Chat with KC Joyner

KC Joyner
  (3:00 PM)

Hello! Let's talk some fantasy football!

Andrew (Berkeley)

How much of DeMarco Murray's big game can be attributed to the Dallas o-line manhandling the terrible Rams D, and how does that shift our expectations for the rest of the season?

KC Joyner
  (3:01 PM)

A lot of Murray's performance was due to the terrible Rams run D. St. Louis is dead last in just about every rush D category. Murray could also be in a platoon once Jones returns. If you can sell high on Murray this week, do so.

brad duncan (Columbus)

I cant afford to throw up a goose egg this week. Start Dallas Clark or Jake Ballard?

KC Joyner
  (3:02 PM)

Ballard by a mile. He's got fantastic metrics (check out this week's Pass Plays for specifics) and is only going to get more integrated into the Giants offense. He's a great addition and should cost next to nothing since he is available in over 90 percent of ESPN leagues.

Will (New York)

Who do you think is going to be a sleeper for the rest of the year?

KC Joyner
  (3:03 PM)

Ballard would be one. Also think Michael Jenkins has a lot of upside.

Bobby (Madison, WI)

KC! I'm home with my kids today and only have 4 minutes to check the live chat. Who should I start along with Arian Foster this week....Ben Tate, Alfonso Smith or Stevan Ridley? Thanks!

KC Joyner
  (3:04 PM)

Home with the kids and you can still only check the chat for 4 minutes? Have the kids join the chat! Smith is the best of that bunch since his PT could increase with Wells injury.

Tebow Lover (MD)

KC, am I crazy to think that I should play Tebow over Stafford and Eli every week for the rest of the season?

KC Joyner
  (3:05 PM)

Tebow will be a good play in many weeks, but Eli is a better start this week.

Scientist (Forgot to carry the 1)

Great call on Greg Little. At least you didn't belabor the point haha! Any more genius suggestions you'd like to recommend over and over in case my opponent is looking at this?

KC Joyner
  (3:06 PM)

You know, I'll take the hit for picks like Little if you will remember to say thanks for the many picks I've gotten right this year.

Will (Bay Shore )

Who is a better pick up this week and for the rest of the season: Fred Davis or Jake Ballard?

KC Joyner
  (3:07 PM)

Great question. It's probably Davis because he'll get more targets, but it is darn close.

Kevin (Chicago)

Pick a Thomas: Pierre or Daniel? Ingram is out and the STL defense is soft, so I'm leaning toward the former. Thanks!

KC Joyner
  (3:07 PM)

Would agree completely. Any player against the Rams is a good pick this week, as the Rams can't stop the run and are down three CBs in their secondary.

Matthew (Michigan)

Should I go with Detroits defense in the snow or should I start the Titans D because they are playing the terrible colts offense?

KC Joyner
  (3:08 PM)

Would probably go with the Titans if only because the Colts may be throwing in the towel on their season.

Eric (Cleveland)

What about Chris Ivory as a deep sleeper?

KC Joyner
  (3:08 PM)

Good call.

Rick (irvine)

KC... Desperate for help, I saw yesterday you liked Thomas over Little, but I am also starting Knowshon over Hardesty and am really worried about being Tebowed out, if I start both Knowshon and Thomas? What do you think?

KC Joyner
  (3:10 PM)

Little is definitely getting a lot of targets (he had 7 last week), so it's not as if he is playing poorly. He was just held back by the Browns passing O last week that played maybe its worse game of the year. He's a bit more of a risk than Thomas but not so much that it would be a bad move.

Ryan (Saratoga NY)

KC, BIG TRADE HERE!!! just moved Forte / AJ Green / J Stewart and got back Peterson / B Marshall / M Floyd. Tell me how I did! THANKS!!

KC Joyner
  (3:11 PM)

Big concern is how healthy Floyd is. If he's slowed by injury, not sure the trade was a good one. If he gets back up to speed health-wise, it's a solid trade.

Jeff (NY, NY)

Enjoyed listening to you on the Podcast yesterday. You should fill in more often. I don't expect a lot of long term value out of Murray, but what are your thoughts on him this week? The Eagles rush defense isnt much better then the Rams.

