Todd Archer
  (1:03 PM)

Sorry for the delay. We just got out of the locker room. Here we go ...

croy410@yahoo.com [via mobile]

Do think Jerry is going to draft a Qb if Romo dont get it done this year?

Todd Archer
  (1:04 PM)

I think they'll look at a quarterback whether he gets it done or doesn't get it done honestly. He's 31. Jon Kitna is expected to retire. Stephen McGee is signed through 2012. It just makes sense to start thinking about the future at the spot.

Ft worth tx [via mobile]

do u think the cowboys could ever when a super bowl with tony romo , i just havnt seen it out of him i dont think he could that many important games in row tp get them there, and do u feel stephen mcgee could ever be a starter

Todd Archer
  (1:06 PM)

McGee is not the answer if you're talking Super Bowl. I do think Romo is capable of leading a team to a Super Bowl. I realize I'm probably in the minority with that opinion right now, but he can do special things. Obviously he has to play better but I don't think he is a hopeless cause.

Ian (Atl, GA)

Who's definitely going to be back after the bye?? Who might be back?? Who do the Cowboys not expect back from injury after the bye??

Todd Archer
  (1:07 PM)

Scandrick, Austin, Church, McCray, Kosier, Sensabaugh, Fiammetta should all be back for the New England game. Hatcher is still a little bit of a question, as is Buehler. I think Dockery could be two more weeks.

Chris, WV [via mobile]

While Tony Romo is taking a beating for his mistakes, is the rib injury causing his throws to be off.Chris cooley had alot of room to talk he handles the ball what 5 times a game if hes lucky Tony handles it every snap. Chris dont even rank as the best at his position on his own team.

Todd Archer
  (1:08 PM)

Cooley says things just to draw attention to himself. It was foolish for him to say those things. I agree with you Chris.

Justin (Idaho)

Which player has been the biggest surprise to you this season?

Todd Archer
  (1:09 PM)

Biggest surprise? I guess you have to say Bill Nagy. I didn't expect the seventh rounder to be a starter. I wondered if he would've made the club.

pat (raleigh)

i think robinson should be the number 2 reciever.what do u think?

Todd Archer
  (1:11 PM)

Over who? Dez? You must have been eavesdropping on a conversation in the media room because that was discussed and dismissed. I'm assuming you're not talking about demoting Austin, right? Bryant makes too many plays. He has to be refined at his position, but I'll take the guy who can make nothing out of something. Robinson will be a decent No. 3, mixing in with Ogletree.

shanard (utah)

Todd, with mistake free football and a healthy team cud we reel off 6 straight games or more injury free (which is not likely)..

Todd Archer
  (1:13 PM)

Just be great today. Oh, sorry. Jason Garrett has rubbed off on me. I'm not seeing them winning six in a row because I don't believe they win at New England. But I think after that you could see them get hot, which will set them up for the second half. The next four home games are vs. St. Louis, Seattle, Buffalo and Miami. They MUST have all of those.

al (god's country (Tetons!!))

Hey Todd, do u think the bye week will allow for d. murray to get more involved in the screen and passing game?

Todd Archer
  (1:14 PM)

First off God's country is Medway, Mass. Secondly, I'm not sure Murray will get that much more time. The hardest thing for a rookie is to pick up the blitz package. He missed all of camp. I like the bits and pieces we've seen of him but I don't think he's ready to get more work.

Dan (Longview, TX)

Any chance with all the receiver injuries the Cowboys have that they look at bringing T.O. back?

Todd Archer
  (1:15 PM)

Dan, Dan, Dan. You cannot be serious. Owens trashed Garrett. You really think Garrett would want him?

Dominic (Irving)

Sitting at 2-2, how do you see the next 4 weeks playing out? Will the Cowboys still be in contention in the NFC East? I see the Cowboys at 5-3. Thoughts?

Todd Archer
  (1:17 PM)

That means you have them winning at NE or Philly. I can see the Philly win over the Patriots win. I think 4-4, but I wouldn't rule out a win in Philly. The Eagles' dream season isn't so dreamy.

Donnie in Surprise AZ [via mobile]

Can the Boys compete for a trip to the "big game"? If not when can we expect them to?

Todd Archer
  (1:19 PM)

You're in Surprise, Ariz, and your attention isn't on the Rangers? To answer your question, I guess I need to know how to define compete. I think they can be in the mix in the group after Green Bay and New Orleans and then you get into the "you never know" category.

