Happy Tuesday everyone from really, really cold CT. OK...it's not that cold outside anymore, but it's that cold inside where we don't have power! Maybe this should be a fireside chat where we can warm up...
I had plugged J Gresham in my line-up for a bye week replacement. But, suddenly after he was locked in there was an 0 for 0 points and an O for out next to his name. What happened?
Ethan: He Marshawn Lynched his fantasy owners. Apparently couldn't get the hamstring loose in warmups. Yes, many angry fantasy owners, and I heard from most of them...
Hi Stephania, what are your thoughts on Stafford's health for the rest of the season? I can trade away Marshall to get him, should I pull the trigger?
Chris: As a Stafford fantasy owner, I would say yes. If he could play like this right after the ankle injury, then he should continue to progress (unless of course he suffers another injury which we won't even discuss for fear of power of suggestion). He delivers fantasy points every week.
Thanks for all the great work Stephania! Any update on Blount from Tampa yet?
Matt: Thank you - well the rumblings are all on the order of Blount playing. Maybe it was wise that they didn't speak about his injury at all since it lowered expectations. I'd like to see what happens in practice before getting overly excited but yes, the plan is for him to play. Is he fully recovered? We'll see.
Will I get a better showing from Green-Ellis this week?
Alex: Lots of people wondering that, including me. The toe doesn't seem to have been the issue as much as the fact the Patriots were playing from behind. Kevin Faulk was back and getting the work but sounds like that is not a trend that is supposed to continue.
Hello Stephania! What's the news on Tolbert and Bradshaw so far? I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel for RBs if neither can go in Week 9...
Andrew: WIsh there was something to offer on TOlbert - but with them playing Monday night (and him sitting out), there's no update yet BUT, he was out there, dressed, trying to warm up and convince the team he was well enough to play. That's a pretty good sign that he was close enough to being ready that he should go this weekend. Bradshaw was able to get bacl in the game so you have to think his chances are good of playing again this week despite the foot soreness.
And what about Nicks? Can I count on playing him this week?
Jeff: The Giants sound more encouraged after the results of his evaluation. They're calling him day-to-day (but you know how the hamstring stories go). I wouldn't be surprised if he's out Weds, limited Thurs and then if he comes back for practice Fri would hint he's ready.
Andre Johnson...I'm starting to get the feeling we may not see him until week 12 after their bye...your thoughts?
Mark: It's more ominous than it was last week. Really though he had a good chance of playing last week and I think from how he LOOKED to the coaching staff, he was that close. But they trust him to speak up about how he feels and he said he felt it "tugging" in the hamstring - and that's why he can't accelerate fully. More demand = more tugging - and that makes you worry as an athlete that you could pull it easily. They want that to be gone - so it will come down to whether it's gone in practice this week or not. At this point, no way to say for sure.
Hi Stephania. Thanks for putting up with us FF types. McGahee is saying he could play this week. With a plate and what ... five pins (?) stuck in his hand, is this really a possibility?? This is his football carrying hand. Would he or the team really risk further injury to the hand by putting him out there this early? I realize anything is possible, but wouldn't additional trauma to the hand before it is fully healed be really, really bad?
Tom: Great question - and yes, the decision will rest on whether the medical staff is worried about the risk of disrupting the repair. They may be leaving the door open to have him work as if he can come back, then it comes down to an X-ray to see the bone healing. If it's not far enough along, he won't play.
Is Julio back this week to put a whoopin on Indianapolis?
Jesse: Sounds like he had a great practice Monday - and remember, he practiced just before they went into a bye week - so everything is pointing in the right direction for him to be able to play.
Good day Stephania - Murray owner here. F jones back next week? Thanks
Trip: I'd be surprised. He had a decent high ankle sprain and it's only been a couple weeks. He did come out of the walking boot but it's unclear whether he's well enough to return to practice this week. If he's not back by Thursday, he's not playing.
Please tell me Hillis is back this week
Jason: That's what the Browns are saying. They're hinting at his availability but that might be wishful thinking. Last time he practiced, it set him back for the remainder of the week. So now we need convincing that he can practice on back to back days...they just signed another RB today btw to make up for the loss of Hardesty.
Mark Ingram back this week?
Jason: No clues yet from Saints until we get to Weds practice.
Do tell, Ms. Bell: Does McFadden's foot find the field this Sunday? Please say yes, please say yes...
JDK: Last week there was all kinds of optimism in Oakland. Quietly that has changed somewhat. Now it sounds a lot more questionable as to whether he'll in fact be ready to go. They held him out Monday. But the team suggests they will bring him back to practice (I'd guess limited) Weds. So we'll see.
What are your thoughts on Kolb and his toe?
Tyler: Very bruised, swollen turf toe. He expressed concern about being able to deliver the ball with enough velocity (it's his plant foot) more so than moving around effectively (although it's bound to affect him there too). We'll see if he can even get on the field.
Any answers on Ryan Mathews groin injury yet?
trent: Lots of people asking but no word from teh Chargers other than "groin strain." They had a lot of questions to answer at the end of the game yesterday that had nothing to do with injuries...
Do you think Fred Davis plays this week? And if so, how effectively?
Marshall: I do. Grade 1 (minor) ankle sprain is something a number of players will play with the following week. May be painful, some swelling but implies no significant structural injury (no instability). Treatment during the week, maybe lighter practice, tape it up Sunday, play.
Will Bradford play this week?