KC Joyner
  (3:12 PM)

Thanks for that. More podcast material may be coming up in the future, so stay tuned. Quick note to everyone - the podcast can be found on the ESPN Fantasy Football page. Murray will be a good play this week.

Ryan (DC)

Miles Austin or AJ Green? Everyone seems to rank Austin higher but the last 2 weeks haven't been fun.

KC Joyner
  (3:13 PM)

Green is rated higher on the TFS start-sit charts because of his matchup (Seattle lost another CB last week and is now starting a 4th string CB).

Warrick (London)

Early Doucet plays the Rams twice this year. Why is he not ranked higher? 7.5 point average a game in standard scoring, too.

KC Joyner
  (3:14 PM)

For those two games, he'll be considered a good flex start option. Just not sure about his consistency in the other contests.

Steve (Afghanistan)

Greg Little or T Smith this week? Salivating over that Smith matchup vs the cards cbs. Thx!

KC Joyner
  (3:14 PM)

Smith. Little will be good long-term but that matchup for Smith is worth targeting.

Rick (Minny)

matthews or CJ0K this week ppr?

KC Joyner
  (3:15 PM)

CJ0K - that's a good one! Maybe we can start a trend with that (assuming one hasn't already been started). Mathews rates slightly higher than Johnson on this week's TFS start-sit charts (more info about which can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com - only site plug of the chat).

Scott (Tampa)

What are your thoughts on moving MJD for CJ2k? CJ has great matchups and has already incurred his bye week (MJD's is next week). Do you ever recommend making such trades for the short-term, if youre a struggling team who needs W's?

KC Joyner
  (3:17 PM)

MJD has been productive yardage-wise but hasn't scored TDs because the Jaguars passing offense is horrible. Johnson has good matchups and, if the Titans don't fold their tent, should bounce back soon. I wouldn't say no to the trade.

Todd (HB)

Manningham has to score this week right?

KC Joyner
  (3:17 PM)

He's the hardest luck player in the NFL right now, as he has lost 5-6 TDs due to a variety of factors. It's a favorable matchup this week, so it's end zone or bust.

Stephanie (Providence, RI)

TFS - is Fitzpatrick too much to give up for Starks? I will still have Romo and Tebow at QB, but need RBs with Felix and Best hurting.

KC Joyner
  (3:18 PM)

Probably not since you are in good shape at QB. Plus, defenses have started to slow that Bills passing offense of late.

Mike (San Diego)

KC, Big Ben or Stafford this week? I currently have Big Ben in the line-up...just curious for your take.

KC Joyner
  (3:18 PM)

Ben is rated a few ranks higher on the start-sit charts.

Tebow Lover (MD)

KC, I picked up Little in a couple of leagues based on your advice and I'm still holding him in a PPR league. He really hasn't done bad in PPR leagues. And I will thank you for the Forte advice back in the preseason. I picked him up in three leagues and I'm doing well in all three. Thanks again KC for all that you do !!!!

KC Joyner
  (3:19 PM)

Only posted this to note that Little is still a good play in some leagues. Don't give up on him just yet.

Keith (Michigan)

Need some flex help to turn around my 1-6 disaster so far. .5 PPR, need 2: JStew, Battle, Antonio Brown. Thanks.

KC Joyner
  (3:20 PM)

Got to like a fantasy owner who is still working on his team despite a 1-6 start. Lots of fantasy owners could take heed of this type of example. Go with Battle and Stewart.

Tom (LA)

Is there any better time to try to trade JStew than now? 2 straight games with a TD and RBs falling like flies.

KC Joyner
  (3:21 PM)

And bye weeks are still around for a few more weeks. As long as that stays a platoon backfield, his upside is limited, so a trade high move makes sense right now.

ARob (New York)

I've been offered Chris Johnson and Roddy White for AP. Thoughts? Chris Johnson can't be this bad ... right?

KC Joyner
  (3:22 PM)

He's not going to stay that bad, but the way Peterson is playing, he's someone to keep unless the offer is just way too good to pass up. This doesn't quite meet that standard, so pass on it.