Nathan (Marshall )

Hope when there is hopelessness. What to do about Romo. Obviously he is the starter for the remainder of the season, and surely we look to use a high draft pick for a signal caller next year. Will he be on the roster in 2012? How much longer will we ride the romocoaster?

Todd Archer
  (1:20 PM)

Romo will be on the roster next year, yes. I think he's the starter through 2013, depending on the draft.

Mike (Easton, PA)

I don't like that Spencer has suddenly started working hard and not taking plays off in his contract year. It seems like once he gets his extension he'll fall back to 2010 form. What are your thoughts on this and wha are the chances the team brings him back?

Todd Archer
  (1:21 PM)

Would you rather have him not work hard? I've seen a difference in Spencer's approach. Maybe it is all tied to his contract year and that's something the Cowboys will have to weigh. Heck, not just the Cowboys but any team that would sign him. I think he's had a great start to the year. I think the Cowboys wait until the offseason to re-sign him on a longer deal. I might be wrong on this, but I think he's turned a corner.

james (Bville)

Do you think we need a powerfull running back to help out on those goal line situations..I feel we need a Brandon Jacobs type player for those mid to short yard situations..

Todd Archer
  (1:23 PM)

They had a Brandon Jacobs back and his name was Marion Barber. I think they need to block better in those situations and the runners need to hit it harder. They're not going to find a Jacobs' type out there now, so I think they need to re-visit how they scheme it up. They try to run some power and I don't think they're a power team just yet.

Rylan (Wylie, TX)

Todd, I'm a die hard Cowboys fan and they won the Superbowl win I was Born (1993). Do you think they will ever go Back to the SB??

Todd Archer
  (1:25 PM)

Ever is a long time, so I will say, yes, they will get back to a Super Bowl. But there is now a generation of Cowboys fans that don't remember the Super Bowls of the 90s and they've seen the Mavericks and Rangers win here recently. Not that this town would move away from Cowboys' centric but there's definitely a different feeling toward baseball and hoop around here.

Nick (NYC)

I think the cowboys go 10-6 this year based on what we've seen so far; do you agree Todd? (take into consideration Garret &Co will manage Romo better moving foward and the fact that the two losses were b/c we shot ourselves in the foot and frankly the cowboys outplayed both the Jets and Lions for 75% of the game)

Todd Archer
  (1:25 PM)

I said 10-6 at the start of the year, so I can't back off of it yet.

Patrick (Boston Ma)

Todd I don't think it is out of the question to beat the Pats. Rob Ryan shut down Brady last year as Browns DC. The Cowboys have 2 weeks to prepare and if you have watched the Pats there Defense is not good. Cowboys will be healthy and hungry. I think many will be surprised.

Todd Archer
  (1:26 PM)

Brady has not lost a home game since '06 I believe. It's not out of the qustion, but I just don't see it happening. You make a good point about Ryan in Cleveland last year. The Browns were coming off the bye week then, too.

Todd(Allentown Pa) [via mobile]

Can you elaborate a little more about ur conversation about Dez being the No. 3 until he's more healthy n maybe "gets it." That's what I envisioned what was said in your media room. Am I right?

Todd Archer
  (1:27 PM)

I wish it was that educated. It wasn't. Somebody just tossed it out there. I was like Manute Bol and swatted it away.

Mike (Easton, PA)

What are your thoughts on Baylor's Robert Griffen III being drafted as Romo's replacement? The kid can play (at least in college) and he'd get to sit and learn for a few years behind Romo.

Todd Archer
  (1:28 PM)

I love watching Griffin play. He's exciting. I don't know enough about his game, however, to see if it translates to the NFL. And for the sake of Art Briles, I hope he comes back for his last season.

Mike (@ Work)

Do you see Jerry selling the future for a ticket to the Luck sweepstakes?

Todd Archer
  (1:29 PM)

Hmmm. You can never discount anything when it comes to Jerry Jones, but I think he understands the value of draft picks and wouldn't go all in to get Luck, especially if the Cowboys are in the mid-20s in the first round. I'd be surprised, let me put it that way.

Anthony (Rhode Island)

Todd if Romo plays mistake free football we beat New England. Thay can't stop anything right now and with Austin coming back with Dez getting the extra rest that he needs I don't see why we can't beat them. Yes they have Tom Brady and Wes "is the best" Welker but are D is playing hard and with heart. Its going to be tougher than any game thus far but possible.

