Do you think that the Yankees will make a big mistake if they sign Japanese P Darvish since Irabu & Igawa both Stunk?
No, I don't think it is logical to believe that. However, the fact that Japanese pitchers haven't transitioned that well over to MLB is something they must consider. The game is different in Japan. They train differently, pitching once per week. The ball has different seams. The outlay of winning the bidding process and then paying Darvish may be too much risk and not enough reward. My guess is the Yankees make what they feel is an appropriate, moderate bid and go from there.
I think we have seen a shift in how the Yankees plan on doing business in the future. After they missed on Cliff Lee they didn't make any trades at the deadline and seem to be passive after they signed Sabathia. Is this a sign that Brian Cashman actual has control over the team? (Aside from Soriano last winter)
Cashman is in charge of the baseball opps. Even with Soriano, he was over-ruled, but showed his independence by denouncing the move, which was odd, to say the least. Most of you have figured this out, but this is not George's Yankees anymore. Cashman wants to be patient.
Is there a market for AJ? Would the yankees help with the contract to move him off the roster?
I would say -- not much. Why? Don't yell at your computer: He stinks!!Well, there is that. But I think the Yankees value him more than others. If they were to trade him and get anything back, they would have to eat a large portion of his salary.I don't see them paying Burnett to pitch for someone else.
Who do you see the Yanks going after and who makes more sense? Wilson or Buehrle? Cespedes or Darvish?
I think Buerhle makes the most sense.I would say there is about a two percent chance they get C.J. Wilson. They view him as a two or three and he is going to be paid like a one.Plus, his personality is not what they are looking for. He is a back page waiting to happen.
Do you think the Yankees will target Mark Buehrle or do you think they go after a bigger name like Darvish or Wilson?
More points for Buerhle. He is very consistent. He is the most consistent of the FA bunch, but might not cost as much.
I know Buehrle is thought of as a midwest guy but I think he'd be a nice addition to the Yankees staff. A experienced lefty in the stadium- kind of fills the void that Pettitte left.Your thoughts on the chances of him signing with the Yankees?
Dom, Buehrle is not a hard thrower, which is what the Yankees think work long-term. However, he is a lefty and that, of course, works well.
Why not just target Darvish and Cespedes. All it would cost us is money and we wouldn't lose our picks by signing these other guys and be able to keep our system intact.
They could do that. Those two guys are on the radar. Especially Cespedes. Cashman's silence on Cespedes. His unwillingness to talk aobut him, tells me he wants him. He freely says C.J. Wilson is the best starter on the market. That is rhetoric.
not a fan of cashman since yanks won ws '09..even his trade for grandyman yanks would have been better off with kennedy a solid #2 behind CC & enough CF'ers aujack, gardner,
His legacy through this era could largely be tied to how Banuelos and Betances. Because if they don't come though -- or Phelps, Warren, Noesi, for that matter -- then the Yankees will have to buy more aces.
More likely signing....Yu Darvish or Yoenis Cespedes?
Cespedes. But, it seems to me Miami seems perfect for Cespedes.
Do you expect Montero to back up Martin next year, or full-time DH?
If there's one area that hurt NY the most last year, it was hitting vs RHP. Texiera and Swisher were awful in that regard and the true lefties (Cano, Granderson, Gardner) weren't really any better against RHP than LHP. What do you think of lefty FA Jason Kubel from Minnesota stepping in and taking the majority of the starts in RF? He's got good splits against RHP the past 3 years. Could Swisher exist in NY platooning vs LHP or is he a starter or gone with his salary option?
No way, Swisher platoons. He is your RF unless the Yanks sign Cespedes. Then the offseason finally gets interesting in the Bronx.
What are the chances the Yankees actually have a quiet offseason, bring back Garcia, and have a rotation of CC, Nova, Hughes, Burnett, Garcia? This should be good enough to buy time until the B's are ready. They also have Noesi, Warren, and Phelps who can help be a stopgap sooner if someone gets injured. I really don't want to see them waste money on C.J. or Darvish, and really don't want to see them trade Montero, or the B's.