Scientist (Now carry the 1)

I apologize if this is a resend. Main reason for sending is to say you make a fair point, we win some and lose some but at least you work at it and give a different perspective. Besides that, who do computers like between Battle and Torain (knowing they can't account for Shanahan)?

KC Joyner
  (3:24 PM)

Appreciate that. Believe me, I was just as frustrated about Little's performance as everyone else (well, it wasn't him as much as it was the lousy Browns passing game). A matchup against Buffalo makes Torain the better move this week.

The Guy From the Who (Cement (Like a Sea Mint))

BIG TRADE POSSIBILITY HERE! Hoping for you to give me a witty reJoynder. Got offered CJ2K, Vjax, and Cowboys D for Blount. What do you think of Vjax and Blount rest of season? Tough schedule for Blount til weeks 14-15.

KC Joyner
  (3:25 PM)

It's a trade worth making if only because Blount is getting over an injury. Jackson's schedule is brutal but all in all that trade should offer enough value. Sorry couldn't think of anything witty :-)

Tyler (Minnesota)

How was the mushroom chicken last night? Also I need your help since my backfield has quickly changed from my strength to my weakness. Which 2 get the nod this week: Hardesty, Battle, Scott, D. Thomas?

KC Joyner
  (3:26 PM)

It was excellent - another terrific meal by Mrs. Scientist. Tough call on the backfield. Scott and Battle win out on the TFS start-sit charts.

Justin (New Orleans)

Does P. Harvin's value increase now that Berrian has been released or is this the status quo? Drop Harvin for DHB or Deion Branch?

KC Joyner
  (3:28 PM)

Berrian had been phased out of that offense, so it's pretty much status quo. Harvin's injury has been slowing him, so short term DHB or Branch would be better. If you can hold out for a couple of weeks until Harvin heals up, though, keep him, as the Vikings offense could play much better with Ponder at QB.

J.B. (PA)

Alright KC, your Halloween candy is at stake. Who do you start this week - Antonio Brown vs a porous NE secondary OR Victor Cruz against the Miami Luck Chasers?

KC Joyner
  (3:29 PM)

Trick or treat! Cruz gets the nod.

KC Joyner
  (3:29 PM)

That leads to an idea - best Halloween posts get prioritized for the rest of the chat.

Tyler (Minnesota)

Greg Olsen or Jake Ballard ROS?

KC Joyner
  (3:30 PM)

Ballard, for the aforementioned metric reasons and because Olsen is battling an injury.

Steve (Detroit)

Tebow out on the Waiver wire, should I drop either Freeman or Fitzpatrick for him?

KC Joyner
  (3:30 PM)

Drop Freeman for him.

Mark Clayton (St. Louis )

Please don't ignore me....When am I gonna to get activated and do I have any value now that Brandon Lloyd stole my gig?

KC Joyner
  (3:31 PM)

Hard to say, but Lloyd will get vertical dibs in that offense even when Clayton returns.

Shanahan (Washington)

This just in. Clinton Portis and Reuben Droughns to split carries for Washington this weekend.

KC Joyner
  (3:32 PM)

Now that's just cynical.

Tim (PA)

Ding Dong! Flaming paper bag outside your front door. Do you stomp it out or not? Also full PPR, WR/TE flex, Antonio Brown, Greg Little or Jake Ballard this week?

KC Joyner
  (3:32 PM)

I let my dog take care of it. Ballard is the way to go.

J.B. (PA)

I wanted to dress in the scariest costume I could think of but I didn't know how to go as the Dolphins offense. I have concerns about Hillis ROS. Worth keeping him or see if I can deal him away for someone a bit healthier?

KC Joyner
  (3:34 PM)

You could go as the Browns offense, but it would be akin to being invisible. Hillis' health is an issue, but so is his contract situation and the presence of Hardesty (who at least showed he can handle a huge workload with his 32 carries last week). If you can get solid value for Hillis in a trade, go for it.

Halloween Cereal (OH)

Boo Berry, Franken Berry, or Count Chocula? Also, how high should i aim for running back wise if I'm trading Jason Witten?