Todd Archer
  (1:30 PM)

Patriots might not be able to stop the Cowboys but I don't know if the Cowboys can stop Brady. High scoring game.

Mike (VA)

I don't think all the blame can go to Romo. Garrett needs to manage the game better realizing what tendencies his QB has. Up 3, just threw 2 pick 6s, and then you make an agressive call with 4:00 to play. He needs to understand the situation better. What are your thoughts?

Todd Archer
  (1:32 PM)

That's what I wrote the other day so of course I'm going to say you're a genius. I think Garrett has to take away some of the freedom Romo has and reign him in a tad. Look at this offense last year under Kitna. It did not go into a shell, but Garrett was not as reliant on the QB.

Mike (Easton, PA)

How come Chris Cooley didn't bring up Romo's 4th quarter game-winning drive against the Redskins in week 3? or that Romo has been to 3 more playoff games than Cooley? or that Romo has been to more Pro Bowls than Cooley? or that Romo has won more division titles than Cooley?

Todd Archer
  (1:32 PM)

I have nothing to add to this, but Mike makes some great points.

Mike (Easton, PA)

What is the early report on Nagy? Is he the long-term solution at OG or will the team look for an upgrade after this season? What about with Costa?

Todd Archer
  (1:33 PM)

I think Costa has more of an upside than Nagy. I like what Nagy has done and I'm sure he'll grow and improve, but I think ultimately they look at Arkin as a long-term starter. If the Cowboys learned anything this year it is to draft offensive linemen and let them develop.

Dan (Longview, TX)

Todd, I know you thought I wasn't serious, but I am! T.O. knows this offense, loves the QB & if Jerry Jones picked up Terrell even though his coach doesn't want him then Bill Parcells wouldn't be shocked...!!!

Todd Archer
  (1:35 PM)

TO loves the quarterback? You mean the guy he said was drawing up plays with the tight end? I have a better chance of running routes for this team. It won't happen. Ever.

Todd(Allentown Pa) [via mobile]

Saw somewhere about Lissenmore bing the lead back for short yardage he's athletic n has some power. Why they continue using Brent when he can't even keep his feet to hit anyone? Plus if anyone rather just use the true FB Fiametta for play action which worked great with Witten on the 3rd TD vs. Detroit. Brent has got to go for the goalline packages.

Todd Archer
  (1:36 PM)

I mentioned Lissemore in the 5 Wonders post. I'm on the Lissemore bandwagon for that job.

Bill (NC )

Even though we are 2-2, there has been a lot of good things in the first four games - D playing well, O-line begining to take shape, burst in the running game, getting healthier. If we can just limit turnovers, I can see the team going on huge run. This is correctable; for a lot of other teams, they just don't have the talent. Thoughts?

Todd Archer
  (1:37 PM)

I can't disagree with what you're saying, but that's a big IF you're talking about with the turnovers. If they can control them, then they will have a chance every week. If not, then you'll see this go up and down all year.

stepsinsurf (Romo)

I've noticed, since even before the rib injury, that Romo isn't stepping INTO his throws. Most have been off of his back foot with considerably more air under them than should have been. I think he is Danny White all over again in the end though, you want to love him but know what's coming eventually.

Todd Archer
  (1:37 PM)

I saw that in the first half vs. Washington, but not so much vs. Detroit. The only throw, off the top of my head, he didn't step into vs. the Lions was the last pick when he had Suh in his face.

Mike (Easton, PA)

Why so much doom and gloom about how Romo can't be a Super Bowl QB? Rex Grossman, Matt Hasselbeck, Mark Sanchez, Trent Dilfer, Eli Manning, and 2nd year Roethlisberger all made to the the SB or conference final. Romo is better than all those guys were when they made it that far.

Todd Archer
  (1:39 PM)

The second-year Roethlisberger was really good. But you make a valid point. Those teams got to the Super Bowl (or conference championship in Sanchez's case) because of great defenses. I mean great defenses. Do the Cowboys have a great defense?

Scott (Dallas)

Who do you believe the Cowboys will see as a viable half back option considering Jones can not be the major work horse we need? It's appears Garret does not have much trust in Jones or Choice or else we would not be throwing as much with such major leads like we had against the Jets and Lions.

