast.
Why shouldn't the Patriots draft Andrew Luck? Tom Brady is only a year younger than Manning (and he has a bum knee too).
Debated that. I wouldn't have a problem if they did. Just figured they have five years of Brady.
Does Collie look a step slower to you?
Haven't seen him much.
Forget Whitney, Chief. You should come hang out with us at Greendale Community College. We're the funniest show on television right now. (Community 8/7 central)
I disagree. You are not a funny show.
Any chance Kenny Britt comes back for post season if Titans make it?
No. IR means done for the year. And despite what T.O. wants us to believe, ACLs take a long time.
Best backup RB in the South...
Hard not to say Ben Tate right now.
Don't bother itll be cancelled by Thanksgiving.
Except for the part where they just ordered the full season.
To Joey, the Colts traded John Elway for a kings ransom. They would have been better off drafting Marino or Kelly. Never, ever, ever pass on the potential stud QB.
Steven gets final word. Thanks for coming people. Please keep reading.
