Chat with Jurko

  (1:00 PM)

Good week off for the Bears. Tough one against an Eagles team that has righted the ship.

Darius Byrd (Madison Heights, VA)

Big Monday Night game in Philly, I see the bears pulling this one out just like last year! What do you think?

  (1:01 PM)

They will have to contain the run game. McCoy only had 53 yards last year. And they will have to keep Vick in the pocket. Vick has a tendency to get nervous inside the pocket. I see the Bears winning by three, a Gould field goal late.

Mark (Aurora)

What is the deal with the Bears Management? It seems like they are trying to cause a rift between them and the players. What is it going to take to get Forte a new deal and to keep Briggs once the season is over?

  (1:02 PM)

Forte would have a new deal if he would have accepted the contract. He belives he is worth a lot more money. It takes two sides to have a deal. And Briggs does not have a leg to stand on. He signed a 6-year deal and now he wants to re-do it. I hope the Bears trade him away in the offseason.

Nathan (DC)

Cutler's squabbles with Mike Martz have been getting all the press, but he's actually been harsher to Angelo, overall, in his various comments. Then Forte and Briggs were taking shots at Angelo. Now Greg Olsen is joining the party. Will all this gain momentum, and somehow force Angelo out?

  (1:03 PM)

I think Angelo and Phillips are tied at the hip. The only way Angelo leaves is if he wants to leave.

Ken (Tinley Park)

I know the Bears have done well containing Vick in the past, but I'm actually more concerned about LaSean McCoy and the Bears run D. Can the Bears D contain both on Monday, or will this be an extremely high scoring game?

  (1:04 PM)

I see a 27-24 Bears win. I call that a moderate scoring game. I don't see 38-35 or anything like that.

E (The World) [via mobile]

What sauce do you like on your cooked bird? We're frying some eagles Monday night, G.

  (1:04 PM)

Worschesture (sp?) sauce.

Tim C (Wisconsin)

I dont think that the bears should mess with there starting o-line, the group they have has performed at a high level. So why mess with that? I dont think they should put Carimi back in because hes there first round pick. He should have to out perform the guy infront of him. Lance Louis is doing a great job. So is Spencer even with a broken hand. So my question is why in the world would the bears mess with something good?

  (1:06 PM)

They are not messing with it. I don't believe Carimi has his position back. They are going to go wih Louis for at least a week.

Chris (Loop)

I am usualy not compassionate about players wanting new contracts. But what Forte has done on a "rookie"/2nd teamer salary is ridiculous, the man deserves to be paid, step up to the plate Bears.

  (1:08 PM)

He is going to get paid eventually. He would have $14 million in guaranteed if he had accepted the deal the Bears offered him. It's not like the Bears didn't want to pay him. I think it will end up being more than the Bears wanted to pay him. But Forte has no leverage. They can franchise him twice. He can't demand anything really.

Darrell (Chicago)

The Bear's offense can be very good. Running the ball, screens and play action are things they do very well. While Martz has shown he can call plays that suit these strengths, he never completely gives up on his deep drops and long developing routes. This stubbornness has seriously limited the Bear's offense. Will management replace him with Tice in the off season regardless of how they perform the rest of the season?

  (1:09 PM)

Even though Tice is the OL coach doesn't mean he has a good grasp of the system. They hired Terry shea because he knew the offense but he didn't know how to call the offense. That's why he failed in Lovie's first year.

Ethan (Batavia)

Do you have any knowledge of what the Bears were working on offensively and defensively during the two week break? Thanks!

  (1:10 PM)

No knowledge what they have been working on but should be third-down conversions and situational defenses.

Joseph (Little Rock, AR)

How has Matt Forte played in his career versus the Philadelphia Eagles? And will Kellen Davis stay in the plans for the red zone since the running game has taken over Martz offense

  (1:11 PM)

Davis hasn't been much of anything this year but all TEs will be disappointing in Martz's system.

Mike (Chicago)

I realize that keeping Carimi out this week is the smart call but lance louis is playing awesome, if Webb struggles will they think about going with louis and Carimi at the Tackles?

  (1:12 PM)

I don't think they want Carimi playinf LT and I don't know that you want to move Louis from RT to LT. I think they are high on Webb so I don't think they are looking to replace him.

Kieran Murphy (Chicago )

Hey Jurko, love your work, with all the talk of the Bears franchise tagging forte, isn't it a possibility that he'll hold out or demand a trade if/when the bears do so?

  (1:14 PM)

He can hold out and he can demand a trade. If he holds out he gets fined $30,000 a day. In 10 days that adds up to be a lot of money. In 20 days it adds up even more. Plus if he is franchised he will make $8 million. The Patriots' ogan Mankins signed huis tenure in the offseason and then they signed a new deal. They established their own market by doing that. They put a value on him. Forte's value is $8-$10 million a year.

Kyle (Elmwood Park)

What type of record do you see the Bears needing to have to get into the playoffs through their last 9 games?

  (1:15 PM)

They have to go 6-3 to get to 10-6.

Ken (Tinley Park)

Do the Bears have a talent evaluation problem? I don't get it. Chris Harris got payed, Chester Taylor made his millions, Meriweather is over paid, Roy Williams (don't get me started), and the list goes on...I mean, maybe they don't see Forte the way we all do?

  (1:16 PM)

They know Forte is talented. Nobody is arguing that. But he doesn't hold all the cards. And he may be overplaying his hand because all it takes is one injury and he doesn't collect anything.

Dan (Philly)

Eagles fan chiming in! How do you think the o-line will hold up against our pass rush?

  (1:17 PM)

The Eagles pass rush has been inconsistent. I think the Bears will look to run, pull the big bodies and block down to create some lanes for Forte.

Chris (Purdue)

Jurko, this Philly game scares me. Philly would be smart to have 8 guys in the box constantly letting their 3 corners lock down the Bears receivers. Stop Forte and we got no shot. Thoughts?

  (1:18 PM)

Tampa was putting nine guys in the box at times, making a real commitment to stop the run and they did at times. But when you've got nine up front the back two have to do their job and when they don't you've got problems.

Joey (Chicago)

Do you believe that the bears can make a legitimate run towards the superbowl and do you believe that the bears can use another big receiver say T.O.?

  (1:20 PM)

They can make a run. All they have to do though is get in the playoffs. You never know what is going to happen. You just saw what the Cardinals did in the World Series. Just qualify, you don't have to dominate.

MAN1MAL (Chicago)

How big is getting Earl Bennet back for this game? Also, I'm seeing a big game from Cutler... your thoughts?

  (1:21 PM)

It's huge. Only because I believe he's a real security blanket for your QB and he has confidence in him. It might help the other WRs too.

Ken (Tinley Park)

What position do you see the Bears drafting in the first round next year?

  (1:21 PM)

I'd like to go linebacker because it's time to start replacing these guys. Or OL.

Daniel (Tampa Bay)

With Earl bennet coming back, Do you think Sanzenwaddle will have a strong role in the passing game?

  (1:22 PM)

I think he is the one guy who might have to sit.

Tim (Chi)

Chances of Carmi going to LT if Webb falters?

  (1:23 PM)

If Webb falters I think Louis would move and Carimi would stay on the right side. If that happened.

MAN1MAL (Chicago)

Jurko- When the Lions went Wide 9 on us they made JaMarcus Webb look silly. Too much speed off the edge. How do the Bears fix this?

  (1:24 PM)

The issue was they couldn't hear. This time they won't have that problem. They could not hear at Ford Field.

  (1:25 PM)

That's all for me this week. Talk to you next week.