KC Joyner
  (3:35 PM)

Just got some of those cereals for the kids - did you know they only sell them at Halloween these days? Oh, for the days when you could get them year round (although it probably keeps the dental bills lower that they are only available now). You'll want an RB2 for Witten.

Blair Witch (Briston, CT)

Fairly down on Antonio Brown this week?

KC Joyner
  (3:36 PM)

I like his matchup, but it's hard to trust the Pittsburgh passing game to throw it to him often enough to take advantage of it. Not saying to avoid him, just that there may be higher upside options out there.

Sarah (Holland, OH)

KC, I need your help. My RBs are Mendenhall, Best, Ingram, and Starks. So I'm playing Mendenhall...and who should I pick up?! Delone Carter?

KC Joyner
  (3:37 PM)

Carter might be a good add if Best's injury keeps him out for the season (which was reportedly a possible concern at one point).

Grim Reaper (Behind You!)

Mendenhall has been scary bad RB3 doppleganger, any way he transforms into a RB1?

KC Joyner
  (3:38 PM)

Pittsburgh has been giving him good blocking most of the year, and he's been productive in those cases. Not giving up on the odds that he will return to RB1 status.

Ryan F. (Tulsa, OK)

Antonio Gates' foot: terrifying fantasy owners everywhere! Does he trick or treat Rivers on Halloween night?

KC Joyner
  (3:38 PM)

That is scary. Am leaning towards treat status in that one.

Kmac (Boston)

Good Day KC, I have Decker, Should I drop him for one of these other folks on my waiver wire for rest of season-D.Thomas, J.Stewart, Helu, Fred Davis, Tate Who will shine by week 17?. What does your crystal ball say?Thank You.

KC Joyner
  (3:39 PM)

Hey, good to hear from you, Kmac. Helu would be the one to go for out of that group, as Torain's injury history suggests that Helu will get a shot at being the bell cow for a time.

Warrick (London)

Why so down on Brown? He's looking much better than Sanders at this point.

KC Joyner
  (3:39 PM)

Not down on him per se, just down on his potential target volume.

Herman Munster (Grandpa's basement)

KC-someone in my league dropped the Lions D. I heard Nick Fairley will return soon. Would you rather have the Bengals or the Lions for the rest of the season? Hurry here comes Lilly and I'm not suppose to be down here!!

KC Joyner
  (3:40 PM)

Gotta love the Munsters. Stick with the Bengals D, as they are playing well in just about every phase of the game (check out this week's TFS ESPN.com Insider article on the Bengals as a possible AFC playoff contender for more details).

He did the Mash (It was the Monster Mash)

For my graveyard smash, should I drop James Jones to pick up Ballard and play him over Little and Brown?

KC Joyner
  (3:41 PM)

Gotta teach my kids that dance. Dropping Jones for Ballard and starting him over those two is a good move.

Mike (SD)

Trick or Treat OR do you stay home and pass out candy while watching MNF? Murray or S. Jax this week for FLEX in PPR?

KC Joyner
  (3:43 PM)

I always take the kids trick or treating - some things have to rate over football (rare though those things are). Murray gets the start.

Oscar the Grouch (Trash Can)

Good evening TFS....which is the least smelly this week at the flex...Daniel Thomas, Manningham or Tolbert?

KC Joyner
  (3:44 PM)

Very funny! Just saw the interview on The Daily Show with the guy who voices/controls Elmo - funny stuff. Manningham is like a splash of English Leather compared to those other two.

Werewolf (Forests unknown)

Have a hairy choice at RB2 this week KC so a need some help! P.Thomas,D.Carter,D.Thomas or Battle? Got a spare razor handy!

KC Joyner
  (3:46 PM)

We'll have to send you over to see Missy, the official hair stylist of the TFS chats. Thomas and Battle are the ways to go in that quartet.

The Ghost of Mike Williams (Tampa)

What happened to me?

KC Joyner
  (3:46 PM)

Good question. Hard to say but it's probably a variety of factors.

Great Pumpkin (I Exist!)

