Good afternoon everybody...It's a great day in God's country...and let's get this Wednesday afternoon partaaaayyyyy started!
hows this team? 11,24,2,14,33,17,29,99
Good afternoon Dave, let's look at the team....11,24,29 feel like sure bets...33,14 should be top-10....Keselowski might be top-10 material..17 and 99 are potential top-10 but Kenseth has been more of a top-15 kind of guy in recent years even though he was top-10 in the spring...99 was top-10 I believe in both races last year but only top-20 I think in the spring..so you've good horses so I guess it depends on what kind of ride they get.
Hi mark,jr killed me.But redemption this we.Iam going with hamlin this week.how do you feel about him...I know he had a good run last week.So hopeing he transfers the good run at dega into a win at martinsville..
Hendrick with their ride in the back tactics also killed my team because I had Gordon, Martin, and Junior. Hamlin broke a string in the spring of nine races in a row of sixth or better at Martinsville...but he led a bunch of laps on the way to finishing 12th and I think he bounces right back to be a potential winner Sunday...And he's on streak of two straight top-10s so they may be getting their mojo back.
Hell-o Mark, Congrats on having the 33 and the 31 on your team. Will the 24 and 48 bounce back this week? Starting up front is huge this Sunday. If the 17 starts up front, can he stay there? He has been better at Martinsville the last few times. Gordan knocked him out of the lead with a few laps to go. Matt just made the move too early. The 14 confuses me. Should I keep him this week or go with the 18? Thanks, Bill
Yeah Bill I had the top-2 and then got wasted. I do think the 24 and 48 have such a long history of running well at Martinsville they will bounce back this week in a big way. If 17 starts up front he usually stays there because rule of thumb with Kenseth is that he always races better than he qualifies...And I'd go with the 18 over the 14...Tony's last three finishes are awful and Kyle is three top-5s in last four races.
Who do you think will win the Tums Relief 500 at Martinsville?
I'm thinking Denny Hamlin with Johnson, Gordon, and Harvick giving him a run for the money.
Deer in my backyard are walking in SNOW this morning. In your eyes who is lowest risk 4 5 43 1 16 20 42 33 6 31 ( pick 3 ) Thanks again Keith.
Sorry about that Keith, but it is still one of my life's ambitions to visit Montana...I hear it is beautiful...5,33, and 31...depending how he qualifies I might also consider Montoya who's been top-5 in two of last four at Martinsville...and you're welcome.
I have 1 start left with the Hamlin. Do I use him at Martinsville? or use harvick here and denny at phoenix?
I'd use Denny at Martinsville because it's more of a sure bet..Phoenix will be wide open with the new surface and reconfiguration.
Mark, hope all is well. I'm having some health issues myself man, I'm in a protective boot after hurting a ligament in my right foot from running. Anyways for M-ville I have on Y!: 24-88-33-47 and ESPN: 24-88-11-33-47? How are those line-ups?Also, anyword on the 17 for sponsorship next year?
On the Y! Nick you had until we got to the 47...he's done nothing at Martinsville lately....and for the ESPN team...again 47 is really, really weak link.
Thank you so much for putting Dave Blaney on my radar. It was the shot I needed to take a big lead in my private leauge. Do you have any really long shots from the teams in the lower end of the points? ie; Lally, Gilliland, Kvapil, Schrader, etc.?Is it a good indication of a "start and park" if they only run a few laps in practice. I am always concerned with Casey Mears cause he can be good but you never know if he is going the distance!
You're welcome on the Dave Blaney deal...I just wish after I dug that out I had actually picked him..lol...This week you might look to Schrader in same car with same team he was 22nd back in April at Martinsville...That's really good because it's hard for low budget teams to do much better than that on the tough half-mile track.
Mark, so everything looks good except the 47. Switch it out for the 78?
Don't go there either ...the 78 stats are even worse.
I think I might be able to get by for the 1 on ESPN. With Texas up next should I use my last start on Ragan or Menard this wk with 4 races left or just bite the bullet on the 47? Yahoo doesn't offer great substitutes on Y!.
McMurray would give you a little more upside on the ESPN game than 47 or 78 that's for sure... As far as the Y! I wouldn't use the last start for Ragan...I guess I'd go with Menard who was 14th and 13th last year before suffering a DFN this spring.
After your Daytona resukts I'm thinking we should call you Guroober. Know you not familiar with yahoo so could you give us a couple of mid range dark horse picks? I'm running short on B picks lol.
