Hello, everyone. Let's talk about the AFC East.
James any new updates on status of D.Thomas for week 9 vs.Chiefs? Thanks
It's the same for Daniel Thomas. The hamstring is nagging him and that's a tricky injury that doesn't really go away unless you really take significant time off. The Dolphins/Thomas haven't been willing to do that, but maybe they should. Otherwise, Thomas and CB Vontae Davis will continue to be in and out of the lineup.
What is the Hardest AFC East Team that the NFC Teams will Face This season?
The Patriots are a tough matchup for all of those teams, Chris. They already beat Dallas and play New York this week. I think New England has the best chance for an NFC East sweep.
Hi, James. Is it fair to say that Kyle Wilson is playing better than any CB on New England or Miami?
Hmm, I never thought about that, Billy. But you may be right. Wilson is much improved this year. No CB is really standing out for New England or Miami this year.
Hi James. I see the Bills shutout the Skins this week, yet I'm not worried about sundays game. Is it just me or do the Jets win by at least a td?
Rachel, the Jets have a good chance to win this game. I think player-for-player, NY matches up well with Buffalo. Plus, the Jets had two weeks to prepare. Beating the Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium is going to be tough. But I think this game can go either way.
With Jon Gruden and Bill Cower seemingly taking themselves off the coaching market, who do you think the top candidates for the Miami Dolphins are now? Is Urban Meyer a possibility or a good fit if he is?
I wouldn't consider Meyer a possibility right now. College coaches often don't do well in the NFL. If Cowher and Gruden are out, Jeff Fisher or the best assistant would be next down the line. The Dolphins need to get this hire right.
James is there any word of a afc picking up Owens maybe new england he wants a ring and that would be a legit shot for him or maybe the jets with burris and holmes have you heard anything
I haven't heard anything on the Terrell Owens front. I don't think he's coming to the AFC East. There may need to be a couple big injuries around the league for someone to give him a chance.
Well I think it's time for Yeremiah Bell to apologize to Reggie Bush and admit, "We do stink."
I think Bell's point was that it didn't need to be said, Dwayne. That's all. Everybody knows it. No one from inside the locker room had to admit it. It doesn't help morale. I like Bush's honesty. But I see Bell's point, as well.
Whos ur fav to win the afc east i still think the pats are the best in the east but idk
I'm still sticking with the Patriots. I picked them to win the AFC East in the preseason. No reason to change that pick.
why do the bills keep handing the ball to brad smith in the wildcat when he just dances around in the backfield instead of running downfield and following blocks... especially on cruical third down plays it seems.
Good question, Max. I've been a little confused by Buffalo's Wildcat, as well. It seems like the Bills just use it just to use it. It's not a big part of what they do and everything else seems to work. I say Buffalo drops it for now.
On the flip side, Buffalo paid Brad Smith a lot of money and have to get him involved somehow.
Any updates on Kyle Williams status? And where does he fit in with Dareus doing so well at DT?
Williams is iffy, Grif. He may not play the rest of the season if his foot doesn't get better. Even if he does play, Williams will be the non-explosive player we've seen this year trying to tough it out. Dareus is at NT as long as Williams is out. If Williams returns, Dareus would go back to DE.
True or False. The loser of the Buffalo/NYJ game misses the playoffs.
If the Jets lose, true. I think Buffalo at 5-2 can withstand the loss and still has a chance.
As far as "sucking for Luck", do you think that Andrew Luck would be a good fit for the dolphins or do you think they should look elsewhere?
I think Luck is just what Miami needs. They have a LT, WR, C, young RB. If you put Luck in that offense, Miami instantly gets better. It's a no-brainer if Miami can get him.
James - I know this is an AFC East chat, but I'm just so angry about the Bolts. How is it possible that Norv is still a Head Coach?? Terrible
Rex Ryan would have won that game last night with the talent Norv has. Just kidding.
How do you think Buffalo's D-line will match up against the Jets? Even with Kyle Williams still out.
It's a good matchup. What's interesting is this was a weakness vs. weakness until the last couple of weeks. Buffalo played its best game in the trenches against Washington and NY has gotten back to its ground-and-pound. It's going to be a test of wills.
What kind of contract extension ($/yr.) do you envision for Fred Jackson? He's well deserving, IMO
Jackson probably will not get what his production matches, Josh. That's the unfortunate part. He's 30, and Buffalo will hold that against him. RBs are not getting paid in general. Jackson, Matt Forte and others aren't getting the big extensions. Chris Johnson did but look what happened to him. I'm sure that scares some teams.
Looking at the Dolphins schedule is there any real hope for a victory? I know we've been "in" each one of our games, but we've proven we can't hold a lead, or add to it in the second half.
It's very hard to go 0-16, Josh. Miami won't be favored in any games. But the Dolphins will catch someone by surprise. It was almost the New York Giants. Miami will beat someone that we don't expect.
with fitzpatrick being from Harvard he wouldn't be stupid enough to challenge revis would he?