Very possible.Cash was ready to do nothing last winter if Randy Levine and ownership didn't get involved Cashman would have done little all winter, save for Russ Martin and some reclamation projects.
Is Garcia most likely to end up back in pinstripes?
I was told yesterday, there are other teams involved. Florida and is his old mgr, Ozzie, supposedly like him. Of course, Florida (err, Miami) is allegedly signing everyone.
Who is the most likely farm hand to make the rotation or be a mid year call up?
Well, if you don't count Noesi, Warren and Phelps, who might have a real chance to break camp with the club.I would say Manny B. I'm not sold he will be a big factor next year, though.
Haven't heard much about Russell Martin. What kind of contract do you think the Yanks will offer and how does the C position shake out?
He'll get a one-year deal and then they will go from there.
Do you see Edwin Jackson as a good 4 in the al east?
Maybe, but I don't think he will be a Yankee.Boras will want trillions for the .500 pitcher. I don't see him pinstripes.
Why dont the Yankees go hard after Buerlee? At most we would have to give him like 2 years 20 million hes dependable and its always good to have another lefty. And plus could resign Freddie for 1 year 3 million as insurance.
It will take more than that for Buerlee (I like your spelling so I'm going with it). As I said earlier, I think he makes the most sense as is the most possible of the FAs.
What do you think the Yankees will do with their FA backups ie Andrew Jones, Chavez etc?
Chavez may retire. The Yankees like A. Jones. I could see him back. They think he is good in the clubhouse and hits lefties with power. Things would change if Cespedes is signed and Swisher stayed
Do the Yankees view Nova as their long-term #2 starter?
Long term? I don't know about that. I think that is wait-and-see.Next year? Right now, yes.I think he is probably a 2.5
Do you think there is a chance the Yankees look into trading Swisher say to Atlanta for pitching help?
Possible, but then never has worked out well in the past.I could see that happen if they sign Cespedes
Why all this talk about trading Nick Swisher? He seems like a better choice than the available options. What am I missing?
I think they only trade him if they sign Cespedes.I think Swisher gets the attention because the roster is so inflexible. You can't do anything in the INF. Granderson was an MVP in CF. They love Gardner. Bullpen is set. They need to add, not subtract starting pitching. Hence, it falls on Swishalicious.
What about Burnett for Jason Bay? Their remaining contracts are almost identical. Bay should benefit greatly by the ballpark, and Hughes should benefit by going back to the NL.
Why would the Yankees want Bay? He is terrible
If the Yankees sign Cespedes, what is the market for Swisher? Can swisher and one of the young pitchers not named banuelos or betances bring back a solid #2? A Gio Gonzalez or someone like that?
Hello Andrew. My question is what do you think is going to happen with Montero? I thought they might make him a backup cathcher to Russell and probably treade Cervelli, so that he can get some catching time and try to develop his skills. But what do you think?
Yes. I think Montero is the DH/backup catcher.
Any chance we see Cashman talking with Seattle about King Felix or San Francisco for Cain?
He wishes. Cain seems more possible.
Everyone needs to chill, in a few year the Yankees could quite possibly build a rotation and bullpen good enough for the next 10 years to go on another run of titles, Sabathia-Nova-Banuelos-Betances-Phelps and bullpen Robertson-Hughes-Chamberlain-Warren right?
Very reasonable thought process by you. Possible.
Any chance the Yankees buy the Mets from the Wilpons and make them their AAA team? Think of the money they can save on travel...
Yankees should be focusing on adding stars. How about Gardner, Banuelos and Bichette for Matt Kemp?
If Kemp gets to FA next year, look out!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What is your predictions about who the Yankees will sign this winter? Do you think they will sign a free agent starter, or make a trade for one? I'm not confident that Freddy Garcia is a great fit for the postseason.
My prediction. They sign Freddy and some lesser players.OK, thanks for participating. Wally is at the GM Meetings for us next week so maybe things start to heat up a little from Milwaukee. Thanks again.
