Chat with Bryan Broaddus

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:02 PM)

Good Morning...sorry I was a little late...watching the game again...lets get started.

TheWho21 (WestCoast)

Nobody is blaming Romo...... Right?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:04 PM)

I think you have to blame Romo for the first interception, looks like that Dez was trying to run an in, the corner inside of Miles in the slot dropped, thought that Dez couldnt have run the route a little harder inside but Choice struggled with his block on the blitz pick up so everyone had a hand in the pick

joe (auburn,ca)

I am confused by the play calling on the cowboys last possession. It seemed we were playing to not lose rather than playing to win. Tom Brady has been compared to Joe Montana so many times, rightfully so. So why would the cowboys go 3 and out on the last possession without even attempting to get the 1st down and turning the ball back over to a guy like brady?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:06 PM)

Garrett took so much hell for not running the ball in the Lions game now he is taking hell for not throwing the ball on that series. His defense had been playing well and had gotten a stop the series before. Let your Pro Bowl punter try and pin them and play defense but also remember that the QB on the other team knows how to make plays too and he did.

Robert (FL)

Bryan,What happens now with Felix, and do you think Murray has what it takes to be a bell cow runner if Choice is dealt?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:08 PM)

I dont think that Choice will be traded. I know that Jerry came out and said he was taking calls about it, but to be honest, I dont think that was true. As of last Friday they had not put it that way.

Jo (The Cowboys 2nd Home Town - Arizona)

The pass protection has been wonderful, but opening up the holes for the RBs is another story. If they could run the ball, this team would be 5-0. Inability to run the ball is killing them in the redzone and not allowing them to close out games.

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:10 PM)

I have been watching the line this morning and was only get through the first series before I had to do this chat. I will say this about the line overall, there have been times where plays were blocked very well and the back has hit the wrong spot. Its really a two way street here.

ben (mesquite)

Do you think if we have another loosing season Jason Garrett will be gone? I think the cowboys need to find another Q.B. because Romo just isn't it, i've wathced to many games where it seems he's just going through the motions and is just happy to walk off the field injury free. What do you think?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:12 PM)

I think you are dead wrong about Romo going thru the motions. If you had a chance to walk into that locker room and see that every week you would understand. I do not see Jerry firing Garrett if he has a poor season.

DH (Israel)

The Cowboys big problem is the Oline. The pass blocking is mediocre; the run blocking is non-existent. If the team was even okay at run blocking, they win a 3 games they lost this year. Solves most of the red zone and end of game problems. Will Jerry use a 2 or a 3 for a guard or center this year?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:13 PM)

There is no question that he will need to now try and upgrade two positions on the offensive line, he has to look at the guard spot and center. I like Costa but right now he is just a band aid.

Derek ((Louisiana))

Why in the world did JG call a shovel pass from the 5 rather than throwing it up for Dez?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:16 PM)

It goes back to all you folks that wanted Garrett to hold down Romo and dont let him make a mistakes. You cant have it both ways. He is not a robot QB so when Garrett treats him like that, everyone throws up their arms.

Todd(Allentown Pa) [via mobile]

Saw you said something about Dez still not bing on the same page as Romo is that why he vanishes in 2nd halves n who's to blame Romo's accuracy or Dez's lack of knowledge on how to get open or him still not knowing the offense?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:18 PM)

Who has the majority of the interceptions that Romo has had this year been thrown too? Don't get me wrong, Romo has his share of the blame but on the bad passes, where has the ball gone?

BG (Tampa)

Brady threaded the needle often on that last drive. But this D seems to be getting better and better. Very encouraging after what we witnessed last season. What do you think is our biggest concern after 5gms? And how do we solve it?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:21 PM)

I really do think you are taking the right approach, we all know that Tom Brady is a bad man, there was going to be a good chance that he was going to tie that game but also a chance he was going to win it. I thought the defense coming out of training camp but struggle and the offense would be fine, I was wrong. Ryan has them playing better than I thought but need to find a way to kill that final drive like they did against Washington.

Adam (Chicago)

Big difference comparing up 24 at home to up 3 on the road with the Best QB in the league waiting on the sideline. Garrett is scared..he's not coaching like a confident man secure with his choices.

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:23 PM)

And Romo throws an interception and you are in my chat Monday ripping his rear for not sitting on the lead and letting his defense make a stop. I have seen this story before.