Good grief, will you answer my question KC? If I were offered Ray Rice in exchange for Forte in my PPR league, do I pull the trigger (Foster is other RB)?

KC Joyner
  (3:47 PM)

That's almost a push of a trade but with the way Forte has been playing of late, I'd keep him over Rice.

Jason (Arkansas)

Wanted to follow up on the Antonio Brown question. Doesn't he have several targets each week? Seems to me they are trying to keep him involved, but he just hasn't taken full advantage yet.

KC Joyner
  (3:48 PM)

He is getting solid target levels in some weeks, but the concern is that Pittsburgh will not want to try to get in a shootout with Tom Brady and may not throw the ball as much. It might turn out that they have no choice but to throw more often, just am concerned that is a likely scenario.

Cousin It (Addams Household)

I've lost Thing.... can you lend me a hand?... A Brown, Maurice Morris or Bernard Scott as flex for this week?

KC Joyner
  (3:50 PM)

I knew someone whose hair was so long and straight that she could actually pull off the Thing look - was funny as can be to see her do that. Would go with Scott this week.

BD (DC)

Nothing is scarier than this decision.... starting R. Torain (Shanahan scares me to the core), or Deion Branch for my flex.... HELP!

KC Joyner
  (3:52 PM)

A Shanahan RB - now that is a scary thought! Only issue is they are playing a Buffalo D that is not good against the run and just lost its best run stuffing DL. Branch is also playing a D that is one of the best in the league against the pass. Got to go with Torain.

Mike (San Diego)

KC, so with Pitt not throwing as much, how could Big Ben be a better start than Stafford? Just curious. Everything I've read is that it's going to be a wild shootout.

KC Joyner
  (3:53 PM)

Ben does rate higher than Stafford on the TFS start-sit charts, but that's as much because the Lions offense hasn't been playing as well of late. The NE-Pitt game could very well be a shootout, but I've just got this sense that it will be a lot lower scoring than people expect.

Amy (Texas)

Why dont U ever answer any womans FF questions? I was offered S.Jackson for D.Murray. Should I make the trade?

KC Joyner
  (3:56 PM)

Hey now, check out the earlier questions in the chat before saying I don't answer questions from women. And the bigger issue in answering questions from women is that there just aren't that many of them in the post queue. Murray probably has more upside than Jackson (the Rams O is in bad shape and Jackson is an injury waiting to happen) so that trade is probably a no-go.

MICHAEL MYERS (RIGHT BEHIND YOU...)

Seriously, No love for the best Halloween Villain of all time???? Shame on you KC...but I won't hold it against you if you answer my question...Morris or Hardesty...E. Sanders or Branch?

KC Joyner
  (3:57 PM)

Freddie and Jason might have something to say about that. Morris and Branch.

Scott Mitchell as Wayne Fontes (Detroit)

Pick 3 from Dez Bryant, Gates, Graham, or Hernandez

KC Joyner
  (3:58 PM)

Now that was funny! Hernandez sits out of that group.

Jimmy N (MUUHAHAUAHAUAUAUA)

Happy Halloween to you and yours scientist. 1) moment of silence for the end of Sage's 2011 season. 2) Should I play Breaston or Crabtree in the flex? I'm SCARED of both!

KC Joyner
  (3:58 PM)

No Sage Rosenfels in the NFL - now that is a scary prospect! Go with Breaston for the flex spot, as Crabtree is still battling an injury.

Dave (NB)

The scariest thing in this chat so far is the lineup I have to set for this week!!! Pick an RB out of Helu and Keiland Williams.... Thanks!

KC Joyner
  (4:00 PM)

Helu - that Buffalo D could be a treat.

MICHAEL MYERS (RIGHT BEHIND YOU...)

But in Freddy vrs Jason, I won...Just sayin...

KC Joyner
  (4:01 PM)

That's true, but there could be a sequel to that. Well, got to run to record a podcast with the Fantasy Blitz that will be on ESPN radio later tonight. Quick notes: All of the TFS material is posted on Twitter @kcjoynertfs. More info on the start-sit charts can be found at www.thefootballscientist.com. Hope to see you all here next week!