Who are some of the B picks Zippy?
How 'bout that Top-30, Guru.
You got it Jason.....1.Denny Hamlin2.Jimmie Johnson3.Jeff Gordon4.Kevin Harvick5.Kyle Busch6.Dale Earnhardt, Jr.7.Clint Bowyer8.Tony Stewart9.Carl Edwards10.Jeff Burton11.Mark Martin12.Brad Keselowski13.Ryan Newman14.Joey Logano15.Kurt Busch16.Matt Kenseth17.Juan Pablo Montoya18.Kasey Kahne19.Greg Biffle20.Martin Truex, Jr.21.Jamie McMurray22.David Ragan23.David Reutimann24.Brian Vickers25.Marcos Ambrose26.A.J. Allmendinger27.Paul Menard28.Ken Schrader29.Bobby Labonte30.Regan Smith
basically anyone that finished last year out of the Chase is in the B section but not down as far as Ragan or Menard they are C picks
Would that include a Mark Martin...a little off the radar Joey Logano has put up some decent stats lately at Martinsville...Newman wasn't in Chase last year and he's capable of putting up a good number Sunday too.
Bowyer and Newman are in the B's but out of starts for them so looking at Burton, Martin, Jr, and Montoya. I'm I shoveling gold or manure?
I like Burton a lot...look what I brought out on him in the preview...He's got only one top-10 in last three races with the two other finishes 20 something but there is more to the story..Montoya has been top-5 in two of the last four...Martin was a runner-up a year ago and top-10 in four of last five...Junior meanwhile has five top-10s in last seven....these guys could definitely be of help if hit on right combo Sunday.
I see you high on Hamlin but I wonder if he's just kinda in a FUNK after having to "pester guys mom's" at the Daytona Formal Dance. Do you think he's in a rebuilding stage or a go for the win stage now?
Oh no...when it comes to Martinsville a win is the only thing on Hamlin's mind..I think he's got a shot I really do. Remember in finishing 12th in the spring he still led what 89 laps..something like that...He'll be good Sunday you can count on that.
Any news on the Redbull situation?
No and folks over there are getting pretty tight lipped about the situation..the only news out of there lately is about employees bailing over to other teams...nothing positive and nothing on seller who made offer to Red Bull, who then it waving in the breeze.
Wow. None of my guys would be carry-overs. How's this lineup look, Guru? 5-31-24-11-88
That's not bad Jason...sometimes you just have to turn everything over...Every one of those five drivers is a potential top-10 Sunday..11 and 24 are top-5 potential and possible winners...way to dare to be great!
i am picking 15th for martinsville this weekend in my league. who should i go with mark martin, logano, kahne or biff. please help guru!
Big Jon, I'd say Martin would be your man if it came down to those four drivers...Again, he was the runner-up a year ago and to be honest I'd have a hard time believing he won't get snapped up ahead of you.
Are Kahne's numbers really that bad here? I hate to lose the discount rate I have on him.
They are pretty bad at Martinsville for Kasey...but he's been on a roll lately and we've seen with Keselowski that past stats don't mean nothing when you get red hot. It's been nine races since his last top-10 at Martinsville and he was a DNF this spring...He's tough call this week because he should be pretty sporty at Texas next week.
What do you think of Johnson, Hamlin, Edwards (+1.5 hate to give it up), Burton, and Ragan?
You can make an arguement for that team..Johnson and Hamlin top-5 potential...Edwards, Burton, and Ragan all have recent Martinsville top-10s..So, could be worse Zippy!
Mark, any news on the 17 for next year? Hard for me to believe that as well as he's running and as bad as some other teams are running that he wouldn't get sponsorship despite this economy.
It's tough for you to understand Nick, it's tough for me, it's tough for Jack Roush, but that's the way it is right now..Like you, got to believe something will pop up or a series of sponsors will line up behind a top line car and driver..Roush said last week he's never seen it so crazy to find sponsorship.
Got to run everybody...up next the race day chat from Martinsville..coming your way at 10:30 am eastern time Sunday morning. Until then have a great week and may the force be with you...Sad to say but must "The Guru has left the building!"
I heard Tony is a little miffed that Menard didn't push harder at the end of the race so he could catch Burton and Bowyer. Is that just Tony being Tony or is he in need of a visit from Nurse Helga?
Maybe a little of both...lol...I'm outta here!