Cody (South Dakota)

I am getting sick of the offense, whether it's Romo or Garrett, not looking Dez way in the second half. Why in the world bother bringing him out of the locker room at half if he isn't going to be a part of the offense?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:25 PM)

Cody, maybe you can come and help Dez at night learn the game plan. Instead of just running two or three routes, maybe you can help him get a real grasp of this offense and where he needs to be.

Kofi (Accra)

Any injury update on Ware's back spasm??

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:26 PM)

I havent had a chance to visit with my guys this morning about that. I didnt get the impression that it was something bad last nite.

Shawn Jacob (Carrollton, TX)

Just heard that Dallas' next opponent, St. Louis Rams have traded for Brandon Lloyd. Thoughts?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:28 PM)

Rams have really struggled at WRs. I get a chance to watch them starting Wednesday. Lloyd could help a poor group.

brock (texas)

I have noticed a bad habit tony has gotten himself into when pressured he will jerk his head left when throwing the ball like he does not want to get hit and thus causing a interception or bad throw fans want to know why and has the coach addressed this issue he looks like a guy on the verg of falling apart what's your view of this??

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:30 PM)

I think this is an interesting thought on your part. The INT that he had early in the game was exactly what you just talked about. It doesnt help that he has taken some series shots in the middle of the pocket and that is where Choice gave up the pressure. He was clearly throwing off his back foot.

Jason (Houston)

why wouldn't you run another play for witten in the red zone? he has two TDs in the past two games?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:32 PM)

I have been very critical of Garrett in the Red Zone for the last two years. I have never understood why he doesnt try and create more chance for Witten. Its never a bad thing to throw him the ball because he knows how to play in traffic and his hands are outstanding.

Andy (Minnesota)

Do you think the cowboys will figure it out in time to win the division and make a run in the playoffs? If not, where do you see them finishing?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:34 PM)

This division is up for grabs. The Cowboys defense is playing well enough to win it.

Shawn Jacob (Carrollton, TX)

With Dan Bailey now making 14 consecutive field goals, will the Cowboys cut ties with David Buehler?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:36 PM)

I know that there guys in the front office that would like to move on from Buehler because of the way that Bailey is kicking but that call still remains that of the GM.

Meredith (ATL)

Any concerns that Dez will never do what it take (i.e., learn the playbook) to maximize his talent? Is management frustrated with him? (If not, how could they not be?)

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:39 PM)

I have plenty of concerns about Dez and there are those that work here that have the same.

Tony (San Fran)

Alot of people seem to be blaming Dez. Don't know why, being that we don't even use him. JG is holding Dez, and the rest of this offense back. I don't blame him at all for being mad about not getting passes.

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:42 PM)

This club had one of the greatest receivers to ever play this game in Michael Irvin, I was cursed to play against him but also work with him. I have never been with a player that busted his rear has hard as Michael did to get ready to do his job. You can have all the talent in the world but you had better make sure you are ready to do your job each week. I believe there are times where Dez is holding Dez back.

Rashall (Dallas)

Rashall has a question... Do you think Sean Lee will develop into a Brian Urlacher type player?

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:44 PM)

Sean Lee is an outstanding player. The scouts had him right. He is the type of player that will only get better. You have to hope that Bruce Carter could come in and play the same way.

Peter (Montville, NJ)

Bryan- as always great great job. I think with Garrett it's catch-22. We threw away the Detroit game and yesterday he took a conservative approach. My question is when is this team going to find the right balance. Bottom line is we could potentially have been 5-0. Games are tight, teams are good and I see this season slipping away. Too much at stake. Your thoughts.

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:47 PM)

Thanks Peter...Garrett is going to make his share of the mistakes, but I do feel like he is the right man for the job. I have been around young coaches like Gruden, Payton. They had to learn, adjust. Garrett took a team last season that was dead and won football games. He will find a way to learn and get that balance.

matt (Canada)

Why not try something simple inside the 10 .. like throw it up or back shoulder to Dez .. every team in the league with Stud WR's uses this tactic and it is both safe and hard to defend! It has to be better than the tricky inside shovel passes???????

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:48 PM)

That shovel pass might have told you more about his confidence in Romo than anything....

Bryan Broaddus
  (12:50 PM)

Guys...thank you very much for your time and questions...hope that I didnt make everyone too mad...I have to get back to this game...will have a full report on ESPN Dallas.com in the morning. Have a great day.
