Good morning... nothing lacking for a chat.
Do you like the second biggest trade that went down yesterday--Ronnie Brown to the Lions? Were you surprised there weren't more trades?
First, the NFL doesn't have a flurry of trades this time of year. They usually occur prior to or during the NFL Draft in April. We had five trades, I think, since last week and a blockbuster deal in Carson Palmer to Raiders. I happen to love the Ronnie Brown trade for the Lions. Maybe he's not the Ronnie Brown in his prime but it makes sense. The Lions have to be cautious and concerned with Jahvid Best (concussions). Brown played for Lions OC Scott Linehan with the Dolphins.
Chris, I'd like to know your feelings about the Vikings starting Ponder instead of McNabb this Sunday against the Packers. I feel this is a good move, given the Vikings' situation with their scoring offense, and the fact that they are (for all practical purposes) already out of the playoff picture. Your thoughts?
I think the decision to start Ponder was correct. With no off-season, Ponder has had time to get acclimated and I know OC Bill Musgrave has worked hard with his mechanics/fundamentals. I think we were able to see that Ponder has a level of mobility that now surpasses McNabb's current mobility. It's time to move forward with Ponder though I do feel badly for McNabb, a class act who has hit some pretty tough bumps in the road as his career apparently will wind down.
What teams would be a good fit for TO my hope is its the Skins? whats your feeling?
First, we need to know the true status of his knee, which underwent two surgeries since last December. One team that clearly has an interest is the Titans - at least, HC Mike Munchak has not ruled it out. As for the Redskins, I just don't see it but Mike Shanahan once flirted with the idea back in Denver. Good fit? I could argue both ways. How healthy is this guy? That's the first questin.
Chris, do you think the Bears will regret not being buyers at the deadline? The defense isn't getting any younger, and there is little chance the O-line holds up all year.
You're assuming there were a bunch of players available to address those needs. Offensive linemen almost never get traded because everyone needs them. The only defensive player traded was LB Aaron Curry last week, right? I will say that if the Bears can protect Jay Cutler at a decent level - which they did this past week - he is capable of being one of the top QBs in the league and that can win a lot of games.
What is the latest on Jerome Simpson, the Cincinnati WR that had the marijuana delivered to his house? Why is he still playing?
He wasn't arrested, he wasn't charged...he is reportedly cooperating with the investigation at the federal level. The matter falls under the purview of the NFL's substance abuse policy for now.
Do think anyone is close as good as big ben when he's hurt???
I can't name one.
What team do u see moving to L.A.?
The Vikings have the easiest escape but I would think (and hope) that the stadium gets worked out there. I still think the Chargers are the leading candidate but eventually there could be two teams. The Rams (I was told not likely)? The Raiders? The Jaguars? The stadium situation also has to be resolved in L.A.
Falcons - Detroit: Wouldn't you say this game is more about how the Lions respond to their first loss, rather than how the Falcons play?
I think it's a telling game for both teams. As much as I've touted the Lions as a legit playoff team, there are some things that you'd like to see, such as more consistency from Matthew Stafford, especially early in games. The Falcons need to win and they got back to running the ball, which could present challenges for the Lions. It may be a game that counts as a playoff tiebreaker at the end of the season.
A lot of analysis from yesterdays bengals/raiders trade seemed to indicate that the raiders gave up way too much for palmer. but looking back on the raiders/pats trade for seymour those same ppl were killing the raiders were giving up too much, and that trade seemed to work out fine. My point is are anaylist too quick to give a grade on a trade when nothing has happened yet?
Here's what I said on NFL32 last night - I know it's a good deal for the Bengals but I'll tell you whether it's a good deal for the Raiders when I see the results. Right now, I like the trade for Oakland, though I feel badly for Jason Campbell.
Thanks for everything! Check us out on NFL32 at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and Sunday NFL Countdown at 10 a.m. Take care and God Bless!
