QB of the future. Ash or McCoy?
I'm going with Ash. Bigger body. Better arm. But watch out for Connor Brewer next year. But for now it is Ash.
What is the Hardest College Football Team that the Texas Longhorns will face this season?
Oklahoma. Has to be. The team speed on defense is the best Texas will see all year.
When will Brown understand two QB's does not work against legit teams. They got a much needed reality check, the fans here still think they are great when they are just average at best.
Maybe this week. They coaches were very coy about who would be playing when at QB this week against OSU. In past weeks they have been upfront in saying the two QBs would split time. Not so this week.
Hey Carter, how did you enjoy your time covering sports in the Pacific Northwest?
Loved the Pac-10 as it was then. Always good to get a good road trip when you are living in Pullman. Oregon still the loudest stadium I have been to and I have been to a lot of them.
What is your prediction for the OSU v TX game?
It should be closer than the OU game but if Texas does not figure out how to run the ball then they are going to lose. I like OSU in this one just because the offense is so prolific and Texas struggles at safety in coverage
How do you see Texas performing against Oklahoma St?
Texas will try and establish the run with Malcolm Brown. They rushed the ball 45 times against OU. Harsin was desperate to establish something. He will use more misdirection this week because OSU is not quick as quick on defense. Also Texas should be able to get to the edge a little better against OSU. Team speed again.
Would Texas fans accept a 10-3 record? Losses to OU, Ok ST and A&M?
You have them winning the bowl game then, right? I was thinking that Texas will go 9-3 or 8-4 and either wind up in San Diego or San Antonio. I think that is an acceptable result. But they need to be close in those games against OSU and TAMU. No more blowouts or the natives may get restless.
How does Texas consistently underachieve with top ranked recruiting classes year in and year out? Is it horrible coaching?
What happened was they got lazy in their recruiting after the success and did not get kids who wanted to work as hard or had a strong upside. Now they are having to start over. The 18 true freshmen who are playing right now are very talented. Next year's class is as well. Brow will admit he did not do a good job evaluating talent to fit his teams needs in the past. This year, with Diaz and Harsin, they are getting better talent for what they need to do on the field.
Yep. Texas has a chance if it can shore up the backside of the defense. They have to get those safeties to communicate with the corners when it comes to the coverage packages. OSU is not nearly as strong on defense as OU, so UT can put up some points. But if they turn the ball over and do not have a strong leader in the huddle it is going to be a long day for UT.
Does Texas have any chance at upsetting OSU
Mr. Strickland, i do not know why everyone is giving Texas such a hard time about the lost they got. yes it was a blow out but going into the season everyone knew that it was going to be that way. what positives can we take from these games if they are some?
There are plenty of positives. Look at the play of the defensive line - Okafor, Howell and Jeffcoat. Those guys were very strong. Carrington Byndom had a great game against OU. Also the team did not quit. A year ago this team would have folded. But you see Christian Scott getting a forced fumble in the fourth quarter and you know they are still fighting. That means a lot with a young team.
Carter, strong recruiting class already, anymore top prospects leaning the Horns way?
Very strong class. Need to look at safety though and Landon Collins. Texas really needs this kid. They are gong to be thin there especially if Kenny Vaccaro decides to go pro. Mario Edwards is another player who is moving away from FSU and toward Texas or OU. He is the top player on the ESPNU 150 and would be a huge get.
Collins is 6-0, 210. Ranked the No. 3 safety by ESPN top 150
i was at the game in Dallas on Saturday and you could tell even before the game started that Texas looked flat and OU was really hyped up for the game. How in the world can Mack Brown not get his team emotionally ready for such a big game or is it he has lost his edge and just knows he is overmatched these days
Brown has never been as good as Stoops at getting his team up for that game. Big part of that is Jerry Schmidt, the strength guy for OU. He is one of the best in the country. He has those guys ready to play at OU. I think when Bennie Wylie fully takes over the weight room and has his guys in there things might change at Texas.
More Mike Davis please!!!!!
The issue there is McCoy doesn't have the arm to get it to him. Ash does but the blocking was so poor from the line he did not have time. They need to get the play action game going and that will free up Davis. Davis also needs to secure the football.
Thanks for the questions. Hopefully we can make this a weekly deal as the season continues.