Some teams (Miami) have been challenging Revis this year. I don't know what that's about. But I don't see that from Buffalo this week. The Bills' spread is built to throw to the open guy. It doesn't matter if it's the No. 1 WR, the TE or the RB. Revis' guy won't be open most of the time. So Buffalo won't throw his way.
I'm not a fan of Leodis McKelvin. He doesn't look for the ball and he gets beat constantly. The thing is, he's fast. What do you think about converting him to a WR?
Not happening, Joe. McKelvin can be used on returns. He's pretty good at that. McKelvin hasn't been what Buffalo expected at CB, but he's young and can still improve.
Did Pittsburgh provide a blueprint on how to beat the Patriots, or is that notion just ridiculous?
I think that's accurate. Pittsburgh's best defense was its offense. That kept Tom Brady off the field and limited his possessions. New England's defense is very suspect. A great QB like Ben Roethlisberger can beat that unit pretty easily.
Do u think mark sanchez can develop into an elite qb ?
Elite is not a word I use very much. I save that for the Tom Bradys and Aaron Rodgers of the world. I don't see Sanchez reaching that elite level, no.
What's the matter with McCourty?
He's just not around the ball anymore. How many tipped passes and interceptions have you seen from him this year? Very little. He has zero picks. Last year he was a ballhawk. He has to go back to that.
James . .. I am sorry, but the refs were letting the Steelers play. For such a suspect OL, there wasn't one holding call on them for the game, even though replays showed some (announcers called them out).If they let the Steelers be that physical at home, nobody will beat them.
I don't like the ref excuse in any situation. The Steelers outplayed New England last week pretty significantly.
what do you think of the stevie johnson/revis matchup?
So when does Buffalo get taken seriously? Who do they have to beat? They've had a brutal schedule, and they're 5-2. Yet you still entertain questions from a guy who is "not worried about the Bills" and predicting a TD win on the road...
I think Buffalo is being taken seriously, Xander. I'm not sure what you've been reading on ESPN.com or elsewhere. The Bills were near the top of our Power rankings today.
why has cromartie been struggling so much this year? doesnt seem like the 4yr/32 mil contract was worth it, especially with wilson looking great
I don't think Cromartie has been that bad. Maybe he's not as consistent as other years. But he's had some big games. The contract number will get thrown out there. But the reality is quality corners get paid a lot of money.
Why does BB refuse to draft a pass rusher year after year?
This is just my opinion, but I think Belichick values scheme more on defense. He probably feels he can draw up the right plays to stop an offense. But you need playmakers to beat the man in front of them and the Patriots don't have many of those.
If the Jets manage to beat the Bills and Pats in back to back weeks, do you see them as the favorite to take the East?
Ask me in two weeks if the Jets beat the Bills and Patriots in back-to-back weeks.
James, why are the Bills using Spiller as a WR and has it been working?
It's out of necessity, LeAnne. The Bills need WR help with Donald Jones out with an ankle injury. Spiller has actually been ok, about as good as a RB could look on the outside. Fred Jackson is tearing it up. So Buffalo doesn't need Spiller to carry the ball that much.
Any chance Jeff Ireland survives this trainwreck in Miami? If he goes, who would you suggest as a replacement/
Sparano is a goner, and Ireland's chances are getting slimmer with every loss. Part of it depends on the type of coach Miami wants. If it's a big name, that person will have complete control or work with a GM they are more comfortable with. If it's a former assistant, there's a better chance Ireland survives.
Bills over Packers Superbowl - Count it!
If the Bills win the AFC East, does Gailey win the COY award?
There are a lot of good candidates this year. I think Jim Harbaugh has the inside track for what he's doing in San Francisco. Gailey and Marvin Lewis should be in the running, as well, if Buffalo and Cincinnati can hold up.
were the 9 sacks the bills got sunday a fluke of the redskins o-line or the buf d-line is the real deal?
I wouldn't expect nine sacks from Buffalo this week, Jon. Washington may have the worst O-line in the league with all its injuries. But the Bills have improved and that's a good sign. If they can get 3-5 sacks a game. That would be great for them.
Do you see Fred Jackson getting over 1500 yds this season on the ground?
Barring injury, it's going to be pretty close, Colin. Jackson is on pace for 1,600 yards. He probably won't keep up that pace. But I think 1,400 yards is reasonable if he plays all 16 games.
is dustin keller a good matchup this week? his numbers have been dwindling since the frist few weeks
The Jets aren't throwing as much, Jon. That's hurt Keller more than anything. He needs chances to make plays, but the ground and pound is forcing him to block more.
Hi James, do you think Fred Jackson has a legitimate chance at making an MVP run?
Jackson will be considered. But RBs usually lose to quarterbacks, who have a bigger impact on the game.
will 10-6 be good enough for the bills to make the playoffs? dareus looked dominating sunday, if you didn't notice
Yes, 10-6 will probably get a wild card in the AFC. I think if the Jets or Bills hit that mark, one of those teams will get in.