Todd Archer
  (1:40 PM)

This is Felix Jones' job. He's the guy. There's little doubt he's the guy. Maybe you'll see some more DeMarco Murray as the year goes on, but if Jones is playing he's the lead runner.

Todd (Sherman)

Who do you have matching up with Welker in the slot? The man is beast who does nothing but make catches and make secondary guys miss.

Todd Archer
  (1:40 PM)

Orlando Scandrick. How about that being a nice test in your first game back in a month? Scandrick is looking forward to the matchup. He's already studied up on Welker.

Adam (Toronto)

What if they trade Romo for Rodgers?...ok now that that's over with, how does Dallas approach the Pats game? Seems like the way to go would be run the ball, no?

Todd Archer
  (1:42 PM)

Good joke to start. But I don't think running the ball is the way to go vs. the Patriots. They can't stop anybody yet through the air. NE has the worst-ranked pass defense. I'm using that to my advantage.

Mike (Easton, PA)

Are you on the bandwagon for Lissemore playing DE in addition to being the goal-line FB? It would be great to see him develop in a player there instead.

Todd Archer
  (1:44 PM)

The Lissemore-to-fullback deal is just for a snap or two a game. That's it. He's done a nice job on the line this year. He's been something a surprise t me, too. Now, when Hatcher is back his snaps will go down, but he's a guy worth keeping.

Steve (Syracuse)

you say: Brady has not lost a home game since '06..........well Dallas was 241-0-1 with a 14 pt lead going into the 4th quarter. All streaks must come to an end...........add in the fact the Boys have never lost a game being up 24............I am no where near as scared of this NE game as I was prior to the season

Todd Archer
  (1:45 PM)

Sure, streaks end. I saw the Red Sox win a World Series. But I can't bank on it. It's a winnable game, but I'm not ready to say they will win there.

al (tetons)

if u make a statement like that i know u have never been here lol!! any hoot does dockery get his job back?

Todd Archer
  (1:49 PM)

Hahahahaha. You're right. But you've never been to Medway either. That's a good question on Dockery and I'm not sure. Nagy has done OK and I don't know if it makes sense to take out a young guy with a future to put in a veteran on a one-year deal. Now, Dockery has better size and strength to go with his experience. It's a tough question, but I think I stick with Nagy if he is still holding up.

Aaron (St Louis)

Do you think Ryan's comment and ego had anything to do with single coverage on Johnson? Or does he honestly believe he isnt worthy of it? If he did, does he still?

Todd Archer
  (1:51 PM)

You really can't do anything but cover Johnson like that on the 2. If you put another guy on him, then you give the offense a number's edge. It wasn't ego. Garrett talked about this the other day. You don't want Detroit to run it twice and kill the clock, so you invite the throw and hope Newman breaks it up and the clock stops. Scoring on the first play wasn't a horrible option, IMO. I understand their logic there.

Mike (VA)

Any more info on Romo tugging away from Jerry on the sideline? I assume Jerry was finally getting on his as_ but played it off later on his radio show.

Todd Archer
  (1:52 PM)

I didn't see it as such a big deal but Romo did not talk this week so we did not have the chance to ask him about it.

Dan (Longview, TX)

Where did they put Jesse Holley...?! I thought he had a coming out party in SF, but since he has barely touched the field! They put guys out there that don't know the routes, so is he really THAT undependable...?

Todd Archer
  (1:53 PM)

He's a nice story. He's a great kid. They just don't view him as a legit receiver or else they would've played him.

The Dude (Dallas, Tx)

The Packers had Brett Farve when they drafted Aaron Rodgers, and I'm sure they aren't regretting that decision. Do you really think Jerry could find it in himself to draft a qb in the first round?

Todd Archer
  (1:54 PM)

If a QB like Rodgers falls to the Cowboys the way Rodgers did or if there is a QB that is there whenever they pick, I think Jerry would take a QB. I never said he wouldn't pick a QB in the first round. But Green Bay wasn't grabbing any old QB there if Rodgers was already gone.

Chuck (Ft. Worth)

Why the Manute Bol reference? Why couldn't you go with Bradley?

Todd Archer
  (1:56 PM)

Love Manute. You should read Leigh Montville's book on him. Great read. I remember Manute from his Bridgeport, Conn.

Todd Archer
  (1:57 PM)

Hey, folks, thanks for all of the questions. If you have more, send me an e-mail. You can follow me on Twitter (@toddarcher) as well if you have questions. All the best. Enjoy the bye week.Courage.