LittleRon: We saw the first signs that he could. Walking out of the boot tells you he can put more weight directly over the ankle, walk with a normal gait. Means the ligaments involved in a high ankle sprain are tolerating the stress of that walking. Next level obviously is running and football play. Imagine he tries some throwing, drills Weds and then they increase his movement as week goes on. As always, will depend on his response each day.
Hey Stephania ? hello from the land of the 5-2 Buffalo Bills! What can you tell me about Beanie?s knee? I am thinking about using #1 waiver on him. Would you consider him an improvement over Battle, Starks or Felix Jones given the fact that Beanie has said it?s likely an injury that he?ll have to deal with all year? Thanks!
Ted: We both have teams on the rise this year- -it is a good feeling. I'll tell you this. Wells one of the most frustrating fantasy players. When healthy, underperforms. When not so healthy, goes out and surprises. Then the team suggests they will limit/control his activity, he starts playing well, they cut him loose. Very annoying. Wells said he expects the knee to be an issue for the rest of the year - so that means an entire season of hand-wringing and wondering which Wells will show up on Sunday. I would prefer Battle going forward. No confidence in Jones health right now and Starks, well, he hasn't given us what he's supposed to so far.
Any word on Best?
Wil: They have a bye this week AND the Lions say nothing about injuries, especially this one where it's a daily assessment. SO they aren't making any sort of prediction on when he can return, we certainly can't either.
Daniel Thomas. Are we going to be guessing about his availability all season?
Levi: Probably. No clue from the Dolphins what happened to set him backwards. Most expected him to play this week even though listed as Q b/c that's what he's done in the past. SOmething must have happened to set him back but no one is saying. And so, we guess.
What is your impression of Bradshaw's foot injury? He talked about a screw in his foot aggravating him. I have screws in my knees. The Doc said he could remove those after healing. Can he AB do that?
Tim: It's true that hardware that starts to become problematic can often be removed. IT's not a difficult procedure but there is a window where the bone is a little more vulnerable for a bit because the holes where the screws are have to fill in. Not sure if Bradshaw still has the screw or if it's just where the hardware was that is a sore spot. If he does have it and it's removed in season would likely miss time.
Was Gates play encouraging last night? Looks like he was having trouble getting some seperation, but overall thought he looked good. Just wondering what your thoughts were and how his injury looks going forward?
Jeremy: At times I thought he looked great (his size and power clearly give him an advantage) but I felt like he looked stiff at times running. THen other times, he'd put a move on a defender and create a nice opening. I thought he looked pretty good overall, but I'm concerned about how much time he actually played. Remember how they were going to control his snaps so as not to risk a setback? Hmmm. Any aggravation threatens to cause him missed time.
As an owner of the Dallas defense, do you know what happened on Mike Jenkin's hamstring MRI yesterday? Would Sean Lee be effective with a dislocated wrist in a cast or better to rest him/ both this week against a weak SEA offense?
Perry: They haven't discussed the MRI but Jenkins went from saying he thought he'd play in Week 9 to expecting to miss a few weeks. Take from that what you will. Lee is not having surgery but there's no decision yet as to whether he can even try to go this week (and if he does it will definitely be in a cast). So I'd be looking elsewhere.
There are rumors of Peytons return. Any truth to this...
Andy: Owner Jim Irsay letting us know they plan to keep him on the active roster all year so they are certainly leaving the door open. But it remains a very slight possibility, nothing I'd count on.
Way to go 49ers!!! Who's the better pick up M. Bush or R. Bush ROS with fragile RBs ahead of them on the depth chart? Also, would you pick up J. Baldwin ahead of either? Dude can go up and grab the ball and is looking like a beast. GO 49ers!!! Just had to throw that in once more.
Ray: Persistence. Like the 49ers. I like Michael Bush - at least in the short-term. You can potentially use him right now (I think if MCFadden does come back this week there might be more of a time split) and I'm not a huge believer in R Bush. Think Thomas is back this week even though we haven't heard much. And if I could get Baldwin over them both, I would.
Please stop answering questions that are off topic or regarding non injured players like the last on on Bush. Please, is Jermaine Gresham going to play this week and would you keep him over Brent Celek rest of the year??
Gregory: Why the hate? The Bush questions were directly related to injured players playing in front of them. And since Gresham was listed as probable - about as sure as you can get - and then scratched, it would be a stretch for me to say right now that I know for sure he'll play. The injury never appeared serious and came up late in the week - and they still thought he was likely to go -so I expect he will. And I like him better than Celek, if he plays.
What is up with the manly Seabass and his golden hams? He is the only kicker I would ever save a roster spot for.
James: It's funny how much everyone mocks kickers but then Janikowski gets a ton of questions b/c anyone who owns him has probably won at least a couple games due to him. They waived Rayner and hinted at him being back before they went into the bye, so expect he plays.
Worth stashing Ogbonnaya for week 10 against St Louis? Would you drop Gaffney or Washington for him?
Karna: Would definitely stash him if you already have him. I got 10 points from him this week. I wouldn't give up Gaffney but I would give up Waashington. We don't know yet what the deal with Hillis will be so why not hang onto him..
Thoughts on Braylon Edwards this week and ROS?
Louis: Like hte fact he got in the game since he was so apprehensive beforehand. Like the fact that he got seven targets despite being gone for so long. Have to imagine that continues to go up as he feels more confident coming back from the knee surgery.
Thanks for coming to the chat. Back again Friday morning with a look at Week 9. Blogs and podcasts in between. Be well...
